SOTD 12 February – 18 February 2018

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 12 February – 18 February 2018

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:

  1. Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur EdP
  2. Parfum d’Empire Fougere Bengale
  3. L’Artisan Seville a l’Aube
  4. Lolita Lempicka EdP
  5. Rouge d’Hermès

Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, will draw on Sunday.

Last Weeks WINNER: Cassieflower

  1. chez Marzipan says:

Testing Lace Garden (Teo Cabanel)…to my memory this smells EXACTLY like vintage Coty’s Sand and Sables… inexpensive drugstore masterpiece…wore it to death in the early 90s….which goes to show that inexpensive beauties can indeed compete with niche and luxury brands 🙂

Hope everyone has/had a good Monday!

  2. JH says:

After heavy snow in the past couple of days there’s finally some sunshine here in Paris! I’m happily wearing Mme de Nicolaï’s Vanille Tonka, which I bought two days ago along with their latest Cap Néroli!

  3. Gina says:

Today, I am in the lovely Stargazer by Yosh.

  4. Shiva-Woman says:

Today I’m going forAreej le Dore Oud Picante–trying to squeeze a bit more out of Winter. Thanks for the giveaway! I follow by email.

  5. Cassieflower says:

Oh wow! Me again☺️ I forgot to add DNEM last week but am thrilled to win. Thank you so much, Portia. Exclude me from this week’s draw please. Today’s perfume is TF Jasmine Rouge, a pretty rather than a vampy jasmine.

  6. VerbenaLuvvr says:

Since I am giving up sweets for Lent, I am substituting with gourmands and starting early. Choco Musk by Al Rehab today. :).

  7. AnnieA says:

Cartier Zeste de Soleil on a sunny day.

  8. Earl Gray says:

Scent of the evening: Bulgari Black. A soft, simple pleasure.

Had a chance to spritz some Volutes EDP whilst in town at the weekend and still swooning over the memory of that…mmmm.

  9. Diana says:

Chant d’Aromes. I remember not being won over when I first tried it but since that time it’s become one of my biggest favourites.

  10. Tess says:

Une Amourette – day three of a heatwave here in Qld and it’s already stupid hot and disgustingly humid. This is so lovely and fresh smelling – perfect for this sort of weather.

  11. Fazal Cheema says:

My SOTD is Rose Anonyme. It is my first wearing and I am double-minded about it. It is a tad sweeter than what I would have preferred.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

I really like Rose Anonyme Fazal, it hits a spot for me.
      Portia xx

      • Fazal Cheema says:

It is good. I think I would have preferred the sweetness to be a tad lower and the freshness to be a little higher. I guess I might have wanted it to be a little more effervescent.

  12. Cassieflower says:

I just have to share my good news with you all. I scored a job lot of vintage perfume on eBay just now. Didn’t spend too much either. I’m having a very happy Monday indeed😀

  13. Saffyishere says:

Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, Cassieflower. You’re the Winner this week.!! I thought of you yesterday when I looked at my Stash
Anyway ,yesterday , Monday, I woke and there were still very slight traces left on my hand from Thelma’s Bal A Versailles. Monday Sloth Day had arrived again, so I decided it was also a great day to do some sampling. Four scents were given a workout.
They were; 31 Rue Cambon by Chanel
    ; Bodhi by Teone Reinthal
    ; L’ether by IUNX
    ; Paloma by Rance
And the scrubber/s were; The Chanel and Rance scents, the Teone goes onto the “wouldn’t mind” and the L’Ether to the ‘use it up but not bottle worthy list’
Tuesday has arrived, and it is nearly 9am, so time to get off my big fat cohuna and get ready for the day. The Commonwealth Games Baton is coming through Ballarat today ,so thought I’d take a gander. Have an enjoyable Tuesday ,all.

