Hi Fragrant Friends!

Heres I am writing from my small island home in the great Pacific Northwest….

Funny thing about this new Chanel…when I first wore it I was decidedly ambivalent about it. So I wore it the next day, just to be sure. And then the next day and and and…..now I am completely obsessed with it, and find myself reaching for it at some point almost every day!!!

Boy Chanel Chanel FragranticaFragrantica

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Lavender, rose, lemon, grapefruit, rose geranium, orange blossom, sandalwood, heliotrope, vanilla, musk.
The CHANEL website also adds fern to the list.

Boy EdP is classified as an Aromatic Fougere. Now admittedly, the fougere family of scent is not one of my favorites, I find the notes to be scarce and repetitive, and they often go bitter/sour on my skin. However this new Chanel for the Les Exclusifs range is working out just fine and dandy, actually WAAAY beyond my expectations!

Boy capel ChanelCHANEL

Named after one of Coco Chanel’s early lovers, Arthur “Boy” Capel, was a famous sportsman and self-made millionaire who was tragically killed in an auto accident on his way to a rendezvous with Ms. Chanel at Christmas in 1919. Their tempestuous affair lasted for twelve years.

Boy opens with a blast of sweet lavender and heliotrope, but the sweetness quickly dissipates as the herbal qualities of the fougere step forward surrounded by musk, and what I think of as the classic Chanel (Chanelade?) notes found throughout the perfume range.

Solidly unisex, with a feeling of a vintage Chanel, but given a contemporary twist from grapefruit and lemon giving this an almost cologne-like vibe.

Yes there might be better scents in the Les Exclusifs range in my opinion, but I would (and have already) gladly add “Boy” to my full bottle collection! Sorry….gotta’ go re-apply!

Very excited about this one Robert,
The name makes me cringe but the scent sounds super wearable and yummy.

It really took me by surprise, given that I’m not that fond of lavender. I’ll be interested in your thoughts!?????

Don’t have any and never met a Chanel that I’ve liked so far but dying to try Cuir de Russie because I love leather.

    • Robert H. says:

If you can find it check out Russia Leather, which is the Chanel vintage version of Cuir De Russia. It’s glorious!❤️❤️❤️❤️

I CANNOT wait to wear Boy. I love Chanel snd it always makes me feel good.
I own Coromandel, 31RC, Cuir de Russie, Extrait and EdT, Bois de Iles, Extrait and EdT, and Misia. I wear them all regularly. I’d like own a few more. If the talk is true, and Chanel is changing the rest to EdP versions, then I would probably by Bel Respiro on the spot. It is the only one that does not last 2 minutes on me. I hope they have it instore in Vienna next trip. Hugs. xxx

Let me know what you think when you get to try this. I love so many in the line, but the extraits are what really make me swoon, esp Bois Des Iles and 1932!?????

Sounds delightful. I love lavender and rose 🙂

And I am quite fond of Chanels. My favorite exclusif is Jersey, in the extrait version. Ahhh, lovely!!

I loved No.22 since way back before it was an Exclusifs. I wish it was still available at the mall. Things were so much easier then.
I have learned to love most of the Chanel scents and I do think there’s a Chanelade that runs through quite a few of them.

  7. Robert H. says:

Have you tried the 22 parfum/extrait? Its a whole orher level of LOVE!! Very few Chanels that I don’t like, I must say. If they were as prolific as Guerlain, I’d be screwed and bankrupt! LOL! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

    Hi Robert,
My extended experience of Chanel is limited to Nos 5, 19, Crystal and the original Gardenia. I’ve sampled Misia, liked it at first, but then registered a sort of – “so what”. I suppose that is fortunate as the Exclusifs, now banned from the sample and decant stores, have become just too exclusive for me to bother with. No stores out here in the hinterland…
    Azar xx

    • Robert H. says:

Hi Azar, fortunately for us the downtown Nordie’s has a fantastic Chanel frag boutique, with an excellent SA “of a certain age” who really knows her stuff. She pushed me towards Sycomore a few years back and I have never regretted it. Only my checking acct. regrets it! Hope you are well and enjoying this gorgeous June day! ????

I’ve been looking for a review of this. I agree with Portia; the name is stupid. Still, you make the fragrance sound a lot more interesting than I’d been led to believe, and I’ll definitely give it a try if I can find some locally.

You do make it sound as though the longevity is quite poor; is that the case?

    • Robert H. says:

Hi Greg, it did take more than a few wearings for me to love this one, and like many Chanels the longevity can be an issue. I get a solid 6 hours out of it, but everyone’s different so who knows? A few folks on the various FB have decants going I noticed today. You might want to give that a try!

  10. Neva says:

Thanks for the review. I was very curious to try this one and today finally I managed. At the beginning it was WOW -I could like this one. It was all fresh with lavender and I smelled even mint for the first minute. Then it got more herbal/green and the sweetness kicked in, still very good. I took a few sprays on my arm and walked happily out of the shop. After half an hour it is nothing but bitter powdery lavender with a hint of vanilla on my skin…I don’t like it. This base I’ve found in many Chanel perfumes (Jersey, the old Egoiste) and it’s definitely not for me.
On the paper strip it’s still smells good – like a strong powdery flower bouquet. And it’s an extrait so the longevity should be fine (which means I’ll have to take a shower to take it off :-D)

    • Robert H. says:

Hey Neva! Yeah the very first time I applied I scrubbed within 2 hours. NOT a lavender fan after all those years (70’s, 80’s) of bad candles and room sprays. Decided to give it another chance since there are so many Chanels I really love. And BOOM, all of a sudden it was a ❤️❤️❤️❤️!! Now I have to go back and re-try Jersey, another one that didn’t like. Go figure. xoxo
