Amora EdP by Hans Hendley 2016

Good Day APJ, Wake up, Christmas is over and we survived!!

It´s impossible to keep up with all the small perfume houses and independent artisanal perfumers. I see names come and go on social media, or on other blogs and pay little attention. However Hans Hendley´s name is popping up a lot and I felt prompted to look a little further. I took the plunge and ordered the 9ml travel size of Amora, his most recent launch. I had to wait a while as the first batch was sold out. I rather like the idea of someone so passionate about perfume that they bother to formulate, blend and bottle the potion themselves. After all, that´s how I run my own business.

BALMY BERRIES ON BONGS – I did Inhale. YUM!!

Amora EdP by Hans Hendley 2016

amora-hendley-perfumes-fragranticaFragrantica

Hensley Perfumes gives these featured accords:
Stone fruit, mixed berries, rose absolute, blonde tobacco, sweet resins, musk complex, ambergris

A couple of years ago I I wrote of Sådanne, the astounding strawberries-on-crack scent by Slumberhouse. Hendley´s Amora reminds me of the experience, but here we have balmy berries on bongs. It´s tantalising and impossible to stop inhaling. The sillage will leave noses quivering in your wake. There is something more alternative lying beneath the fruity opening, a kind of salty resinous layer, resting on musk maybe? I understand there is a touch of ambergris in the formula too. Gorgeous on a bloke as well I must say.

Amora stands alone out of the new releases of 2016. The many that have the same dry down with the same woody accords that freak my nose out and have me running? These accords don´t seem to appear in American perfumery, very interesting. Quite daring to launch a fruity scent as an artisanal perfumer don´t you think? This is underground though, don´t confuse it with the mainstream fruit bombs please.

Of course it might not be your thing, but you don´t know until you´ve tried it now do you? Hans Hendley offers affordability, a wonderful sample service, and brilliant customer relations. APJ, I wanted to put Hendley Perfumes onto your radar. That is part of our responsibilty as bloggers I think. You are more than welcome. 🙂

And for those of you who are still too exhausted from your festivities to move much, look no further. With thanks to Hans Hendley, and my love of going to the post office we have one of the 9ml travel sprays to giveaway. Check below.

  1. I had a look at the Hendley website and they have some glowing reviews from the likes of Luca Turin. Also, I like gourmand frags and this sounds pretty edible! Follow by email. 🙂

  2. berries on a bong!! That is unusual in itself! I don’t think I’ve come across the combination of berries and tobacco? Maybe it’s already been created before but I’ve never heard of it. I’m curious what it would smell like. Fruity and smoky?? What notes will be more dominating on my skin?
    Hmmm so wanna try!
Thanks for being it to our attention! I do appreciate it.
Follow by email and so forth..

  3. I follow via email and it is so hard to get niche/Indie perfumes from the USA to Down Under. I have a friend in a different state who is in the USA for holidays and he has been singing praises of Amora. I have very few perfumes that has fruity notes except Peau de Peche by Keiko Mecheri, so I am keen to try something that has oodles of berries. Thanks for the giveaway.

  4. I must have come across Hans Hendley on one of the perfume blogs, and when I was on my way to NYC I sent him a message asking where I could try his scents. He personally delivered a sample set to my hotel. So sweet! And the next time I came to town, he came out to meet me, and hand over a bottle of Rosenthal. Had a great time sniffing our way around Twisted Lily together. So yeah, he’s both an adorable guy and a very talanted perfumer, and I am always looking forward to his next release. Amora is no exception, as I am sure Hans can kick the freaky fruity genre up a notch! (I have APJ in my RSS feed.)

  5. “The many that have the same dry down with the same woody accords that freak my nose out and have me running? ” That right there. So many perfumes have certain woody accords that don’t work for me. This one NOT having that makes me want to try it. Plus, it sounds delicious!
I follow by email. Thanks for the draw.

  6. This sounds like the sort of thing I’d try to achieve by layering as I haven’t found it yet! I love smokey and salty ( loved the saltiness to Womanity ). I love woodsmoke and I love fruit, I could just nuzzle a bowl of redcurrants and blackberries right now…. I also like that the creator of the perfume follows through with the whole process. Now I’ve talked myself into needing this! I follow by emailxx

  7. I do not usually like berries and fruit. I am looking for one that I like that flips my switch as a few did with vanilla and patchouli for me, which I loathed (but no more). What interests me about this is the richness and depth that would be offered by the rose absolute, blonde tobacco, sweet resins, musk complex, and ambergris (all of which I adore).

  8. Hi, thanks for the review and opportunity! I follow by RSS.
This scent is intriguing because it’s outside my comfort zone and it’s good to be open to new things. I usually avoid fruit in perfume but the last half of 2016 I suddenly fell in love with gourmand scents – never say never – and you do make this sound irresistible, Val.

