SOTD 5 February – 11 February 2018

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 5 February – 11 February 2018

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:

  1. Atelier Cologne Tobacco Nuit
  2. Frederic Malle Geranium Pour Monsieur
  3. Vintage Caron Nocturnes
  4. Detaile Bois Oud
  5. Cacharel Liberrté

Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, will draw on Sunday.

Last Weeks WINNER: MMKinPA

  1. Despina Veneti says:

After a day of sharp stomach pain, probably due to stress, I seek a comforting, tonifying scent for today.
Clarins Eau Dynamisante didn’t fail me!

  2. chez Marzipan says:

Bottega Venneta..trying it for the first time…nicely done but I think I would prefer this on a man.

I also wanted to say that there is so much time, effort and money put forth to host and hold these weekly draws and I thank you Portia for your extraordinary generosity and kindness. Know that I come to APJ not for the draws but for the lovely chats amongst you and the commenters…APJ is such a lovely place to be. With that being said, no need to enter me in this week’s draw 🙂

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

Oh yes. We spend a lot of time & money. You guys are all worth it.
The chatter that has erupted on APJ in the last year is amazing. I love reading what you’re all spritzing, doing, winning and losing. It’s like I get daily postcards from your lives. The longer we have APJ the more it astounds me, perfume peeps are generally the best.
      Portia xx

      • Sue Mills says:

Well done everyone on these comments. I absolutely agree. I really enjoy the community here, thanks everyone for being part of it, and to Portia for creating it xx.

    • cassieflower says:

Yep, I echo what you say. It’s a fun place to drop in and say “Hi”

    • crikey says:

Wholeheartedly seconding the vote of thanks and appreciation 🙂

      • Diana says:

I’m new to this community, I’m still surprised how welcome you made me feel ever since I started to engage in these little conversations. Thank you all! All the great giveaways are a proverbial cherry on top, it really is precious to just share good vibes snd helpful perfume suggestions.

    • Jyotsna’ says:

Yes! What everyone is saying. I just love being here; laughing and sharing.
Thank you, Portia & All, for being a part of my world. You guys are the best! xx

    • Saffyishere says:

I agree with you, Mrs Marzipan.
Thanks Portia for creating a ‘community’, and particularly an online community free from nastiness and bullying.

  3. Hage Kay says:

Dear Portia, no better pleasure than wearing what you sold me a few months ago -Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Jasminora! So real and yet so subtle, not ‘in your face’ jasmine! I do wish it lasted longer though but it could be just me, perfumes just dissipate on my skin too quickly.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hi there Hage,
Yes, most of the Aqua Allegories are fleeting. Beautifully crafted and pretty but no staying power.
Jasminora needed a home where it got LOADS of love.
      Glad you’re enjoying it.
      Portia xx

    • Ingeborg says:

AA Pamplelune is the only one in this line which lasts for more than 2-3 hours on me. I have owned at least 4 others which are now discontinued, mainly citrus-y. But then again, my skin is of the scent eatimg kind.

  4. MMKinPA says:

Ditto what CM said. As somewhat of a novice the opportunity to win samples of things I haven’t smelled is absolutely amazing, so thank you again.
Atelier Silver Iris today. I don’t expect it to last so later today I will tackle some Hiram Green samples (won in a Facebook group draw… I have never been so luckily random in my life!)

  5. Jackie b says:

Needed energy today so wore No 19 earlier. The more I wear it the more I like it, is that normal for our noses do you think?
    SOTBed is Cuir Beluga. Zzzzz

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

What a fab day of fragrance JackieB,
Yeah, as we get to know the nuance it becomes easier to spot.
      Portia xx

  6. Gina says:

    Guerlain Shalimar Souffle Intense today!

  7. AnnieA says:

Chanel no. 19 for the added backbone support on a grey Monday.

  8. Kandice says:

Portia, I have to add in my thanks as well. I can’t imagine the cost or time of always sending out winning perfumes, but I’m very grateful and it’s always fun to receive them when I win.

Today I’m wearing a sample of TF’s Tobacco Vanille. While I definitely prefer Vanille Fatale, this is a very nice scent as well and I will enjoy using up my sample.

