SOTD 8 – 14 January 2018

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 8 – 14 January 2018

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:

  1. Parfums DelRae Amoureuse
  2. Starck Peau d’Ailleurs
  3. La Via del Profumo Mecca Balsam
  4. Bulgari Lilaia
  5. Cult of Scent the Nightingales Cup

Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, will draw on Sunday.

  1. australianperfumejunkies says:

Currently I am wearing full day out sweaty old fat guy and Le Labo Jasmine 17.
    They kind of work together.
    Portia xx

    • Jesse P Lewis says:

      Jasmine makes everything smell better

    • Cassieflower says:

Don’t be too hard on yourself, the temps there are ferocious and your body is doing exactly what it was designed to do😉 You are in good working order so spray lavishly and celebrate that fact. And you can send some heat my way cos it’s bloody freezing here.

  2. Jesse Lewis says:

Went on an island today and wore YSL Kouros. I can’t think of another fragrance that makes me feel so confident. Massive complexity, but also such a distinctive character.

For the evening, the last of my sample of Bvlgari Mon Jasmine Noir. Warm, summery jasmine underpinned by some soft vanilla and almond notes. Easy to wear.

  3. chez Marzipan says:

Under the weather today (too much snow shoveling) so keeping it simple with my homemade body oil of lavender and sandalwood e.o.s.

    • Saffyishere says:

Can the ‘younger’ Marzipans not do the snow shovelling for you? That combo would be awesome.

      • chez Marzipan says:

Oh but they do! We have a very long driveway and a deck and a front porch all of which require shoveling. I need to retire and move into a tiny apartment or else move to a warmer climate 🙂

  4. MMKinPA says:

Giving a full sampling to SSS Spiced Citrus Vetiver which I ordered along with my Bees Bliss. Blood orange, vetiver, Mysore sandalwood, spices. It’s one of her naturals and I only have a dabber so it’s wearing close but I like it a lot.

  5. Laura Keller says:

Wearing Krizia’s dramatic Oriental masterpiece Teatro Alla Scala extrait for an under the weather Monday. =)

  6. AnnieA says:

Cuir de Lancôme which has been oddly neglected for a while.

  7. Ceil says:

I pulled out all of my “almost gone” samples and decants and am going to wear them. Today I finished off a decant of Profumum Roma Confetto. 🙂

  8. shiva-Woman says:

I’m wearing Solstice Scents Night Star, brisk lemon opening darkening to a dirty patch.
    shiva-Woman recently posted…SOTD 8 – 14 January 2018My Profile

  9. Diana says:

Sel de Vetiver. It really is good, and if I had fewer items on my never-ending wishlist, I’d gladly pick up a bottle.

  10. Kandice says:

Wearing NV’s Bombay Bling today. Just got her discovery set from LuckyScent and am excited to try all six!

  11. VerbenaLuvvr says:

I am wearing Philosophy “Fresh Cream” today. I haven’t worn it in a while so I laid it on thick. Not quite Perfect Veil, but almost.

    • chez Marzipan says:

I like Fresh Cream and also love Sarah Horowitz Thran’s Perfect Veil. I am wondering if she still makes it. Off to research!

  12. Marie says:

I’m wearing Tiziana Terenzi Vele because the sales assistant insisted that I will like it. And I do. Nice green fig, fruity and with a summer vacation feeling that is a nice counterpart to the cold over here.

  13. Cassieflower says:

Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial. Yet another beauty that was discontinued. So many of my favourites seem to be unpopular. Maybe my wearing them is the kiss of death 🤔

  14. Anna Maria says:

Daisy Body lotion and the last of my Calvin Klein Reveal..trying to finish a few stray low bottles in my collection..a bit OCD oh well..

  15. crikey says:

Rolling through the ambers at the moment: last night, a little dab of Amber Sultan after all the Serge chat.

Some Guerlain Encens Mythique today for ambergris (though I have a sneaking suspicion that the ebay seller I acquired this half bottle from may have watered it down a little with a dose or three of perfumer’s alcohol, it’s still gorgeous).

