Saturday Question: Hands Up If You Got Fragrance In 2018

Hello Fellow Fumies,

Every Saturday we have a Question, an idea purloined from Olfactoria’s Travels. Everyone gets to chime in with an answer, chat with other responders and it is a fun event each week. Taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

The idea is you’ll see it on the weekend or chime in through the week. Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:

  1. Keiko Mecheri Camelia
  2. Annick Goutal Vanille Charnell
  3. Oriza Legrand Horizon
  4. Amelia Cologne Camelia Intrepide
  5. Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin

Last Weeks Winner: Jaybee

Saturday Question: Hands Up If You Got Fragrance In 2018

Yes, we are only a couple of weeks in but I know some of you have already had a splurge. Don’t be shy, we all know you wanted to even if you didn’t yet. So let’s share our various gluttonies. No holding back please. This is an all or all question. You’re among friends and we understand the need to feed this addiction. So FESS UP!

Got fragrance means into your hands. Maybe you bought some things online last year that have just arrived, were gifted someones Xmas unwanted, bought or found. We don’t care HOW you got it but has it appeared in 2018

My Answer:

OK, OK, OK! I have a few admissions to make

Well I did see that Surender To Chance has the Amouage Attars in stock so I might have splurged on them.

Arrived Jan 2018

The 4160 Sample Pack arrived. WOO HOO! (Having a ball going through them)

2 x Niki de Saint Phalle zodiac 60ml (on deep discount at FragX)

2 x Annick Goutal Sables (somehow I ordered 2 and not one. SO cheap from FragNet)

Annick Goutal Duel (original bottle tester from FragNet, Basically free)

Bal a Versailles extrait 4ml

Estes Lauder Youth Dew 4ml Bath Oil

My Saturday Question to you is:

Hands Up If You Got Fragrance In 2018

  1. Annemariec says:

And some No 19 EDC I see there as well. It sneaked in somehow. Also, I think I get enabler pin for the Nikis. Reckon I mentioned them to you in the mods group. 😄

  2. crikey says:

From the department of “It would have been rude not to” to justify an impulse purchase: OK, so, with a 10% discount and a £45 refund from something else from months ago… that little 40ml bottle of Ambre Nuit was practically free. Ahem.

And, on the understanding that one can never have too much vintage Miss Dior, and that sets of miniatures can weave powerfully strange gimme magic… there *may* be a little boxed set of four 10ml vintage Dior scents in the post at the moment. And by “may” I mean, damn it, I should have sent it to home not work and it would be here now.

    • Cassieflower says:

Oh you lucky duck.😍 What 4 fragrances nestle within this little magic box?

      • crikey says:

        Quack quack!

Miss Dior, and her sisters Ella, Essence, and Issimo. While I realise Diorissimo rarely keeps her beauty in old age, here’s hoping they are in good nick.

    • Saffyishere says:

So jealous right now…Vintage Miss Dior…..lucky thing you are

      • Cassieflower says:

Na na na naaa na😂 I hope you understand.

      • Cassieflower says:

Saffy, I couldn’t find a reply box under your question re Stash Unspoken so I’ll jump in here if I may, and even if I mayn’t. Am I right in thinking you’re way down under in Ballarat??? (Cos I’m all the way up here in Ireland, and incidentally I visited there ten years ago this week on my honeymoon) Sorry, got sidetracked. Anaways. . .

      • crikey says:

Yep, agreed! Despite the effectiveness of Portia’s glorious enabling skills with Miss Dior, there’s enough of the stuff about that it’s still usually significantly cheaper than _new_ Miss Dior.

(Niki Saint P, on the other hand, seems both rare and expensive in the UK. Or I may just be looking in the wrong places.)

    • Undina says:

I thought I was covered in terms of vintage Miss Dior but now I start thinking again…
And that 40 ml bottle of Ambre Nuit will be mine – as soon as they start selling them here
      Congratulations on your finds!

      • crikey says:

Thank you! With the Dior scents, the 40ml bottles were what tipped me over from hankering in the abstract after a several of these to buying three over the past few months. 125ml of almost anything seems overwhelming. There are a few honourable exceptions, though. I’d cheerfully commit to twice that of Mitzah, for example. (My bank manager might be less cheery, though.)

(It’s entirely possible I will be in the US later this year, if you are in need of a mule.)

