Hi APJ,

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 1 – 7 January 2018

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:

  1. Monsieur Chanel vintage
  2. Jacob Silences parfum
  3. Guerlain Chamade EdP (vintish)
  4. Diptyque Rose de Mai 2016
  5. Le Galion Sang Bleu

Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.

Last Weeks WINNER: Neva

Been wearing Guerlain Shalimar all day but decided I needed a night time change so Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess is getting a workout.
Woo HOO! I smell FAB U LOUS!
    Portia xx

  2. Hage Kay says:

This evening when I went for my run, I decided on a ‘different’ scent. It was Aromatics Elixir. I say ‘different’ because for exercise and workouts, I prefer the pink pepper and bright aldehydic scents, those that virtually sting the nostrils, not the sweet gourmand ones. Portia you would have smelt delicious as I read that Bronze Goddess is coconutty.

  3. Jackie b says:

Today I wore Backbone in a Bottle…Chanel no 19. Start the new year as you mean to continue!

  4. chez Marzipan says:

Don’t enter me in the draw as I have quite a few of the above mentioned from your sample pack. But I will be chiming in all week in my usual fashion 🙂

Today is Jour Ensoleile…it is below five degrees fahrenheit and I needed something warm and sunny. Last night I wore Champagne du Bois. Lately I am on an SSS kick, Laurie is a master.

  5. Annet Z says:

    Today I wore Lancome Hypnose.

  6. Despina Veneti says:

    Happy New Year to all!
I’m wearing Diva Eau De Toilette for New Year’s lunch, while last night it was Shalimar Eau De Parfum.

  7. Ramona says:

    Happy New Year!!
Today I’ve chose Hypnotic Poison by Dior.

  8. Diana says:

I wore Parfum Sacre on New Year’s Eve, – actually I saw Rouge d’Hermes in your Scent Diary post and went to get some of it but then I noticed Caron, and voila! I don’t think I can ever get enough of rose perfumes, a rose is not always a rose when it comes to fragrance.

This morning started with Tom Ford’s Jasmin Rouge. My sample’s drained and it’s a bit sad as I’ve quite liked this scent.

    • Saffyishere says:

Oh that glorious powdery rose of Parfum Sacre…. Diana you’d smell wonderful.
      Happy New Year.

      • Diana says:

Thank you! Happy New Year to you, as well!

I own 4 different reformulations of Parfum Sacre (one of them is a 3 ml bottle but still :)), it’s one of my favourite perfumes ever made. The one I wore was made in the early nineties, the richest of them all.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

O M G! What a fabulous trio of perfume you had. I love and have FBs of all three Diana.
      Portia xx

      • Diana says:

Thank you, Portia! It’s always nice to meet a “perfume twin” (I mean, at least in regards to these frags): I blind-buy almost which means I have to make my choice based on somebody else’s opinion, it’s actually easier to make up my mind when I know the tastes of this particular someone.

        I hope you’re having a nice week!

  9. AnnieA says:

Anais Anais as a bedtime scent.

  10. Gina says:

For New Year’s Eve, I started with Penhaligon’s Ostara and finished with Michael Jackson Mystique. I still smell like oakmoss and haven’t gotten out of bed yet.

  11. Ellen Covey says:

Happy New Year, Portia! I’m so impressed that you can keep this blog going year after year!
Ellen Covey recently posted…WINTER SALE EXTENDED TO DECEMBER 31My Profile

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Thanks Ellen,
      Great to see you beautiful.
Believe me when I say how surprised I am too.
      Happy New year.
      Portia xx

  12. crikey says:

Happiest of new years to you and yours, to APJ and all who sail in her.

Today was no. 19. It’s a scent I’ve struggled with a little: but this is the year when I will untangle it from its bad associations, and just enjoy its aloof gorgeousness.

  13. Maggiecat says:

I’m wearing the same scent today as I did yesterday – Dame Perfumery Earth Mother. I have a miserable head cold, and this beautiful scent is all I can stand right now ( but I’d probably be wearing it even if I weren’t sick because it’s GORGEOUS!

    • Jyotsna says:

Hope you’re feeling better. I love the description of all the DAMES. Was just about to buy the tuberose but decided to wait.

