Cookie Queen: Perfumes I Have Worn In 2016

Post by Val the Cookie Queen

Good Day APJ.

What is a REAL blogger anyway?

Over the years I have thoroughly enjoyed bloggers’ roundups of best perfumes including what have they have been wearing. Not considering myself a proper blogger it did not occur me that I could do my own list. However, it will be four years with APJ for me next year so bloody hell, I will award myself the status of “blogger”

Cookie Queen: Perfumes I Have Worn In 2016

I do not wear samples. I try samples out on my left wrist, and if I get over excited perhaps on both wrists. I only wear perfumes that I have full bottles of. (All perfumistas have idiosyncratic behaviours – don´t you?)

VERO PROFUMO. All of them of course! Most worn this year would be the Kikis, I nearly finished a bottle of the juicy, delicious, erotic, sadly under-rated Kiki EdP. The Kiki Extrait is laced with ambergris and is so divine I worked my way through at least 15 mls of it. The Kiki Voile a Prozac of a perfume. 🙂

HERMÈS. I received a bottle of Hermès Doblis as a gift at the beginning of the year, a belated birthday present. Probably the most exquisite perfume I have ever been given. Also in heavy rotation was the Muguet Porcelaine. This stunning lily-of-the-valley is wonderful in cool weather. Cuir d’Ange, a favourite for the last couple of years, was worn as much ever. And more recently Osmanthe Yunnan also fab in cold weather, although if you believe all you read you would be forgiven for assuming it is a summer scent.

CHANEL. Bois des Iles Parfum and EdT. Cuir de Russie Parfum and EdT. Misia EdT. Coromandel EdT. And the heliotrope heavy Boy EdP.

GUERLAIN. Shalimar Extrait Vintage, Shalimar Extrait current. Shalimar Eau de Cologne.

AROMA M. Geisha Noire EdP and Oil. Vanilla Hinoki EdP and Oil.

LANCÔME. Cuir de Lancôme.

Hermès Galop d’Hermès Parfum

I don´t want to get carried away with my newfound status as a real blogger so I will only select one. Without a second thought it goes to Hermès Galop d’Hermès Parfum. A poised and elegant perfume. The rose, the quince, the saffron and leather. It´s a work of art.

There are a number of new fragrances that I did try and enjoy, but they did not make the full bottle grade. I love the scene, the people, the perfume shows, and the vibe of the fragrant world. But the many hundred of new launches have me running for cover. I do own other perfumes, including a number of Lutens but this was not their year.

What perfumes do you REALLY wear huh? I am über-interested.

    Heya Val,
Lovely round up. I blame you entirely for my Hermès Muguet Porcelain love and Cuir d’Ange is also a firm fave.
I also bought my bottle of Bois des Iles in Vienna, with you. Mine is the EdT though.

Hi Honey. I have the EdT and the Extrait as I am sure you do too! I am gonna treasure the EdT because I do NOT like the EdP anywhere near as much. Yep – CdA is always a lovely. Bussis. Thanks for dropping in from Korea or wherever you`re lurking. xxxx

Great that you are owning your status as a blogger at last! Four years is amazing. I love lists and to hear what people are actually wearing.
However, I am now incredibly tempted to blind buy Galop as a Christmas present to myself.

Hi Tara! I did forget to add Samsara and Angel Muse which I have been wearing a lot of late. Yeah – the Galop. I absolutely love it. I need to decant some to dab, I think it would be awesome dabbed. Or buy the gorgeous refill bottle. 🙂 Hannah keeps stealing it, she loves it too. For an extrait it has a great sillage. It wears for at least 12 hours. xxxx

  3. Sabine says:

2016 was not much of a sample year for me, and some of my full bottles didn’t see much usage, so I REALLY wore: Laboratorio Olfattivo’s Nirmal, Shalimar (various), Salome by Papillon, Black by Puredistance, Charogne by Etat libre, Cuir Ottoman, Les Nereides Patchouli, Aedes de Venustas, Musc Ravageur.

    • cookie queen says:

Hello Sabine! It´s really interesting to see what you REALLY wore! Thanks for commenting. Not too many either huh? I so love the Nereides Patchouli and dug out the few mls I have stashed to wear again the other day after you reminding me of it! Hugs. xxxxx

  4. Wendy says:… how exactly do you define “REALLY wore”?? I have a cupboard full of perfumes (all tucked away in those handy plastic multi drawer storage systems) and I try to wear something different every day, so that there is no jealousy amongst the bottles… Does that count? So I hardly ever wear the same fragrance more than twice, unless it is the same fragrance, just a different concentration (like Shalimar or Bandit, or Mitsouko or L’Heure Bleue)… I have samples, but I don’t wear them during the day, so they do not count as “full wear”….