  9. cassieflower says:

SSS Cocoa Sandalwood today. It’s very quiet and unassuming, the best way I can describe it is dusty. Wears close to the skin. Have spent a lot of time over the weekend searching out some vintage Opium following Saturday’s question. I don’t really know why I haven’t done this before now. I need this in my life again. Yeah, NEED, haha.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hey Cassieflower,
For every 3 vintage Opiums I buy on eBay two are fakes. It seems to be an oft faked frag. My BFFs mum wears it exclusively and it’s getting harder & harder to keep her in it.
      Portia xx

      • Cassieflower says:

Thanks for the warning, Portia. I only look at sellers with 100% feedback, though that in itself doesn’t guarantee anything, I know. There’s a seller with small decants that I might try out, so there’s no great shelling out of cash. Wish me luck! Oh my nerves😬

    • Saffyishere says:

NEED is a big statement lol.
BTW I have sent you an email… trust it makes it to you…I’m hopeless.

    • Kandice says:

I have been doing the same thing! I sure would like to have some again. I’m glad you and Portia brought it up, and I appreciate the warning!

      • cassieflower says:

Hey Kandice, have you had any luck? I bit the bullet and bought a slightly used bottle off ebay. I was the only bidder so it wasn’t expensive. Vintage parfum is winging its way to me right now. Hope it’s utterly fabulous! Where in the world are you? I could send you a drop.

  10. crikey says:

Mito VdE. It is only Mito’s distracting gorgeousness that is keeping me from being a complete headless chicken right now. I just had to jump off my train a moment before it left because it was not actually my train… Somehow I had a ticket for a month from now! And was about to be charged 250 to stay on. Eek! After a mad dash to the ticket office, I’m 70 quid poorer, and burning with misplaced shame at the fuck up.. but I’m on the later train and heading north, and I smell bloody amazing.

(And many, many thanks to the cookie queen for steering me right on my quest to try vero’s work after a previous and unfortunate passion fruit overdose which made me avoid these wonders. And see what I’ve been missing.)

    • Cassieflower says:

250 smackeroos😮 Jeezus, that’s steep. Lucky you got off that train in time!

      • crikey says:

No kidding! That would be enough for a return train ticket to Paris from the same station, with enough left over for a Lutens bell jar!!

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      BLOODY HELL Crikey.
      Glad you caught it.
      Portia x

    • Saffyishere says:

I’m curious which Lutens bell jar would you purchase…And I’m so glad you realized your mistake quickly enough to change trains

      • crikey says:

I really don’t know, but it would be a lot of fun to try them and decide! There are so many of them I’d like to stick my beak into. The only one I have is Boxeuses, which is a real love for me. (and, um, don’t tell anyone but it was a blind buy!)

        how about you?

  11. Francesca Belanger says:

Eau du Sud, lavishly applied. It’s the only fragrance I had at my weekend place, and I love it so much I didn’t feel like waiting till I got back to town to put on something else. It’s very summery, but also works well in the bitter cold we are experiencing today.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hey Francesca,
I LOVE Eau de Sud. You have picked my SOTD for me.
      Keep warm beautiful.
      Portia xx

  12. Diana says:

Cuir de Lancome, my weapon of choice. I needed a dollop of confidence today, CdL is exactly that. Following the other week’s discussion I bought a backup bottle of this one 🙂

  13. shiva-woman says:

Today I’m wearing a sizeable amount of Cape Heartache by IA. It doesn’t always get a lot of love with Bloggers, but I quite like it. To my nose it’s Amouage Bracken Woman meets Serge Lutens Fille en Anguilles but perhaps simpler than both, more easy to wear and less spendy. The smoke comes through more on me than in the SL and it’s less bracken/green than the Amouage.
    shiva-woman recently posted…SOTD 5 February – 11 February 2018My Profile

  14. Fazal Cheema says:

My SOTD is vintage eau sauvage layered with vintage le male. As expected, le male is dominant

  15. Tess says:

Aromatics Elixir – the last couple of weeks have been crappy, with more family dramas ahead, and Aromatics Elixir is one of the scents I turn to when I need a little boost.

  16. Jyotsna’ says:

    Good morning!
Kiddo back at school today. Year 3!
I am wearing Chanel 19 – much needed after a week of being sick.
    Take care, lovely friends xx

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Morning Jyotsna,
Lots of CHANEL No 19 being worn this week. It’s cool, crisp and poised elegance can get us through anything.
      Get well lovely.
      Portia xx

  17. Melanie says:

Yesterday was Robert Piguet Calypso. Says reissue on the little label – new formula? Only drama it did not last at all. Not even 30mins so when I got to work I put Dame’s Desert Rose over the top and I smelt awesome till well after lunch.
Home for couple days so have Montale Louban on left, Berdoues Oud al Sahraa right side. Montale, strangely is very soft and steamy. I can just pick out the Oud and sandalwood. Sahraa I get more incense but it’s very soft on my arm. I feel it’s better at floating around me than on my skin. See how they go when I step out to run some errands in the hot.