    • chez Marzipan says:

it really is gorgeous. I am partial to the hair oil version which I wear as perfume or all over body moisturizer.

  14. MMKinPA says:

Happy New Year !! Today’s perfume is SSS Champagne des bois- inspired by chocolate marzipan!

  15. Laura Keller says:

Happy New Year to everyone. I’m going to make a goal out of participating in this all week even if it’s just a short sentence with the name of the day’s scent. Too often on bad days I let this illness talk me into lurking here and elsewhere. So 2018, time for something new. Except perfumewise: Vintage No 22 parfum and edt for last night. Today vtg Chant d’Aromes extrait & edt, which I’m going to wear until it fades all the way – soon) at which time the night belongs to Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’s masterpiece Mata Hari.

  16. Jyotsna says:

Happy New Year, friends! Wish you the very best for 2018.
Today it’s an old friend- a couple of sprays of anais anais edt.
    Everyone is smelling splendid.

  17. Saffyishere says:

Yesterday I got myself in a funk and wore nothing.
This morning I’ve woken a new woman… smiling ,happy and determined to have fun.
So I’m wearing Circus by Poppy Moroni.

  18. Anna Maria says:

SJP Stash and O de Lancome, weird but nice!

  19. australianperfumejunkies says:

Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Cologne last night.
This morning: I put on something but can’t remember and this afternoon Mugler Kryptomint.
    Smells outrageously good
    Portia xx

  20. Saffyishere says:

The circus didn’t last ,and whilst cleaning I found my sample of Gentry Jockey Club…..a weird little number….wouldn’t buy a bottle.

  21. Fazal says:

I wore Givenchy Insense vintage for the first time. I think those who cannot afford vintage Insense due to its high prices can go for much cheaper substitute in Vermeil Pour Homme.

  22. Paul Mills says:

Beckam beyond today thought it was sweet and pineapple at the start a little cedrat boise to begin…

  23. SonomaVelvet says:

Browsing in the perfume store today so I have a little of quite a few all over me. Hermes Pamplemuse rose, and Twilly and Rubarbe eclarte, a little of Stella’s new Peony, the new Tory Burch blue bottle and some Gucci Bloom over remnants of SSS Nostalgie that I had on from last night. I actually quite like the Pamplemuse rose and the Rhubarb…. got samples and well I really like the Nostalgie.

  24. Annet Z says:

I’m wearing Boudoir by Vivienne Westwood today. It’s a New Year’s scent for me, probably because of the spicy notes in it.

  25. Mariann says:

Happy New Year Portia and everyone!
Wore Eau de Merveilles yesterday and it was perfect for my slightly hungover self and a gentle but great smelling start to the new year. Wood Sage and Sea Salt to start off this morning.

  26. chez Marzipan says:

Starting the day in SSS Sienna Musk…spices and musk…mmmm. Will top it off later with something else but not quite sure what just yet.

    • Despina Veneti says:

It sounds heavenly, I’ve always wanted to try it!

      • chez Marzipan says:

Sadly this is one of her discontinued scents. I have less than 1ml left but luckily a little goes a long way as they are pure perfume strength.

    • chez Marzipan says:

Topped myself off with Alexander Julian’s Womanswear..the decant is gone. Wore this one a lot in the mid 1990s and I don’t remember it being the powder bomb that it is in me right now.

  27. Sue Mills says:

Hello and Happy New Year to all.
I haven’t worn anything yet this year! My 10-year-old has some kind of cold virus so I haven’t wanted to make her symptoms worse. But tomorrow should be fine to spritz away … hmm, what to wear? Going to the beach for my daughter’s safe swimming programme, and it’s only going to be about 23C. Will have to think about it for tomorrow.

    • Jyotsna says:

Sue- oh poor kiddo. Hope she’s better soon. My son’s school did the safe swim program in December. He loved it. i think it’s going to be about 24 here, as well. But nasty, nasty high 30s over the weekend.

      • Saffyishere says:

You might even see low 40s in Radelaide. Hope your child is better soon… not much fun being sick during school holidays.
Bronze goddess is a great beach scent.

