Hi APJ,

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 29 January – 4 February 2018

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:

  1. Hiram Green Slowdive
  2. Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Cologne
  3. Annick Goutal Sables
  4. Vintage CHANEL No 22 EdC
  5. Evocative Perfumes Imogen

Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.

Last Weeks WINNER: Crikey

  1. Seville a l’Aube today. Haven’t worn it in a while (what else is new – too much perfume) but I have little travel spray that caught my eye this morning. Happy Monday!

  2. Hi MMKinPA and anyone else lurking around.
I am wearing Bright Crystal again … 3rd day! We have had a massive heatwave which ended today in awful humidity, and I think Bright Crystal lives up to its name in this kind of heat, and, astonishingly for my skin, it lasts!

    • My eldest childhood friend of 50 years adores Bright Crystal…so much so that my three children (who refer to her as Aunt C…”) gifted her a huge bottle of it for her birthday this year. She is just coming around to getting into perfume and it has been fun having her test things with me.

      • Hi CM. It would be great to have a ‘real life’ friend to share perfume with. And congratulations on 50 years of friendship.
Bright Crystal is probably the most ‘pink’ perfume I own and it’s not something I would have expected to last on me, but it does.
        And my cat LOVES it.

        Like

      • I do like Bright Crystal – every time I smell it on someone else, I want to rush out and buy a bottle, but there are several others ahead of it on my wishlist! Sue Mills, that’s funny that your cat loves it. My cat is a bit of a weirdo and loves anything with a sweaty/BO note or an animalic note – those really get his attention and he will spend ages sniffing my wrist, then he gives me the lovey eyes :))

      • Tess, cats are strange beings, aren’t they?
Our late and very missed Bengal was very sensitive to scent. I came home from some spritzing one day – Chanel No. 5, but not sure of the concentration – and my cat approached me, sniffed my arm delicately and thoroughly, and looked up at me thoughtfully with her nose still pressed to my wrist
And then she bit me. Hard. Deliberately. Spitefully.
I believe she was a Dior girl.

  3. Hello APJ’s! I hope you are having a lovely day! I am wearing Lanvin, Arpege today. I just want to give Lanvin a shout out today. I have four different vintages and I’m wearing the newer one today. It really stands up as saying all the same things as it’s older sisters in a way I haven’t found in any other perfume…
    Peace, Alanna

  4. The remains of vintage Chamade perfume on my bathrobe. My best friend who is a true perfumista gifted me a sample of this beauty…it is a 1ml vial that actually came in a box with the Guerlain black/white lines/logo and the date on the back…1967…..this is absolutely sublime.

  6. Mondays and Wednesdays I need something that holds up 14 hours without reapplication. I was going to spritz some Guerlain Ensens Mythique, but I’m switching to Amouage Bracken Woman; that one can go the distance, and I don’t wear too often.

  7. Congratulations Crikey! I’m wearing TF’s newest Vanille Fatale. I can see why this is getting so much love amongst perfumistas. It’s a gorgeous scent and probably the first TF I’ve really wanted to buy. However given the price point of his fragrances, I will be managing with larger sample sizes only. It’s well worth trying if you haven’t yet. None of the notes really stand out but blend together seamlessly. Happy Monday everyone!

  10. What a bloody lovely day. Still in London, and eating art with hungry eyes. Walking over the river to the Tate Modern and the new extension there for a few hours, along the south bank to the just re-opened Hayward and the amazing Gursky retrospective. And a slow wandering, talking walk back over to Bloomsbury where we are staying. And all in Naja. A really good choice to add to today’s feast for the eyes and soul and brain.

Right hand has vintage Marbert Man (had to look this one up on fragrantica) which reminds me of Old Spice and I am really loving it. The left wrist has Solid State Drifter (also a masculine solid cologne but it comes off very sweet and powdery on my skin and I love it too!)

Tomorrow I will test drive Ineke’s Idyllwild.

    Like

      • You know its funny but fragrantica describes Marbert Man as an aromatic fougere with spices in it…I am sure it is chock full of REAL oakmoss as it was made in the late 70s…this would pass as niche today if you put it in a different bottle…I am a petite little old woman but I am going to wear this to death cause I love it and cross my fingers that no one asks me what I am wearing-LOL!