Now home and bathed, into the Ambre Nuit. Because why shouldn’t I smell amazing while I read an utterly tedious journal article, in my jammies, and a great big scruffy shawl, and mismatched bed socks (oh, the glamore!).

  16. Fazal says:

My first time wearing of vintage Cartier Pasha. It, indeed, represents 80s-90s perfumery, with that particularly warm drydown reminiscent of gillette aftershave smell such as cool wave.

    • Kate Apted says:

Ohhhhhh! Glory be, Fazal! Can I swing by and sniff you? That is a gent scent indeed. Revel in your olfactory joy!

  17. Jyotsna says:

Aesop Marrakech Intense today. I smell like a gulab jamun.

  18. Saffyishere says:

On Monday morning I wore the last ml of a decant of Vol de Nuit…yummy.. I need a few more ml now. Monday afternoon/ evening I wore Loverdose by Diesel. Too sweet for me….I shall be handballing this to a friend

  19. Melanie says:

L’art Poivre Piquant for me today. All of my little sample! its a lovely scent but very soft – i cant smell it unless i sniff myself constantly which is perhaps not the best thing to be seen doing in the office! seems to be a trend of late for me where nothing seems to stick 🙁

    • Earl Gray says:

On the other hand, it’s precisely those sorts of scent that can deemed ‘office appropriate’, sigh. In which category, it’s a personal favourite! So snuggly. You could probably get away with a lunchtime re-spritz 😉

  20. SunnyDay says:

I need to start using up some samples before they evaporate, so this evening I am in Bois des Isles parfum.

  21. Hage Kay says:

I am so pleased with my Dear Rose Mentha Religiosa. It is a smoky sweet cigarette scent! And I like the heady smoky ones with spice on them. Since perfumes usually disappear from my dry skin quickly in a poof, the heady smoky ones leave a trace that help them last a little longer.

  22. Saffyishere says:

Tuesday morning….vintage Azuree…still gorgeous and humming along nicely after doing my volunteering ‘food is free’

  23. chez Marzipan says:

Still feeling out of sorts so keeping it simple with a homemade solid perfume of lavender essential oil (3ml) and beeswax (1/2 teaspoon melted in microwave). Will be staying home from work today as well and just taking it easy.

I am looking forward to reading what everyone else has been wearing 🙂

    • Cassieflower says:

The weather and all that shovelling has taken it out of you. Complete rest, even for a day, will perk you up. I found that a hot drink made with lemon, honey, cinnamon, grated ginger and cayenne pepper to be a good picker-upper.

      • chez Marzipan says:

Thank you for that recipe! I will try it once my stomach settles. Have been drinking lots of herbal teas both yesterday and today.

  24. Jackie b says:

Today was Chanel 19 on one arm and Poudre on the other, I like them both but the original dries down with more oakmoss and smells like salty skin. Or maybe it WAS salty sweaty skin…it is still lovely anyway!

  25. Cassieflower says:

Cartier l’Heure Convoitée today. It’s really old-school glamorous. Perfect for a grey and damp Tuesday hanging around the house doing laundry and hoovering and other exciting stuff😀
There’s one small thing about it that bugs me, and it’s intruding on my enjoyment of it. It’s reminding me of something or someone from the past. Every time I spray it a memory tries to break forth and then stops dead.

  26. MMKinPA says:

Today’s sample is Ralph Lauren Woman. Pretty, inoffensive, 2 sprays are already gone after 3 hours (which included a trip to urgent care for 3 staples in my son’s forehead – fell on an icy driveway walking to school.). Such a fun start to my day! As a reward I’m going to go spray some Ambre Precieux.

  27. VerbenaLuvvr says:

This morning I had no idea what to wear. It is supposed to snow today wear I live. I did a random grab and came up with FSSA Vaniglia del Madagascar, a divine gourmand vanilla with plenty of longevity.

  28. Kandice says:

Wearing NV’s Ashoka today. Day two of the Discovery Set. A very pretty fig.

  29. Melanie says:

Diors’ Dolce Vita for me today.