  14. Melanie says:

    L’artisan Voluer Roses today.
Yesterday Molinard Habanita, last night some Montale Vanilla Absolu.
    Congrats Cassieflower on your wins

  15. MMKinPA says:

Hiram Green Shangri La today from a sample. This just might be my favorite Hiram Green. I had high hopes for Slowdive but my first sampling was straight up honey, not much else. Despite having a generous dose of peach which is sometimes a deal breaker, I really like Shangri La!

  16. Jyotsna’ says:

Anais anais edt. Need softness today.

    • Neva says:

Wow! The old or the new version. Haven’t tried it since the eighties.

      • Jyotsna says:

Old. An old teasure.. One of my first ‘this is me’ fragrances A gift from my mum. Before that I mostly- umm -shared (😁) hers.

I love the old one. I got a bunch of them as gifts. I keep meaning to get the new one but…

      • Neva says:

Oh, how beautiful! No need to try the new one. I’ve kept only empty bottles of Anais Anais (the white and the transparent) from the eighties, but my brain remebers the perfume well enough to dismiss the new version as – wrong. I envy you a little bit. If I knew back then what was going to happen with the reformulations, I’d have kept full bottles instead of empty ones.

    • cassieflower says:

Lucky you with the older version of Anais Anais. This reminds me of my mother.

  17. Kathleen Smith says:

Today I wore Serge Lutens Fluers D’Orangeur. Long lasting and always surprises me how wonderful it smells.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

Norah by Bulgari decant today. I’m liking it but not going crazy for it. Seems to sink into my skin and become almost undetectable within 15 minutes.
      Portia xx

    • Jyotsna’ says:

Kathleen – mmm you smell gorgeous. I so adore fleurs d’oranger.

  18. Jackie b says:

Today I got Clarins Eau Ressourcant gift with some skincare, so splashed it all over myself. Quite nice, a bit herbal but I wanted to butch it up so added L’Erbolario Vetiver de Reunion….so much better!
    Whoda thought?

  19. Neva says:

Today, just like yesterday, I’m wearing Neela Vermeire’s Trayee from a sample. I just can’t get enough of this sweet spicy incensey beauty. It suits the cold weather perfectly.

  20. Esz says:

Today I wore Desert Rosewood. Cos slightly cooler weather is good for this one. I doused myself liberally – not that it needs it.

When I got home I sprayed on my winnings, Orion Nebula. So interesting.

At Chemist Warehouse I had put on some random $4 “Intense Musk” cheapie sitting at the bottom of the shelf of frags that are so cheap they’re not even locked away. Proper 70s dirty animalic musk.

And then cos I was watching Peps video on Pacific Rock Moss I put a bit of my sample on and now I want a full bottle of that too. What a day!

  21. chez Marzipan says:

Smelling like a cararmelized banana in the best possible way …..testing Hermessence Vaniila Gallante…pretty sure this one is discontinued.

    • chez Marzipan says:

Well, after a smidgen of research I see it has been compared to Coty’s Vanilla Fields so that explains why I like it…Vanilla Fields was another cheapy but goody I wore in the early 90s. Also have come to find that the ylang ylang is creating that “banana” accord.

    • australianperfumejunkies says:

      Hey there CM,
I love Vanille Galant. It is much more lily-isa on me than you by the sounds of it and is like sweet and green in a stand off. Subtly weird and gorgeous.
      I’m on my 2nd 15ml
      Portia xx

      • chez Marzipan says:

For some odd reason my skin always amps up the sweetness of fragrances (perhaps it is all that naughty sugar coursing through my veins-LOL!). Not surprised at all that you are on a second travel bottle….it’s a beauty!

    • Jyotsna’ says:

Nothing makes me as hungry as reading about your scents, CM! Caramalised bananas. Yumm. I should make crepes for breakfast tomorrow.

    • Saffyishere says:

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.. not very appealing to me…I’m not keen on smelling like a banana.

  22. Jyotsna’ says:

I need a clutch of good bedtime fragrances. Weeks of smelling of eucalytpus and mebthol oil has me craving something uplifting.

