Hello Fumies,
Jin and I were in Paris earlier this year, it was supposed to be a calm and quiet three days but it was CRAZY!! The day we arrived was the opening day of Tranoï Paris 2016 and the Le Galion guys had invited us. Rude not to really. So I just opened a bag that I kept my Kusmi Teas in and inside was a selection of the Ulrich Lang fragrances in carded manufacturers samples. YAY!!!
Ulrich is a lovely man, from the little I know him, and so super cool. We had a great time hanging out at Tranoï and I hope to get to hang with him again.
I particularly loved Lightscape a while back and it was excellent to get to see the whole range. Obviously a frag convention is a terrible place to smell fragrance because there are too many warring bits and pieces of scent flying about so I brought them home to try, and some extras to share.

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Mint, basil, sage, bergamot, tangerine, lime
Heart: Jasmine, geranium, violet, sesame, honey
Base: Patchouli, guava, moss, leather, amber, wood notes
Nightscape begins with a flurry of tangy green, a bit like the mixings for an alcoholic drink without the booze. Crisp, refreshing, herbaceous and very quietly sweet. Within the first 5 minutes the patchouli makes an entrance, modern patchouli sheer and radiant but with just enough oomph to give a saucy wink to the headshop patchoulis of old.The bouquet is all melded so seamlessly that it reads to my nose as an amorphous floral hum and I’m not sure if I can really smell honey or if the note list has planted that idea in my head.
There is a joyful feeling of anticipation through nightscape, nothing scary or ferocious. It feels grand but not in a baroque way, more grand like the feeling of expensive hotel sheets, understated and simple but luxurious. It’s the satin finished patina of a years old platinum wedding ring.
A couple of hours in and the sheerest patchouli and maybe violet, something sweetly green and waxy hum quietly around me. Nightscape is calm and cool. I really like it.

I haven’t tried any Ulrich Lang fragrances yet, but he seems lovely 🙂 I also think it’s pretty cute that he has a Lightscape and a Nightscape! I don’t have a favorite patchouli yet, though I quite enjoy the note. Divine l’Inspiratrice, maybe. But I think my least favorite patchouli is Il Profvmo Patchouli Noir, which smells lovely on paper and like poop on my skin. Augh. I follow by e-mail. Thanks for the draw! I haven’t heard of Ulrich Lang before now.
I am a patchouli hater unless it is blended well as an element not the central character ala dirty hippie. But, some that I do like where it is an element are: Darling Clandestine’s Tapadero, Deconstructing Eden’s Persephone Descending, Frankincense and Rose’s Jasmine Oriental, Malle Portrait of a Lady, Guerlain Chypre Fatal, Guerlain Rose Nacrae, I Profumi di Firenze’s Tobacco, Imaginary Author’s The Soft Lawn, Jeanne Arthes’ Essential Patchouli Sumatra, Juliette Has a Gun’s Vengeance Extreme, L’Artisan’s Voleur de Roses, Lush Karma, Papillon Tobacco Rose. But my fave is Perris Monte Carlo’s Essence de Patchouli.

Wow! Another great give-away! I have not tried any of the fragrances mentioned here and so probably no Ulrich Lang fragrances? My favorite patchouli is Wild Child #13 by Opus Oils – a real old smelling “dirty hippie”. (Thanks for that image, Gina! I love it!) 🙂 I follow by e-mail and Bloglovin’.

I haven’t explored the Ulrich Lang creations. I love to give my patchouli plant a tweak and sniff when I walk by it, but don’t consciously seek the note out in perfume. When I give it a thought, I enjoy Fieldnotes from Paris and Aromatics Elixir very much as well as a solid single-note Patchouli from For Strange Women so I guess I don’t mind it. I think that Angel may have scared me away from anything where chocolate or patchouli are touted as prominent notes and that’s just silly. I do love a good herbal opening, especially if there’s mint involved so I might actually love Nightscape if I gave it a try.

I follow by email. I haven’t tried Ulrich Lang, but oh my, your description makes me want to go out and buy it. My favorite pachouli would be Coromandel if I had to pick one. I like the old dirty hippie vibe actually, but only when not going out as it tends to put some others off, I feel. Not “clean” enough for some.

I haven’t tried any of Ulrich Lang’s fragrances so far. Patchouli as a note I admire only as a part of the good old chypres, otherwise it’s too prominent to my nose.

addendum and oh how I love my favourite Patchouli Parfum is Serge Lutens Borneo 1834 – the year the parisians discovered patchouli.

I have full bottle of Ulrich Lang Lightscape and you will enjoy it if you like airy violet notes. But I have not tried any other so this is great draw. I follow APJ through email and Facebook. thanks for the generous draw.

I follow by email and have the site bookmarked. I’m not familiar with any Ulrich Lang fragrances, but would love the chance to try some. I like my Patchouli to be deep, dark and dirty and so my favourite is Reminiscence Inoubliable Elixir Patchouli. Thanks for the chance!

The only perfume from the brand I’ve tried was Lightscape: I tried it twice, liked the first time, didn’t like the second time – and since then I was building up a nerve to try it again.
I do not mind patchouli as an ingredient in perfumes but I don’t have a favorite patchouli perfume.

Nightscape got me from the first sniff!I consider it perfectly balanced, as most the patchouli scents have the tendency to go over the top! But I love patchouli – L’Artisan’s Voleur des Roses, Molinard’s Patchouli Intense, Atelier Cologne’s Mistral Patchouli…

I’ve not tried any of Ulrich Lang’s frags, and I’m actually not sure what my favourite patchouli scent is. It’s probably one where the patch blends well with the other notes, and isn’t too dominating, but nothing comes to mind at the moment. Anyone have any suggestions?!