  30. Jyotsna says:

Blistering headache today. I might just settle for some lavendar eo and drink tea.
Hope everyone is having a fabulous day. xx

    • Saffyishere says:

Not good to read about, Jyotsna. The lavender is a good idea…on your temples.

      • Jyotsna says:

Thanks, Saffyishere- i did exactly that. Lavendar eo on temples and brewed up a pot of authentic masala chai (with some extra ginger). I think I’ll soak in some epsom saltys and burn some lemon myrtle in the diffuser.

Are you home yet from the FIFL? xx

  31. Saffyishere says:

G’day folks… hump day here again…..yes already… Anyway I’m going to doing some weed pulling soon at the food is free laneway, so I’m going to be bathed in insect repellent and fat lady ‘yuckiness’ until the job is done. Then I will showe and apply something scentsational.
p.s. If any of you are curious about the food is free laneway there is a Facebook page….go check it out lol

    • Jyotsna says:

Saffyishere- Just checked out the website & fb page. Food is Free Laneway is amazing. Good on ya! At least, it’s cool today. And no storms either. Heard the Central Coast was hit badly.
Tell us what you wear this evening.

Hope APJers here and in the snowy US are all okay. xx

    • Cassieflower says:

Had a look at what goes on there, what an amazing idea! Well done to everyone involved.

    • Kandice says:

Looked this up and what a wonderful idea! What a great example of love in action – for others, for the planet, and for the community. Kudos to everyone involved!

  32. Laura Keller says:

Balenciaga Michelle all day. Now DSH Foxy extrait with some edp to finish.

  33. chez Marzipan says:

happy Hump day! Sticking with another simple perfume today..a rose solid I made for the younger marzipan (she doesn’t mind when I steal some 🙂 ) Feeling much better and will be heading to work shortly.

    • Jyotsna says:

Happy hump day CM. Hope the snow is easing?
I’ve had a rest and recovery day. Now it’s time to climb into bed and sleep away the aches.

What rose oil do you use – what kind of roses?

      • chez Marzipan says:

Lately I am on the cheap so the rose I used is a 5 percent solution from NOW. In the past I have used various roses from Eden Botanicals. They are lovely but very costly.

Thankfully the weather has warmed up a bit!

    • MMKinPA says:

Glad you’re feeling better. I love hearing about all of your creations! (And still enjoying the one you sent me!)

      • chez Marzipan says:

Thank you. It’s a relief to be up and about again.

All the stuff is easy enough to make. I encourage anyone to experiment and have fun.

Glad that you are still enjoying it 🙂

  34. cassieflower says:

Donna Karan Gold. Lots of oomph.

    • cassieflower says:

      In reply to myself, haha.
Was just nosing around the pharmacy earlier while waiting on my prescription to be filled, and tried SJP Covet. OMG! how did this one slip by me until now? I’m going back after work to buy it. And it’s in on special price, too. It would be rude not to.

      • MMKinPA says:

I love Covet. It’s a love it or hate it perfume, I think, and it got significant hate 😳. I love it enough to have a backup bottle!

  35. crikey says:

A day of L’Orpheline (again, the Lutens thread pulled my hand towards that while dithering this morning). Possibly a little much for an early morning commute. Ahem. But, there’s a tipping level: under a certain amount and it vanishes in about two hours, above that, and it’s still hanging out at supper time.

Mitsouko again yesterday, and yep, it’s down to the hold-the-bottle-at-weird-angles to get a spritz level of almost drained.

Meanwhile, atkins is become more and more of a sockmonster. She’s now stealing them from drying racks and radiators, and digging through piles of laundry looking for more. Could be worse, at least it’s clean socks.

  36. Kandice says:

I’m taking a break from my NV Discovery Set today to wear Vanilla Bourbon Intense by DSH. I needed something warm and comforting today, and so far all the NV fragrances are wearing very light on me. In the cold weather here, the incense of this scent is just perfect.

  37. VerbenaLuvvr says:

Today it is Idyllwild. It just keeps calling me. Just such a great fragrance, and deserving of the best of the year accolades, IMHO!