Me too super happy to have found Portia and APJ. It’s a lovely place to visit, read, comment, meet cool people and find new perfumes to add to the growing decant wish list.

  18. Ingeborg says:

Cold weather, around minus 10 C , so put on a good amount of 5 o’clock au gingembre. Even if it’s spicy it dos ‘t seem to bother anyone at work, so I am able to wear it even in days with meetings.

I really feel like hibernating, but plenty of fruit and some warm chocolate in the evening got me through most of my planned activities today.

So grateful for the friendly community here at APJ and happy to report that one of the Amouage samples I won not long ago found a new and better home! My friend loved the scent and I was happy to share something new with her

  19. Saffyishere says:

Hello All. Yesterday I spent the day wearing Imogen by Evocative Perfumes brand. It stayed on my skin for approx. 4 hours. I wore Bluebell in the arvo, then Fancy Nights to bed. Insomnia took hold of me at 3amish,so I applied the last drops of a 2ml decant of Keiko Mercheri Johana

    • Cassieflower says:

Isn’t insomnia just the bloody worst? I’ve gone from someone who slept like the dead to this zombie who wakes regularly at 3 a.m. and cannot get back to sleep until it’s almost up time. Luckily I don’t work every day as I work evenings and weekends so I manage to get enough kip to keep going. Sleep deprivation is a very efficient torture tool.

  20. Jackie b says:

Sleep deprivation is the worst kind of torture! And at 3 am everything seems dire and dismal and you magnify every single one of your worries.
Perhaps a small vial of something to dab when that happens…not sure what that might be but something not too challenging. Any suggestions?

  21. chez Marzipan says:

Bottega Venetta Eau Leguere (I know I am misspelling this one)…lovely…it reminds me of something from my past but I just can’t figure out what!

  22. chez Marzipan says:

Bottega Veneta Eau Legere…now it is spelled accurately 🙂

  23. Neva says:

I’ve decided to test my newest samples this week. Today it was from the Italian perfume house Nobile 1942 – Vespri Esperidati W (for Woman) and Vespri Aromatico. Both feel like colognes to me, although they have a rather good longevity. Vespri Esperidati W is sunshine in a bottle. I’ve never felt so much citrus during the first 10 minutes…bergamot, lemon, tangerine, grapefruit..when they’re gone it turns slightly bitter (petitgrain?) and woody in the end. Vespri Aromatico is herbal (fennel, juniper) and slightly salty. Less citrus and soon it feels like chamomille tea with salt, aquatic. Interesting but I prefer the Esperidati.

    • Saffyishere says:

Neva I need an IV infusion of that Esperati, and the Aromatico in an alcoholic beverage!!!

      • Neva says:

LOL Saffyishere, I know what you mean. I woke up only to find a new layer of snow on the ground, on my car, etc…I’m definitely NOT the winter type so I’ll try and find some consolation in perfume again.

  24. MMKinPA says:

Making a decant this morning of SJP Stash and I managed to spill a bit so that’s my SOTD!

  25. crikey says:

Gathering of the Clans–it’s one of the not-really-released 4160 Tuesdays mods that Sarah puts in her new year sales, this one from last year. I’d forgotten how nice this is to wear. It’a a lot airier than most of my scents, though with its leather-clad feet still touching the peat.

  26. Cassieflower says:

SSS Jour Ensoleille. My absolute favourite of Laurie’s line. It is cheeriness in a bottle and sillage and staying power are fantastic. I never want to run out of this beauty.

  27. VerbenaLuvvr says:

Today it is DSH Cimabue. Not crazy about the opening but love it after the first 10 minutes.

  28. Francesca Belanger says:

Feb 6: I’m seeing a play called Farinelli and the King tonight. It’s set in 18th-century Spain, so Seville à l’Aube would be a perfect choice–only orange blossom does not work on me, for me (though it’s lovely on others). So, fast forwarding to the 19th century, I’ve picked a spicy rose–what I call a “potpourri rose”–MPeG George Sand, which I believe has now been dc’d (sad face). I really love it. It’s beautifully warm and old-fashioned in the best possible way.