    • Ingeborg says:

Wait, is Ambre Nuit from Dior’s couturier line to be had in a smaller size than 125 ml now in the UK? Just wondering since I have someone shopping for me in London next month… I love several in the Dior lineup! No small size available on the international website.

      • crikey says:

Yes! The House of Fraser in Glasgow added a fancy new Dior section, with the full range of what-was-called-privee. And they have all the 40ml bottles. So I am assuming they are in all the other UK places where they sell the 125ml bottles, and larger. These small ones are not on the UK website, though, only in store.

    • Undina says:

Let me know when you know your itinerary: if your trip brings you to San Francisco, we should meet (regardless of the muling opportunity but thank you for the offer 🙂 ).

  3. chez Marzipan says:

Oh wow Portia , you did good! Niki in the gorgeous zodiac bottles and Sables both heavily discounted!!!

I have not made any fragrant purchases thus far (trying not to) and am currently enjoying what I have. As of late I have been wearing the heck out of my essential oils (those count for the SOTD, right? As I might just continue with them next week…for some strange reason it is what I am craving).

I will enjoy reading about everyone else’s purchases 🙂

  4. Chris Hartnett says:

Zoologist Civet and Camel, L’animal sauvage Marlou, Bottega Venetia, and 3 of the Dua fragrances = Opus Amber, Taboo and 44 Shades of Vanilla 😜

  5. Diana says:

So glad I’m not alone here with this constant craving for more new fragrances! So far I’ve only received one, that vintage Jicky I’d written about. Miraculously it arrived to Russia in only 7 days! It usually takes at least ten for any package to get here, so yeah, I was both pleased and surprised when it came.
And how beautiful Jicky is! I remember reading in a review that this perfume reminds them of Virginia Woolf’s and Sally Potter’s Orlando, a forever young human being free of sex limitatations. So true about Aime Guerlain’s creation, it’s 129 years old, yet it’s still going strong.

  6. Jackie b says:

I was going to say smugly, “What, already?” but then remembered my decant order that arrived last week…Fucking Fabulous (had to try) Noir de Noir, no 19 Poudre, Le Galion Eau Noble, forgettable.
Glad to see I am not alone!

  7. MMKinPA says:

I was on bit of a binge in Q4, so trying to take a buying break. I have filled and abandoned carts at Surrender to Chance, Fragrancenet and even eBay. Each time I come close I open my closet and reaffirm my resolve to use up (or test and move out) the vast sample collection that lies within. And when I get tired of sampling, I still have over 200 fragrances in larger quantity-bottles, decants, minis and roller balls – to choose from. (Some of them need to be moved out, too!)

    • Cassieflower says:

Ooh, I’ve got some catching up to do. I’ve only got about 60 bottles. I feel sooo virtuous 😂

      • MMKinPA says:

I checked – 69 full bottles (over 15ml or so) – not too far from your number. In my spreadsheet anything less in a bottle or travel spray is categorized as mini. I had a thing about collecting minis for a while, and I have a whole bunch from Sephora bonuses.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hey MMKinPA,
Yeah, the addiction is the getting for me. I could probably live very happily with 10 perfumes but……
      Portia xx

  8. Grabbed two Tocca hair fragrances deeply discounted at Marshall’s: Colette and Liliana. My excuse? I didn’t have any HAIR fragrances yet! MMKinPA, I will have to follow your example and run to my cabinet when tempted! Oh, and I might have also slipped in a purse spray of Salvador Dali Purplelight, but in my defense, it was only $4, and the nose was Francis Kurkdjian. Who knew? And do Demeter frags count? Frags like Bonfire, Lilac, Chrysanthemum? Oops.

    • chez Marzipan says:

No one can turn down deep discounts at Marshalls….and hair fragrance=hair products in my book 🙂

    • MMKinPA says:

Well, Marshall’s/TJ Maxx purchases hardly count, and hair mist is definitely a hair product, not perfume!! I rarely have any luck at my Marshall’s- last time I saw Demeter Snow and Pumpkin Pie, neither of which enticed me.

      • I saw Pumpkin Pie too — not tempted. Nor by Baby Powder, as I have the real thing. You’re right — Marshall’s sometimes has something good but I have had better luck at TJ’s, and even better luck online. And I’m reaching the point where I will no longer buy cheapies but will save my pennies and dollars for a very few expensive scents. I’ve learned a lot from the cheapies, though!