  38. MMKinPA says:

Today’s sample is Trayee. I only have a tiny vial, it will definitely be drained!

  39. Melanie says:

My lovely collection of decants from scentsamples arrived so after sniffing about 8 fragrances last night I’ve settled on Nest Midnight Fleur. I know nothing about this one I mostly picked it because the bottle is so pretty!! Not quite sure how to describe it – bit smoky, bit woodsy, touch floral.

    • Jyotsna says:

Oh such fun! Can you share the names? I shall delight in them vicariously. I need to get samples, not fbs.

      • Melanie says:

hi Jyotsna, I’d love to share, long post alert waved!
        here’s what ‘we’ got…
YSL M7 Oud on Saffyishere’s wearing – deserves 2nd smell
Guerlain Vol de Nuit (classic) & Habit Rouge from Portia’s suggestions
Versace Pour Homme Oud – lovely oud, this is a stand out, I like it more than L’arts Al oudh
L’artisan Onde Sensuelle (don’t like this) Voleur de Roses (this is amazing – testing this now and it’s gorgeous)
        S.Lutens Santa’s Majuscule (yum)
        AGoutal Vanille Exquise
Oriflame Signature Heritage – blind pick that was worth it – big orange & pepper, really big at start but lovely finish
Zadig & Voltaire For Him – another standout, I nearly bought FB at Priceline’s this arvo but stopped myself in case I found another treeasure I love this bunch.
Then some I know and love
FMalle Musc Ravageur, LArt Vanille Absolument (I’m so in love with this discontinued treasure) Tom Ford Pour Femme & SLutens Un Bois Vanille.
I’ve gone a little crazy of late yet I can’t believe it took me so long to get on the decant/sample wagon. It’s a perfect way to try. Beats saving up for big bottles especially when there is so much to choose from.
Right now the L’art Voleur is winning hands down 🌹 xo

    • chez Marzipan says:

I love Midnight Fleur! My eldest won a full bottle of it years ago in a draw. The original bottle was black and opaque and weighs a ton. To me it smells of pineapple and cream and amber with a touch of floral.

  40. Laura Keller says:

Vintage Bois des Iles edc today; now No. 22 Exclusivs extrait with vintage edt sprayed on top. I am searching like a madwoman for a replacement for my recently finished vintage parfum. I feel guilty for being unsatisfied with this modern version of the parfum because DH gifted it to me knowing I was out last year during a scary hospitalization. I know there are much worse reformulations and no one wants to hear it, vintage is over rated, blah blah. I read reviews all the time from people who think the current parfum is as good or even better than vintage but for me it’s like processed cheese to aged cheddar or polyester when you’ve worn silk. I think No 22 is one of the ones that most rattles me because it was so precious when I was young {I wore it for my first wedding) and because the Exclusives version has quite a lot less of the aldehydes than the old stuff (hard to believe) and I absolutely love those ridiculous, bright aldehydes. The edt and edc are great though and I *am* happy to have any or all of them. =)

    • chez Marzipan says:

Nothing like vintage no 22…I wore it in the late 70s/early 80s. I don’t mind current formulation but vintage is way better 🙂

  41. Jyotsna says:

Parfum de maroc dabbed generously. I’m at home but need to get a lot of work done. This is perfect. Inspired yet understated.
I think we’re heating up again so trying to get as much done before mid-afternoon.

  42. SunnyDay says:

Indult Reve en Cuir. Elegant leather with cardamom, and it’s unisex.

  43. Jesse P Lewis says:

Marlou l’Animal Sauvage. Strikes a balance between animalic notes and soft, fluffy musks. One of my favourite scents currently

    • Kate Apted says:

Yay! You got it. I had a feeling you’d enjoy this. How do you find it in the heat? I assume it is a cooler weather one. I did use it at work last week and it collapsed around the oil and diesel. So, I guessed the heat and humidity would destroy it on me.

