Ambient Scent Wishlist for Santa

Hello dear APJ! How are you all doing?

The holidays are a around the corner and thankfully I am done with the shopping and just have to finish wrapping everything. We are having my parents over for Christmas this year and it will be special as my eight year old has not spent Christmas with his grandparents since he was six months old.

While I was telling my husband what I had bought for our son, he exclaimed that I am the most difficult person to buy a gift for! Seriously???!!! Me -difficult to shop for??!!! If he would listen to what I have been whispering to him (not so much whispering as it is me telling him what I wish for)… He was in Tokyo for a week and went looking but came back empty handed because he could not find it despite the fact that he had Japanese colleagues helping. He is off to Rome this week so fingers crossed… In all honesty I would love a new set of sheets and new bath towels but he says that he refuses to buy household items for Christmas – I understand his problem. So if I am honest with myself, perhaps I am a tad challenging to shop for.

The one luxury item that I am loving this year is ambient scents. So, while I am not holding my breath on receiving something scented for Christmas, I would love to share with you what has had me intrigued over the past six months.

Ambient Scent Wishlist for Santa

While buying the roses for the perfume talk at the school, I spotted a brand which was completely new to me. L’Objet. The florist carries the bath salts, bars of soap and room sprays. I started out smelling all of the bath salts and loved each one of them and would have bought one on the spot if I had not seen the room sprays.

Rose Noire Room Spray L'ObjetL’Objet

The black bottle is heavy and has a white label with the name of the scent and two reliefs on either side of the name. Very modern and elegant. The one that came home with me is called Rose Noire which is all about the exquisite rose and tea with some added spices for good measure. I spray the room, the upholstery and sit back and dream of walking through a garden of rare fragrant roses. Divine. I will certainly be trying out the two other room sprays in the collection.

Flora Di Fornasetti Room Spray MeccaMecca

Another brand that I have always loved is Fornasetti. Their incense sticks are subtle and leave the room scented for hours. This summer I splurged on the Fornasetti room spray Flora which leaves a scented trail of a white floral bouquet which I find stunning on a warm day. It of course helps that it comes in a gorgeous ceramic holder with a lid and looks like a piece of art.

Cire Trudon Becker MintyBecker Minty

Cire Trudon is another brand that I started exploring this summer. I am eyeing one of their Christmas candles with the festive scents and colours of the ceramic holders.

There is a whole new world out there with home fragrances that I have yet to tap into. If I cannot have flowers every week, why not a room spray or a candle that brings a smile to my face.

Do you like to scent your home? Do you use candles, incense or room sprays? Any suggestions for me? I would love to hear what you have to say.

Be safe over the holidays.
Oodles of fragrant kisses, Sandra

Padre Aura: Nera Orchidea Candle + Discount Code

Hi there crew,

My mate Thierry is director at City Perfume. Recently I was coffee-ing with him and he was really excited about his line of candles. Full of enthusiasm, Thierry has worked hard to make quality products at an affordable price. Going through the range together it was easy to become bundled up in his joy and they do smell good.

Padre Aura Nera Orchidea Triple Scented Soy Candle

The line is based on fragrances, it’s a cool concept. They take a few popular perfumes from the same genre and create an analogous simple scent that has a few of the crossover notes. So the candle I chose, Padre Aura: Nera Orchidea, has a few notes from Tom Ford Black Orchid, Tom Ford Velvet Orchid, Narciso Rodriguez and Bvlgari Jasmin Noir. While it smells unlike any one of them particularly it does resemble parts all of them.

Padre Aura: Nera Orchidea gives a fruit sweetness over spicy white florals and vanilla.

One of the things I like about these candles is they don’t have the heavy, thick scent trails so many other brands leave. I don’t want my apartment overtaken by candle fragrance, what I want is a scent to neutralise man, food and dog smells and leave the place smelling fresh, inviting and loved. Padre Aura: Nera Orchidea does this perfectly. Burn the candle for an hour till the top of the wax is liquid, then blow it out. The warm wax will continue scenting your home for a couple of hours afterwards at a low level.

