Top 10 Spring/Autumn Fragrances 2015 Perfume Reviews

Hello Gorgeous APJ Family,

It’s Top 10 Spring/Autumn Fragrances time again, my favourite seasons are Autumn and Spring, the mid seasons. I love that in both these seasons the weather can be remarkably similar, sunny and warm on one day, freezing or blustery on another, nights are cool to cold and so the overall wearings are quite similar. These fragrances are on my desk and within easy spritz reach and they only stay on the desk while they are getting regular spritz time, if they’ve been sitting there for more than a few days without attention they go back in the cupboard.

Top 10 Spring/Autumn Fragrances 2015 Perfume Reviews

Futur* – Robert Piguet: The ungreenest green ever. Sappy, sweet, green and extremely wearable all year round. Futur has been out of the cupboard and on my skin quite a bit lately and it fits any occasion.

Liberte* – Cacharel: A screaming, sizzling, BarBQ’d orange that is so sugary and ends up in a vanilla/patchouli/orange finale. I’ve loved it for years and now that it seems to be discontinued I’ve had to grab a couple of back up bottles.

Shalimar EdP* + Parfum – Guerlain: My old faithful. Shalimar fits every season, every mood and every event. From it’s citrus gelato opening to the resinous, vanilla and leather dry down I love Shalimar through and through. If I had to pick a fragrance to be my one and only Shalimar would be it.

CHANEL No 22: Yes, it’s the modern EdT. I bought it in NYC on our trip and that aldehydic zwoosh is too fabulous for words. Lasts all day, smells incredible and I feel like a million dollars from spritz to shower.

Mitzah – DIOR Prive: For those cooler nights Mitzah. Sweet, spicy, animal roses that feel like they have a whisper of oud in with the patchouli. Warm and sensual but cool enough to wear all year.

Neroli & Orchidee – L’Occitane: Another great L’Occitane cheap and cheerful fragrance! Spring has definitely sprung. I have been loving it sick but the final stamp of approval was given by Willa Zheng on Friday, she totally agrees and I trust her nose completely.

Niki de Saint Phalle: I can’t stop spritzing this glamorous green. Bright, fun and energetic. Niki de Saint Phalle is take charge with a twinkle in your eye. I think it’s the mint in the opening contrasting with the fruit and galbanum, gets me every time.

Nirvana Black by Elizabeth & James: Warm sandalwoodsy vanilla. Great price, excellent packaging. Wear this shit everywhere.

Pichola – Neela Vermeire Creations: The softest, most complex and wonderful tuberose. Surrounded by other notes and accords but it is the tuberose, sheer and clean, shorn of all its intimate, breathy and shitty bits we are left with the clearest, green herbs and spice overlaid tuberose. Beautiful, wearable and a complete divergence for the line while maintaining so many of the things I love.

Un Jardin Apres la Mousson by Hermes: That thick oily, wet, sweet, herbaceous freak of a fragrance. I find it addictive and love to lose myself in its heavy sheer wafts.

There are my current mid-season Top 10. They will probably be changed by next week but right now these ten fragrances are getting good skin time and working extremely well in the changeable conditions that the mid-seasons hand us.

What are you wearing right now? Give me a Top 3 if you’ve got one…..

Loads of love to you all, wherever and in what ever weather,
Portia x

  1. I’ve been wearing Neroli & Orchidee every day since I won it on APJ, it’s lovely for autumn! Haven’t lit the pretty candle yet, I want to wait and treasure the experience. 🙂

    • Hey there Jaybee,
I too find myself drawn to Neroli & Orchidee above all others right now. It’s the good shit.
Yes, the candle is special. that’s why you should burn it for about 30 minutes every day, that’s 2 months of fragrant air in your home.

  2. Fab list Portia! Pichola must be amazing on you.

Aside from testing, I’ve mostly been wearing Hiris and Antonia. When it gets a bit milder I will get out my bottle of OJ’s Champaca – a great green floral for spring which I’m swiftly using up.

    • Hiris! Tara, have we had this conversation because I think it’s a perfect fit for you. I have a 10ml of Champaca here somewhere. I think it deserves a revisit.
You must be thrilled that spring has sprung.

      • Oh Portia I am so happy to have found Hiris! It was my first bottle purchase of the year. I’ve looked so long for my perfect iris and here it is. You know me so well 🙂

I always feel a sigh of relief when March rolls around. Hope you have a lovely autumn.

  3. Today I wore Mohur, which I adore, and noticed that it lasted all morning, perhaps due to cooler and less humid weather.
No.2 Jersey extrait, just love this whenever.
No 3 not mine, but a treat for me, my husband is breaking out M by Pure Distance.
Rich, ambery leathery. Bring on the cooler weather!

I am currently talking to Neela about doing a one off Australia shipment of her fragrances. It’s quite tricky but hopefully after Esxence is over we will be able to organise it. The prices should be the same as LuckyScent. Fingers crossed.