  44. Tiffanie says:

Thé Noir today, from a set of five Le Labo samples. This is the third one I’ve tried. Not loving any of them so far, they’re just ok for my nose. I’ve got Santal 33 and Vetiver 46 left to try. Hoping something clicks. 🙂

    • chez Marzipan says:

I sampled a few Le Labo as well and nothing clicked for me too…which kinda made me happy (money saved 🙂 )

    • Jyotsna says:

Tiffanie- Le Labo does not seem to like me at all; they just don’t excite. I tried a few a couple of years ago and never really wanted to re-try. I hope you find at least one that you enjoy- fingers crossed!

  45. Annet Z says:

It’s cold and snowy outside today and I decided to stay home with a good book. And I chose the body spray Sexiest Fantasies Va Va Voom Parfums de Coeur – it’s such a delicious sweetness ☺

  46. shiva-Woman says:

STC just arrived with my complete set of sizable Naomi Goodsir decants — I’m starting off with Bois d’Ascese, bitter-sweet woods and incense.
shiva-Woman recently posted…Ummagumma EdP by Bruno Fazzolari 2017My Profile

  47. chez Marzipan says:

I think I am going to finish out the week with essential oils. Today a body oil of vanilla bean, sandalwood and cardamom pods infused in said oil. I smell very sweet , woody and nutty (fits my personality 😉 )

    One more day until Friday!!!

  48. Cassieflower says:

Tauer Fruitchouli Flash. It’s quite well behaved so far. I haven’t had to tell it off yet😏

  49. Saffyishere says:

Melanie let me know if the YSL is any good after next wearing. Today Thursday , I’m simply wearing sorbolene and aloe vera cream due to sunburn….OUCHY… esp when I’m working. Home from work.. cool shower.. sorbolene cream again and a vey gentle spritz of Prada Vetiver, kindly gifted to me by Kate Apted.

  50. Diana says:

Still haven’t decided about SOTD but I wore Jicky yesterday. The newly arrived bottle, same age as me (almost 33), born in 1889. So old, and yet so fresh and timeless. I’m glad I didn’t believe all the scary reviews, it’s a real treasure.

    • Jyotsna says:

Ah Jicky! Glad you’re loving it.
Were the scary reviews about the sad reformulation vs the original?

      • Diana says:

Hey Jyotsna! I believe they were talking about newer reformulations, both EDP and EDT. I was going to order a current EDP initially but then this auction came up, and I won 🙂 Has newer Jicky disappointed you?

      • Kate Apted says:

The new ones are fine!! Yes, different, but given ALL the restrictions, changes in taste and access to ingredients, modern Jicky is still perfection. I defy anyone to find a replacement for my beloved Jicky edp MODERN formulation. The edp is smoother than the edt, but either will be my number one scent for all time.

      • Jyotsna says:

Oh no- Nener. The original were my mum’s. I like the newer ones too.
But I think the reviews would put people off. Sadface. Wear moar Jicky!

    • Saffyishere says:

Jicky.. my first bottle brought with my own money…first pay as a nurse actually… in 1987….Oh how I wish I had kept that bottle

  51. MMKinPA says:

Sample of Clive Christian 1872 woman. Another one that doesn’t feel like it matches its price IMO!

    • Diana says:

Yep. I guess it’s a matter of time before some perfume house with a ridiculously high pricetag makes a perfume named “Because we can” 🙂

      • Laura Keller says:

I’m still wondering how hard the maker of Peety was laughing when he cashed the checks for a niche that needs your urine to be complete. (Not intended to offend any fans, I know some people raved about it)

  52. Kandice says:

Wearing Mohur by NV today. I usually can’t wear rose fragrances. They give me a screaming headache, I think because they are just so concentrated. I like that this one smells like a real, living rose not a gigantic vat of roses. And the fact that her fragrances are wearing light on me is probably a plus in this instance. However I can already tell I may not be able to wear this one very long either. I think I may just have to give up on the rose fragrances instead of hoping one day to find one that doesn’t bother me.

