Hi APJ,
I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.
SOTD 29 January – 4 February 2018
The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:
- Hiram Green Slowdive
- Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Cologne
- Annick Goutal Sables
- Vintage CHANEL No 22 EdC
- Evocative Perfumes Imogen
Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.
Last Weeks WINNER: Crikey

Hi MMKinPA and anyone else lurking around.
I am wearing Bright Crystal again … 3rd day! We have had a massive heatwave which ended today in awful humidity, and I think Bright Crystal lives up to its name in this kind of heat, and, astonishingly for my skin, it lasts!
LikeLike
My eldest childhood friend of 50 years adores Bright Crystal…so much so that my three children (who refer to her as Aunt C…”) gifted her a huge bottle of it for her birthday this year. She is just coming around to getting into perfume and it has been fun having her test things with me.
LikeLike
Hi CM. It would be great to have a ‘real life’ friend to share perfume with. And congratulations on 50 years of friendship.
Bright Crystal is probably the most ‘pink’ perfume I own and it’s not something I would have expected to last on me, but it does.
And my cat LOVES it.
LikeLike
I do like Bright Crystal – every time I smell it on someone else, I want to rush out and buy a bottle, but there are several others ahead of it on my wishlist! Sue Mills, that’s funny that your cat loves it. My cat is a bit of a weirdo and loves anything with a sweaty/BO note or an animalic note – those really get his attention and he will spend ages sniffing my wrist, then he gives me the lovey eyes :))
LikeLike
Tess, cats are strange beings, aren’t they?
Our late and very missed Bengal was very sensitive to scent. I came home from some spritzing one day – Chanel No. 5, but not sure of the concentration – and my cat approached me, sniffed my arm delicately and thoroughly, and looked up at me thoughtfully with her nose still pressed to my wrist
And then she bit me. Hard. Deliberately. Spitefully.
I believe she was a Dior girl.

Hello APJ’s! I hope you are having a lovely day! I am wearing Lanvin, Arpege today. I just want to give Lanvin a shout out today. I have four different vintages and I’m wearing the newer one today. It really stands up as saying all the same things as it’s older sisters in a way I haven’t found in any other perfume…

Congratulations Crikey! I’m wearing TF’s newest Vanille Fatale. I can see why this is getting so much love amongst perfumistas. It’s a gorgeous scent and probably the first TF I’ve really wanted to buy. However given the price point of his fragrances, I will be managing with larger sample sizes only. It’s well worth trying if you haven’t yet. None of the notes really stand out but blend together seamlessly. Happy Monday everyone!

Just got a fragrant package from my best friend (“It’s Christmas again!” says the hubs as soon as it arrived and I ripped open the box and spread the goodies across the floor). Right hand has vintage Marbert Man (had to look this one up on fragrantica) which reminds me of Old Spice and I am really loving it. The left wrist has Solid State Drifter (also a masculine solid cologne but it comes off very sweet and powdery on my skin and I love it too!)
Tomorrow I will test drive Ineke’s Idyllwild.

Test driving ERis Parfums Mx, Out of the vial it reminds me a bit of 1000 Flowers Ode for Him which was a big hit in the house amongst both the female and male younger Marzipans (they drained the bottle so I can’t do a side by side comparison). Similar notes I think. Upon application the hubs says, “did you just put perfume on?”…”ummm, yes, do you like it?” His response, “Not bad, it is a very retro scent…reminds me of something from the 1980s”…this coming from a man who has zippo interest in fragrances…I was laughing at the fact that he used the phrase “retro scent”. I rather like it too and think it would work on both a man and woman.
When I get to work I will do a quick spritz of Marbert Man on my sweater.

and a quick question for Portia-
Someone recommended L’homme Ideal as an option for a fragrance that has a dominant almond/marzipan note. I love “cheapies” and will wear them anytime and anywhere. When I started wearing perfume (1971) there were no real niche or indie lines so there were quite a few cheapies in my collection (including many Avons). Thanks for your interpretations! We have four full bottles in the house (only one belongs to me). Yesterday was Paul Schutze’s Tears of Eros–so the hyacinth would help remind me spring is on the way. But the evening was a generous slathering of Deep Heat to prevent my arm objecting to the start of rehab exercises. And man, does that stuff reek when it’s in quantity.