      • Sue Mills says:

Thanks, Jyotsna and Saffysihere, I appreciate your thoughts. She has developed a full-on ear and throat infection and the antibiotics don’t seem to be doing a lot, so might be back to the doctor on Monday.
Saffyishere, Bronze Goddess has been on my radar for so long … I must get some for the summer. And yes, we had a very hot day today but the change has come through, so we’re much more comfy. Pretty hot in Melbourne, too, I see, and Sydney’s set for a big one tomorrow.

  28. Despina Veneti says:

Woke up rather tired, so Clarins Eau Dynamisante is just perfect for a little extra energy.
I love coming back and reading everybody’s updates 🙂

    • Kate Apted says:

I so need the three Clains scents. I love the bottles, the colours and the scents. They travel well, are universally liked and just a pleasure to spray. Nice choice!

      • Sue Mills says:

Well said, Kate. I have some of the Clarins and had forgotten about them for summer! Whoops …

  29. Jyotsna says:

Lush bathbomb tgis evening- Guardians of the Forest, I think. A vibrant green. Yummilicious.

  30. Ashleigh says:

    Happy New Year Friends!
I am lucky to have the new and middle eastern exclusive,
    SANTAL NOIR by Christian Dior.
I can’t even find the notes in it anywhere but I’m guessing rose and sandalwood so far. It’s seriously delicious, I’ve worn it 2 days running

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

O M G! So freaking jealous Ashleigh. Can’t wait to get to Paris in April to try them all.
      Portia xx

  31. AnnieA says:

Eek! Back to work. Arming myself in Ivoire edp cos nothing can go wrong then.

  32. Diana says:

Angel eau de parfum but I’m craving for something else already!

    • Kate Apted says:

Angel is like that for me! After an hour, it is enough. I find myself seeking out a new smell. It is intense; like red cordial. A little is fun and brain achingly psychedelic, but too much is coma inducing.

      • Diana says:

Kate, I love the initial opening, – the pine notes, the strong patchouli wave. After that, Angel pretends to behave although I don’t really want him to 🙂 Refreshing it would be a solution but I’m not sure the people around me would appreciate it.

  33. VerbenaLuvvr says:

today it is Jo Malone Nutmeg & Ginger, I smell like delicious baked goods! 🙂

    • chez Marzipan says:

Oh that is a good one. It has been discontinued so if you love it hold tight. The Ginger Biscuit is also quite lovely…very sweet and delicious as well.

  34. Kate Apted says:

Pulling out a complicated gearbox from a DAF today. Needing some hand holding, so Rococo by Teone. Right now, though, pre shower is Queen by the said Latifah. Doesn’t go well with coffee.

Yesterday was a diva day. Tubereuse Trianon by Le Jardin Retrouve, then Fendi’s Palazzo, then gym in YSL’s Cinema and Teone’s Sylvana to bed.

How do you all cope with shifting tastes? My choices a year ago are vastly different to now. Other than being expensive to go with my flow, it gets annoying. I MUST be as moody as my mother declares! As I choose based on my needs, I see, on paper, that I am all over the place. Who am I going to be this year?! It is kind of exciting to see where I’ll head off too, but one thing is certain, Guerlain, Teone and Hermes are here to stay.

    • Saffyishere says:

Adore Cinema in Winter to keep me cosy. I’m not sure it would be good on me in Summer, or doing exercise.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hey Kate,
QUEEN LATIFAH is amazing. I love Queen and Queen of Hearts from her.
Changing tastes? Buy decants. Who needs 50ml of ANYTHING really?
      Portia xx

    • Sue Mills says:

Kate, what do you use to remove one scent before adding another? Or do you just layer them as you go?
I think that a lot of us will find it interesting to see where you go this year!

  35. crikey says:

Mitsouko, today, and a perfume unicorn is on the horizon: there are maybe just two more wears left in this bottle.

  36. Tiffanie says:

I thought this would be Eau des Merveilles day, but my hand reached for Geisha Vanilla Hinoki. Hello, old fragrance friend, haven’t seen you since October. Refreshing and relaxing at once.

  37. Saffyishere says:

Isn’t it ‘fun’ when in your mind you think you’ll wear a particular scent… yet your hand mysteriously picks up something entirely different? Happens to me at least once a week. Even though it is nearly 10am here I’ve not sprayed anything yet. I’m wearing the remnants of last night’s Green Tea Camellia mixed with L’Occitaine’s Cherry Blossom.
I’m planning on beginning the ‘tidy up/ decluttering’ of my spare bedroom today { a nightmare}so will shower at approx. 2pm today lol
Dining out tonight with a good friend atm thinking I might wear Diva.

