Hi APJ,

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 12 February – 18 February 2018

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:

  1. Neela Vermeire Creations Mohur EdP
  2. Parfum d’Empire Fougere Bengale
  3. L’Artisan Seville a l’Aube
  4. Lolita Lempicka EdP
  5. Rouge d’Hermès

Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.

Last Weeks WINNER: Cassieflower

  1. Testing Lace Garden (Teo Cabanel)…to my memory this smells EXACTLY like vintage Coty’s Sand and Sables…..an inexpensive drugstore masterpiece…wore it to death in the early 90s….which goes to show that inexpensive beauties can indeed compete with niche and luxury brands 🙂

Hope everyone has/had a good Monday!

  2. After heavy snow in the past couple of days there’s finally some sunshine here in Paris! I’m happily wearing Mme de Nicolaï’s Vanille Tonka, which I bought two days ago along with their latest Cap Néroli!

  3. Oh wow! Me again☺️ I forgot to add DNEM last week but am thrilled to win. Thank you so much, Portia. Exclude me from this week’s draw please. Today’s perfume is TF Jasmine Rouge, a pretty rather than a vampy jasmine.

  5. Scent of the evening: Bulgari Black. A soft, simple pleasure.

Had a chance to spritz some Volutes EDP whilst in town at the weekend and still swooning over the memory of that…mmmm.

  6. Chant d’Aromes. I remember not being won over when I first tried it but since that time it’s become one of my biggest favourites.

  7. Une Amourette – day three of a heatwave here in Qld and it’s already stupid hot and disgustingly humid. This is so lovely and fresh smelling – perfect for this sort of weather.

  8. My SOTD is Rose Anonyme. It is my first wearing and I am double-minded about it. It is a tad sweeter than what I would have preferred.

    Like

      • It is good. I think I would have preferred the sweetness to be a tad lower and the freshness to be a little higher. I guess I might have wanted it to be a little more effervescent.

  9. I just have to share my good news with you all. I scored a job lot of vintage perfume on eBay just now. Didn’t spend too much either. I’m having a very happy Monday indeed😀

  10. Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, Cassieflower. You’re the Winner this week.!! I thought of you yesterday when I looked at my Stash bottles..lol.
Anyway ,yesterday , Monday, I woke and there were still very slight traces left on my hand from Thelma’s Bal A Versailles. Monday Sloth Day had arrived again, so I decided it was also a great day to do some sampling. Four scents were given a workout.
They were; 31 Rue Cambon by Chanel
    ; Bodhi by Teone Reinthal
    ; L’ether by IUNX
    ; Paloma by Rance
And the scrubber/s were; The Chanel and Rance scents, the Teone goes onto the “wouldn’t mind” and the L’Ether to the ‘use it up but not bottle worthy list’
Tuesday has arrived, and it is nearly 9am, so time to get off my big fat cohuna and get ready for the day. The Commonwealth Games Baton is coming through Ballarat today ,so thought I’d take a gander. Have an enjoyable Tuesday ,all.

    Congrats Cassieflower on your wins

  12. Hiram Green Shangri La today from a sample. This just might be my favorite Hiram Green. I had high hopes for Slowdive but my first sampling was straight up honey, not much else. Despite having a generous dose of peach which is sometimes a deal breaker, I really like Shangri La!

      • Old. An old teasure.. One of my first ‘this is me’ fragrances A gift from my mum. Before that I mostly- umm -shared (😁) hers.

I love the old one. I got a bunch of them as gifts. I keep meaning to get the new one but…

        • Oh, how beautiful! No need to try the new one. I’ve kept only empty bottles of Anais Anais (the white and the transparent) from the eighties, but my brain remebers the perfume well enough to dismiss the new version as – wrong. I envy you a little bit. If I knew back then what was going to happen with the reformulations, I’d have kept full bottles instead of empty ones.

    • Norah by Bulgari decant today. I’m liking it but not going crazy for it. Seems to sink into my skin and become almost undetectable within 15 minutes.

  14. Today, just like yesterday, I’m wearing Neela Vermeire’s Trayee from a sample. I just can’t get enough of this sweet spicy incensey beauty. It suits the cold weather perfectly.

  15. Today I wore Desert Rosewood. Cos slightly cooler weather is good for this one. I doused myself liberally – not that it needs it.

When I got home I sprayed on my winnings, Orion Nebula. So interesting.

At Chemist Warehouse I had put on some random $4 “Intense Musk” cheapie sitting at the bottom of the shelf of frags that are so cheap they’re not even locked away. Proper 70s dirty animalic musk.

And then cos I was watching Peps video on Pacific Rock Moss I put a bit of my sample on and now I want a full bottle of that too. What a day!

  16. Smelling like a cararmelized banana in the best possible way …..testing Hermessence Vaniila Gallante…pretty sure this one is discontinued.

    Like

    • Well, after a smidgen of research I see it has been compared to Coty’s Vanilla Fields so that explains why I like it…Vanilla Fields was another cheapy but goody I wore in the early 90s. Also have come to find that the ylang ylang is creating that “banana” accord.

    • Hey there CM,
I love Vanille Galant. It is much more lily-isa on me than you by the sounds of it and is like sweet and green in a stand off. Subtly weird and gorgeous.

    • My favorite of Hiram Green is Voyage…my nose hones in immediately on the lavender absolute which creates that suede accord. i have sampled all from the line except for Slowdive and find that there is a striking similarity to all of them.

      • I also love HG Voyage – from the first moment I sniffed it. It hit me with the feeling of being reminded of something from long ago that I had forgotten. It was strange, but very very nice and only happened the first time I sniffed it. Another lifetime maybe? 😉

  28. Mito VdP today, but it’s being shy. I think this must just be the cold weather, and my cold skin, and I’m hoping it will unravel and come out to play a little more.

Yesterday: SL Fourreau Noir, for easy, non-distraction. I love the balance of this on me, with the harder edges and the pillowy depths of the tonka.
Tuesday: In the evening, Le Mat, the Mendittorosa/Talisman’s warm and spicy immortelle-rose-patchouli-nutmeggy goodness, just what I needed after a brutal migraine.
Monday: Bapteme du Feu. Orange peel and gunpowder and cloves (and, unusually for me, I got a good slice of ginger in the first hour.) This scent horrifies one of my colleagues, who can’t understand why I’d want to wear anything that wasn’t “fresh” or flowery.

Fingers crossed that it’s not confiscated by the PO Stasi! Just like the UK we have stringent restrictions on perfume in the post, so I will have my best game face on as I tell them it’s ‘costume jewellery’. Such subterfuge over a few lousy mls of perfume😉

      • It’s a Serge Lutens scent, one from 2016. It’s one of the main range, rather than the hen’s teeth bell jars. The 50ml bottles seem to be kicking about at reduced prices now the big new bottles are on the shelves. (But I would not recommend it as a blind buy.)

(I have the 7.5ml tester box bottles of his other two–the damp resiny vetiver of Behind the Rain which still keeps making me consider a bottle, but then changing my mind, and Cirebon which is the orangest orange of any juicy orange I’ve got, but is more of a smell than a perfume.)
