Pet Fragrance, Taylor Swift’s Incredible Things

Post by Azar

No matter how much we love our furry and feathered friends, most natural pet odors (with the notable exception of Pionus Parrot Perfume) can sometimes be challenging to deal with.

That being said, Fender the dog is usually not a stink bomb. Even damp from PNW rain he maintains a pleasant furry scent with an intimate doggie sillage. There are times, though, for whatever reason, when he is quite ripe. On those days an immediate in-home bath or a trip to the groomer is in order.

Pet Fragrance

I have discussed doggie odors, as well as pet and people perfumes, at length with Fender’s stylist, “L”. Most dedicated pet parents know that perfumes made for people are not meant for dogs or cats. Some of the ingredients in our favorite fragrances can actually be harmful to pets. “L” has introduced me to several lines of pet perfumes and colognes. Some, like the offerings from Nature Labs, smell like designer fragrances. Her favorites for her clients include Arfmani, Aramutts, Ms. Claybone, CK-9 and Tommy Holedigger. I was also surprised to learn that Juicy Couture has come up with dog colognes and beauty products, the Juicy Crittoure line.

My preferred perfumes from Fender’s small collection include a discontinued seasonal beauty entitled Holiday Berry Kiss. HBK is, in fact, one of my favorite raspberry fragrances – for dogs or humans. Notes include sweet, tart raspberry, unripe pear, jasmine, rose and fresh water notes. I also enjoy Espree odor neutralizing Rainforest Cologne. This dog perfume is reminiscent of the gardenia and the other white florals in My Life by Mary J. Blige. While Fender rarely puts up with a lot of frou-frou, once in awhile he will tolerate a little spritz of Pucci.

Incredible Things by Elizabeth Arden for Taylor Swift 2014

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Pink pepper, grapefrui
Heart: Vanilla orchid, passion flower, suede
Base: White amber, creamy musk, Madagascan vanilla, Haitin vetiver

A couple of months ago “L” was living through some very frustrating experiences. What better way to help a fellow perfumista than a gift of her favorite fragrance? She loves the perfumes of Jennifer Aniston, especially the first one, sometimes called Lovalie (2010). I believe that the clean, light soapiness of Lovalie must be a much-needed respite after long hours surrounded by heavy-duty animalic odors. I easily found this first Jennifer Aniston online but the second one, J introduced in 2014, was a bit of a challenge to locate. I finally tracked it down, on sale at my local Target store and purchased the last one in stock. Prominently displayed above the Jennifer Aniston section was Taylor Swift’s new fragrance Incredible Things (2014). I bravely gave myself a generous spray and was surprised and impressed by a beautiful, livable coconut and an eye-popping grapefruit spiced with pink pepper. The circuitous route to my discovery of Incredible Things reminded me that I never know where or when a new fragrance adventure will come my way!

      Hi Portia,
I’m glad you enjoyed it. It was fun to write about pet perfumes. I have to tell you that Brad was my guinea pig for a blind test of the four fragrances in the draw. He chose Fender’s Holiday Berry Kiss!

I would love to try the Taylor Swift scent for my niece she just went and saw her in concert
I love J Aniston perfume as well.

    • Azar says:

      Hi Jessi,
I was really surprised that I liked Incredible Things. There are no coconut notes listed but to me it is one of the few coconuts I can handle;) Another “obvious but not present”
note! Thank you for joining the draw. You are IN!

I tried Chanel’s Chance Eau Fraiche today and decided it wasn’t for me. If I end up trying and liking a pet perfume more, I hope Chanel won’t find out… follow by email. 😀

    • Azar says:

      Hey Jaybee!
LOL! You are in! I wonder if Chanel will ever reach the point when making dog perfumes become a necessary marketing strategy? 😉 BOGO coordinated scents for human and pet.

Funny petfume post made me larf!
My first Toller used to roll in anything resembling Charnel no 5, but he had a natural skin scent resembling curry. Weird.
I have a new little red dog who will eat anything he finds. Don’t ask, but please scent him with Holiday Berry Kiss instead!
    I follow by email.

    • Azar says:

Wow! Charnel no 5! I’m afraid to ask what the notes were, Jackie b! BTW I wish I could get more of that Holiday Berry Kiss perfume. Darn it! I hate when my favorite fragrances are discontinued. You are so IN!

By email and I don’t have pet or celebrity scents. I just picked up two vintage Red Doors at a thrift but not a fan. I like Jaqueline. Not sure if that counts.

    • Azar says:

      Hello gina,
Red Door will work for this post! 😉 Re Jaqueline: Are you talking about the vintage by Z perfumes? Is there another Jaqueline celeb or pet? Oh yes! You are IN!

    Hi G-ma Azar –

Your Grand-Doggie Olga here… I follow APJ on twitter. I was so excited to read a post about pet stuff… but I’m not sure how I feel about a citrusy perfume. Especially when my natural scent is very lovely and fills our home quite nicely. As far as a fragrance adventure is concerned I unfortunately haven’t had one lately. Over the weekend I smelt a skunk and wanted to go outside and fight it but I wasn’t allowed. Had to settle for crazy late night barking.