    • cookie queen says:

Hi Wendy! Great to see another take on REALLY. Hahahaha. Of course it counts. It all counts doesn´t it? 😉 I don´t wear something different every day. I enjoy wearing the same perfume three or four days in a row, especially with the ones I truly love. But that could suddenly change. Perhaps I will have a manic Lutens month. Who knows? No, samples do not count as “full wear”! Absolutely not. Lots of love, Val. xxxxx

  5. Sandra says:

Great perfumes Val! You have a really good selection there. I could not agree with you more about Galop – just love it. I have been wearing mostly comforting perfumes this year- Cuir Beluga, Shalimar, Ashoka, Mohur, Osmanthus Yunnan, Bois d’Argent and Vanille Cuir. Sandra xoxo

    • cookie queen says:

Oh I shall have to have a good spray of some of those you mention. As I sit and watch the build up to The Election results – I need some comfort. I want to buy a bottle of the osmanthus Yunnan. I have a 15ml but it´s nearly gone. Way late to the osmanthus party but who cares? See you veeeeery soon!!! xxxxxxxx

  6. Tara C says:

I finally bought Kiki extrait this spring, it’s delicious. I have been into gourmands and leathers this year so there’s been a lot of Bottega Veneta, Cuir Cannage, Fève Délicieuse, Musc Ravageur, Dries Van Noten, etc. This weekend I tried Lancome Lavandes Trianon which is a gourmand lavender, probably going to need a bottle of that along with the Jasmins Marzipane of the same line. However I just received my new Tauer Au Coeur du Désert, MFK Grand Soir and Tom Ford Vert d’Encens which are going to be getting a lot of wear this winter. It’s been a good perfume year for me.

    • cookie queen says:

Evening Tara! Isn´t the Kiki Extrait beautiful? The Veros remain my favourites, especially the extraits. I really must try the Bottega Veneta, and the Lancôme sounds divine. I´ll be in Switzerland soon and plan on trying Andy´s Au Cœurdu Désert, looking forward to that. let´s hope 2017 is as good huh? Bussis. Val xxxxxx

You are as real a blogger as anyone out there! I am grateful to you for introducing me to a number of the scents you have been wearing, notably Cuir d’Ange (I shan’t forget the spritzing of a certain singer with that in Augsburg in a hurry, hehe), Doblis, and the Geisha range from Aroma M. Well, also the Muguet, though it wasn’t so great on me. I was most curious to try it though. So for someone whose perfume bandwidth is quite tight, you have done a lot of enabling for me this year!

    • cookie queen says:

Augsburg. 🙂 I think the Muguet is either you do or you don´t. I dunno if I would have a huge bottle, but 2 x 15mls is enough. Counts as a small bottle huh? Love and hugs, xxxxxxx

The ones I wear a lot have lavender and heliotrope and vanilla with white florals. I love and wear Chanel Boy, Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere and Chanel No. 5 L’eau as well as Isabey Fleur Nocturne, Guerlain Mon Exclusif, Guerlain Angelique Noire, Penhaligon’s Lavandula and Diptyque Do Son. I managed to lose my Sweet Morphine. Arrgghh. Must find it before it’s devoured by dust bunnies…. Also wear Prada Purple Rain and Prada Cargo de Nuit and Annick Goutal’s Nuit Etoilee a lot. Night time favorite is YSL Black Opium. So relaxing….

    • cookie queen says:

Hey Ricky! Boy is wonderful. I can´t believe how different it is on the cold weather. The lavender is much more pronounced, the whole composition very warm. I have some Angelique Noire, must retry. It was too sweet for me but that was like, three years ago. Should be nice and aged by now! Thanks for dropping by, so enjoyable to see what rocks the boats of others. Big hug, Val.x xxxxx

  9. Claire says:

4 years? My dear Val, not only are you a perfume blogger but you are an experienced one! You are a real perfume fairy too. I don’t know if you remember, but you introduced me to Cuir d’Ange and all the Veros by sending me samples of them in October/November 2014 🙂 Thank you again for that delicious package of….perfume awakening! I don’t own any Vero yet but I do own Cuir d’Ange and love it.

This year, I have been sampling a lot but also adding steadily to my collection. About half the time, I am wearing ouds and attars because I am writing a guide to attars that will probably never ever been finished at the rate I am going. The few perfumes I have worn more than 2-3 times each this year have been Angel Muse, Opus III, Osmanthe Yunnan, Santal de Mysore, Sycomore, Jicky, al02, and Botrytis. I probably don’t need any more perfume, hey 🙂

Oh Claire!!!! I really would love to try some attars and learn more about them. I dunno if they would suit me or not, but I am really interested. I recently received a half bottle of Opus III from a dear friend who felt someone else needed to love it. I do. 🙂 And as I mentioned above I want a bottle of Osmanthe Yunnan, the travel size is not enough. I could drink the stuff. Sigh. Lovely to see you. Hugs and bussis. xxxxxxxx

  10. Hamamelis says:

Great post! I’ve worn a lot of Mona di Orio this year. Eau Absolue, Rose Etoile and Vanille. I find them so nuanced and surprising. Really really good. Probably my greatest love and discovery is Andy Tauer’s Une Rose Chypree. Gorgeous from top to bottom.
I do love my Chanels (quite a few, and vintage 5 and 19), and the Hermeses (will try the Muguet in the cold!), and, my old faithfuls Heure Exquise and Chamade Extrait.