    • Melanie says:

Good luck with your decluttering today Saffyishere – its a great feeling when its all done and tidy. Diva sounds perfect – have a great night. PS – thanks for offer of decant of M7 Oud – i had already ordered some so will let you know what i think xo

    • Diana says:

Diva is such a beautiful scent, I need to reach out for it more often! Thanks for reminding me 🙂

Have a great evening with your friend!

  38. Melanie says:

Holidays over – back to the office today! Luckily to spur me on some little samples arrived in my letterbox yesterday so today, out of my Annick Goutal sample pack is Ambre Fetiche.
it reminds me of a recent Serge Lutens scent i’ve tried – its probably more of a winter scent but its warm, toasty, and very smooth. I think its the frankincense in it that i like. Have Myrrh Ardente and Encens Flamboyant to try also.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

Ambre Fetiche! Every time I read that name I think of one of APJs writers Dionne who introduced me to it, resulting in a full bottle purchase and grand love Melanie.
      Portia xx

  39. Despina Veneti says:

In a unisex mood this evening, wearing Pour Un Homme by Caron.
My companion always wonders why his perfumes end so fast 🙂

  40. SunnyDay says:

Today I wore Iris Poudre. It’s one of my favourites, but today I just wasn’t feeling it. Après work I needed to chill in VC&A Bois d’Iris.

  41. SonomaVelvet says:

A friend of mine cleaned out her spare room and came over and donated a whole fist full of samples. I’m wearing Tom Ford Noir right now… I think I must misremember what I thought it smelled like before because it seemed like straight up Frankinsense when I tried it previously and now it smells quite a bit different. Makes me wonder if there are a bunch of TF noirs out there, noir for her, or noir de noir on top of noir or something. I don’t know if I’m tired or what cause right now I just can’t be bothered to track them all down and figure out what is what… I’m just smelling it and thinking mmm, nice, don’t need.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hey Sonoma Velvet.,
Yes, there are a bunch of the Noirs. You may be sniffing something quite different.
      Portia xx

  42. Laura Keller says:

My day started out with Madame Rochas which has now morphed into Desprez Sheherazade enhanced with dabs of MFK Absolue Pour le Soir and a finishing mist of SL La Myrrhe. It sounds wacky but actually smells pretty wonderful; both comforting and a little feral at the same time. =)

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

O M G! That is a whole perfume store on you at once. I bow dow in deference to your nuclear sillage Laura.
      Portia xx

  43. Annet Z says:

Parfum de Sévigné No.2 for today’s cloudy day.

  44. chez Marzipan says:

SSS Lieu de Reves…if this perfume were a color it would be lavender. Happy Hump Day, folks! (that is what we call Wednesday in the States 🙂 )

  45. Melanie says:

Had some more treats arrive in the letter box so lots of stuff going on here! Long post alert!!
Tried Montale Moon Aoud and Steam Aoud as soon as i opened my parcel in the car – i have no patience when it comes to scent parcels! Very strange stuff, both of them. Initial thoughts were yuk on both. For the 20 minute drive from post office to home i still didnt like them. Moon aoud reminded me of a cleaning product and Steam was like an oily smell or an unscented massage oil
    – very non-descript. And i didnt get any oud. Strangely enough, after i got home i did want you are not supposed to do and i rubbed them together and then on one hand i got ‘steam’ – exactly like you had your head over the iron! Really weird scents – will give them another go but i’m not in a rush to do so. I did think Moon aoud might make a nice base to add something on top but then thought, Moon aoud is bit expensive (for me) to wear as a base and then spray something on top.

So this morning meant i had numerous samples to pick from – was going to return to S Lutens Safran Troublant – i do adore the clove in this but as today is going to be a bit warm i wasnt sure if that was the right choice so i went for Juliette has a gun Lady Vengeance – which i thought would be something totally different! was expecting something loud and fierce but its very soft – i can just get some rose but i have to sniff my arm really hard! was hoping for something a bit stronger as office is quite low on people today. will continue to apply for rest of day!
other treats in my delivery where some more Le Labo 33, Mancera Roses Vanille and some Slutens Louvre and Bal a Versailles to try out.
Portia – while fluffing around in the bathroom this morning i came across something i forgot i had – when you next in Melbourne look up L’Ascari. a little small batch perfume place. i have their solid cologne – blend 158 and had another scent which i adored, but dropped getting it out of my bag one day in the shops. looks like they have expanded to hand lotions etc – worth a look me thinks.

