Our Two Greyhounds Arrived

Hi crew,

Yesterday we took ownership of two perfectly beautiful greyhound dogs. Both male, not quite two years old and neither had made it to the track yet or even been named. They were the slow pokes of their families and were heading for the rainbow bridge. I took Jin out to meet them and it was instant love.

Our Two Greyhounds Arrived

I know this is a crap picture but this was the first one taken in their new home on our balcony.

The Black one on the left is mine and he is called Paris. On the right the Grey/Blue one is Jin’s and his name is Jinx. We did have other names picked but the dogs really didn’t seem to fit them so we went through our list of names till they perked up at one.

I have been wearing Madagascar Jasmine by Naomi Goodsir because the jasmine is in bloom in Sydney and I wanted in on that loveliness and Bulgari Man In Black because foggy woods are freaking YUMMY!

Sorry, I have to get back to cuddling my puppy.

Aren’t they gorgeous?

  1. They ARE gorgeous! I love that you take these greyhounds, the racing regulation debacle continues in NSW.
I totally get how they can consume your life, I have a new Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever puppy, have done nothing since I got him! ♥️
PS he loves to lick Shalimar Cologne off my wrists!

How cute is your dog, and a Shalimar fan. LOVE IT!

          Three must be a handful.

  2. Thank you for rescuing these lovely dogs. I rescued a racehorse off the track while still racing 19 years ago. He is my life partner. I adore him.

  3. This made my day! So happy for the dogs, for they have found great people to care for them. So happy for the two of you, for you have found unconditional love and slurpy dog kisses.

    • He He He JanLast,
We are trying very hard already to train Jinx out of slurpy doggy kisses. BLEACH. He is so wet and drippy.
In all other ways perfect though, of course.

  4. They are so beautiful, Portia. Thank you for saving them! I had 2 lovely Italian greyhounds that I adored. They are both deceased now and I am contemplating adopting a big greyhound myself. Keep us updated with pictures.

  5. I’m already wondering which signature fragrances they will wear. What a lucky pair of puppies to be in such a beautiful smelling household.

    • HA! That is quite the question.
When I get my dogs groomed I have to beg the groomer not to perfume them. I really feel that my fragrance should stand out. He He he.

I’m so glad you love the names. We went through quite a few before they liked these.

    • Hi RobertH,
I don’t have the states at hand right now but somewhere in the vicinity of 15,000 greyhounds are euthenased in Australia before their 3rd birthday because they aren’t fast enough. That’s only the ones that the board gets told about, most of the dogs don’t even get a name till they are track ready.
They are seen as a commodity, not as a pet. Different rules apply. I suppose they think of them as we think of sheep or cattle.
      Thanks, we are thrilled too.

  9. That’s great news Portia! They are beautiful and they will surely enrich your lives. It was a brave decision though to take two dogs at once. Greyhounds are not very common around here so I’m looking forward to more pictures.
I wish you plenty of joy with Paris and Jinx and don’t forget to blog every now and then 😉

    • Hey Neva,
TBH it was a defensive decision. One dog can easily get bored but two can keep each other company.
Training is a bit harder with two but once that’s over we should be home free.

  10. Congrats! I have a three year old greyhound Bobby. We got him almost 12 months ago. He is an ex-racer who was injured. Thank goodness for him and us he had one of the ethical owners who handed him over to a rescue group. My first greyhound and I can’t ever go back to any other breed of dog now…I’m betting you won’t either xx

    • Hey Lynda,
We had a magnificent blonde Greyhound girl for 10 years (Gucci) and fostered 5 others during that time. Sadly she had to be put down in January and we were devastated. Jin wanted to get another so much and though I’m really not ready for all the work I am enjoying having fur babies to cuddle again.
I can’t even think of having another breed, nothing else seems right.