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

HA! None of it counts if you don;’t want its to OH.
      Portia xx

  9. Cassieflower says:

Oookayyy, a few small tiny little acquisitions: A backup bottle of Miss Dior parfum (yes, Portia, it’s your fault😇) a travel spray of D &G s The One, a set of 4 minis of L’artisan Parfumeur. See, not too bad at all. I’m the very picture of restraint.

  10. Kandice says:

Yes, I’ve already bought a lot but all in the smaller sizes. I bought the Neela Vermeire Discovery Set which I have been eyeing for some time. (Unfortunately none of the ones I’ve tried so far seem to be working out well for me.) I also ordered some samples from Olympic Orchids having never tried that house before. And I purchased a spray bottle of Tahitian Gardenia from Pacifica because it was 25% off. Hard to pass that by when it was only around $16. Next up will be a small spray travel size of Cafe Tuberosa from Sephora and possibly a few more samples from STC. After that, I really need to stop for awhile 🙂

  11. Erica says:

I confess! I bought a bottle of Estate Amber from Solstice Scents and of course it arrived already, their turnaround time is legendary 🙂 it’s the most gorgeous amber. It’s like layering all of my favorite amber fragrances like Kuumba Made Amber Paste, eNVie saphir, Tauer LDDM, and then enrobing them all in an aura of Estate Vanilla. Dreamy!!!

  12. Jill Wright says:

    I have thus far received…
    Angel sucree
    Angel violette
    Angel Pivione
    L’artisan Tea For Two
And picked up in person Chanel Coco Noir

  13. Tara C says:

Let’s see: Tauer Au Coeur du Désert, Dior La Colle Noire, VCA Orchidée Vanille, Amouage Myths woman, Profumum Tagete and Dulcis in Fundo, and Serge Lutens L’Incendiaire. I think that’s it for now. I am going to try to be good for a few months now until my birthday.

    • hajusuuri says:

Holy moly! Who said they were only going to buy one bottle this year or actually it was probably someone else who said that? Did you order these last year?

      • Tara C says:

The Tauer and VCA were ordered last year. My plan was to only buy 4 bottles this year but as you can see we’re already up to 5 and it’s barely the middle of January. I am going to use your suggestion for a re-do starting on lunar new year. 🙂 Thank you!

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

WOW! You sure know how to stop shopping. NOT!
Beautiful choices TaraC, I hope they all bring you years of joy.
      Portia xx

  14. hajusuuri says:

Arrived in 2018 – Slumberhouse Baque

And since they haven’t arrived yet, mum on others winging their way to me.

I see that I’ve been modest compared to many of you 🤑

    • chez Marzipan says:

I am guessing that some of them were backup bottles of Sonoma Scent Studio 🙂

      • Cassieflower says:

And I’m waiting to hear from Laurie about my wish list. I do hope that whoever takes over keeps it true to her ethic.

      • chez Marzipan says:

I have a feeling that Laurie will be selective in order to make that happen. I am hopeful 🙂

      • MMKinPA says:

I admit that I put in a request with Laurie also. Hoping I got in the queue early enough. To me, that doesn’t really count either because I can’t put it off!

      • hajusuuri says:

I think I was too late but one never knows! I included To Dream which she did not list at all but I may get lucky.

      • Tara C says:

I didn’t include any SSS in my list as I have no idea what if anything I will be able to buy.

      • chez Marzipan says:

Oh my Hajusuuri! To Dream! I forgot about that one!!! OOO I really hope that you get it!!! The sister to my beloved Lieu de Reves 🙂

  15. Anita T. Monroe says:

Yes. I am in love with Chanel 1932…Strange name, isn’t it, especially since it seems to have no link to that year…It’s a subtle spicy gem, not over the top like Coco..This one could easily become a signature scent since it seems to be a body scent that also appeals to those who are close…You can wear it in public without anyone moving away from you..My sample is almost gone, so it’s a FB in my near future…

  16. Ellen M. says:

Myrrhe Imperial, J’Adore and a few others. Very little that was new.I follow by email.

