Vivienne Westwood “Boudoir” Review, Thursday

Hi gang,

I  have had a long running fascination with the incredible Vivienne Westwood. What a creative genius she is. Punk, Bondage, Pirate, Mini Crini, Plaid, Tartan, Safety Pins, Hand Painting Slogans, she has driven fashion forward in her own way, seemingly on her own terms, battling to live and eat for many years and now Dame on her throne. Down the bottom is the latest Vivienne Westwood Red Carpet video released on Tuesday this week. YUMMY!

BOUDOIR by VIVIENNE WESTWOOD 1998. Boudoir is designated Floral-Chypre in the notes but it is so much more than the sum of its parts. Yes, it is a big fat floral with some of the Chypre inclusions but what really makes Boudoir stand out is the skanky, slut guts of it all. It’s like wearing ELdO Secretions Magnifique with Caron’s Bellodgia so no one will notice. How do I know this? I am wearing said frags for that very reason and it is a dead ringer for Boudoir. I’m coming back to finish this post tomorrow, then we’ll see…

OK. They are not the same. There is a definite correlation though. Boudoir is ripe, overblown flowers, panting in the heat of your body with woods and spices sparkling and popping, this with musk, vanilla, sandalwood and patchouli pumping out a deep, sweet, buttery base over the top of a very slightly rank, unwashed, just been f#@ked senseless and am marinating in my own juices till I can get to a shower feel caused by the coriander, musk and cardamom, I think. All the filth is way down deep here, you have to look for it compared to Secretions Magnifique/Bellodgia. This is more a blowsy housewife than a feral Beryl.

If you can get your hands on some Boudoir it is definitely worth a sniff. As always Vivienne Westwood has put a tiny shockwave through it, just to keep you on your toes. It is a wonderful, sensual ride. Party night perfect.

NB Keep some in your purse for emergencies, if you have to do the walk of shame you can attribute your good girl gone bad scent to Boudoir.

March at the Perfume Posse does a super great 80’s remembrance post about Boudoir. Fragrantica has the low down.

    Hi Portia,

One of my all time favourites is an oldie but goodie – Polo Sport Woman, by Ralph Lauren. It’s classy and youthful all rolled into one.

P.s. never knew you were a brand whore. At the moment I’m trying to convince Paulie to buy me a Chloe handbag… Can you heckle him the next time you see him?

    Cheers,
    Jesse.

Without a doubt my absolute favourite perfume ever (not just from a fashion house) is Pure Poison by Dior. If confidence, lust and sex were spray it’d be supplied in a little white pearlescent bottle.

If I could drink the stuff to manifest the thoughts I have in my head when I smell it I’d need to go to dependency counseling.

Ohhh now I have an m15+ montage playing in my head…

    Come on peeps !!

There is only one, and one only ….

    CHANEL NO 5

    Hello !!!

  4. Undina says:

Please do NOT enter me into the drawing.

I used to like (and wore) Truth by Calvin Klein, Carolina by Carolina Herrera, By Woman by Dolce & Gabbana, Baby Doll and elle by Yves Saint Laurent.

Not counting usual suspects (Chanel, Dior and Hermes), I still love and wear Infusion d’Iris by Prada and Vera Wang by Vera Wang.

    • HAH! Consider yourself NOT in Undina. My buddy has Truth Men, are they the same or different? What was the Caroline Herrera like? I’ve yet to try any of her work.

      • Undina says:

To tell you the truth (pun isn’t intended 🙂 ), I have no recollection about how Truth Men smells. I must have tried it back when it was released since liking the women’s version I must have considered it for my vSO. But judging from the fact I don’t remember the smell (and it’s not in his collection) I should conclude they were different enough.

As to the Carolina (don’t confuse with Carolina Herrera – those two are different perfumes), all I remember about it citrus and sandalwood. It was pleasant but I’m not sure if I’d like it today. Sometimes it’s better just to keep a warm memory about something not trying to experience it again.

I have never smelt Boudoir but I love me some Let it Rock. Vivenne Westwood is a fabulously cool woman, while I don’t wear labels I admire her for her bravery in sticking to her vision, as kooky as it may be. She never seems to pander to the cheap seats.

    • HAH! You are SO right. Sometimes i wonder though is it bravery or madness from her. Genius and vision are often mixed with cra-crazy in equal doses.
I have Let it Rock awaiting an opening ceremony.
      You are in the draw.

  7. OMG!!! Hello??? For me there is only one designer that combines fashion and scent alike, it is the one and only Jean Paul Gaultier….. I mean, the genius even DRESSES his fragrance!!!! That gorgeous svelt like, unassuming tin can is the “pret a porter” fashion forward clothing, that hides the most sensual womanly hourglass figure, filled with the most luscious, peach coloured, nostril vibrating fragrance. Oh my goodness!! I am in heaven every time I smell it…. and even further into the stratasphere when I wear it!
Just like the designer himself, the scent is sexy, feminine with a masculine twist, totally OOOOOOZING sex…. and, of course, is clad in designer clothing!
Jean Paul Gaultier for me, every time!
Big kisses Portia….. loving perfumejunkies xxxxxxxx