  4. Your description of Pichola is killing me! Lately I’ve been enjoying Elie Saab L’Eau Couture, Dior Cuir Cannage, and Memo French Leather quite a little bit. Thanks for the post; I always love these seasonal lists! 🙂

    • Hi there Sherobin,
Elie Saab makes lovely fragrances., I loved Cuir Cannnage on other people but on me it turns into a hot sweet mess.
I’m so glad you like the lists, me too.

  5. I must try Pichola. I love tuberose and this fragrance is getting great reviews. I don’t have a top three at the moment, but I’m awaiting a bottle of Pear, Waterlily, and Amber from Dame Perfumery and can’t wait. It’s perfect for warmer weather which the US southwest is moving into right now. Thanks for the review!

  6. Portia – it is because of you that I know the niki de st Phalle – sometimes I have to take the bottle with me – spray all day – recently found ivorie de Balmain, last week wearing iris – Chanel 28 la pausa, houbigant iris Le champs ( love) hiris and chanel jersey

    • YAY!! It makes me happy that you’ve found Niki de saint Phalle through me. What a wonderful fragrance Marianne, and getting harder to find online. I’m worried that it’s been discontinued.

  7. Love to see that others love Niki de Saint Phalle! I wore it in the early eighties and have such fond memories (smashing bottle too!) (Not that I smashed it – it’s a great bottle.) These days I’m wearing my permanent loves, Antonia and Mito VdeE, with the occasional spritz of Fleurs d’Oranger. It’s a slow spring here in New England – in fact it snowed all day yesterday. So I wear what I love to keep me warm inside!

    • Hi there Empliau,
People are talking about Antonia. Is this from Antonia’s Flowers?

      • In my case this is Puredistance Antonia. I do love galbanum and green together. It is the more precious to me because I had a bit of a wild ride getting it (long story) – but the longer the wait, the greater the satisfaction, at least to my mind. Happy autumn!

  8. Hi Portia,
nice choices you selected! From your list I particularly love Mitzah, it was my christmas present and since it’s supposed to snow next week, Mitzah will still be in heavy rotation I guess…Neroli & Orchidee sounds promising, will have to test it!
But I am really waiting for springtime, spring is mostly iris, violet and lilac to me. So my top 3 spring fragrances this year could probably be Infusion d’Iris, Violettes du Czar and Champs-Elysée.
    Have a nice autumn!

Champs-Elysées is one of my all time faves. Currently packed away in boxes though. Soon all will be unpacked in the new house. Very Excited

  9. HI PORTIA!

whoa. all caps. that was intense! i really like neroli & orchidee – though i wish they sold it in smaller bottles. not that it’s that expensive, but i have a hard time making it through any amount of fragrance! i also really really want to try Pichola (and really any NV creation).

i don’t have a regular rotation of spring fragrances, but this spring i’ve been enjoying mure et musc extreme, tokyo bloom and several of Jeffrey Dame’s edts. they’re so light and feminine, they remind me of sunshine warming spring breeze. i’ve also recently agreed to a swap in which I’ll get some en passant. i haven’t tried it yet, but i’m hoping it’ll be lovely.

  11. Spring is here – we have a Mistral this morning – a wind that blasts through the South of France. It’s like a Nor Wester in NZ. Anyhow I haven’t been wearing perfume at Esxence (yes it was cool) so now can get back into it.

In spring I love : Tubereuse Couture, Bas de Soie. I love the new Teo Cabanel Lace Garden – it is a really beautiful feminine pretty perfume. Also have just tried Pichola and love it but need to wear it properly this week to get to know it.

  12. Hi Portia,
The ladies at the city L’Occitane store also tell me that Neroli Orchidee is their most popular selling fragrance. For a cheap and cheerful fragrance from L’Occitane, this lasts an incredible long time and has definite throw.

I’m still in denial that autumn has arrived. Not packing my summer fragrances just yet… I did whip out Penhaligon Peoneve again yesterday. I wore it so much last autumn.

    • Hey Willa,
That is news! I am glad we are in agreement with the general shopping public. How nice are the L’Occitane staff? I’ve not met an agro one yet.
Ha! We are well into Autumn Willa, a third of the way through. To be honest we are having a lovely Indian Summer. I like the cooling nights though.

  14. Niki de St Phalle was the first “grown-up” fragrance that I bought. I have adored it ever since…and yes, harder to find and more $$ for those dwindling numbers of bottles that are left. Shiseido’s Feminite du Bois is another spring & fall. I’ve found Wit by DelRae is pretty for spring and I love Diorissimo as well. For fall I tend to like smokier, leathery, incense-y, etc. scents. JHaG Lady Vengeance, Norne by Slumberhouse and I do like Reglisse Noir as well.

    • Hey there Carolyn,
Excellent to meet another Niki de Saint Phalle lover.
Great list too. Wit, and Reglisse Noir. MMMMM
