Nuit Etoilée by Isabelle Doyen for Annick Goutal 2012

Hello Frag Hags,

Great to see you all. I thought that you could probably all do with something cool and calm after your big Friday & Saturday nights out, so today I thought a fragrance called Starry Night or Nuit Etoilée would be a perfect balm.

Fragrantica gives these featured acords:
Top: Citron, sweet orange, peppermint
Heart: Siberian pine, fir resin
Base: Angelica seed, tonka, immortal

The picture above is for the old bottle, the new clear bottle is below. What a shame Pacific Amore has decided to change the very beautiful blue. The minute I heard I ran out and bought a square mens bottles from one of the Facebook groups because I love them so much, it’s about 99% full and I got a very good deal. YAY!! Happy days.

That sweet minty citrus burst at the open is like drinking champagne punch with little green chewy bits of mint chopped and floating through it. It was my Mum’s favourite family party drink and she would make a large glass punch bowl up as everyone started arriving, we kids were given a beaker when we were small just to have a taste so that we felt part of it all. As we got older we were given glasses and when I finally realised that I was a big kid was when I was handed one of the glass punch cups with grapes and fruit embossed around the outside, there seemed to be HUNDREDS of these glasses when we were young but when Mum died and we had to clean out the stuff she’d amassed there were only 24 and the whole set was packed away perfectly awaiting the next party. Memories!! Joyous, fun, sun filled memories.

Yes, Nuit Etoilee warms up after the open but the lovely minty, citric fizz doesn’t leave for quite a while. Underneath it though comes a warm resinous woodsy melange that flirts underneath for ages before it decides it is time to take over. Like getting out of a cool pool and lying in the sun to dry, warm/cold then warmer and then dry. The immortelle, resins and tonka are sweet and dry. Nuit Etoilee really does dry down, the whole fragrance changes to earthy, dry flowers that have a slight vanilla/amber sweetness that has nothing to do with food.

Nuit Etoilee is not a super long lasting fragrance, I’m lucky to get four hours before I lose all traces of it. Soft enough for most workplaces, great for the calm and cool stuff. In fact, I could see Nuit Etoilee very easily becoming a go to signature scent. I has the lovely fresh opening that becomes a warm bear hug of a fragrance, it could work all year for you.

    Dear Portia,

I follow your blog, and I am the Barcelona online friend of Birgit.

I read this now and, if you don’t know, yesterday I saw the Annick Goutal Christmas collection and….the blue Papillon bottle is one of them!

I think there are 4 more, the most famous by this brand, but as I love this fresh perfume, I will get it!

It comes in a big white box, jewelry style, as it has the pump and golden fennel!

It costs 202 € 100ml edp in Essenza Nobile online shop located in Germany.
Not still ready to ship, they say 1st December, I think to remember.

If you didn’t know, jump lol. If already knew, well, I tried.

    Love, Silvia in Barcelona, Spain

Thanks Silvia!! That’s great news for lovers of the blue bottle. If you don’t have it then now is your chance.

THANK YOU!!! You need to see Beauty Encounter and buy the EDP too – in the blue/ribboned spray :-)( this also applies to Mon Parfum Cherie – you really need both strengths! and the gorgeous plum bottles!!) Amore Pacific and Goutal are divorced – Thank the Lord!! A French ownership will ensue in January 2014; do not know their name. We can all hope and pray that AG`s detail and colors return :-)!!

      Hey Hotlanta Linda,
This from WWD November 8, 2013
AmorePacific, which began its international travel retail business in 2009, plans to launch its Lolita Lempicka and Annick Goutal fragrance brands in the channel starting in 2015, said Jung-Hoi Moon, a staff member on the company’s international travel retail team, part of the luxury business unit. He said AmorePacific’s goal is to become a top-seven global beauty company by 2020.
Doesn’t look like they’re letting go yet.

Hey!! My divorce update is from Bergdorf Goodman`s Tom Crutchfield, who `had` Goutal for many years, loves the line, and just this year he went to Roja Dove out of frustration w/ A. Pacific`s lack of support for the AG brand. It`s very possible Goutal is only letting AP distribute in Asia – need the call Tom!! 🙂

      • australianperfumejunkies says:

We could both be right. Fingers crossed for French ownership of AG>

    Dear Miss P.
What a lovely story about your Mum! I just love how perfume can open doors to the past.
By the way I was at a launch last night and ran into Brooke Baird who you met on that sniff trip to Los Angeles. Well we just both went on and on about how much we adore you and how jealous I was to have missed you when you came to California. You were THE talk of the party last night! So if you come to SF we just have to have a SF Sniff Tour with you and Brooke and the whole SF Sniff gang. We love you over here honey.

YAY!! I can’t wait to meet you too. We are planning LA Las Vegas and NYC in November 2014. I will give you plenty of warning so you can come hang somewhere. I am with my buddies for two of their 40th Birthdays so the itinerary is not mine to chose, there may be a small side trip to Chicago.
LA ScentSation was one of my life highlights, we had a ball.
You are the sweetest Lanier, thank you for being my friend,

I love Nuit Etoilee! It is currently the only Annick Goutal full bottle (50 mLs) and I happen to have the lovely blue bottle. It is perfect for a damp day in fall and winter as it evokes a refreshing warmth and dryness, kind of like the empty space inside a cloud of smoke

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      WOW Hajusuuri,
What a fabulously evocative sentence. “it evokes a refreshing warmth and dryness, kind of like the empty space inside a cloud of smoke”
      Beautiful.
Thank you, I will steal that sentence and use it in conversation if you don’t mind.

      • hajusuuri says:

Steal away, Portia. You are one of the few who got what I am saying when I describe how I feel whenever I wear Nuit Etoilee 🙂

  5. Undina says:

I like though do not love Nuit Etoilee and I would have never bought a full bottle if it came in a plane glass. I hope the brand will be punished for their greed (because I cannot explain getting rid of beautiful colored bottles by any good reason other than saving a buck or two on the production).

Yes, I think you are right Undina. There will be a backlash. Having a beautiful, different bottle can push me over the edge from like to purchase in a heartbeat.

  6. Tara C says:

I just grabbed a pretty blue bottle of the edp from fragrancenet.com. I didn’t care for the edt at all, but the edp was lovely with the citrus, mint and pine tope and sweet earthy drydown. Readers, be sure to try both! 🙂

  7. Natalie says:

I love this bottle, and think it is so disappointing that they are discontinuing it. The plain glass isn’t nearly as pretty.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

You were there when I bought mine Natalie,
      That was a fun day.
Yes, the clear glass never would have pushed me across the line.