  29. Tess says:

Today I wanted something that perks me up, so I’m wearing Reminiscence Vanille layered with Al Rehab Choco Musk – a yummy cloud of chocolate-vanilla deliciousness! Hopefully it will keep my stabby mood from yesterday away :p

    • Saffyishere says:

Awwwww, stabby moods get me in trouble, so I grit my teeth on those days . Hope the scent/s you’ve chosen work wonders. I had a manufactures card of the Reminiscence Vanille, however I gave it a colleague at work….I don’t know if she ever tried it.

  30. Saffyishere says:

    Good morning/arvo/evening to all.
Well kids, you’ll be pleased to know I slept like a baby last night. However I woke up feeling quite melancholy, and then realized I as alone…. I had forgotten hubby has gone away for a few days. I have been playing the song ‘Hope there’s Someone’ by Mick Hucknall on repeat….at least 10 times. Now I’m playing the Simply Red CD, appropriately named BLUE, lol
I usually whinge about dabber samples, however today the sample I tried was a dabber. The scent was Roaring Radcliff…..Penhaligon’s answer to the oud explosion…5 years after the boat has sailed!!! It was a SCREECHIER version of Tobacco Vanille. I adore TF’s TV, so Radcliff will be roaring in my not like’ sample collection. I have scrubbed it off, and plan to be scentless until I visit my local perfumery this morning.

  31. Jyotsna’ says:

    Charlatan today. Mmm. Delicious. Perfect.
A day of applications & stuff. Please wish me luck,
Have a lovely Wednesday, everyone. xx

  32. Saffyishere says:

Cassieflower…..ANOTHER Stash has landed somewhere in the world…prob USA.. called Stash Prive… we will have to keep eyes peeled for that one ,too.

  33. Saffyishere says:

Was looking for something floral. However, my hands grabbed the apple bomb of DKNY Be Delicious

  34. Melanie says:

My Goldfield & Banks samples arrived so today is Desert rosewood. It’s super pretty. Soft, classy and quiet but I’m getting wafts as I move around. Card says Buddha wood, mandarin, cardamom, benzoin, vanilla & patchouli. Want to spray the last half of my sample but will save it for a going out occasion.
Yesterday I also tried James Heeley Cardinal looking for the incense it got in lots of reviews – all I could find was full on ginger fizz!
Other highlight was Mancera Black intensive aoud. Both worthy of second spins.

    • Saffyishere says:

Cardinal? No incense?… I will have to try to get ginger fizz on next wearing of my decant….Won’t be for a while though….cause it is too much in 35C heat.

    • chez Marzipan says:

The Desert Rosewood sounds lovely. I really enjoy the one decant I have- Wood Infusion. It is a line worth exploring.

Interesting about the Cardinal. I had a decant six years ago and loved it so much I finished it rather quickly. It did not seem very incense-y to me either….or rather a more lighter take on incense…..when I think of incense I think of frankincense and the essential oil can come off as light and lemony almost…I wonder if that is the “ginger fizz” your nose is picking up.

    • Tess says:

Oh that’s a lovely one! I got their sample pack a couple of months ago and I think the Desert Rosewood would have to be my favourite – it’s just gorgeous.

      • Melanie says:

Tess, did you like the White Sandalwood? I’m wearing it today and i’m thinking it might beat Desert Rosewood. They are both beautiful scents xo

  35. Ingeborg says:

No scent in the morning om Tuesday! Actually didn’t put on anything before I came home. SOTE was Fendi Theorema, this one is growing on me. I’m not really friends with the initial stage, but love the basenotes in particular. Prada Candy for bedtime and a hotwater bottle to keep my feet warm. Still cold, but clear weather at least.

  36. Saffyishere says:

Well today I went to the shops, fully intent on buying sheets and towels. Oopsy!!!!!!!!! Impulse buy… Prada Le Femme L’eau, and NO LINEN.
It is on Lay by… yes old fashioned lay by still exists.

  37. Diana says:

Yesterday started with friendly Dzing! but later in the day I had to switch off to Shalimar, and it’s my scent of the day. There’s nothing like S. when one has too much drama going on.

  38. chez Marzipan says:

Good Girl Gone Bad….that just about sums me up 🙂

It reads very sweet and fruity on my skin….not what I was expecting based on the name…I like it nonetheless.

We are expecting more nasty weather….snow first, then freezing rain, then rain….which means there needs to be multiple removals of the stuff on the driveway to prevent it from turning into an ice skating rink. My arms will be sore tomorrow! on the bright side, I won’t be driving to work today!