  17. Fazal says:

Of course, I have bought. Almost all of my purchases have been backups rather than entirely new additions with the exception of dress code 2017 and vintage pasha though they arrived in late 2017. But today was a little unfortunate day. My third bottle of 31 rue cambon 200ml bottle arrived but damaged and with significant leak. the tube is damaged so I fear it will result in evaporation over time. I dont know if there is a problem with chanel les exclusifs bottles because my first bottle of rue cambon also arrived leaking. Only second bottle was a little fortunate and now third also arrived leaking. Chanel stands for quality yet this is how their les exclusif line has turned out for me.

    • Fazal says:

just to add, I am trying to hoard Rue Cambon in edt formula (have not tried edp and dont want to since reviews say it has lost that interesting citrusy opening). Rue Cambon is probably my most favorite in the les exclusifs line.

      • Saffyishere says:

31 Rue Cambon is gorgeous. Have you made any complaints to Chanel regarding their poor quality products? I’d be crying for days if I recived a bottle in the condition you describe.

      • Fazal says:

I got all rue cambons from third parties because I look for bargain prices 🙂 . Chanel does not sell edts now anyways.

  18. JH says:

Guilty as charged! Just two days ago I bought Nicolaï’s Vie de Château Intense and Maharanih Intense, as well as another bottle of Le Temps d’une Fête, at a very good price! I wanted a bottle of ELdO Rien Intense Incense as well, but they are out of stock…

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hey JH,
Where did you find Le Temps d’une Fête, lucky you. I’m hoarding mine and only sniff the nozzle nowadays.
      Portia xx

  19. Anastasia says:

I’ve got a discovery set from The House of Matriarch and 5 more Zoologist perfumes as a new year gift from my partner and from myself to me))) Haven’t tried them yet. Started trying a set from 4160 Tuesdays though. Centrepiece and Buddawood Box are gorgeous. Which 4160 have you got Portia?

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hey Anastasia,
I too have been trying the Sample Set.
My first 4160 purchase will be while in London in April.
      Portia xx

  20. Gina says:

I haven’t bought any frags this year because I was in Mexico Jan. 3-12, but one arrived that I bought in December: Piguet Casbah. I am trying it today.

  21. Suzy Q says:

Well, hmmm. I see I’ve got some catching up to do! Last year I’d spent my entire perfume budge for the year by May. This year I’m trying to spread it out the spending. But…I’m “this close” to buying Arielle Shoshana eep and Tea for Two. I can’t hold off and “wait until my birthday” because my birthday is also this month!

I sampled Lune Feline recently and it was so amazing I almost fainted! I’m going to wait until Surrender to Chance has a sale and pick up a decant. I wish Atelier des Ors offered travel sizes.

You all may be enabling me 🙂

  22. Ingrid says:

Last week a 30ml bottle of Cabochard Parfum arrived that I won on eBay. You’ve put me on to that, Portia, and I’m so glad you did! I wanted to buy some other frags but I’ll wait until this hellish heat lets up. I don’t care if I get a heat stroke as long as my poor perfumes survive this 🙂

  23. Tena says:

I just ordered a mini of Black Perfecto, a travel spray of Myrrhe & Delires and A bottle of Petites Papiers from Mad et Len.

Ask me how my no-buy is going 🙂

  24. Marzipan says:

I’m waiting for a bottle of Traversée du Bosphore L’Artisan. It has ben shipped. Can’t wait.

  25. Anna Maria says:

I accidentally bought Shalimar 50ml in a gift pack with a mascara 30% off…couldnt help myself at David Jones!! after our Art Gallery Day out oops

  26. Cassieflower says:

Errr in the interests of full disclosure, I had better mention SJP Covet. I did forgot, I’m old and that’s my excuse. 😊

  27. Lynda Allen says:

Yes my hand is up 😎
    Discovery sets of the following:
    – zoology
    – juliette has a gun
    – imaginary authors
    – one seed

FBs of Goldfield and Banks White Sandlewood and Pacific Rock Moss

Discovery sets don’t count right? 😋😋😋

    • Saffyishere says:

Indeed, yes Lynda, discovery sets count…. sad but true.Does the One Seed set contain Slow Fire?