You get approximately 80 hours burn time and with the double wick the wax melts nearly to the edges. The wick doesn’t discolour the candle and there is only a little smoking at blow out. There are a bunch of selections in the range that are similar to such fragrant luminaries as Coco Mademoiselle, Alien, Aventus, Spice Bomb and many more.

City Perfume has offered APJ readers a 10% DISCOUNT CODE* (AFG17) and FREE AUSTRALIAN EXPRESS SHIPPING if you spend over $150

Padre Aura: Nera Orchidea is $59/400gm

So what is your candle of choice?

Micky & Moby Candles

Hey Ambient Scenters,

One of my mates, who has been a mate since our teen years, gave me some Micky & Moby candles for my birthday last year. I thought the packaging with its black & white cats and paw print on the labels, the hand applied strings with scent names and the big glass jars were all very simple but beautiful. Almost a nautical look. As soon as my bathroom candle was finished I brought one of them in and it sits with the lid off on my bathroom window sill. The scent is exactly the right amount to give a calm, fresh and clean scent to the room every time i walk in. When guests come I light the candle and it cleanses the air of all the human waste smells in a minute, yes really. It’s also a lovely soft scented light for my late night baths. TBH it’s my preferred way to bathe but mostly I do it in the daytime for work purposes.

How Do You Scent Your Home?

Hello fellow fragrance lovers!

Today I’m wondering, how do you scent your home? Our quarters are our own personal atmosphere, an oasis from the spiraling chaos of routine. It’s fun to express yourself by decorating your air space!

How Do You Scent Your Home?

Aside from the typical candles, incense sticks, and Scentsy warmers (which I display and use proudly), there are some other fun and creative ways to liven up the ambience.

Luxe atmosphere/linen sprays are such a delight! Right now I have several favorites in my collection from houses such as Black Phoenix Trading Post, Parfum de Nicolaï and Sucreabeille. The fragrances are unique, unexpected, and great conversation starters! Don’t forget the L’Artisan Amber Balls too.

Another fabulous experience is burning resin incense on charcoal tablets in a censer. There is nothing that compares to real frankincense tears and myrrh resin cloaking a room in divine perfume. Be safe and try not to burn the place down! And it’s smart to crack a window open, smoke alarms can disrupt one’s zen. 😉

Have you ever used an oil burner? A while back, Nocturne Alchemy released some limited edition Offering Oils specifically formulated for warming in an oil burner, no dilution necessary. I just light a tea light under the suspended glass dish, and soon the aroma is dancing around the room. The scents are purely euphoric, and they are by far my favorite way to fragrance my home. I hope they decide to make more someday, my little hoard is starting to dwindle.

Lastly, I’d love to hear your opinions on ultrasonic aroma diffusers like the Muji. I’m curious and very tempted. If you have one, do you use it often, or did you lose interest once you played with it a few times? Do you have any brands you recommend (or would advise against)?

I hope you are cozy and well-scented, and that you are enjoying the company of loved ones this holiday season.

So tell me in the comments below, how do you scent your home?

Fragrant hugs,
-Erica

Woo Hoo!
Sexy man and grande perfumer Pierre Guillaume presents his newest idea. It’s about ambient scent and they look fantastic. Can’t wait to try them. I’ve copied and pasted the bits I thought were fabulously exciting from the Press Release.

The 240g Cruise Collection Scented Candles : ARUBA, AMSTERDAM, HIBISCUS, LEAF, SAÏGON and TAÏGA, propose to shade the room with a touch of exoticism, as visual as olfactive.

La Gachette (the trigger) 500ml, available with 4 fragrances : HIBISCUS, LEAF, SAÏGON and TAÏGA, set an olfactive ambience with just a gesture from the index.