  39. Francesca Belanger says:

It’s my birthday, so I went for something classic and vintage—just like me! Vintage Shalimar EdT. Also work is a bear at the moment, so Shalimar is both comfort and armor.

  40. Neva says:

Today I’m test driving Clive Christian No 1 from the Original Collection. First I must say, it’s all very confusing with the four different collections, the numbers and letters…it was hard to decipher which samples I got in the first place.
And now the perfume – the first burst is good old Samsara from the eighties in all its beauty, creamy sandalwood! It stays creamy and woody all the way and I only get a bit of jasmine of all the listed flowers. It is wonderful, elegant, clean, it gets powdery and sweeter. I really love it…but be careful, I’m the woman who used to wear EL Private Collection and White Linen and VC&A’s First when I was 20 years old so I may be partial to such perfumes.

    • cassieflower says:

You’re not the only one, Neva, I too love Samsara and First, but only the earlier formulations, and wore them in my 20s.

      • Neva says:

Cassieflower, you had great taste in perfume 🙂 I don’t know the recent formulations and I’m so afraid of the disappointment that I won’t even try them.

  41. cassieflower says:

In Jour Ensoleille again today. I could happily wear this for several days in a row, but my other ‘fumes might start thinking I’m being unfaithful!

  42. Saffyishere says:

Well folks, it is 2.45ish AM … Yes …you read correctly…..AM!!!! This insomnia is giving me the Heebie Jeebies big time. I’ve just had a lukewarm shower and taken a couple of valerian tablets {a desperate measure}. I have also sprayed myself ,and my bedroom with my Yardley’s Lavender, in the hope it will lull me off to sleep.

  43. Kandice says:

I wore Carnal Flower yesterday because it was cold and rainy, and I needed some sunshine. Today I’m wearing Hello Beautiful from B&BW. I wish I could afford more than a small spray sample of Carnal Flower. Then I could spray as lavishly as I do with the B&BW scents 🙂 Ah well. Maybe someday.

    • Cassieflower says:

The Carnal Flower is available In a 10ml travel spray, which is less of an outlay but still a decent amount of juice. Just sayin’😉

    • Saffyishere says:

I have been reliably informed that the Moon Bloom by Hiram Green is akin to Carnal Flower, and cheaper. In comparison to BB$BW, though your Hello Sunshine might be your cheapest ,therefore lavish spraying, out of the three.
Having said that, Kandice I also face the same dilemma…sadly 10 mls will never be enough lol.

      • Kandice says:

Thank you for the suggestion. I’ve tried Moon Bloom but didn’t find them similar even though I liked both. Also naturals like HG seem to be gone in no time on my skin. (I have the same problem with cheap scents like B&BW.) So I will just keep pining away for a FB of Carnal Flower or possibly the travel spray somewhere down the road. Really any size of CF is better than none at all!

  44. MMKinPA says:

Heure Exquise for the morning. I have a small decant and every time I wear it I think I should have more, until I look at my entire collection.

    • Saffyishere says:

I had a 3ml decant of that…..It went within a week last Winter. And yes you need a bottle…. there is nothing in your collection which comes close to Heure Equise.

  45. Tess says:

Shalimar today – after a week of cooler weather, it’s warming up and Shalimar feels perfect. Have an awesome day everyone!

  46. Earl Gray says:

Lashings of Le Couvent des Minimes Cologne of the Missions in the bath, then Mona di Orio Oud (swooon) on the wrists to get me through some snowy weather.
Now wearing Frapin Caravelle Epices…which is nice…but that line really suffers from some sameyness IMHO. Trying to step back and judge it on its own merits!

  47. Anna Maria says:

Warm here in sydney and still wearing my O de Lancome! I always look forward to reading all the comments on APJ as I learn so much in my pyjamas with a lady Grey tea! Now to get ready for work and I will wear Stash SJP and Santal 33 body lotion, that should sustain me for the next 10 hours…

  48. Saffyishere says:

Good morning all…. I woke up to my doorbell ringing at 9.10am… yippee perfume package!! Contained within were empty bottles for me to add to my display…AND….. oh me oh my….a 5ml decant of 2003 Opium, as well as 2 vintage bottles with fume left inside .Both splash bottles…..Paris circa 1993ish and Oscar de la Renta, in a ‘squat flower/cloud’ shape.
THANK YOU SO MUCH , Indigo.
I’m simply sniffing these bottles, atm but no decision re my SOTD yet.

    • Diana says:

Wow, what a nice way to start a day! Lovely purchases, Saffy!