  46. MMKinPA says:

So cold today school was delayed by two hours. Although the temp only changed by a couple of degrees so I’m not sure why they bother. I live in a walking district so perhaps they feel like a few degrees warmer is safer.

Today I grabbed modern muse le rouge. Not my usual style, but I was in a hurry and I don’t think I have ever tried it- and the mini is cute.

  47. VerbenaLuvvr says:

It is a cold, cold day here. I dragged out my summer citrus scents to cheer me up and went with D&G Light Blue Intense. And it worked!

  48. Despina Veneti says:

Tonight’s bedtime scent will be Fath de Fath – sweet dreams to all!

  49. Annet Z says:

Narciso Rodriguez For Her Eau De Parfum for today.

  50. Diana says:

Chanel Eau Premiere, light as a feather!

    • Kate Apted says:

New one, Diana? I am keen to get a bottle, but it seems to be gone in an hour on my skin. I may just get the edt. I am a hard core parfum gal and I have been persuaded by L’Eau to explore the No 5 line up.

  51. chez Marzipan says:

Everything is closed today (no work for me) due to extraordinarily cold temps, high winds and a forecast for snow. Tomorrow and the day after the morning temps will be in the below 7 to below 12 degrees fahrenheit…brrrr!!!! Sonoma Scent Studio Winter Woods for me today.

Yesterday at work I lavishly splashed on 1000 Flowers Reglisse Noire (and finished my mini bottle). This is such a stunning scent and I wonder why it has flown under the radar. Does anyone else here like it? It was the fragrance that made me realize I do like licorice notes.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hey CM,
I love Reglisse Noire and have gone through 15mls here too.
      YUMMY!
      Portia xx

      • chez Marzipan says:

This is now the fifth and last 15ml I have finished. I don’t think the perfumer (Jessica September Buchanan) makes them in that size anymore. I am saving all of my empty minis because I might just use them as ornaments for the tree next Christmas.

  52. MMKinPA says:

It’s color perfume week at NST so today I grabbed my sample of Tauer Orange Star. Not my favorite Tauer but I have samples of all of them so there is some stiff competition. At least I know it will last the day!

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

What a sensational idea, Colour Perfume!
They do great stuff at NST. Always worth a drop in.
      Portia xx

  53. crikey says:

    Bottega Veneta today, Coromandel yesterday.

I’ve really been in the mood for something loud and weird and spiky, but, I don’t think my work colleagues would agree with me on that at the moment. And Coromandel is about as far from spiky as you get, with that rolling smooth, polished patch-de-luxe. Oh well. It’s never a chore to wear that.

  54. SonomaVelvet says:

Le Labo fleurs de oranger on one wrist from the sample windfall I got a couple of days ago… mm this is very nice darn it. I just sprung for Lys 41 earlier this year and it was so expensive I really don’t want to fall in love with another. I’m telling myself I certainly have many orange blossoms and don’t need another. But it does smell very very nice….

    • SonomaVelvet says:

how bad is this… I’m replying to myself. It’s just that I figured it out. This perfume was reminding of something and I figured it out. It’s funny that Lutens’ fleurs de citronnier has a kind of sharpness to it that’s quite similar to what I’m getting from the Le Labo. This smells a lot like I’ve spritzed some Jo Malone OB with some of the Lutens and presto.

      • australianperfumejunkies says:

HA! Replying to yourself to add clarity or extra insights is very cool. Don’t sweat it SonomaVelvet.
        Portia xx

  55. Melanie says:

Zadig & Voltaire This is Her today. It’s going to be really hot here today so need something light and happy.

    • Jyotsna says:

Melanie- do you like it? I’ve heard good things about it and it’s on my wishlist.

      • Melanie says:

Jyotsna – I do enjoy this one. On me it’s quite light, bit fruity, bit musky. I usually put stacks on and find it lasts quite well. Not super pricey. Usually get a compliment when wearing it. Am waiting to try some of their For Him.

