Oriza L. Legrand Sample Set

Post by Portia

Heya Gorgeous People,

I recently bought the Oriza L Legrand Sample Pack. Sheesh! There are SO MANY fragrances in this line in only 4 years. 16 fragrances! That’s a lot. €38 for 16 x 2ml samples and FREE World Shipping is a rare opportunity to smell them all. So begins the rather daunting Oriza L Legrand adventure….. I’m going to test some for the first time and give you my 20 minute run of them in word association.

Heliotrope Blanc Oriza L. Legrand 2014

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Orange blossom, heliotrope, violet leaf
Heart: Almond, heliotrope, mimosa, iris
Base: Musk, heliotrope, rice, benzoin, tonka bean

Soapy, powdery, breathy and all together fabulous. Very waxy, a little bit make-up-ish and quite pretty. The green is squeaky under the powder and then the creamy nuttiness of almond comes through just enough to balance it out. There is something quite alcoholic about Heliotrope Blanc, the sharp tang of rice wine in amongst the maquillage. Once the breathy opening is gone all humanity leaves and we are left with a cold powder, a shimmering eye shadow and a waxy lipstick. Perfect for a Drag Queen, wearing it tonight.

Reve d’Ossian Oriza L. Legrand 2012

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Incense, aldehydes, maritime pine
Heart: Cinnamon, benzoin, elemi, tonka bean, guaiac wood, opoponax
Base: Balsamic notes, sandalwood, leather, labdanum, amber, musk

Sparkling incense, dry, desiccated and shimmering over a woodsy, dusty heart of resins. Hints of make-up and fur coats, cool winds and chanting monks. Reve d’Ossian reminds me of McLeodgang in the Indian Himalayas where the Dalai Lama and his monks live in exile. The smell of wet wood, dry incense, humanity and hope is all hidden in this beautiful gem. The dry down is sweeter and warmer, almost cozy but still holds the cool unburned incense smell inside.

Muguet Fleuri Oriza L. Legrand 2014

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Green leaves, grass, lily-of-the-valley
Heart: Galbanum, angelica, violet leaf, lily-of-the-valley
Base: Lily-of-the-valley, oakmoss, lily

If you like Muguet des Bois by Coty and are unafraid of ultra green, thick coiling ropes of galbanum then you may have found your fragrance. Muguet Fleuri is a cool, green, lotv powerhouse that bypasses all cleaning product references and goes straight for the ice cold metallic modern style. Backed by violet leaf and lily with a medicinal sweet/sharpness I find it arresting, aloof and vegetal, verging on bitter. Relentlessly green even as it fades to nothing. LOVE it.

I love the Heliotrope Blanc. It’s fabulous.
It’s on my list of “Perfumes I haven’t got around to buying yet, but really must.” I will now. ❤️

Hey Val! Great to see you. WOW! So glad I’ve found something you love. I can imagine you bathed in HBs fluffy beauty, you would be utterly delicious in it.
      So no change really.

Hi Portia! Great price for their sample set. Like Val I love Heliotrope Blanc – it was an easy pretty perfume which I find comforting. You smell great. Sandra xo

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

Aha! You and Val and I are frag triplets. It’s a super lovely scent Sandra, yes, very wearable but slightly challenging. One day we will all have to douse ourselves in it together and go shopping.

I haven’t tried anything from this line, Portia but now I know to make a bee-line for Reve d’Ossian if I ever come across it.

      Oh Tara,
I can definitely see you in Rd’O. YUM on you, and go with that dark lustrous hair and those flashing eyes of yours.
      Perfect fit.

I loved reading these raw miniature stream-of-consciousness reviews! Portia you are such an inspirational poet. I feel like I’ve tried these myself now. xo

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hey Erica,
You are kind, what a lovely thing to write.
Smiling from ear to ear over here.

  5. Jackie b says:

Don’t you love the old style bottles?
I have sampled a couple and am a bit obsessed with Reve d’Ossian, but it is so elusive and fleeting on my skin.
Look forward to your next reviews.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

Yes, the bottles are so hefty and solid, they feel great in my hand.
So weird Jackie B that Rd’O is fleeting on you. It lasts forever on my skin which is unusual, next day I can still get cool whiffs, even after a shower.

  6. Azar says:

    Hi Portia,
Muguet Fleuri sounds like the one for me! So cool. But then again your review of Reve d’Ossian is so compelling. I have not tried any of these – yet. Time to change that.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hey there Azar,
It’s the best value set I’ve found so far. Followed very closely by the Olympic Orchids set.
Lovely to see you, as always.

Thanks for your impressions! I haven’t tried any of these. I recently smelled a few at Twisted Lily. I started with Deja le Printemps which was a pretty enough springy green, but was stunned and awestruck by Chypre Mousse that I got no further. I haven’t pulled the trigger on a bottle, because 100ml, but it’s one of the most compelling things I’ve smelled in a while. I’ve been tempted by that sample set, though. It’s a pretty good deal!

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hi Elisa P,
Chypre Mousse was pretty amazing, I felt a bit overwhelmed by it if memory serves me correctly.
Yes, 100ml is huge but the prices are very reason, less than many 50ml niche offerings. My FB is Jardins d’Armide, the soapy, powder bomb. LOVE IT!

What a timely post. I have some Oriza L. Legrand samples coming in soon. They include Muguet Fleuri and their new one, Villa Lympia, which I have high hopes for.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hi there Maya,
Can’t wait to read what you think about the new one. It sounds really good.

I’m in search of a fabulous cosmetic powder scent. Heliotrope Blanc might be a possibility. Would it be okay even if I’m not a drag queen? 😉

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

HA HA HA! Poodle, maybe it will help you unleash your inner drag queen. You’re hilarious. Definitely give it a whirl.

  10. Mary says:

I absolutely love Rêve d ‘Ossian and find it has great longevity. But there are plenty of others from this house that I enjoy very much too…Chypre Mousse, Relique d’Amour for example. But I do wish they made smaller sizes.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

Hey Mary, Nice to meet another fan.
I suppose the good thing is with 100ml you can share it around.
It would be nice if they did a 15ml travel spray, I would happily pay 30 Euros for it or they could do a 4 pack for 100 euros and we could have a choice.
      In a perfect world.

I have not tried any but I am intrigued by Chypre Mousse
