Hi there Fumies!
Something I find quite a few frag heads also love is reading, we are sensualists and love to dream. Today I’m looking at a fragrance inspired by a book, a book I enjoyed immensely. It’s a fun, fast paced thriller style pot boiler that has a very generous smattering of perfume and perfumer inside knowledge. Always nice to combine two loves.

I want this book but it is pricey. I’d rather buy a bottle of fragrance. 🙂
Hmmm, that’s a good question. Well, since one of my alltime faves is The Chronicles of Narnia, maybe a fragrance called “Aslan.” Or, another fave is Nabokov’s Bend Sinister; so, maybe a really badass oud, leather, tobacco called “Sinister.”

I think I’ll have to buy that book! I’d love to have a fragrance created around Wuthering Heights – innocence, madness, love, desire and ghostly! Or The Crimson Petal and The White, a book so expertly written that the fragrances redolent of Victorian London – both the pure and the profane – virtually leapt of every page! Arcana created a beautiful oil of my other favourite book – Tess of the D’urbervilles and it is PERFECT ❤

Great choice, my favourite book ever.
If you’re in Australia I highly recommend the Withering Heights adaptation by the Shake & Stir Theatre co. I’ve just recently seen it, it’s brilliant.

I like the concept of creating a scent around a book Portia and all the commenters before made great and interesting choices in my opinion. If we stick to the classics, maybe a fragrance built around the proud character of Hester Prynne from Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter? I imagine Olivia Giacobetti or Patricia de Nicolai would do a good job here.
Something completely different would be a scent built around Alex, the main character of A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. Living in a disturbed world, going though various stages in his young life – from violence through passive indifference after a kind of brainwashing and back. I believe the house of ELDO could release such a scent.
Since I like reading very much, I’ll surely look for the book you recommend.

What a great question. I needed to look through my Kindle list for some help, but I’d love a dirty, beachy, marine scent tinged with misery and scorching sunlight based on the excellent Sex Lives of Cannibals (J. Maarten Troost). I don’t know if I’d like to wear it often, but it would be fascinating to smell. A scroll up through others’ comments also intrigues me. Books and scents–what a great marriage. The Ames Soeurs sounds pretty interesting, and I think I’ll have to read that book.

I’d be surprised if there wasn’t one, but I’d pick a fragrance based on Gone With the Wind – it could go so many directions. Earthy, peachy, gunpowdery, sweaty, make-up-y… the list goes on. Thanks for the review and the draw! I follow via bloglovin.

I can think of so many books I’d like to create a perfume around…perhaps Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina – unbridled illicit passion contrasted with the true and steady love of the happily married. I’m sure it would have jasmine…and musk.

interesting idea, I also adore wuthering heights, cold bleak moors etc, also alice in wonderland is a virtual lolly bag of smells, what about the infamous Perfume by Suskind? I follow by email

Great question! What about a perfume for Harriet Vane in Gaudy Night or Strong Poison? Love the Dorothy Sayers books and the wonderful BBC version with Harriet Walters! Would need to be something smart and classic but also very cutting edge. (I follow by e-mail)

Thanks for the giveaway, and I think you’re right about the love of reading. We are such dreamers ;-).
Books and perfumes share the same attraction for me: opening the world, taking me to places that I might not have even dreamt about, escaping, bringing back lost memories.
The book I’m choosing would be Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, because I’m such a romantic and because Jo took Wuthering Heights, LOL 😉
Harry Potter would be a great choice too….

Hi Portia. There is already a book about one of my faves: The Perfume Lover is a love story set around the creation of Sevile a l’Aube. I’m an avid reader of Scandi crime novels. Maybe someone could do Armaldur Indridason’s Arctic Chill. I’m thinking an ice cologne, notes of cypress, tobacco and booze, in a blood red bottle.

I would like a fragrance to be created around Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. I know Mugler did something but I want something more widely available option, especially, an interpretation of the final perfume created by the central character in the book. I follow APJ through email.