    • chez Marzipan says:

Full bottles of Goldfield and Banks…nice! I have a decant of Wood Infusion and I just adore it. Looking forward to hearing what you have to say about those as well as the One Seed. I had a full bottle of one of their scents years ago (the name escapes me) and I drained it….was a lovely lavender one.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

HA! It only counts if you want it to, otherwise no foul.
      Portia xx

  28. Tess says:

Um, I’ve been a tad naughty, so here goes: I got Une Amourette Roland Mouret Etat Libre d`Orange. I also got the One Seed sample pack, the Forte & Manle discovery set. And I may or may not have a bottle of Fath de Fath Jacques Fath on it’s way to me. Ok, fine – I do. Oh and another discovery set: Eight and Bob. Plus some other samples. That’s it. Promise. For the next little while ;p

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Woo Hoo Tess,
      Welcome to your spirit home.
      Portia xx

      • Tess says:

Thank you! I’ve been wishing for ages that there was an Australian perfume site like this, and then stumbled across it when I was looking for something else – it’s awesome!

  29. Kathryn says:

I have only caved once this year. Couldn’t resist adding the stunning Nasomatto Narcotic Venus to my collection.

I have been wanting this fragrance forever. It was well worth the splurge.

  30. Shane Fergusson says:

Yup I’m weak! Just a few Tom Ford Grey Vetiver & Black Orchard, Alexandria Fragrances Anubis Kiss, Alexandria Port & The God Father. Dior Homme Purfum. Lagerfeld Classic. Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. Thats all so far 😉

  31. Saffyishere says:

Nothing has arrived yet, however I have a few samples winging their way from LUCKYSCENT to moi in little Ballarat. A few of the Penhaligon’s exclusives.
And now I’m thinking I need to look for those Nikki Zodiac bottles

  32. Maggiecat says:

Hand sort of up if you count samples (how did I not know about Portrait of a Lady till now???) or aromatherapy oils, which I bought along with a small diffuser today.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Yep, it’s all fragrance Maggiecat,
Isn’t it lovely having some Eos scenting the house? I don’t do it often enough.
      Portia xx

  33. Melanie says:

Fessing up to L’artisan Dzing, and d’ Ambre and Balmain Ambre Gris. And just last week ordered L’art Voleur Roses and as a blind buy to get me free postage 30ml Niki st Phalle ( given it gets stacks of good press here I thought what the heck – and if for some strange reason I don’t like it I know some peeps here that do!!)

    • chez Marzipan says:

I don’t think you will be disappointed with the Niki…it is such an unusual and glorious scent and I love that it gets mentioned so much her on APJ.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hey there Melanie,
Voleur de Roses by L`Artisan Perfumer is one of Scott’s favourite roses. He smells so beautiful in it.
Isn’t Balmain Ambre Gris a freaky beautiful thing? I have gone through at least 20ml of my bottle, maybe more.
      Portia xx

    • Saffyishere says:

Here’s hopin’ ya fall in love with Nikki.

  34. Laura Keller says:

So from January 1 through today, January 13:
January Scent Project Smolderose (Parfum) and Eau De Parfum
Estee Lauder Vtg Azuree Pure Fragrance backup 2 oz
Estee Lauder Vtg Estee Super Cologne splash backup
    Aromatics Elixir Perfumer’s Reserve
TF$ Oud Fleur (split w BFF)
K de Krizia Vtg .61 ml extrait
Krasniy Mak (Red Poppy) Vtg extrait
    Vintage Missoni (80s) extrait splash
    Clinique Aromatics Elixir Perfumer’s Reserve

DSH Annual Sale – Mata Hari extrait & edp
    Mirabella extrait & edp
    Etole de Vison extrait
    Fou d’Opium

That’s it. Nothing on order, done for the year. HaHa NOT TRUE!

    • Cassieflower says:

      The AE perfumer’s reserve. Where??!

      • Laura Keller says:

eBay. I finished a bottle in November and it has been acceptably priced recently. I’m pretty sure there are a few others listed in the same price neighborhood , as well as the ever popular bottles priced in “is this seller high?” range. 😛

    • hajusuuri says:

Could be true if you decide that January is your year end…or maybe adapt to the Lunar calendar…the new year starts Feb 15 (too lazy to check).

      • Tara C says:

Since so far my no buy has been a failure, I plan to take the option of starting on Tet (Chinese new year). Thanks for suggesting the perfect solution!