Jicky. It’s been raining all day, turns out Jicky loves this kind of weather.
And now I’m doing a parallel trialling of Penhaligon’s LP 9 and Dune. They have quite a lot in common but Dior wins 🙂

Just popped in to say hi and see how everyone is doing (smelling 😄)
I have been sufferring from the worst asthma attacks ever. Scary. Fragrance free. Not even naturals. Except for eucalyptus oil in my steam inhaler. Hope that i am not developing an allergy to fragrances.
The posts here haved cheered me up. xx

Ostara..trying it for the first time…maybe it will usher in some spring weather? still dealing with lots of cold and snow 😦

Love Ostara. Still pissed off that they discontinued it before it barely had a chance to live.
How are you getting on with it?

I can clearly see why it gets a lot of love…it is extraordinarily pretty…but there was something about it that was making me feel a bit queazy an hour later…I am going to resample it in the spring (I have a decant that my best friend sent me) but will put it on my wrist versus my neck (further away from my nose).

I’m DESPERATE to smell Ostara… it seemed to be only available for 6 mths before it simply vanished. According to Phil you’ll get an extra 6 weeks of Winter….hang in there, Marzipan Matriarch.

It was d/c but then showed up heavily discounted online. Keep your eyes open for it 🙂 But I do recommend you try it first before blind buying….see my comment above.
Sadly, we had another massive snowstorm on the day of Phil’s prediction….heavy wet snow. I am still sore from shoveling….I cannot wait for spring to arrive!!!

I wore SL Santal Majuscule yesterday. It was my first time to try it and while I think it’s beautiful, I think I’d prefer it on a man. Today I’m wearing Pacifica Tahitian Gardenia. I needed something to brighten my mood today. Have a good weekend everyone!

Last night I tested Slowdive. From a dabber, I got much honey and not much else. Not bad but not swoon worthy. This morning I’m testing Moon Bloom which is lovely but from a dabber it’s not lasting very long. After shower I will try more iris – Prada infusion d’iris. I have several samples which I have mostly forgotten about – too many samples!

I love Hiram Green, but Slowdive was the same for me as for you. After about 5-10 minutes it became all honey, so not for me. Moon Bloom does last on me and it’s so pretty. Today is sampling day. Menditterosa Ritual is confusing. It’s that rare perfume that I do not know whether I like it or not. Think I’m leaning a little towards like. dnem

50 year-old Shalimar today.
Sometimes when I’m wearing it, the film Working Girl comes to mind. Although Sigourney Weaver’s character in it is treacherous (but brilliant nonetheless), her taste in perfumes is impeccable: Shalimar, Magie Noire …
And as I got inspired by the newest thread, I’ve got some Nu on!

YAY! Love that you’ve been inspired Diana,
How good was Working Girl?

Well, there are Sigourney and Harrison Ford in it, so it’s bound to be at least partly awesome 🙂 More important, it has this “pick yourself up & start all over” vibe, I just love that!

Sunday I am wearing a sample of Atelier Cologne Santal Carmin….I think that is the name.. lol.. having trouble reading the wording .

One of my favourite things to do while testing is to wear one on each side Melanie,’

Watching 400 miles of changing countryside whip past me through the train windows, I’m wearing the very last drops of a Dryad sample. I’m dangerously close to taking a detour to Les S tomorrow and nabbing a bottle if I have time (on my way to London for a work chore).
yesterday: Black Perfecto in the morning, running around doing chores, getting visa photos taken, and a gym session. And after sauna and shower, lashings of Jicky to carry me through the grey rainy afternoon (Diana, you’re right: Jicky LOVES this kind of weather. Also, small cat loves Jicky, and I had an armful of purrs while reading.

Forgot to mention that I will be wearing Berdoues Grand Cru Collection Arz el Rab (Cedar of the Gods) as my evening scent for the month for Undina’s Month of Iris challenge….this is such a beautiful fragrance of ginger, iris and cedarwood…..all of the Berdoues are diaphanous but have great lasting power on my scent eating skin.
Has anyone tried the Berdoues Amande & Tonka? I am curious as I am still looking for a fragrance that smells like the hubs’ memory of Jergens Lotion…I have had a few almond fragrances on a list but am crossing them off as I hear others’ thoughts…looking for a marzipan/ cherry almond dominant note.