  23. MMKinPA says:

More Shangri La. Such a surprising love for me… I think I have finally learned to love chypres. And then – horrors – I dropped the open sample vial. So I now have a lovely scented hankie. I think it’s a sign that I need to buy a travel size!

  24. JH says:

Tuesday wearing: ELdO Rien Intense Incense, a stark contrast with yesterday’s subtle and soft Vanille Tonka. I’ve been wanting a bottle of Rien Intense and the Paris store finally restocked after two months.

  25. VerbenaLuvvr says:

Ripped into my Luckyscent sample order received today and it is Byredo Velvet Haze on one arm and Pilar and Lucy To twirl all girly on the other. Not sure either is fb worthy to me, but still enjoying the temporary scent cloud.

  26. cassieflower says:

Started out with Jasmine White Moss, but then picked up an order in the P.O. and of course could not wait to try. So now from my right wrist I’m wafting YSL Champagne. Oh this is just gorgeous. I won’t go mad with it though, as I only got a decant so I’ll enjoy it in moderation while I can.

  27. Diana says:

Comme des Garcons 2 Man and Prada Infusion d’Iris combo. Incense, vetiver and iris is exactly what I needed today!

  28. Tess says:

White Gardenia Petals today – super pretty!

  29. Melanie says:

Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille for me today. Used up the last of my decant and i’m seriously considering a FB.

  30. Jyotsna says:

Crazy winds today. Still dry and stiffling. Am wearing Parfum de Maroc.

    • Saffyishere says:

How did you go with your job hunting? When the wind dropped turned into a very pleasant day
Yes $30 for 100ml of Stash is correct.

      • Jyotsna says:

Job hunting is blech. Wish there was stuff other than govt here. Hopefully some of the places will start short-listing & interviewing soon.
At least I can afford to smell amazing with Stash at $30/100ml.

  31. Shiva-woman says:

Today felt like a honey-spring kind of day, so it was Hiram Green’s Deep Dive.
Shiva-woman recently posted…Slowdive by Hiram Green 2017My Profile

  32. Shiva-woman says:

Oops. Slow Dive. It was deep as well, but slow. Hate the ‘puter and my fingers sometimes.

  33. Jyotsna says:

And now I wear hot coffee with my parfum de maroc. I just barked out a mouthful of my drink when I read Katie Couric’s comments on the Dutch skaters. Actually it was the clever twitter responses that got me.

  34. Saffyishere says:

Went for a drive to Daylesford. Wore Study #17. I got home and I felt like I wanted something floral /or sweet.
    So it is Miracle

  35. Jyotsna says:

Am wearing vicco tumeric cream. Heavy sandalwood.

A question for my fellow-Aussie APJers- could you share some of your favourite places to buy perfume, please- online, fb groups and real? Sample, decants, discounted but good stuff.
I know CW and priceline. Luckyscent. What else should be on my one-click buy list 😄
(Portia- I hope it’s okay to ask this here)
    Thanks xx

    • Saffyishere says:

Sweet Fern, Ballarat, Lore, Brunswick Street
Peony , Hawthorn East A new Byredo store… think in Coburg, but I’m not certain.
Mecca and Sephora, Myer and David Jones and finally, Men’s Biz…..all STORES Fragrancenet, FragranceX, Feeling sexy{yes stupid name } Surrender to Chance, The Perfumed Court all are ONLINE.
A wonderful site to buy minis is the MiniturePerfumeShoppe, based in Houston, Texas.

      Hope this helps.

  36. chez Marzipan says:

    Rozy EDP

    • Jyotsna says:

CM- Vero Profumo? I have heard the most delightful things about this one.

      • chez Marzipan says:

YES! First time wearing it…not sure what to make of it…will definitely give it another whirl sometime down the road. I believe that the different formulations smell slightly different if I am not mistaken.

  37. Neva says:

Wearing Gabrielle from Chanel. Spritzed myself in a parfumery on my way to a coffee break. It reminds me of all the Chanel Chances a lot, maybe a bit more mature.