      • Laura Keller says:

Erm, well, there *are* several orders en route, including my last Sonoma bottles, and commitments with sellers for certain purchases have been arranged for each of Dear Husband’s paychecks into early March. I don’t foresee many needs after that for this year, but I don’t ever rule out a well-priced excellent condition beloved vintage, an exceptional new release like Dryad or the bi-annual DSH sale. =)

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

WOW! That is a huge haul Laura,
What fun you’ll have opening and spritzing that lot.
      Portia xx

    • Saffyishere says:

The Estee Lauders… where from….were they exxy? NEEDS a bottle of each….Did they have Alliage also?

      • Laura Keller says:

Uh oh.. I don’t know what exxy is *blush*. I get almost all of my vintage from eBay, and when it comes to my Lauders – Cinnabar, Youth Dew, Estee and my more recently beloved Azuree I buy them like housewives buy milk or tomato sauce: when my stock drops to less than enough for a visit to a fallout shelter I buy more. I’m lucky to be at a place in my life right now where I can jump on great deals, and I do. Aliage is calling me but the last time I wore it – probably the 80s – it didn’t love me so I’ve been holding off..I’ll probably cave the next time I do see a good bottle at a good price (not common with any of them except YD now as I’m sure you know!) As a young woman I never fell for some classics despite trying (in some cases repeatedly) over the decades. In the last two years I’ve not only found I like them all now, when they’re a huge pita to get, but I’m obsessed with several: No. 5, Poison, Miss Dior, Estee, Azuree & Cabochard. Like someone flipped a go crazy for these switch. So hurrah for eBay because there’s no where else around here that my mostly housebound self would be able to even hope to find any of them! I think you’re close to my age (though I still get my own kids mixed up so forgive me if I’m wrong) in which case you know the conundrum of being an older perfumista: I was lucky to live when great perfume full of naughty things like oakmoss & nitromusk was easily available and wearing it was not something likely to offend. I’m not buying blind. Otoh most moderns don’t satisfy, no one can tell me current Azuree is worth more than vintage. I spent sooo much buying popular moderns blind before I faced my sad vintage addiction. I’d love to have all of that back but anyhow lesson learned. =)

  35. Tina G says:

    Hehe. No, I haven’t purchased anything yet. Seriously, I really haven’t! :O

    • Undina says:

      • Tina G says:

Hehe! 🙂 I have to be careful saying ‘I didn’t buy anything” when it comes to perfume – sometimes I get stuff in the post and I’m mystified until I open them and have an ‘oh yea…’ moment. But none of that this year so far!

I’m saving $ at the moment, so to keep me occupied I’ve been learning how to preserve – I’ve mastered cherry jam, and am just about to embark on green mango chutney. I’ve got about 5 kilos of green mangoes from my neighbours tree. Yay!

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Woo Hoo Tina,
I notice though you’re not buying perfume you are now creating fragrant edible things. Nice crossover hobby.
      Portia x

  36. Marie says:

I made use of your Surrender to Chance voucher and ordered some samples that are hard to get over here in Europe. Serge Lutens Douce Amere, Sonoma Scent Studio Tabac Aurea and Parfums Delrae Mytique. They have not arrived yet but are already shipped *yippie*

  37. Ingeborg says:

No perfume so far in 2018. I am planning a purchase in February when a relative goes to London, Dior Ambre Nuit is high on the list.

      Beautiful choice Ingeborg,
It’s nice having the anticipation build, isn’t it? Though I’m not much one for waiting myself, 2018 might have to be the year of better money management for me.
      Portia xx

      • Jyotsna says:

Ah yes, me too, Portia. I just noticed that I blow the budget before Valentine’s day every year. But then I am not an experienced buyer so don’t buy on ebay and places and typically buy fb.

This year, if I have ANY money come January 31, I will try samples. Just this level of self-awareness is awesome, I feel I should reward myself. With perfume 😁 xo

I didn’t plan to buy anything in January (for no specific reason – I’m just slow these days with making decisions on what to buy) but then Anthropologie had a sale and I couldn’t pass on $36 for Berdoues Assam of India (I had to pay for shipping and tax but it’s still almost 50% off). I would have bought one more perfume but was too slow and it was sold out by the time I went. If anyone is interested, they still have 3 perfumes left on the site. It’s $60 minus 40% once you put it into the cart.