  9. I follow by e-mail. What interests me about this is I don’t eat berries. Not any kind, never have. But I do fancy some berry fragrances out there such as Blackbird and Mure et Musc. 🙂

  10. Hi hello from Miami following threw email.
I have really not been open to fruits on my scents but once I smelled Bat by zoologists I was totally open to it infact I encourage my friends to start using more fruit notes in their perfumes, the tabbaco and the resins mixed in with the fruits must be to die for and if I win I will give it a go every so often and make it my go to scent for sure them notes all together must be real good and unusual smell, I love dearing smells earthy naturals and omg sillage heaven
    I just can’t get enough

    Amen.

Fruity without being a fruit bomb is reason enough. Smokey & salty too? I sall wear this and become alluring & filled with mystique.

  12. Hi Val, I actually like berries only as food. In perfume, berries to me are mostly either too sweet (Angel Eau Sucree, La Petite Robe Noire flankers…) or too cold, like in Multiple Rouge (Humiecki&Graeff). I’d love to try them “balmy” and “salty”.
Wishing you too a lovely holiday season!

  13. I follow by email. Is it okay that I’m interested in the fragrance despite the berries? I’ve been off of fruity notes lately. A friend who’s not quite as into perfumes even told me about Hendley, so he must be pretty remarkable.

  20. Thanks for the Hans Hendley AMORA review. I too saw Hans Hendley on Facebook perfume groups & once he posted for TAMA being limited & discontinued, so I took the opportunity & bought via my relative in US, which I received last week. Impressive perfume house. Would like to try this new launch AMORA.

  21. Hey Val! DNEM but I am so glad you’ve found Han’s work!! I’ve been a huge proponent of his perfumes for two years now, wonderful range and a really great guy!

Just got a bottle of his Bourbon which seems to have been sold out forever but is now back in stock. LOVE Auric, Jade, and Tama. Just a great line through and through, and the new travel sizes are PERFECT! Happy New Year to you and yours xoxo

  22. Val, thanks for reminding me that I need to try Hans Hendley’s perfumes one of these days! You are absolutely right that it’s impossible to keep up with all the indie brands that come and go, but this one seems to be here to stay. Berries on bongs with salt and resins? Sounds like just the thing to wear as we try to find the strength to deal with 2017! Thank you for the draw!

  23. This perfume sounds odd but interesting! I follow by email, and frankly, eschew “berry scents” in most forms. I love woods, resins, ambers, and my problem with Angel by TM is that my nose morphs the patch into “cold winter red berries.” So, that’s why I would love to try this. On the other hand, the soul of summer is black berry picking in July, and sniffing deeply the colander of berries in the heat–sublime. Thank you for the giveaway. I’m off to spritz the gift of Chanel l’eau I received this year.

I’d like to get Amora as I’m a gourmand perfumes lover. A while ago there wad an article at Fragrantica about Hendley ‘s perfumes and Amora seemed to be the most appealing, I went directly to the website to buy and..it was sold out ((( Now it seems it’s high time to get another chance to test it)))

  26. Love this review and I follow through email. This fragrance interest me because I am a fruity scent obsessed fragrance buyer, which is why I have so many, but also I have never heard of blond tabocco before and the mixture of berries, musk and blind tabocco realy intrigues me! I really want to know how a fragrance like this smells especially with my body chemistry and also to my nose which doesn’t really like strong scents, but like you said you never know til you try it! This also seems like it would be great for the cold winter months. Happy Holidays!

I can’t wear mainstream fruit bombs! They are ghastly sickly on me so I would love the opportunity to try something that will suit me better; this sounds like fruit with the stones left in it!

Thanks so much and Happy New Year.

  32. Val, you had me at Balmy Berries on Bongs…

This would be perfect for when the strawberry farm near my parents’ house is not in season and I can’t get my hands on the fruit itself (amazing berries, nothing like the cardboard ones from the supermarket) – I could still enjoy the beautiful aroma (with some added extras!) that makes me smile, regardless of whatever else is going on in my life.

Thank you for the draw and happy new year! I follow by email.

I am always afraid that fruity fragrance dont fit to women in my age any more but I have a friend and she still prefers this kind of fragrances. I would like to try Amora. That picture above (inhaling fruit) reminds me how I love a smell of strawberries! One of the best natural scent around. I follow your blog via bloglovin. (plus email lubaska at hotmail)

  34. Thank you for the giveaway – this is one of the scents on my test list, and I would be really grateful for the opportunity to try it! The combo of berries and ambergris (something salty) really intrigues me. I recently ordered a sample of Fraaagola Saalaaata Hilde Soliani for a similar reason, the salty strawberry combo! Plus they both sound different to all of those usual fruity/floral offerings out there 🙂

Thanks again, Rachel (I follow via email)