  53. Melanie says:

Tom Ford Noir Pour femme today. I have a crush on this scent & I know it will break my heart! I’m gonna use my entire sample today and see how it fairs. I would have gone on to say I wish I didn’t like it because it’s (in my mind) too expensive for a bottle, but now I’m all over the decants I can just order little samples each time and keep my little crush alive 😍

    • Melanie says:

Well Tom, it’s seems my crush has floated off into the air like your perfume. I so badly wanted it to float around me all day but alas, after numerous reapplying no such luck.
Oh well, some you win and some you don’t…. whose next on my list 🤔

  54. Jyotsna says:

Teone Reinthal’s Antarctica (thank you, Portia) today to fight the 35C swelter. (Anything over 24C is a heatwave to me). I swear I can smell jasmine not the heady tuberose that I was expecting. Maybe my nose is confused. Still gorgeous. I

would wear this to an Indian function, dress up in a saree, apply kohl generously and smack on a bindi. Or just at home in my jammies.

  55. chez Marzipan says:

Keeping it simple on this Friday with patchouli oil…..LOVE this stuff…and I am not apologizing for wearing it 🙂

  56. Saffyishere says:

Friday Diva body lotion, mixed with aloe vera cream….on my sunburn….Then on my non sunburn parts…wrists/ arms.. Habanita.

  57. crikey says:

Coco today. And it’s hitting the spot nicely. (Though I’ve never tried the EDT. Any thoughts on that vs. the EDP?)

In other news, the sockmonster cat has escalated her thievery: yesterday she swiped a little bubble-wrap bag containing two boxed bottles of ink. From inside my bag. And then trotted the length of the flat, head up high, dangling this heavy treasure from her pointy wee teeth, singing and meowling.

One day i _will_ get a record of her shenanigans.

    • Kandice says:

I love Coco. It’s one of my go-to winter comfort perfumes. An excellent choice! And I’m sure it’s wafting beautifully as you chase said cat thief around your flat 🙂

      • crikey says:

I keep pleasantly being surprised by Coco. It’s a scent I mis-remember, and then don’t wear for ages. And I wafted it happily all over the bus, the train, the cold walk through the city, and into the office 🙂

(while the little beast got up to how knows what all day. Except, she would have been soundly chased by senior cat, between naps.)

  58. VerbenaLuvvr says:

This morning I closed my eyes and did a blind grab off the shelf, ended up with Chabaud Lait de Vanille. Dulce de leche goodness!

  59. MMKinPA says:

Sample of NV Pichola for the unseasonably warm morning (which will turn into cold and snow by tonight!). I really like this, I suspect sprayed it is even more fabulous.

    • Kandice says:

MMKinPa, I have noticed you are going through NV samples just as I am. Just FYI, LuckyScent has her Discovery Set for $55 for 6 samples (one of each scent) in 2 ml sprays. I compared prices before I ordered, and it’s a really good deal if you tend to buy more travel and sample sizes than FB’s. I am not having her samples fragrances work out so well for me. But if you love her perfumes and want to stay with the smaller sizes, you may want to check it out.

      • MMKinPA says:

Kandice I have been eyeing that set – it might make my buy list. I would almost rather have a travel size spray of one favorite scent, though.

  60. Kandice says:

I received some samples I ordered from Olympic Orchids in Seattle and am trying Cafe V today. Oh my! I really like this. A beautiful blend of tobacco, woods, and vanilla cream (plus other notes I’m not doing justice to). I have never tried any Olympic Orchids perfume before, and I am very impressed with this one. I have three more to try and can’t wait.

    • Melanie says:

Wow Kandice, that sounds delightful. I love it when I you/i try something new and you kind of go ‘wow! How did I not know about this! Looking forward to hearing about the other ones

    • MMKinPA says:

I got a sample of that too. To me it smelled very much like its inspiration, a coffee shop in Seattle… I smell the whole room.

  61. Kate Apted says:

Very mixed bag this week. I am trying to get my head around No 5 L’Eau. It is a conundrum. Worn it a bit to get familiar with it. It is like a cheeky dog – there but only comes to me. I cannot chase it to grab it. Always elusive. Anyone tried it? Thoughts on it?

  62. Melanie says:

Versace Oud noir today for me this morning. Can go bit louder as it’s a bit cooler today.
Did try AGoutal myrrh ardente but it’s really soft or faint waxy musk.