    • Neva says:

How exciting! Now you’ve got a nice occupation the whole day long. You reminded me that I have two mini bottles of Opium and Oscar de la Renta from the eighties. They are at my mother’s house. I think I’ll drive over today and have a sniff from the empty bottles. It’ll be worth it.
      Enjoy your new babies.

  49. Melanie says:

I’m wearing Goldfield & Banks White Sandalwood. its beautiful. lovely sandalwood and a little rose. its very smooth and sexy. i’m super impressed with this brands staying power. Yet to try the Woods Infusion – maybe tomorrow.

  50. Saffyishere says:

I am wearing Cherry Blossom.. Body Shop body lotion, and L’Occitaine EDT. Some days one just needs something ‘soft’.

  51. chez Marzipan says:

Foin Fraichement Coup… this is a powder bomb on my skin!

  52. australianperfumejunkies says:

    Hey Crew,
I’ve been a bit absent this week but today I’m wearing L’Artisan Mimosa Pour Moi. It’s softly plastic and cool room vibe is doing wonders with the heat.
    Portia xx

    • Diana says:

I hope you’re doing fine, Portia! Haven’t tried that mimosa but after reading your brief yet colourful descriptopn I want to! XX

      • Diana says:

*description! Why do I make so many typos when I’m on APJ site? I must way too excited, lol!

      • australianperfumejunkies says:

HA! Nope, I think In create the culture of misspelling. Sorry.
        Yeah, doing fine here Diana.
        Portia xx

  53. Neva says:

Today again Clive Christian – Original Collection 1872 feminine (there’s obviously also a masculine). Lovely fresh herbal citrus that never gets sharp but feels cozy and warm. Probably because the flower bouquet (I can smell only the rose) which is well blended immediately joins the composition and softens it. A bit later the woody notes come in and then it becomes a beautiful skin scent for the rest of the day. It is not very original…but maybe it is THE original because the formula is the same since 1872, they say.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hey Neva,
Maybe it is the original? I’m not sure how much perfume copy I believe anymore though.
Doesn’t matter if it smells fabulous.
      Portia xx

  54. Francesca Belanger says:

Often when I’m in a rush and/or having trouble deciding what to wear, I reach for my bottle of vintage Lénthéric Tweed cologne. So that’s my SOTD. It was my mother’s favorite when I was very little, so it has nice memories associated.

  55. Kandice says:

I’m wearing Alien today. If I dab this very lightly, I can wear it. Unlike Angel which I can’t wear in any concentration without getting a terrible headache. I have a large sample of Alien. And while it’s pretty I don’t think I’d ever buy more just because I hate having to be so careful when wearing perfume.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

Do you ever perfume the backs of your legs/knees? Sometimes with the BIG frags a spritz all the way down there is far enough to cut the heft.
      Portia xx

      • Kandice says:

I haven’t ever tried that, Portia, but that’s an excellent idea! I will give that a shot and see if it helps ward off some of the headaches. You are a lifesaver 🙂

      • chez Marzipan says:

Or tops of the feet which is even further away from the nose (unless you are in a yogic forward fold 🙂 )

    • cassieflower says:

I have a problem with Dior Addict in that I get a fit of sneezes and runny eyes. I try one spray on the back of my neck every now and then to see if my body will tolerate it.

  56. Diana says:

Baccarat Rouge 540, strawberries soaked in iodine, – I’d never thought I’d love something like this but I do!

  57. Melanie says:

Mancera Black intensive aoud, and a few sprays Montale Black Oud for me today. The Mancera is super – sandalwood, amber and oud (of course) its soft but it smells awesome on my skin. Will use up all my little sample today for sure. Another super hot day here – its early and i’m already over it. Hurry up cool change 🙂

  58. Saffyishere says:

I’d like to report that Saffy is a VERY happy camper this morning!!!!!! I slept. In fact I slept for 6 glorious hours and I’m so grateful. Anyway yesterday I received a package of mostly empty bottles to add to my display, from Indigo. Two bottles still contained liquid…one is a vintage Oscar de la Renta in a squat/ cloud shape, the other is Paris in it’s original round bottle with the black lid. I have the bottle of Paris sitting on my kitchen table,{Approx.10 metres away from where I’m sitting}, and it is wafting glorious bright rose as it is ‘aired’. I will not be wearing it is too precious to be worn to work. I’ve yet to choose my SOTD

  59. Tess says:

I’m test-driving Drops of Me by Neotantric, which I got from the lovely folks at Libertine. Loving it – so pretty and feminine!

