Hi There Indie Perfume Ho’s and lovers of the finest fragrance,
I like to think that Liz Zorn, the perfumer behind the Soivohle range, artist and general creative genius and guru, and I are buddies. I adore her perfumes and own quite a few now, also recently she put some of her artworks up for sale and I was lucky enough to grab the one made for this fragrance, Jasmine Summer. It is a fabulous little painting and reflects the perfume excellently.

Jasmine Summer is a sheer, very slightly fruity, floral that creates an elegant soft nimbus of the real deal of jasmine, as if you have it growing outside your window and in full bloom. It is heady and intoxicating but not indolic, not a sign of breath or animal. Though Jasmine Summer is sheer it has terrific sillage and projects fabulously for the first few hours. Through the whole fragrance life jasmine is front and centre, it opens sizzling and citric before mildly warming, it does sweeten up a bit but it’s not till a couple of hours have passed that vanilla comes out to play and then it isn’t fully featured till the end dry down where the jasmine and vanilla get funky with the musks.

For anyone who eschews jasmine or big white florals for their nasty sensual breathy indoles then Jasmine Summer could be a good place for you to come and sniff, this is super soft and clean jasmine with plenty of air around it. It is a little like sitting in a wedding in India with all the women sitting with jasmine in their hair and the cool of evening after everyone has eaten their fill and is now sitting around eating fruits and chatting quietly, awaiting the next event.
I also love how Jasmine Summer lingers, around 6-7 hours with the second half softer and more intimate, a come hither fragrance. Sweet sixteen or septuagenarian will love wearing this beautiful fragrance.

Australian Perfume Junkies 
I don’t know this one. It sounds like it would float chiffon-like around us on summer evenings. I just ordered myself a bottle of her Vanillaville, which is a powerful smoke-tinged leather plushed out a bit with vanilla, if you can imagine such a thing. It’s quite masculine, and I’m going to spray it on my husband without identifying it as a vanilla perfume. Soivohle is an interesting line.

Great to see you. My fingers are crossed for your Vanillaville experiment. Have you tried Mona di Orio’s Vanille on him?
Yes, like chiffon, colourful, pretty, light and translucent. I am getting to wear Jasmine Summer a bit here in Spring but for the cooler nights it will be a perfect reminder.

Hmmm I should check this out. I have problems with Jasmine. It’s either too indolic for me, or too “wimpy.” I like Jasmine sambac, but a perfume exactly like it is too much. Jasmine grandiflora is the wimpy one for me.

I love most jasmines, and tend to lean toward the ones with a good dose of J. sambac in them. I know that some people find the J. sambac scent masculine, but it’s all in the context and the supporting cast of notes. I agree with you that when I find a jasmine scent too soft or vague it usually leans toward the J. grandiflora side

I don’t know where this will fit on your slide rule Belle. I prefer my jasmine indolic and hefty, somehow Liz has managed to maintain some heft while extracting the indole, it creates a whole new jasmine for me, like a jasmine sister.

I use jasmine sambac, grandiflorum and auriculatum absolutes at a 10% dilution (in fco) on a pretty regular basis. They are all different but all seem to make me happy! Jasmine Summer sounds lovely. I love the other scents that I have from Liz Zorn and won’t hesistate to try this one. The prices are great too.

Hi Belle,
To me auriculatum is like a new gardenia, a just opening gardenia flower. It has an element of indole but is greener and lighter to me than a gardenia. The grandiflora is quite sweet and softly fruity on my skin and the sambac is the darkest and most indolic of the three.

One of the great things about Liz Zorn and SIOVOHLE is that you can get 4 x 11ml fragrances for around the $100 mark. Excellent testing size and should it not be to your taste it’s a wonderful gift size.

I MUST try this one. Your description makes me think of when I was 12 years old and my parents bought a house with a large overgrown yard. I was out one day and caught a whiff of a beautiful scent and followed it to some pretty and small white flowers. If Jasmine Summer smells like this, I would be in heaven!

I think our scent memories of household jasmine are pretty similar Maya, I loved the smell of jasmine from the side of the house as a child too, ethereal but solid as a wall.