  63. Jyotsna says:

Another sinus headache and I couldn’t decide what to wear. So some gentle anais anaid edt.

  64. chez Marzipan says:

Right now I am commando as I am not sure what the day will bring (sleet and freezing rain mixed with snow which may require more shoveling). For now I am sniffing my vials of Sonoma Scent Studio perfumes, given the recent news that Laurie is closing shop and selling her stock. In my 47 years of perfume wearing she is probably my most favorite perfumer of all time. But I am not sad because her fragrances will live on in my memory and she is doing what she needs to do to make her life better. I applaud her for the direction she is taking and I know that her creative juices will find a home in another endeavor.

    Happy Saturday, all!

I’m a huge fan of her work too. There’s a special something in her perfumes that just hits that unknown spot with me. In fact, going to wear one of hers today. Hmmm which will I go for?

    • Kandice says:

Oh no! Where was this news posted? I don’t see it on the website, and she makes my favorite fig perfume. I will need to stock up quick!

    • MMKinPA says:

Very sad too. I have sampled most of her line and have many loves. I put in a request for a few things from her remaining stock but the email went out in the evening Pacific time and I didn’t see it until the next morning. If I don’t make the cut, I will hoard and treasure what I have and hope that the new owner keeps some of my favorites.

Dzing! by L’Artisan Parfumeur. I’m glad I finally blind-bought it last October. I still have about 40 ml left but I’m thinking of getting another 100 ml ASAP.

Layered Dame Black Flower Mexican Vanilla body cream with the edp. Cold here today and about 4 inches of new snow. On Thursday afternoon I left work without a jacket on – 60 degrees F. By last night it had dropped 40 degrees. If I was better at math I could convert that to Celsius but suffice it to say it was a huge drop. Here come the potholes!

  67. Saffyishere says:

Yesterday I wore Artemis by Teone Reinthal….was too busy at work to notice it, and no one made comments….However, after work I walked in the house and ,like a Samboy chip, my nose immediately detected Tobacco Vanille…hubby had put it on for his night shift. This morning I can still smell it on him.
And since it is a little milder today..approx. 18C I too am going to wear TV to my work
I need a forcefield from a couple of negative residents.

Yesterday I realised that I far, far prefer smelling the Lush/Gorilla perfume Road from Damascus on my husband than on me. Which is ok, because he wears it quite often. (So many rose-centric scents seem to sour on me, just enough to make me uncomfortable and disappointed.)

And today I’m in the filthy saffron spicy rose of Theo Fennel’s Scent. Which is one of the few that doesn’t sour. But just rolls around on fur coats, chain smoking, wearing too much lipstick, stealing all best chocolates from the box, and swapping dirty jokes with Salome.

(Fille de Berlin is another one that survives my weird rose-destroying skin, but is chilly and fierce, for all its jam.)

    • Laura Keller says:

Oh my gosh Theo Fennell, I love it and don’t know why I don’t wear it more – but I know now what I’m wearing today! Thanks =)

      • crikey says:

HURRAH. Hope you enjoyed the lushness today.

It’s a shame that this one vanished so fast from sale (and how lucky I was to snaffle some from the big cache of testers that appeared on ebay last year, having run out *years* ago.)

  69. Ingeborg says:

I think I am subconsciously saving my bottle of SL Five o’clock au gingembre, not much more than 20 ml left! Used that one Friday and Ambre des Merveilles yesterday and today.

Have forgotten to give feedback on the Amouage samples Figment Man and Figment Woman. I found them not very floral at all and weird. The male version is surprisingly the one I liked best, the other sample gets a new home with a friend of mine who wants to try it.

In Figment Man there’s something like a yeasted graham bread note early in the development, what might that be? The listed notes suggest a totally different experience than what I get on skin.

      Hey Ingeborg,
They are unusual and take some nose recalibrating. I’m wondering if they’ll become my favourites if I wear them a bit?

Guerlain Shalimar Cologne. No, not EdC but the modern EdT Cologne.
I’m not sure what they were thinking when they named art but I smell very nice in a summer Shalimar kinda way.