  60. Jyotsna’ says:

I am wearing chergui. Again. I am sooo ready for the weekend.

  61. Neva says:

Testing another two samples from Clive Christian. This time it’s the Noble Collection in black bottles. On my left wrist – Cosmos Flower…omg, a fruity floral which reminds me of all the Lady Millions, Petite Robe Noirs out there. It’s a genre I dislike although I know there are many fans of it. The sticky berry note (although it’s supposed to be plum) is killing me with its sweetness.
On my right wrist – Rock Rose…definitely a fougere. The lavender you can smell only shortly in the opening, otherwise it smells woody and resinous, very rounded. I wouldn’t mind my best friend wearing it when we’re together.
I’m a bit disappointed today. I’m gonna wash it all off and put on something that really pleases me.

  62. chez Marzipan says:

keeping it simple and fun on this Friday morning with Demeter Ginger Cookie. So happy it is Friday!!!

    • crikey says:

How does it smell? Is it a sort of ginger nut type of fiery sweet ginger, or a lebkuchen type of ginger cookie, with more cinnamon-clove-nutmeg type of spices on top?

      • chez Marzipan says:

very heavy on the clove…and sweet…(which works for me!)…leibkuchen is a good comparison (and now you have me wanting one to eat-LOL!)….it reminds me a bit of Pacifica’s Tibetan Mountain Temple (which I adore!) but TMT has vetiver and patchouli so it is more earthy but also has that sweet gingerbreadiness in the background….the Demeter has lasted an extraordinarily long time…I put it on quite early (one spray) and could still smell it in the late afternoon. Most Demeters don’t last as long on my scent eating skin.

      • crikey says:

Oh! Thanks for the description. I might have to stick my beak into some of that. Ginger and cloves is a lovely combo.

  63. Saffyishere says:

I wore my hubby’s Grey Flannel to work….it was soothing and I had a compliment from a daughter of a resident I was caring for. Home now… Dencorub on my back, Neroli 36 on my neck chest and wrists.
Watching to Opening of the Winter Olympic Games.

    • Diana says:

Lovely choice, Saffy! I like Grey Flannel a lot. Is yours a modern formulation?

      • Saffyishere says:

Yes a modern formulation. It was funny because my hubby wasn’t very happy I was wearing it. Quote; ‘It’s
a boy’s smell. You have 175 girl’s smells to choose. Us boys only have 12 !!!’
I informed him that I will buy myself a bottle, and he became even more miffed lol

      • chez Marzipan says:

        YOu’re husband is adorable 🙂

I wore Grey Flannel in the early 1980s and thought I was such a rule breaker back then for wearing it-LOL!

      • Diana says:

Saffy, your husband seems to be so much fun! Yeah, we take and we take and we take: GF, Chanel for men, Givenchys (frankly, I like what they do for men much more than the rest).
I’ll be getting a full big bottle, as well. Love that greenish violet.

  64. Diana says:

I’ve been wearing lots of Angel since last night. It rained and rained, and I decided to express my protest again the weather condiions 🙂

I got three packages with some perfume goods, yay! I predict it’ll be really difficult for me to choose one SOTD for some time, but that’s always great to have a choice, isn’t it?

Wish you all a nice weekend!

    • Saffyishere says:

Can you give us a clue re what was contained in these packages, please?

      • Diana says:

I’m more than eager to say what was in the boxes 🙂 I finally bought Calligraphy Rose, – it’s a blind-buy and I’m going to let it rest for a while (so far I’m not that impressed), a backup bottle of Cuir de Lancome and 3 dozens of different perfume vials from a new friend I met on FB! There’s Daim Blond and a couple other Lutenses, nine different vetivers, samples of colognes, a few L’Artisans… And today I got a present from dearest Portia! I’m in heaven and can’t wait to try them all, just waiting for my migraine to go away.

    • Jyotsna’ says:

oooh. Perfume packages! Can you share what your new fragrances are?

    • Cassieflower says:

So that’s your whole weekend taken care of then. An embarrassment of riches.😺

  65. VerbenaLuvvr says:

A post about ELDO “Remarkable People” in an online fragrance group to which I belong inspired me to dig out my bottle and give it a wear today. Cozy cardamom scents are just so lovely in sweater weather.

  66. Melanie says:

Perry Ellis Oud on left arm, Heeley Cardinal for the right. PE all spicy, manly, leather and cedar. But soft. I’m getting more of the sweet incense today from Cardinal. I’ve got more on than last try. There’s something in it which makes me think fizz. It’s has some sweetness but then next sniff all serious pepper and patchouli. It’s very interesting.