OOOOH! See, this is what I can’t ignore. BARGAINS! Especially if they’ve been on my list for a while or are faves.
I just went a bit crazy on Fragrance and Art, they’re having a 50% off sale on some older stock and if you spend a certain amount free shipping. Rude not to.

      • Jyotsna says:

I did not need to know about Fragrance and Art quite so soon into the new year. Sigh.
        Where’s that piggy bank?

  39. Ceil says:

I got Mon Guerlain and Shalimar souffle intense… they sent me regular souffle so I’m waiting for the intense to arrive. also bought Issey Miyake Home for a friend.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      YAY! Happy sniffing there Ceil,
I like Mon Guerlain a lot.
You will be leaving sweet fragrant trails.
      Portia xx

  40. Ingeborg says:

Thanks, so good to know! I’ll put a few on the actual to-buy list and hope the lads won’t be too busy with football and pubs to do this shopping.

  41. Neva says:

Since I was traveling from 2.1. I couldn’t do much damage but in the end I had too much time during my airport stays so I’ve ordered a decant of Galop d’Hermes.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hey Neva,
Not the hugest bust. You can pat yourself on the back for restraint.
      Where are you travelling?
      Portia xx

      • Neva says:

I was in Peru. Just arrived today. The trip was so fun and adventure packed that I didn’t have time to think about perfume. Can you imagine?

  42. Jyotsna says:

I was about to say – but it’s only the 15th. I haven’t been out enough to do significant damage to the cc but then I remember I was at mecca and there was five o clock (pricey) and I was at Aesop so there was the Marrakech Intense. Today is my anniversary and I got my F d’Oranger. I did say I wouldn’t buy fbs in 2018 but but…. I wear a lot of SL.

Then our very Gorgeous and so very Generous Portia (thank you) sent me the 5 samples I’d won. I am wearing Ex Nihilo Perfum Narcotique today. Jury’s still out on this. Teone Reinthal’s Antarctica, I love.

I need to find out more about discount stores that ship to Australia. I want to get some dsh and tauer this year. Oh and some Fort and Manle.
    So loving the posts here!

    • Jyotsna says:

Oh and I want the patchoulis by Von Eusersdorff that Val mentioned. Limited edition, iirc, so must act fast.

Thankfully this is not a post about the fragrances we hope to acquire!

  43. Tiffanie says:

Portia, you’ve touched a nerve with the perfume crowd. It’s Sunday evening and there are almost 150 comments. Looking forward to reading them, the psychology of perfume use and acquisition is fascinating to me.

I am, at the moment, holding steady at zero new scents for 2018. I would like to make a considerable dent in my stash this year. Wish me luck.

    • Jyotsna says:

Good luck, Tiffanie. I think you were the one to persuade me to go for samples and decants rather than fb; a comment in some other post.

I know what you mean by thr psychology of use & acquisition; I love the stories as much as anything else. Portia certainly has hit the right note!

      • Melanie says:

Jyotsna, come on board the samples and decant train – it’s so exciting! I’m a newbie to it & I love it! Wish I’d known about it ages ago – would have saved me buying FB of stuff I’ve since given away. It’s addictive but it’s one hell of a ride 😉❤️

    • Undina says:

I didn’t plan on buying much this year (I have great perfumes that need my skin time!), and now I’m eyeing the second bottle – and it is only 15th of January! 🙂

Oh, I know how you feel!. I’ve been eyeing a bottle of Gomma for a few days now (never tried it but seems interesting), and that Dzing! is long overdue.

I used to think that one FB a month is too much. Huh! I’m on a rather strict budget, yet somehow I see a couple of bottles (half or otherwise) or at least a few samples fall into my lap. It must be magic 🙂

  44. Diana says:

… A bottle of an older version of Dune arrived today!

  45. Saffyishere says:

To Laura.. “exxy’ is ‘expensive’ lol
Where are you located? Cabochard is a fabulous scent ,too…and yes , I’m old…. Turning 52 in June

    • Laura Keller says:

Lol. You’re still a babe. I’ll be 57 in May! I guess that they weren’t as exy as some, but there’s really no cheap with good vintage Lauder anymore is there? I’m in Philadelphia. And you?

    • Jyotsna says:

Saffy- oh we might be twins! 😁 which day in june?
