Savoy Steam by Penhaligon`s 2017

Savoy Steam by Juliette Karagueuzoglou

Savoy Steam Penhaligon`s FragranticaFragrantica

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Bergamot, lemon, eucalyptus, mint, pink pepper, rosemary
Heart: Rose, geranium, cardamom, hedione, tea
Base: Benzoin, incense, vanilla, white musk

Sweet and fresh opening both rosey and sparkling citrus. It’s wet and dewy but manages to give the impression of the scent of fusing the glue used in iron on interfacing. Also the very specific scent of ironing high quality wool blend fabric. Lemony aldehydes, heat and humanity all hide quietly below the roses and I can truly smell the rosemary as if the potatoes have just come out of the oven.

Savoy Steam is wonderful, there’s so much to enjoy. The cardamom is REAL too, like a curry. Incense as if you have a box of Japanese incense sticks as yet unlit. I also get the particular smell of rice steam.

I get 3+ hours of fragrant from Savoy Steam and the dry down is cool incense and rice steam. Excellent.

Hmm, the smell of ironing wool. This sounded like a summer scent from the notes but that seems to be about cool days. I think it would be great to wear while snuggling in a blanket in front of the fireplace.

  3. I’d wear it to work – everyone would think my clothes were freshly ironed! Of couse they’d be wrong… i never buy clothes that need ironing because life is too short for ironing ; )

  4. Hi Portia,

Wow! It’s about time someone came up with a truly steamy scent! Great review! The references to ironing took me back to my teen years when I was in charge of ironing my school uniforms and the school uniforms of my six younger siblings! It was a major chore as the nuns were wrinkle phobic. Sometimes I sent the shirts out or had household help but most of the time I spent my Sunday afternoons making sure all the 35 cotton shirts were crisply pressed…a steamy experience for sure!

I imagine wearing Savoy Steam when ironing B’s shirts. While I protest I don’t like to iron I just can’t stop doing it once the ironing board is up. I follow by e-mail.

    • And yes I know the scent of the wool steam you refer to as the rest of the uniforms were a light weight, so called “all season” wool gabardine – a totally wrong fabric for children in Florida!

  5. This sounds like the perfect fresh clean fragrance to wear when hosting a dinner party – not overwhelming and a little bit foodie so as not to clash with the fragrant food! I follow via email & FB! Thanks for another great giveaway!

  9. I’m ‘desperately’ in Love with this scent, since reading a review by Ainslie. I also am ‘desperately’ in love with Penhaligon, esp re their packaging. The bottles are divine. Anyway, I’d ‘desperately’ love to smell this scent. I would wear this scent all through those lazy hazy Summer days, and would be perfectly suited if one were invited to a wedding set at sunset by an ocean.

  13. I follow with Bloglovin, and I would wear Savoy Steam on a cold day when I’d like a hot bath. My rosacea hates steam, and I haven’t had a hot bath (or even a truly hot shower) in years. An acquaintance of mine sent me a little Comme des Garçons and Grace Coddington Grace, and it smells as though I’ve just stepped out of a hot, steamy bath strewn with rose petals. I hadn’t realized until then that I wanted a perfume that smells like steam, but it turns out I very much do. This one sounds delightful. Thanks for the chance, and the review.

  15. Portia, you make this sound amazing. I’d wear this everywhere! But maybe especially to anywhere that’s really hot and humid. Boston in the summer. A rainforest. A spa. But good heavens, you really make me want to try it out.

I follow by email. Thanks for the draw!

  16. Hi, Portia

I follow it by email, and now also by facebook.

Smell of freshly ironed wool …? I suggest a particular use, domestic sometimes, intimate, but also how someone has said: it would be ideal to go to work, since “everyone who clothes is just glazed”.