  67. Ingeborg says:

I wore amber perfume again for work, coming home this evening I put on a lot of Tauer Amber Flash scented body oil. I find it does wonders for my dry and itchy skin, I have forgotten to use body lotion for a few days, so will need to make an effort to rehydrate the skin. I’m fragrant, but will find some warm scent to add before bed, Casmir (spelling?) perhaps?

  68. Jyotsna’ says:

Shalimar Vintage today. Relaxing into the afternoon with a murder mystery. And tea. mmm perfect.

  69. chez Marzipan says:

MFK APOM Pour Homme…testing for the first time…for some odd reason it smells like floral cigarettes to my wonky nose.

  70. Diana says:

Wearing Rouge by Hermes today. One of must-haves.

  71. Ingeborg says:

The Saturday Question inspired me to wear Korres White Tea Bergamot Freesia. A pretty and light floral, not quite in tune with the weather! It’s snowing lightly but steadily since last evening. Unfortunately the snow is rather wet, at least down here in the city center. Will be wearing something warmer or spicy later in the evening.

  72. Cassieflower says:

EL Jasmine White Moss this evening after a good trudge in the rain by the canal. Cassie decided that swimming season has arrived, despite very low temperatures 😬 But she had a nice warm shower when we got home and is now toasting in front of the fire. A total dog’s life round this house. An afternoon of rugby and Winter Olympics. I’m not setting foot outside again today.

  73. MMKinPA says:

Warmed up a little so I grabbed my Sonoma Scent Studio Bee’s Bliss. Trying to summon spring!

  74. Saffyishere says:

Got a cuppa in hand? I have a story to tell; may be longish post
You all know by now I work in a nursing home, where many people I care for are elderly with many forms of dementia. Other ‘residents’…{ yes I’m aware of the awful term } are razor sharp in mind, but their bodies have let them down. One such lady is Thelma. I’ve not had much contact with Thelma since Christmas, because she moved to another wing of the Home. Her partner moved in too… along with Thelma’s perfume collection!!
    And woweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee… what a collection!!
There are 5 bottles. They seem to be have used lightly, with perhaps only 10 mls missing from each.
Curious to know the fumes? I bet you are!!!
Tweed by Lentheric…..a dinted old tin bottle
    Versace Bright Crystal
Ma Griffe….. really old…..the box is falling apart, and this is the perfume which has been used most… possibly because it’s the oldest. Thelma told me she received it as a birthday gift from her parents ‘probably in the late fifties’
    CKIN2U…..When I pick out this ,Thelma states matter of factly…I just bought it because of the bottle…. I don’t really like the smell {lol ..we’ve all been there}
Bal A Versailles…….Yes the glorious gorgeous Bal A Versailles…..Oh and in a beautifully presented tall bottle. OMG this is resplendent!! I had to have a spritz!!
Thelma saw my joy/ excitement, and gave her permission to spray.
I was so nervous I might drop the bottle ,so I sat on her bed and sprayed , some on her first, then the top of my left hand.
For the next 2 hours at work I was transfixed, as I went about attending to my duties, I kept smelling my hand.
So now I have moved Bal A Versaille up a few notches on my ‘ want ‘ list.
Sunday SOTD yet to be chosen.

  75. chez Marzipan says:

Sunday morning and test driving Ed Hardy EDP

  76. Jyotsna’ says:

Sunday night here. More lavendar oil tonight. Hope to get a decent night’s sleep. G’night, everyone xx

  77. cassieflower says:

Ralph Lauren Style today. A quiet white floral, but I find it more rosy, in the style of Kelly Caleche. It’s puffing away quite nicely here in the cold. Had a rain/hail/snow shower earlier and it’s sunny again now. The weather is totally bonkers this winter.

  78. Ingeborg says:

Had to do some chores, so started the day spraying liberal amounts of L’Occitaine Grapefruit Rhubarb. Putting on something warmer now in the evening,Prada Candy, possibly my sweetest scent. I love the note of slightly burnt caramel.

Proud of myself for not making use of any of the Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day offers online to spoil myself.

Fresh buns which is a tradition even for those of us not observing Lent. A big vase of imported (Dutch?)tulips and watching a re-run of the earlier x-country ski race from the Olympics, a good Sunday!

  79. Diana says:

I finished this week with vintage eau de cologne of Mitsouko. I love that girl, and always will!