  56. Laura Keller says:

Blizzard conditions today have me trapped in this fairly small apartment with two large, bored, bearded, untidy toddlers – DH and Dear Oldest Son – and what seems to be the actual flu. I love winter appropriate perfumes probably above all others, but I really needed a scent that would give me some cheer while putting some Spring light in sight at the end of my tunnel. So the morning was pretty, pleasant Shiseido Hyacinth perfume circa @1975, and now I’m wearing the heart-breakingly beautiful Sonoma Scent Lieu de Reves. I have very few regrets in life, but being so short-sighted as to have only bought one bottle of Lieu is one.
    I hope you’re all having a great week. =)

    • Melanie says:

Laura – i’ll swap you some sun for some snow 🙂

      • Laura Keller says:

Thanks but I’m a winter person, I can’t stand heat or humidity and have a familial form of albinism that means most of my sunlight is taken under an umbrella with super high spf and long sleeves in the morning. I wish I could share some of our snow with younthough – we have so much and it looks so lovely at night from inside a warm home. I don’t think my shipping skills would be up to getting it to you intact somehow, parafilm and teflon tape not withstanding. 😛

      • chez Marzipan says:

I will gladly send you snow in exchange for warmer weather.

    • chez Marzipan says:

LdR is gorgeous and I don’t know why Laurie discontinued it. I wore it earlier this week. She brought it back briefly by making a small batch of it but now I think it is once again off the website.

      • Laura Keller says:

Yes I got some of the small batch, having no real understanding of how much I would love it. The first sniff was all I needed to know, and I sure do wish I would have bought more. I’ve learned a valuable lesson, when Laurie makes something that makes my heart sing I buy several.

  57. Saffyishere says:

I slept badly last night, and as a consequence I have an awful headache. So after drinking lots of water to help hydrate and a cup of ginger tea, I’m beginning to feel better, which means I’ll be able to cope with work better.
    Where do you live, Laura?
It is quite warm here in Ballarat today, so I’m wearing Equinox Bloom.

    • Laura Keller says:

I hope your headache is long gone now. I have trouble staying hydrated due to some major GI rearrangement in 2007 and generally being forgetful of drinking during the day so I often get my reminder from the dreaded dehydration headache. Ginger tea and once in a while sugar free ginger ale help with those.
I live in Philadelphia PA, where a blizzard these days is generally some massive matter of 5 or 6 inches that causes the entire city to clear all grocery shelves – right after wiping out the liquor stores. As a kid we did have some serious snows but now it’s just silliness.

  58. Jyotsna says:

This has been a very busy week. Quite unlike the last few weeks of December.
Took our son to see Paddington 2; hilarious and brilliant movie. Recommened!
I am wearing Chanel No 19 (thank you, Portia) which is the only chanel I like.

    • Saffyishere says:

      Have you tried Cristelle?

      • Jyotsna says:

        Saffiyishere- No I haven’t! Chanel 19 is the only one. I fon’t like no 5. (Sorry I know it’s a classic but…)

Which Cristalle do you recommend- the EdT (which might be impossible to find) or the EdP?

Victoria Minya seems to like both- “While the Eau de Toilette is austere and mysterious, as befitting a chypre, The Eau de Parfum is sweeter and richer.”

Othes are quite divided. Robin from nst.
        Thanks for the recommendation. x

      Welcome Jyotsna.
You’ve picked an excellent CHANEL to love. I do too.
Bit of a CHANEL ho here though.
      Portia xx

      • Kate Apted says:

Jyotsna, give L’Eau No 5 a spritz. It is like No 5 but different enough to warrant its own name, and not be a flanker. Cristalle in edp is smoother than the edt. The edt has an icy edge to it. Can be got overseas if you know if anyone stopping off at an airport in Asia or the US.

I am wearing Nina Ricci Premier Jour – very soft floral perfume.

  60. chez Marzipan says:

Spent the entire day indoors yesterday during a blizzard binging on Luther (I have finished the series) eating, drinking tea and knitting. Today I must brave the cold to clear my driveway (no fun as the wind chill factor makes it almost unbearable) and I will be wafting in Jo Malone Orange Bitters paired with Dame Black Flower Mexican Vanilla.

