Please go check out my personal favourite Byredo fragrances. They all have special meaning through my own enjoyment or because they are my close friends fragrances. Byredo has excellent quality and interesting mixtures yet still retain the wearability that I love in a good fragrance.

  1. I look forward to reading your reviews very much. Perfume Junkies have introduced me to brands, makers and scents I had previously never heard of.
Your blog and reviews are like receiving a handwritten letter rather an a window envelope in the mail. :))

  2. Byredo is such an interesting house. I’ve tried Pulp, 7 Veils, and Bal d’ Afrique. All very unique, interesting and very wearable!

  3. I have few from the house including Pulp, Bal D’Afrique//Bal D’ Afrique is not bad but I am still trying to understand Pulp..it’s popularity does puzzle me a bit because it is so fruit overload

    • Hi there Fazal,
Yes, it pushes the fruit overload boundaries well beyond norms and though I don’t love it on me, on my friend it smells amazing.

  4. Hi Portia, My job can have some challenging and at times particularly crass moments. I therefore, always like to feel that I am protected by the scent of a good fragrance. I know I can always rely on any recommendation from you to do that job. Cheers. Your friend always. Lee Antoinette

  5. Hi there Portia,

Recently the fella, who’s seriously caught the perfume bug, was tempted to buy a sale-priced fb of ‘Mister Marvelous’ – just because he liked the name. I suggested that we get a sample first, and forgot all about it until now. So thanks not only for the draw, but for reminding me.

(PS: Instead he blind-bought not one but 3 hommes: Rochas, Gianfranco Ferre and Jaipur. Adorable, no?)

    • WOW! The HOMME is in the frag house! Coolio. Rochas in that sex toy bottle? Isn’t it fabulously outrageous? Jaipur is one of my faves, Boucheron are very underrated. A few years ago my last partner took me to stay at the Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, I sent him a bottle of Jaipur later to thank him.

      • Yep, the fab sex toy one! It lingers on him forever. Delicious!

Agreed on Jaipur – and on Boucheron being underrated. (He got an older bottle of edp at a great price. He’s getting really good at this!)

Portia, have you tried Boucheron’s ‘Place Vendome’? It’s nothing remarkable, however it is a quietly elegant and very pleasant light white floral with amazing longevity. Perfect for those occasions when you don’t want to offend the anti-fume brigade or need something discreet. And it’s in luxe-looking bottle. I’d say it’s tasteful all round – and infinitely better than a lot of the stuff put out by more “desirable” houses. And it’s currently going cheap online!

        • Kesbah,
I really love the EdT but the EdP goes funny on me in Place Vendome. Yes, I’ve seen it for a steal but have refrained from purchase so far. the bottle is beautiful.

  6. I didn’t smell any Byredo fragrance, but I’m so intrigued. These fragrances sound awesome, I need to sample some (Pulp, Seven Veils, Gipsy Water…). Another house I must discover!
    Thank you, Portia!

  8. i just happened to stumble across your page today and I’m happy that I did! I’m always on the look out for new perfumes to try. I particularly like the oud fragrances. My favourite is montale White oud followed by Killian’s rose oud. Unfortunately i haven’t been able to get it here in Australia

  9. We share two favorites – La Tulipe and Pulp. I own just decants of both but enjoy wearing them. I wore La Tulipe this morning (before I saw your post) and thought of how well it fitted the warm sunny morning. Pulp is one of my Hawaii vacation scents.

    • Undina, we are scent twined, and twinned, though I did not wear Byredo today.
One day I will meet you in Hawaii and we will spritz with abandon,