    • cookie queen says:

Hi Hamamelis! I got half a bottle of vintage Chanel N°19 last month. My gosh, such divine stuff, I have never smelt such a rich green thick vetiver. Stunning. I would like to own Chamade Extrait, Nad yeah, I like the MdO´s too, and have an old bottle of the Vanille, time to crack that out. As ever, great to see you Thanks for dropping by. Bussis. Val xxxxx

  11. Hi Val. Great post as usual and I can’t believe you’ve been blogging for four years. You are great and have much experience as well. I like how you are faithful to your tastes. I am now trying a few Aroma M perfumes thanks to you and other bloggers. OK to be honest I sample a lot of perfumes and sometimes feel I don’t really wear perfume properly i.e. spritz and go and just get on with the day. I have been wearing a lot of Lune Feline from Atelier Des Ors that I really love and I’m very slack and have only got new sample vials so I will be sending you some this week. Sorry for the delay on that. When I go out on the town or to a dinner out (which to be honest is not frequently enough) I like to wear Anubis from Papillon or for anytime that I feel needs a celebration that is my go to. It makes me feel very good. I also wear Ambre Fetiche, Bombay Bling and I’ve bringing out Angel Muse again too. However I’m now getting a sample of Galup after your rave review. xx

Hi Megan 🙂 I dunno about a rave review, Two sentences? Hmmmm. Maybe that is rave from me! Hahahahahaha. Do give it a proper wearing please. I do believe after a night of no sleep and watching the US election crap I shall go have a big spritz of Muse, That´ll put the world to rights. Hugs. Val xxxxxxx

  12. Robert H. says:

Oh my god, you made me spit out my coffee from laughing!! YOU? NOT a BLOGGER??? Bitch please. It’s a wonder to me that you have any time to bake/bike since I imagine you thinking up marvelous words for blogging all the time! I am in awe. No, seriously!!

This year has been all about (big surprise we have many in common…) BdI extrait, Boy by Chanel, Voluptuous Nostalgia By Aroma M., Lilac Love by Amouage, and yes…the fabulous leather-bomb known as Galop. FINALLY a leather I can truly love! Of course with my ADHD in the driver’s seat, that list is likely to change by tomorrow. Xoxox

    • cookie queen says:

Hahahahahahaha! Don´t waste your coffee Robert. You just totally made my day, which otherwise would have been dominated by Herr Twump …. more laughing! you like Galop? That´s wonderful to hear, it´s such gorgeous stuff. Loads of love and hugs, Val xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  13. Lavanya says:

We have similar tastes methinks! So I just have to try Hermes Galop.
I’ve been wearing a LOT of Coromandel edt lately (finally bought a bottle while it was available), some Tolu parfum. Also Rozy voile – it is my ‘armor’ scent these days..Also Victoria Minya’s hedonist, Lalun Naturals Qajar Rose. Though when I say wear, I include ‘from samples/decants’..:) I lost my vintage Shalimar extrait around this time last year. I am trying to forget that happened..:)

    • cookie queen says:

Hi Lavanya! For what it´s worth if I had to chose, I prefer the current Shalimar Extrait to the vintage ….. Give it a try if you have the chance. Rozy is an armour scent for sure, makes me feel strong. I will eek my Coromandel EdT out, not sure about the EdP. Will have to try it again. I reckon you´ll love the Galop. Bussis. xxxxx

  14. Neva says:

Hi Val, since I’ve been following some perfume blogs for 2-3 years, to me you are a blogger FOREVER 🙂 I always enjoy your posts.
I appreciate your list and will try Galop d’Hermes asap because somehow I forget about it in the dayly rush. I am in a demanding period of my life right now.
Thanks to the 10 ml sizes and their availability in our market I wore a lot of Frederic Malle this year: Eau de Magnolia, Parfum de Therese, Lipstick Rose, Dans tes Bras and right now – Noir Epices. I really like them a lot.

    • cookie queen says:

Hey Neva! Thanks for the reminder. I have Eau de Magnolia and PdT …. I´ll wear them this week. Sometimes things get pushed to the back. Yep, the Galop is definitely worth a try or two or three! I wish more companies did 10 or 15 ml bottles of perfumes. Would be ideal. Nice to see you. 🙂 I wish you strength getting through the tough times ….. Hugs, Val xxxxx

  15. Anna Maria says:

Oh Val, I always enjoy your posts and was so happy to have met you in Vienna this year. I have a tiny bit of Misia sample you gave me as I mentioned I loved it, you’re the best xo