    Happy Friday all!

    • Saffyishere says:

Please be careful doing your snow removal, and keep warm.

      • chez Marzipan says:

thank you! the hubs and I are doing it in spurts…15 minutes out, a few minutes in for some tea and then out again. I am in now for the third time and will be heading out once the tea is done.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

How ridiculously fabulous was Luther CM?
Can’t believe they made so few eps.
      Portia xx

      • chez Marzipan says:

LOVED Luther…and yes, they should have made MANY more episodes. Now I will have to find something new to watch.

      • Jyotsna says:

omg Luther is fabulous. Idris Elba, to die for. But Ruth Wilson was just out of this world. I have the book(s?) on my wishlist. Might just read it this weekend. I have the looongest wishlist- thanks to Val’s post the other day plus some other cool recommendations from friends! 2018 is going to be awesome!

    • cassieflower says:

You must live in the eastern US, CM? Seen it on the news. Brrrrr, definitely thermals weather. And of course you’ll need a warm fragrance cloud to protect you from that bitter wind.

      • chez Marzipan says:

yes I am on the eastern coast…the weather had been particularly brutal…and i hate being cold (which I always am) so it is hard for me.

  61. Despina Veneti says:

I tried the sample of Nuit et Confidences by Annick Goutal sent to me a few days ago, but I was just not that impressed (overpoweringly sweet, at least for my taste).
    I ended up wearing Chamade.
    Always a good idea!

    • chez Marzipan says:

I prefer the older and discontinued Goutals myself.

Chamade is extraordinarily beautiful. I have a 1ml extrait vintage sample in a box that my best friend gave me. I savor it and quite often just pop open the vial to sniff. Hubby says I look a bit like an unsavory character when I do that 🙂 Well, if I have to be addicted to something it might as well be perfume!

  62. cassieflower says:

I am sneaking in at the end of the week as I was away for New Year and am just catching up now really. It’s actually great to be back at work to give me some structure! I tend to go a bit haywire when left to my own devices, haha. Anyway, today I’m wearing D&G The One Essence. I really like it, but for some reason it doesn’t have quite the same projection on me as the regular One. And it was way more expensive. All the same, it is lovely, and I haven’t given it a whirl in ages. In other news, my backup bottle of vintage Miss Dior parfum is on its way to me. Thought I needed another one, and got in there before Portia buys it all up.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

HA! You are SO right. There’s a whole shoe box drawer here dedicated to Miss Dior EdC, EdT and Parfum. Lucky you to get even one.
      Portia xx

  63. Tiffanie says:

Hello fragrant folks, this week has flown by and I’m grateful it’s Friday/Saturday depending on where in the world you are now. 😀

I’m wearing Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum today. The weather here is mild, cool, cloudy with some sun. Terracotta slows down and does a beautiful slow dance without the summer heat. Must wear this more in the coming months.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      YUM Tiffanie,
You smell;l fabulous. I need to get my Terracotta out and give it some wears this summer.
      Portia xx

  64. Jyotsna says:

We’re celebrating the Orthodox Christmas Eve today at home. We have an Ukranian family/guest. I’m all geared up in christmas finery and Charlatan. Ready to cook up a feast!
Hoping for reprieve from the ugly weather for those of us facing extreme cold or extreme heat. Keep safe.

  65. Laura Keller says:

I felt like something dramatic, elegant and a bit sexy so it’s Krizia Teatro Alla Scala parfum on the pulse points with a misting of edp sprayed over all to be sure the neighbors can enjoy too. It’s just the thing for a glamorous afternoon of light housework and cleaning the cat box. I hate not being able to work but one plus is that I can wear things in my own home that would be wildly inappropriate out in the real world for most occasions. I am sure that my late night live PD watching bedtime scent will have to be vintage Shalimar extrait.

  66. MMKinPA says:

This morning I sampled By Kilian Woman in Gold. Smells like Tocade! Then I pulled out my new sample of Blackbird by Olympic Orchids. Jammy blackberry with fir and cedar underneath, and it lasts for hours. School was canceled today due to temperatures and wind chill factor!