    • Hi Tiffanie, Mythique is a nice chypre, isn’t it? It reminded me of some vintage perfumes full of patchouly. I only had a small vial to test it and I would go for a decant to test it properly.

    • This oakmossy Marbert Man stuff sounds terrific, cM. Though, the random visual picture conjured by that name is an odd one: kind of a cross between the Marlboro Man and 1970s Catalogue Man (who wears clothes and points at things) 🙂

      Like

      • Ha ha! It is a very retro scent so I don’t think it would be massively appealing but perfumistas would most definitely appreciate it. Test driving ERis Parfums Mx, Out of the vial it reminds me a bit of 1000 Flowers Ode for Him which was a big hit in the house amongst both the female and male younger Marzipans (they drained the bottle so I can’t do a side by side comparison). Similar notes I think. Upon application the hubs says, “did you just put perfume on?”…”ummm, yes, do you like it?” His response, “Not bad, it is a very retro scent…reminds me of something from the 1980s”…this coming from a man who has zippo interest in fragrances…I was laughing at the fact that he used the phrase “retro scent”. I rather like it too and think it would work on both a man and woman.

When I get to work I will do a quick spritz of Marbert Man on my sweater.

  27. and a quick question for Portia-
Someone recommended L’homme Ideal as an option for a fragrance that has a dominant almond/marzipan note. I am on the hunt for an almond/cherry scent because hubs recently told me that his favorite childhood fragrance is Jergens Lotion which smells of almonds and cherries. What are your thoughts on L’Homme? Is it very almondy? I will see if I can find a review of it on APJ.

    Like

    • Hey CM,
I have the cologne version of L’homme Ideal. My thoughts are that La Petit Robe Noire might be a better bet for him. It is ALL about the cherries and marzipan.
You’ll have to take him to the mall for a sniff.

      • Ha ha! Fat chance…he leaves me alone when I wander into Sephora or Macys to “do sniffing” as he refers to it! for some reason LPRN comes off as all cherry /cough syrup on my skin…not enough almond….someone recommended Desert Essence Sweet Almond body lotion so I am going to give that a test drive next time I see it in the wild.

      • Yes, a couple of folks recommended that as a marzipan/almond fragrance but I think there are other notes in there as well. I have a list of all the almond perfumes I must try somewhere down the line. Right now I am busy working my way through everything I already have in the house 🙂

  28. Melodie de l’Amour Dusita. It strongly reminds me of Eau de Joy but Melodie is a bit greener and the jasmine is not as heady as in the Patou’s creation. This and Armani’s Rouge Malachite have changed my perspective on tuberose.

    • I love “cheapies” and will wear them anytime and anywhere. When I started wearing perfume (1971) there were no real niche or indie lines so there were quite a few cheapies in my collection (including many Avons). I don’t think the Body Shop or Bath and Body Works or Victoria Secret (yes, I secretly wear some of those too….confession time now 🙂 ) were even in existence. So the cheapies were drugstore goodies (Yardley, Revlon, Coty, etc) and Avon.

yesterday: Black Perfecto in the morning, running around doing chores, getting visa photos taken, and a gym session. And after sauna and shower, lashings of Jicky to carry me through the grey rainy afternoon (Diana, you’re right: Jicky LOVES this kind of weather. Also, small cat loves Jicky, and I had an armful of purrs while reading.

  55. Forgot to mention that I will be wearing Berdoues Grand Cru Collection Arz el Rab (Cedar of the Gods) as my evening scent for the month for Undina’s Month of Iris challenge….this is such a beautiful fragrance of ginger, iris and cedarwood…..all of the Berdoues are diaphanous but have great lasting power on my scent eating skin.

Has anyone tried the Berdoues Amande & Tonka? I am curious as I am still looking for a fragrance that smells like the hubs’ memory of Jergens Lotion…I have had a few almond fragrances on a list but am crossing them off as I hear others’ thoughts…looking for a marzipan/ cherry almond dominant note.