  38. MMKinPA says:

On a Hiram Green kick – sampling Moon Bloom. It’s a lovely tuberose but I’m just not sure I need tuberose, compared to the Shangri La. I wonder how long I’ll be able to hold out before buying that one….

    • Cassieflower says:

It’s great that they offer 10ml bottles.

    • chez Marzipan says:

My favorite of Hiram Green is Voyage…my nose hones in immediately on the lavender absolute which creates that suede accord. i have sampled all from the line except for Slowdive and find that there is a striking similarity to all of them.

      • Maya says:

I also love HG Voyage – from the first moment I sniffed it. It hit me with the feeling of being reminded of something from long ago that I had forgotten. It was strange, but very very nice and only happened the first time I sniffed it. Another lifetime maybe? 😉

  39. Saffyishere says:

I can feel the ‘change’ of Seasons.. it is ‘crisp’ this morning, and still, yet glorious bright sunshine.
I’m going to drain my decant of Penhaligon’s The Coveted Countess Rose. I love it , and it is FB worthy. However the price is prohibitive.

    • Jyotsna says:

Oh you smell lovely. Yes, the weather has changed. Cold when I woke up.
I want sooo many Penhaligon’s, it’s not funny.
      Have a lovely day xx

  40. Melanie says:

Balmains Ambre Gris today for me – love it!!
Heading back home tonight for two sleeps after one lot of housesitting and then starting another week away – have some Evocative Perfume (Mark Evans) samples waiting for me – hurry up home time!

  41. Jyotsna says:

Wearing my favourite Fleurs d’Oranger today💕. I smell like a goddess.

  42. australianperfumejunkies says:

    Vintage Miss Dior EdC
    Portia xx

  43. crikey says:

Mito VdP today, but it’s being shy. I think this must just be the cold weather, and my cold skin, and I’m hoping it will unravel and come out to play a little more.

Yesterday: SL Fourreau Noir, for easy, non-distraction. I love the balance of this on me, with the harder edges and the pillowy depths of the tonka.
Tuesday: In the evening, Le Mat, the Mendittorosa/Talisman’s warm and spicy immortelle-rose-patchouli-nutmeggy goodness, just what I needed after a brutal migraine.
Monday: Bapteme du Feu. Orange peel and gunpowder and cloves (and, unusually for me, I got a good slice of ginger in the first hour.) This scent horrifies one of my colleagues, who can’t understand why I’d want to wear anything that wasn’t “fresh” or flowery.

  44. chez Marzipan says:

Before winter disappears testing out Siberian Snow.

  45. Neva says:

Finally sunshine after many gray days. I feel alive again, so it’s MFK’s Aqua Vitae today. A clean fresh perfume fit for a celebration.

  46. Diana says:

Armani Prive Bois d’encens for today. I love it, my only regret is its fleeting nature.

  47. MMKinPA says:

Back to iris, Atelier Iris Rebelle. Snagged a travel spray at Sephora. Not totally in love but I do like woody iris, can wear it to work. Will do some sampling later today because this will definitely be gone in a few hours.

  48. Saffyishere says:

Last night I sprayed myself with Diorissimo edt prior to bed. Now at 9amish, I still smell traces of it. I’m not working until 4pm today, so thinking I can sample something this morning, have a shower ,then apply something from my full bottles.
    so the sample/s today are;
left wrist. Evelyn’s Rose and right wrist.. Imogen. Both are by Evocative Perfumes/ Will get back to you later today to inform of my ‘going to work’ scent.

  49. Jyotsna says:

Last night I tried some more Fleur Narcotique. Was so soft and lovely this morning.
I’m a bit grumpy here so not sure what to try today.
Hope everyone else is having a great day. xx

  50. Melanie says:

Mancera Roses Vanille for me – insert happy dance!