  67. SonomaVelvet says:

Today was further explorations from my friend’s sample gift. I didn’t even know Kielh’s did perfume and I actually don’t think they do any more but apparently for a while they did. And they made one called Vanilla and sandalwood and it’s really quite good. Really. Quite yummy. Just a fleeting pleasure I’m afraid because no more can it be purchased. Ah well.

  68. Annet Z says:

I have chosen Miss Dior Eau De Parfum for today’s snow day.

  69. Kate Apted says:

I don’t know why, but began the day in Bvlgari’s Pour Femme. Gorgeous scent, but not on a 43oC day. I found some Goutal’s Eau d’Hadrien at DJs on my sniffathon. Tried it. Nice. But gone in 15 min. I then found J’Adore in my hand bag and used that. WHY?! I need to pass that decant on. I never like it and it actually makes me feel nauseous. I think I put it in my bag to give to a lady at work. She will like it.

I am not sure what to wear. I received a bottle of L’Eau the Sat before Xmas. I’ve used a LOT of it. Trying to understand it. It alludes me. Doesn’t matter how much I apply, the result is the same. Barely there projection and gone in one hour. BUT it is a stunning scent. I might try that.

Or, as it is nearly bed time, I might just wear something by Teone. She rocks me to sleep every night now. Maybe Moonlight or Bodhi…

  70. Kate Apted says:

Oooooooh! I nearly forgot… I am not buying much these days, but I found a L’Occitane bath oil for $20 today. Almost half price. I grabbed it. Pretty darn good! Bergamot is the star, yet it doesn’t over power the other notes. Fresh, comforting and not oily on the skin.

Reminds me…I need to get Baux by L’Occitane.

  71. chez Marzipan says:

Another ridiculously cold day but I will be wafting of sweet creamy sandalwood and lavender in Wood Infusion…Portia, it arrived!!!!! Came in the post last night and I wore it to bed. My skin amps up the sweetness but it is subtle and glorious. I will wear it today but then put it to the side to see how it does in the spring and then the summer. I think this would be a fantastic summer fragrance.

  72. Sue Mills says:

Hot, hot, hot here in Adelaide, and I didn’t put on anything until tonight after the cool change, and of all things, I tried Hypnotic Poison for the first time. I’m exploring vanilla as I usually find it too sweet, but this is OK for me, and I think I might really like it in winter, I hope.

  73. Diana says:

Wearing Chanel №5 today, eau de toilette plus some body cream. The latter is marvellous, its citrusy part is sooo good! I wish I could find a liquid №5 version with the same accent on the top notes!.

  74. crikey says:

Charlatan. Thank you, Portia, for sending this generous sample around the globe for me. The sweet fruitiness is not something I would have thought to try, but I’ve been enjoying it. The juiciness of the pear is astonishing, rising up out the vanilla-florals. (also, himself loves it, and I think he might steal it for himself. He’s told me three times today how good I smell, and started waxing lyrical about working in a wood shop. Not seeing the connection, but, hey. He’s happy!)

Yesterday, Cuir Cannage. Which I am liking more and more, but I wish it went about two layers *deeper*.

  75. MMKinPA says:

Olympic Orchids Mardi Gras today. Civet and orange blossom on my skin. The opening a little strong but I like the dry down. Just starting to explore OO and I’m super impressed. Plus I really like supporting indie perfumers!

  76. Laura Keller says:

Today’s been all about lovely florals. I wore Sonoma Scent’s gorgeous Nostalgie during the sunlight hours. Now I’m powdered and perfumed with vintage Estee for bedtime. Yum.

  77. Sue Mills says:

Crikey, thanks for reminding me … thank you, Portia, for my sample of Charlatan, which arrived on Friday. I will come back with my thoughts on this one, it’s made an impression.
Nothing on today, cleaning out my daughter’s room … whatever I had on would have sweated off!

  78. Annet Z says:

Today is celebrating Christmas in my country. And I chose the Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche for this day-it will remind me of the pleasant moments in the future.

  79. SonomaVelvet says:

I felt quite unwell yesterday and didn’t wear anything and was a bit trepidatious today. I hate to unwittingly link a perfume to feeling unwell. Feeling much better today and Hermes Rose Ikebana seemed just the thing to gently waft around me. Funny, I don’t wear this terribly often but it always seems to be on a Sunday when I do. Interesting. to me anyway haha
