Hello my dear Fragrant Community,

In times of great global upheaval, be it political financial or social, people often look inwards and we tend to surround ourselves with things and people that can offer comfort and succor. For many of us that manifests in the perfumes we choose to wear, a scent that reminds us of a safer time in our lives, gentler living instead of days full of stress and drama

For me it seems that I favor vintage and vintage-style perfumes. Perfumes that remind me of my dressed-up-cocktail-party-dab-of-Patou Mother or maybe the wet tweed/leather and spicy green fougere or aquatic cologne of my Father, and later my own all-night drug-fueled party and disco dancing nights at the gay bars of pre-AIDS San Francisco. A very heady time and place indeed when anything was possible and everything was available.

So recently reaching blindly into my decant box, I pulled out one of one new Tom Ford Private Selections called Vert Boheme, and honest to god it was exactly the blanket of comfort I needed and was searching for! Serendipity at its finest.

Vert Boheme by Tom Ford 2016

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Galbanum, mandarin, magnolia, honeysuckle, muguet, violet leaf, gustavia superba (heaven lotus), oakmoss, vetiver, white musk

Vert Boheme is a very green and waxy smelling white floral, almost the love-child of Jean Patou Joy and Chanel 19 or Cristalle. It opens on my skin with a huge blast of bitter green galbanum, tempered quickly by sweet citrus and floral honeysuckle and lily of the valley. Staying quite linear it all settles down into an almost cologne-like watery floral and mossy scent reminiscent of a men’s scent from the late 60’s or early 70’s. The heaven lotus adds a level of early glamorous indolic beauty that is prominent thru the drydown.

Since the 70’s was my “coming-of-age” era, that’s very likely why it resonates with me so profoundly on so many levels. It feels as familiar to me as a well worn pair of bell bottom jeans and platform shoes, reminding me so much of “home” and a happy time in my life, that it almost brings me to tears with the memory of my parents and my own foolish youthful days.

Nothing groundbreaking but beautiful none the less and a welcome addition to my fragrance wardrobe.

  1. I follow APJ on Twitter and via WordPress.

I would wear Vert Boheme wearing Tom Ford suit, that’s if I suddenly found a spare few thousands down the back of the sofa. Alternately if I was feeling frolicsome I would wear that white caped frock Gwyneth wore to the Oscars in 2012. I would look very glamorous going through a McDonalds drive-thru dressed like that.

  2. I follow APJ by WordPress and email. I would wear Vert Boheme with a white pant suit like Bianca when she married Mick…. with some Gold jewellery long fine chains, lots of gloss.. Tom Ford of course, but me at 22 with a great figure and long golden wavy hair…nothing groundbreaking but still glamorous I hope.

  4. This is a fragrance I’ve been coveting for a while… I’ve recently rediscovered my love for white flowers and I really have a huge thing for greens so this is right up my perfume alley!

I would wear a diaphanous Camilla kaftan in greens and sea blues with a little gold, magenta and violet for an injection of fun, barefoot, naturally, a garland of magnolias and frangipani in my hair. And a smile…

I follow via email, also facebook ❤

I would go back to my 22 yr old self in my early 80s clubbing days in Texas, when I had a great figure and full on big hair. Brown leotard with a vintage 60s leather patchwork mini that had a full brass zipper up the side and my Maud Frisson cone heeled pumps. My god I loved those shoes. Thanks for the chance!

    • Wait. Tell me about the poor boy top! That’s new to me! All I could think of was the sandwich, and I KNOW that’s not what you meant! Xoxo

  6. Hi Robert and thanks for the giveaway. Last weekend I was at a huuuuuuge disco festival with 70-ies and 80-ies music only. It was the best evening/night of 2016 for me. I simply adore those times and miss them much too. I’d wear TFs Vert Boheme with a synthetic floral patterned mini dress with a belt, white overknee boots and wear a hair band and black smoky eyes to look like Twiggy back then.

    • Neva!!! That sounds like so much fun. My dancing these days are limited to about 20 minutes at a time, before having to sit down with a bottle of water! LOL! Xoxo

  8. This one is interesting, because I’d like to know whether vintage perfumes cause me headaches because of now-forbidden ingredients, or because of the style of scent. Thanks for the giveaway; I follow by e-mail. I’m not sure what would go well with this scent, but I expect it would be horrifically low-cut, shimmery, and floor-length, with a fair number of heavy gold chains. Hmm. This is a fun imagination exercise. I should do this with the scents I already have!

  17. I follow by e-mail. Since I’m not very bohemian, but like maxi skirts and long dresses, I think I would look for the blue kaftan with elaborate embrodery my mother sometimes wore at parties around 1975. Something imported from Afghanistan, I think. But back then it was always worn with a French perfume, nothing bohemian about the perfumes or the parties!

I love galbanum and floral scents with a lot of green, so curious about this one.

  20. With a long, summery dress, my hair out and all beachy-looking, flat sandals, dangly earrings, a bunch of chunky bangles up my arm, green eye liner, and beautiful sun-kissed skin (because I’m ignoring reality and pretending I don’t get burnt really easily). Bliss!

Thank you for the draw, I follow by email 🙂