  51. Saffyishere says:

Showered and work ready…..In vintage Alliage

  52. chez Marzipan says:

    Leilani Bishop Lilac Oil

  53. crikey says:

    Dryad. And plenty of it.

  54. MMKinPA says:

It’s rsining. My doctor has forbidden coffee temporarily. I’m wearing Apres l’Ondee (new version, sadly, but who can afford the vintage)?

  55. VerbenaLuvvr says:

Just finished organizing my collection and starting to list for sale some that I’ve fallen out of love with, life is too short to wear only stuff that’s just ok. I decided to give Lavanila Coconut one final wear before letting it go.

  56. Saffyishere says:

It is 4AM… I’ve been awake since 2. 30 AM….Insomnia brought on by a ‘bad dream’ as well as back pain. Whilst trying to calm myself I’m playing on my computer. Have sprayed some Jessica Simpson Fancy.

  57. Cassieflower says:

Today was lashings of Donna Karan Gold.

  58. Lillibet says:

Left the house wearing CdG Kyoto but couldn’t resist a solid spritz of Tonka Imperiale as I passed the Guerlain counter in Myer this morning. They go surprisingly well together although the Guerlain definitely has the edge sillage-wise.

  59. chez Marzipan says:

Kelly Caleche…first time sampling…this is lovely.

  60. crikey says:

Tears of Eros, and today it seems to be *all* about the hyacinth, with very little of the incense, and the orange is sneaking in and out like a nervous cat.

    • Saffyishere says:

The scent you describe is interesting. Do you own a bottle or is this a sample? I’ve not heard of Tears of Eros.

      • crikey says:

I have a bottle of this. It’s one of Paul Schütze’s first three perfumes that were released in 2016. It really works for me, and I find it interesting as well as lovely. But I know that a lot of people have very mixed feelings about it.

(I have the 7.5ml tester box bottles of his other two–the damp resiny vetiver of Behind the Rain which still keeps making me consider a bottle, but then changing my mind, and Cirebon which is the orangest orange of any juicy orange I’ve got, but is more of a smell than a perfume.)

  61. Diana says:

Givenchy Very Irresistible for men. Damn, I wish I didn’t like it as much as I do! A friend sent me a decant, and I hoped that it would be different from how I’ve remembered it. It’s not: this hot mess of mint, chocolate and something fresh drives me mad!

  62. Cassieflower says:

My recently acquired vintage Opium Parfum. ❤️ This is the real deal folks! I smell fabulous and I don’t care what anyone else thinks😉.

  63. Diana says:

Am listening to You Go To My Head on repeat and trying new frags by Libertin Louison Technique Indiscrete that a friend had sent to me.

  64. crikey says:

Switched to a little No.19 to help me be a focused grown up, sitting down at my desk and churning through some more research data. When I’d rather be mucking about.

    I also ate my greens.

  65. australianperfumejunkies says:

    CHANEL No 5 EdT

  66. Saffyishere says:

Another night with little sleep.. Hubby and I were both restless and having bad dreams. I’m a grumpy Saffy this morning, but I have to snap out of it because I have to work this arvo… Used Green Tea shower gel, unfragranced sorbolene cream as a base for copious squirts of Shalimar.

  67. chez Marzipan says:

To chase away the seven inches of snow we received last night..La Chasse Aux Papillions….at least I can SMELL like spring….

  68. Diana says:

Orangers en fleurs Houbigant. I’m thinking of ordering it as a birthday gift to myself next month, although not entirely sure.

  69. Ingeborg says:

I wore BV Knot on Friday and found it lasted a short time only in the cold. So followed up with that light Voile d’ambre from Y. Rocher. It has been my EBP in the office for a while. Saturday was actually more or less scentless, while today I’m in Seville à l’aube. It is relaxing and stands up to the cold weather, so I am really fragrant.

  70. Jyotsna’ says:

Yesterday we went to a wedding. I was a waft of beguiling fleurs d’oranger on a perfect Canberra day.
Then later in the evening, slipped into comfy jammies and lavendar oil.
