Recently I ordered from First In Fragrance and they sent me a few fabulous samples to blog about and giveaway. I wrote recently about Melodie Du Cygne De La Main from the Haute Perfumery line. Now I’d like to introduce you to the daligramme line a further, more affordable, extension of the Dali Haute Parfumerie.

From Dali Haute Parfumerie Paris: Larger than life and extravagant couple’s legend, Gala and Salvador Dali devoted themselves an exclusive and unconditional love. This Collection of rare fragrances is inspired by the Daligrams. A lover’s secret alphabet created and dedicated by Salvador Dali to Gala, to symbolize their symbiotic love.

Ma Flame Daligramme. A verdant rose, touched by the bittersweet combination of absinth and amber and undercut by animalics.

Ma Force Daligramme. Dry pepper & resin open tempered by flowers and given depth and enchantment by warm, woodsy oud. Almost a cliche but manages to skirt the edges. This is my favourite.

Ma Muse Daligramme: A powdery green floral with white flowers and almonds that will take you by surprise, consequently there’s something captivating and more-ish about it.

Ma Riene Daligramme. Red peppers, white flowers and iris sparkle prettily over a soft focus vanilla base. Another in a long line of similar but smoothly executed.

Ma Vie Daligramme.  Boozy roses and patchouli with a cold, dew damp lily. Due to the introduction of the lily we now have a really interesting fragrance that feels slightly uncomfortable.

  1. It’s be a pleasure to try these… Dali Purplelight is one of my springtime favourites.
    My favourite Dali is the Rose Meditative. Most of his paintings make me feel rather anxious, but the rose is beautiful in its glowing simplicity.

    I always liked that big Crucifixion of his. Not because I’m religious, but because I always thought that bird’s-eye-view perspective was so interesting. I guess I’m a bit bored with “Persistence of Memory,” but it’s not Dali’s fault it’s become such a cliché.
    I’m curious about the fragrances.

  5. I follow via email and Facebook. I love Dali! I’ve wanted to try these. I have a Dali print in my guest bedroom/mediation room. It is Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee around a Pomegranate a Second before Waking. Hands down, my fave!

  6. I have to agree with Morrigan. I’m not a fan of Dali overall, so if I had to choose one of his paintings it would be Rose Meditative. It’s the only one of his I could ever see hanging in my home. I would however love a chance to try the perfumes. I follow via email.

  7. The most fantastic giveaway ever, posh Portia! I am a massive fan of Dali! Thanks for the opportunity to win this mind-blowing prize! I follow APJ via email. I love Dali’s Christ of Saint John of the Cross painting. The extreme angle Christ is positioned and the dark floating skies surrounding Him is absolutely unforgettable! The fact that the painting is devoid of blood, nails and a crown of thorns reminds me that we all bear crosses everyday and even though there’s often no blood, nails, or a crown of thorns visible it doesn’t mean we are not suffering. My all time favorite Salvador Dali quote is: “Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings.” A brilliant, brilliant man, Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech, Marquis of Dalí de Púbol.

  8. The classic “Persistence of Memory” is up there. Years ago when I lived in England I would go to the Marriott in London and right next to it, sort of behind it was a Dali exhibit as I recall. I think it was The Dali Universe. I loved the Lobster Telephone. The whole museum, the sculpture was fantastic. I love the humor, whimsy and irony in his work.
    Oddly, the Ma Muse Dalligramme which normally would not be my thing sounds interesting and pretty.

  11. I follow by email. I like Girl at the Window and Christ of Saint John of the Cross. I’ve always thought Dali was playing and having fun with his viewers, which is probably why I like the more realistic of his paintings. Even those,however, often have the viewer looking from a different perspective. Wonderful giveaway. Thank you.

  12. I really like Dali’s art and have bought some posters of his famous pictures. Actually I’m a fan of Persistence of Time because of the image of the melting clock representing the inexorable passing of time. I also like his sculptures of the melting clock and I dream of buying one some day…but then I’d have to stop buying perfume for a while…sigh.

