2007 was the year we saw Britney Spears suffer a very public breakdown. She spent time in rehab, shaved her head and lost custody of her children. 2007 is also the year that the Britney Spears fragrance Believe was released. Believe, one of the best perfumes from Britney Spears was released at a time when her life was in turmoil. Its times like this when you need to believe in the future. Britney managed to get through the tough times and get back in the spotlight for the right reasons appearing as a judge on America’s X-Factor in 2012.

Fragrance notes from Fragrantica
Top: guava and tangerine.
Heart: honeysuckle and linden blossom.
Base: patchouli, amber and sweet praline notes.

The green Believe bottle is quite spectacular, shaped like a multi-faceted triangular prism.

Believe starts out fresh and juicy with a delicious opening of tangerine and guava. This perfume deserves more than a quick sniff because if you rely on first impressions you will miss the best of this fragrance as it develops into a warm and spicy scent. There are beautiful soft florals and the perfume opens up with earthy notes from the patchouli and amber. Believe feels comforting with an easygoing patchouli that is cozy and warm. The praline carries on a delicious quality to the fragrance.

(Ed: Believe uses a softened version of the Mugler Angel base and is surprisingly wearable)

I haven’t been able to track down the name of the perfumer of Believe. Basenotes have the perfume listed as unknown. If I developed this fragrance I would proudly put my name on it.

  1. Hey Katrina,
It’s interesting, I was talking about Britney fragrances last night with a few new perfumistas. They are loving her stuff and collecting the whole range.
    Another great review.

    What a great review Katrina!
If I ever take my head out if my backside,
I might try it. But don’t hold your breath.
    Lots of love

  3. An interesting review. I have often dismissed Britney’s fragrances after trying Curious and Midnight Fantasy. Maybe some are worth a second look. It’s great when you can find a good sleb scent as they are usually pretty affordable, but sometimes you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find a prince.

Having said that I adore SJP Lovely and Jlo’s Deseo!

Curious and MIdnight Fantasy are quite simple scents compared with Believe and the original Fantasy (yumm). Haven’t tried Deseo yet but I definitely will now – thanks for the recommendation. Kat xx

  4. Dear Katrina
‘Britney is good scent shock’? Really?
I’m a little put off by the comparison with Angel and those top notes, which from a distance scream cheap soft drink…. but I’m still curious as this one seems to have crashed and burnt in the UK.
Perhaps there was something in it after all!
    Yours ever

Dearest Perfumed Dandy, If you don’t normally do fruit then it could be hard to get past the guava opening which I think is delicious and does remind me of my favourite fruit juice. But when the fruit fades though the perfume becomes something totally different – warm and spicy – really wonderful. Kat xx

My middle daughter who does u-tube tutorials on nail designs just did one on perfume bottles and she used my bottle of Fantasy….never wore the stuff but loved the bottle so much that my co-worker gave it to me when she finished the juice!
