Bottega Veneta EdP by Michel Almairac 2011

Hey Hey all you Deliciously Fragrant Wafters.

I have reviewed Bottega Veneta in short before but I have come back to it again because it has gone into Department Stores here in Australia and I think it a juice worthy of your particular attention. For a wearable, go anywhere, quietly and self servingly hyper-luxe fragrance that will never skunk but always give you private pleasure, and those intimates who come extremely close, there isn’t a better choice on the market. My opinion and clearly not humble: This is the poo people, take a BIG whiff.

Bottega Veneta EdP 2011

Picture Stolen Fragrantica

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Italian bergamot, Brazilian pink pepper
Heart: Indian Sambac jasmine
Base: Oak moss, patchouli and Indian patchouli

I think that Fragrantica has missed some notes, and yes I understand what featured means, but I get leather. Inside a brand new handbag, jacket of suitcase you will find the basic scent of Bottega Veneta EdP by Michel Almairac, who is responsible for some of my perfume library (Casmir, Gucci Rush, Joop Homme: ALL blockbusters). I smell a sweet (not sugar), fruity (but not the crap celebuscent fruit) leather that is quietly luxurious and lasts for the whole day. It gets more interesting and dryer as the day progresses, there is also a fresh salty sea water tang that parades through at intervals. I can’t tell you enough that this is an incredibly wearable scent that is also, to me, an artistic triumph in a world where that is happening less and less in the mainstream.

Perfect for socialising and for all but the most severely fragrance free workplaces. Date night, boozy lunch, picnic, yachting, horse track or at home snuggled up in front of the TV with a big cuppa/scotch/wine/water. Jeans, dress, after gym shower, ballgown, track suit or office suit; Bottega Veneta EdP will take you there and back.

The bottle is hefty and fits beautifully in my hand and I feel like a glamourpuss when I apply in the store. They also do Parfum in Murano glass bottles and though it’s expensive, there are EdT’s that cost more and come in molded glass. They also do a slightly, but not outrageously, expensive body care range which I think is also delectable. I am SORELY tempted to take the houskeeping money for a fortnight and just splurge but will wait. It’s hovering near the top of my list and I am trying to squirrel some money away but I am a notorious fritterer. I have an 8ml ThePerfumedCourt decant that is not finished, afterwards I will think seriously about the Parfum.

  1. As u know I am currently getting well aquatinted with everything leather and I huffed this offering 2 days ago ! Lovely , suede-esque and georgously politely leathery scented ! I don’t think it will become part of my collection but I will consider buying it as a gift for family or someone special ! This is a real beauty but to tame for my animalistic urges to smell like a heavenly scented raw hide!

  2. What a coincidence! I wore this last night to sleep in. In the perfume blogosphere, you are becoming the closest thing I have to a scent twin. So many of the perfumes you review are also loves of mine.
I was lucky enough to snag a gift box of this at Neiman’s just before the holidays last year. I got a large bottle of this, the body lotion and the cutest travel mini you’ve ever seen, for the price of the bottle of perfume. This is one of my go to scents. Something that I know will keep me centered and calm and happy throughout the day. I love to wear this one when flying as it’s elegant, calming and it wears close to the body. You’re not going to gas the whole airplane when wearing this one. This one kind of reminds me of book binding leather instead of leather motorcycle jackets or tack. Love, love, love it!

    • YAY!! I have a scent twin! Excellent news Tatiana. The best word I have for this is LUXE. I feel rich and gorgeous when I wear it and totally selfish because it’s mainly for me.
I’m going to wear it to bed tonight.

  3. I wish I understood the love for this scent. I spray. I sniff. I deeply inhale with my nose shoved into my wrist. And what do I get? Nothing. I can’t smell a thing with this one. It’s so strange. On paper it’s very faint but once it hits my skin. Nothing. Even my hubby couldn’t smell a thing on me. It sounds wonderful too. Oh well, there are plenty of others I can enjoy I guess.

  4. Last year when the perfume was released I couldn’t figure out what everybody saw (well, smell) in it. It wasn’t unpleasant but there wasn’t much in it for me… A little while ago suddenly something has chenged in how I smell it – and now I like it. I’m fine with a mini bottle I have (though I’d have prefereed it to be a spray bottle) and if I use it up I’ll think if I need more.

  5. The more I move further into leathers the more I realize that it doesn’t have to scream LEATHAH!!!! all the time. This really is a soft, sueded scent (alllllllliteration nation!). I almost dismissed this one, thinking I didn’t need anything this soft. I wuz wa-rong! I love this very ladylike scent.

  6. This one is really lovely, and I like the understated bottle. It hovered at or near the top of my to-buy list for a very long time, and then just sort of died off. And then I got Midnight in Paris, so I’m not sure I really *need* this anymore …

    • WOW! It gets stronger as the day progresses on me. The more I wear it, the more interesting and complex it has become.
I’m sad that it doesn’t wear as well on others.
Thank goodness there are so many other choices,
Thanks for coming and commenting Lady jicky, great to see you,

  7. I really really like this, and a decant or mini has been near the top of my wish-list this last year. This and Cuir Ottoman are the only two leathers that really work on my skin (I really was hoping that Cuir de Lancome would…… nope) and these two scents do a nice job of showing the different ways leather can go. However, I’ve been meaning to give Daim Blond a whirl before I finally commit, and now it looks like I need to check out Midnight in Paris as well.

    • Oh Dionne,
Midnight In Paris is one of my all time fave, go to, get compliments perfumes. You can do a 10 spritz waltz and still not skunk anybody. Perfect for me, over sprayer not anonymous.

  8. This is a favorite of mine, and one of the rare scents DH truly loves. However, once when I was wearing it in a small office annex, a colleague stepped in and and said ,”Hmmm. Something smells musty in this room.” I simply smiled and said, “Hello.” I”ll never know if it was one of the myriad fungal odors that inhabit old buildings, or if it was my Bottega Veneta.

I don’t do well with heavy leathers (enjoy them, but can’t wear them) so, thorugh not exactly flagships of the genre, Bottega Veneta and Cuir Beluga (which I find to me more of a micro-fiber)– have become my go-to leather fragrances.

And that bottle–looks clean, feels heavy and substantial, elegant design. The polar opposite of that featherweight Coco noir bottle…
