Serge Lutens Wax Samples

Hey APJ,

Earlier this year Jin & I were treated to a morning of sniffing the Serge Lutens Bell Jar collection at the Palais Royal store in Paris. We were led upstairs by our glamorous hostess and treated to one of the most incredible experiences that I’ve enjoyed through my perfumistahood. Usually only done for groups of four or more and the expectation is that you will shop like crazy at the end. Obviously we did, buying for ourselves and friends, leaving with 7 or 8 bell jars. Elvira was our hostess and I tell every group that I know is going to Paris and loves fragrance to book the Masterclass. Should you be going to France and wish to book this marvellous fragrant adventure there is a Serge Lutens Contact Page, attention Elvire.

At the end of the class Elvira gave me three complete packs of the wax samples to give away on APJ but I only just found them again. The wax samples are not meant to be worn, they are to give you an idea of how the late heart and dry down will smell. It’s not an exact science and your body will change the way the scent progresses a little too but for an idea of how a fragrance smells it’s pretty good.

  1. Mmmm sounds so amazing!!
My fav SL is Chergui. Funnily, I did not appreciate it at all first time I tried it. I was very much a BWF gal when I tried it but now I’ve become more open minded and appreciative of other scents. Chergui opened the door to other SL fragrances like Arabie, Amber Sultan and the more oriental fragrances. Nowadays it’s hard to find an SL that I DON’T love!

  2. No need to enter me in the draw, as I plan to visit SL in Paris soon-ish anyway, but I’m just commenting to ask what in the world was said that made you pull that face 😉
I follow by email, in case you were interested…

  3. So lucky!!! My favourite SL is Feminite du Bois – I think I have managed to go through nearly a full bottle this winter alone!

  4. There are so many great Luten’s fragrances it is so hard to choose – but I wear la file de Berlin the most. I would love to try some of the bell jar ones!

  5. I have been on an SL binge lately and bought about eight bottles. My faves are Ambre Sultan, Daim Blond and La Fille de Berlin.

My least favorite? Definitely the rotten, decomposition, dead fish smell of Serge Noir.

  6. Hello Portia. It seems Jin and you had a great day at that Masterclass. I have always been quite intrigued by the idea of the waxes. My fave is the Shiseido Fem du Bois. I also have fallen in love with De Profundis and my aim is to one day buy a bottle of this.

  7. I follow by email. My favorites are Ambre Sultan and Fille en Aiguilles, but I really love many more than that. How cool that you got to take the Masterclass. Thanks for the giveaway.

  8. How much fun! When I was there last summer, there was no master class. Alas, and I only got a quick tour of upstairs. Serge Lutens is what got me into niche. Prior to this house, I really had no idea what was going on in niche perfumery. I have virtually every bell or bottle save for Mandarine (next time!) and a Vetiver. I love the entire Bois line. Chene was my first FB bell, Araby, my initial mistake that I grew to love, Cedre that reminds me of home, Chergui that so many of us enjoy and that was my intro into SL scent. I love all the lavenders. The scent I enjoy most that garners compliments is Fourreau Noir. Pure heaven. Please don’t enter me for the wax samples. I am a devoted admirer of SL though there were some recent years of misses for me rather than hits. His latest one I quite enjoy, but I have not and won’t purchase the Incendiare/exclusive line. As an aside, the lipstick line is divine: Votre Sienne my only red!

  9. I follow by email! I think the first post of yours I read was the one about your trip that was posted on FFF. I loooove Encense et Lavande and really like a few others, but I have barely scratched the surface of the line.

  10. Serge Lutens perfume house has great respect in my heart. I love wearing Chene, Chergui & Ambre Sultan. I am planning to buy others like Muscs Koublai Khan, Cuir Mauresque, Sarrasins, La Myrrhe, Cannibale and L`orpheline.

  11. Following by email. Looks like you and Jin had great fun.

I have Chergui which verges on the too sweet/resinous for me, but is held in by the smokiness. As much as I would likely love many of the scents in his woody/chypre category, I’d most like to try Bois de Violettes and Iris Silver Mist.

Thanks for the generous draw opportunity.

  12. The mysterious wax samples! I have been trying to get my hands on these for some time to no avail. Your first image there with all of the bottles looks so fun, I would have been overwhelmed by choice. My favourite SL so far is Fille de Berlin, the perfume that single handedly encouraged me to believe in rose perfumes again.

  14. Now that is a glamorous morning! Note to self: If I ever get to Paris, make sure to assemble at least three other perfume lovers for a SL Masterclass. Of the relatively few Serge Lutens perfumes I’ve tried, my favorite is the classic Amber Sultan. The ones I’d most like to try are Un Lys and De Profundis. I follow with Bloglovin.

  17. Woohoo, another giveaway! I followed via email and I like Iris Silver Mist. I don’t usually have much luck with Serge Lutens fragrances because the few I’ve tried disappear on me rather quickly, so the chance to smell the entire range would be God send 🙂

  18. I follow the fantastic APJ Blogs on Facebook and through my email – and it is a big 💜to Portia that I am a firm convert to Serge Lutens creations my first encounter was the peppery violet of feminite du bois but then I was indulged @ Five O’ clock Au Gingembre both of which I have purchased twice but I am definitely now yearning for Un Lys – my namesake flower (divinity of lily of the valley)non-export in a bell jar and of course with my initials carved into that lil bell jar – sublime.