    • I’m with you on those meeting clock! I think, if I saw a well-made sculpture I would have sacrificed my half-year perfumes budget. Luckily for my hobby, all I saw so far was “Made in China” in the worst of meaning.

  13. Dali has always been a love-hate. My dad really influenced my taste in art and he always had a low opinion of Dali – he was a bit of a jerk apparently. But I always liked the surrealists and when his work was shown at the NGV a few years ago I went and really loved the exhibition. His work was so meticulous especially his small-scale paintings. A lot of technical expertise which I know doesn’t sound exciting but I like to see it.

  14. Hello I trawl after you via facebook and email. I admit I’m not overly up to date re Dali’s paintings. However ,after I applied Google to do it’s magic I found a website page which had a few images. And weirdly complex paintings were shown.
    One which I’m going to read about is something called Optical illusion of a skull.
    It is so scary and confronting, I’m instantly drawn to it and taken aback simultaneously. Thanks for the draw.. of the 5 scents described, I think Force or Ma Vie take my interest.

  16. I’ve actually been to the Dali museum in St, Petersburg, FL, and I was surprised by how many of his paintings DID speak to me. And the scale! Like many other folks here, Christ of St. John of the Cross was a favorite – so much to find in one painting, I could study it for a lifetime. The Hallucinogenic Toreador would be a close runner up.   17. I’d love to try these. I’ve got a full bottle of Dali for Women, and also samples of Purple Lips, which is pretty. I really like Rose Meditative – the colours are just so lush in that and it just looks peaceful. Following by email.

  18. I follow on WordPress! I like Dali’s Apparition of the Visage of Aphrodite, which also inspired some of the bottles for his perfumes. I think the bottles for Laguna and Salvador Dali are just beautiful.

  19. I have only ever seen Dali images or reproductions in books- sadface. The Swallow’s Tail which is his last artwork is my favourite . I have always been intrigued by Thom’s catastrophes.

    These fragrances sound very Dali- Ma Flame and Ma Vie are definite to-samples. Dali’s Galatea of the Spheres is another painting I love.

    The Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus is powerful for me and demonstrates Dali’s seemingly unlimited skills. I get lost in it examining tender beauty, abundance and exaltation. Perceptions of Innocence and whitewashed hopes and dreams. A peaceful heavenly view of a conquered land. Most of all I’m in thrall of his treatment of fabrics which I think steals the show.
    I enjoy wondering what kind of tribute to Dali the craftsmen of these potions have bestowed upon the lucky wearers and there will no doubt be a paradox to explore.

  21. I follow via email & FB. The Meditative Rose is my favourite Dali painting – the Rose is so realistic and fresh looking you can almost smell it, and I love the way it is placed floating in a blue sky over a desolute land.

  22. I follow via email and facebook. My favourite and most memorable painting by Dali is Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee… First saw the reproduction in some culture magazine when I was about 6 years old and it impressed me so much. It was disturbing and attracting at the same time.

    I like many of the paintings others mentioned but since I do not have any single one that I like more than others, I’ll name the one that I like, which hasn’t been mentioned yet: Gala Contemplating the Mediterranean Sea. I saw it at the Vienna Dalí museum – and probably because of that I feel a better connection to it.

    I used to like Dali when I was kid but then my attitude towards him and his art has changed drastically. However, there is one of his earlier paintings that I still find quite remarkable: Figure at a window, his sister’s portrait. It’s simple and true. Not that I don’t like a little (or a lot) fantasy, it’s just that I stopped liking Dali’s way of expressing his dreams & desires and whatnot.

  26. I’m not a big fan of Dali’s paintings, but one I enjoy is the melting watch. Of the perfumes it is hard to tell which ones would be pleasant to my nose. They sound interesting, yet wearable. I follow via email.