    • Azar says:

      Hi Olga,
I rrove rrou! I also rrove looking at your pictures on twitter. I’m sure that keeps your mom really busy. About the skunk: How did she smell to you? And yes, of course, you are IN the draw. We don’t limit it to humans.
      G-ma Azar xx and X

      • Olga says:

I rruve rrou too! Thanks for entering me in the draw! I don’t know how to describe skunk smell, I usually like stinky stuff. But this stink makes me angry and I want to attack it!

  7. poodle says:

Ya know, it’s funny you mention Pionus parrot perfume…that pionus I was eyeing a while back is STILL at that store. She’s a bit of a dud when people look at her. I asked the shop owner how much she was the other day when I brought the boys for their nails and wing trims and she said she wanted me to come back to see her on a quiet day because she thinks my house might be a good fit for the bird. I’m not sure I want 3 birds but I hate to see a good smelling bird without a home. She’s shy and the commotion in the store causes her to just sit and sulk.
Beyond that, poodle paws smell like popcorn. I love that.

    • Azar says:

Popcorn Poodle Paws. I love that too!

As you probably already know, pionus are generally shy…BUT NOT QUIET as some people say…just shy! When Gomez is in a mood I can hear him outside a block away from the house. His speaking voice is quite soft, though. Perhaps the females are not screamers?

Three birds seem a bit of a stretch but who am I to talk. At one point my pet household consisted of Gomez, four parakeets (Bluey, Chico, Boo-Boo and Yogi), three chihuahuas (Mocha, Pokey and Chick), Caesar the cat and a salt water fish tank. Old age claimed the parakeets and the chis, a nasty raccoon got Caesar and I gave up salt water fish keeping after 20 years of water changes. These days it is just Gomez and Fender and that is about my pet limit. That being said, pionus are really wonderful birds. Is the one you are looking at a blue headed like Gomez?

      Azar xx

      • poodle says:

She is a blue headed like Gomez. His colors are prettier I think because he’s older.

      • Azar says:

        Hi Poodle,
Yes, she should brighten up as she matures. I would be interested to know if you decide to take the plunge for another parrot!

  8. Kandice says:

What a fun post! I loved this! I currently don’t have a dog but I do have a cat. He usually smells warm and furry and quite wonderful on his own. However yesterday I guess he thought he wanted to smell even better. When I picked him up he smelled furry and like Nag Champa incense. Apparently he’d been playing in the ashes of what I’d burned earlier. While I’d love to smell the celebuscents DNEM. Someone with a dog would benefit more from this draw.!

    • Azar says:

      Hi Kandice,
Thank you for dropping by and for your comment. Nag Champa is a favorite incense around here too. We don’t have a cat to play in the ashes, though. I’m afraid Gomez the pionus might be dinner for a kitty even though he does have a pretty sharp beak to defend himself. His natural pionus perfume is a wonderful honey, powdery fragrance. He only favors us with his scent when he is very happy or very interested in something or someone.

  9. cookie queen says:

You are a fabulous and brave woman. What a fantastic post! DNEM.
I have a cat who smells permanently lovely. She only roams the roof of our apartement so it’s easy to stay sweet.
    Hugs. xxx

    • Azar says:

      Hi Cookie,
It is what the pets find on THEIR fragrant adventures that can be difficult for us humans. Your kitty sounds very civilized. Caesar (an ex barn cat) once brought us a large possum. That was certainly a smelly surprise!

  10. Fazal Cheema says:

i have never smelled a pet perfume but i do wonder how they are different from perfumes intended for human use….my recent perfumes adventures have been focused on rose perfumes including acquisitions of amouage lyric men and women and oud ispahan 🙂 i follow APJ through email. thanks for the generous draw.

    • Azar says:

      Hi Fazal Cheema,
I was reading the label on the Rainforest Cologne and the most obvious difference is that the alcohol has been replaced by purified water. And yes, anything by Amouage is a beautiful fragrance adventure! Thank you for joining the draw 🙂
      Azar xx

      • Fazal Cheema says:

I know some have been praising Amouage even now but I am kind of not liking the new direction the brand is is losing its DNA and i think a brand’s longevity depends upon how close it stays to its DNA, that thing which differentiates it from others

  11. Morrigan says:

Please don’t enter me, my house is run by cats, not dogs, and I doubt my guys would be impressed with me upsetting their natural ‘odeur’ – just wanted to say I loved your post, and that your dog’s name is Fender! Is it after the guitar brand, or perhaps short for ‘Defender’?

    • Azar says:

      Thank you Morrigan!
Yes, his name is Fender, after the guitar (or a car fender of a defender or an offender) His stylist “L” gave him a small Fender stuffed guitar for Christmas last year. It is one of his favorite toys. For a photo of Fender see my December 12, 2014 post here on APJ.

  12. Sun Mi says:

Azar! Please DNEM, but hehe I loved this post. What fun! Our dog smells terrible much of the time. She just loves loves loves rolling around in deer and rabbit poo, which there is no shortage of in our yard it seems. 🙂

    • Azar says:

      Hi Sun Mi,
I have to admit that even Fender will roll in wildlife poo if he has the chance (and if he knows I’m not looking)! Writing this post was fun. It made me realize there is yet another world of fragrance out there to enjoy and perhaps even wear myself 😉
