Fed Up With Fragrance? Perfumed Apathy!

Hello APJ Readers!

The very fact that you are reading this already shows that you are at least one step beyond a normal person. Normal as in spritz and go and pay no attention at all to what you are wearing. I sometimes wish I could be like that, but there is not turning back is there? It is a very real part of the perfume junkie obsessive compulsive disorder, well mine at least. Analysing fragrances can be so exhausting.

Apathy set in a couple of months ago. I´m like, so bored with all this perfume stuff. I have some beautiful perfumes, but just haven´t been feeling the groove. However that most certainly does not mean I have wanted to stop wearing fragrance. That is a point I have not yet reached! I don´t feel properly dressed without perfume and probably never will, it brings great joy.

Fed Up With Fragrance? Perfumed Apathy!

MY CURRENT GRAB AND GO, NO ANALYSING OR DISSECTING NECESSARY FAVES

Fragrantica

CHANEL N°5 Parfum

After years of not having renewed my bottle of this I bought one at the end of last year. Am now half way through it. Sensual, rich and exquisite. Not to be confused with any other version of N°5. This is not all about aldehydes, we are talking vetiver, sandalwood, vanilla, amber …….. Divine. Try it if you haven´t.

Fragrantica

CHANEL Boy EdP

Definitely a rare spray and go for me. Heliotrope, vanilla and musk. Hints of lavender and fruits. Lovely.

Fragrantica

Vero Profumo Kiki Extrait

So familiar with Kiki that it melts into my skin and just becomes a part of me. Luscious lavender, caramelised musks, patchouli, ambergris. Stunning.

Fragrantica

Hermes Osmanthe Yunnan

Came to this beauty extremely late. I only have a 15ml travel bottle and will be purchasing a full bottle. Have only worn it in the winter months. Smoked tea, apricot, bright, juicy, and yet resting on a bed of suede. A vibe of elegance and simplicity. Gorgeous.

But fear not! I am off to the Esxence in a month. Not only is NAJA, the new Vero Profumo ready for launch, but rumour has it I will be picking Portia up from the airport too. Coma sniffing, bring it on.

What do you wear when you´re kind of fed up with it all?

  1. Too early in the addiction for this to happen to me…only 4 months of fumie obsession so far. But my no-brainer to date if I need something to grab and go and I haven’t got time to think about it is Chanel Bois de Iles.

  2. Great post Val,
I love a Boy spritz too when I can’t decide or need a spritz & go. otherwise any of my faves will do.

  3. I’m never fed up either. Too many goodies to wear to suit every mood. I think when I am down or can’t choose, I go to roses every time.

    • Hi Gina! I haven’t exactly been fed up, maybe I have too many strenuous perfumes! Hahahahaha!! xxxx

  4. Great article! I hope you all have a blast and I can’t wait to hear about NAJA and your escapades in Italy!! When I can’t decide but can’t leave the house un-scented (the horror!) I spritz Isabel by Tocca, Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche or Accord Chic by Yves Rocher – always pretty and appropriate!

    • Hey Cyndi! Great to see you. I am so excited to be able to attend the launch of NAJA and will probably get a chance to be on Vero´s stand for a few hours over the days! Whoo Hooo!! You know, my skin holds onto fragrance for hours, and I mean hours. EdTs that seem to last two hours on some, go for eighteen hours on me That I think is why it is sometimes hard to know what to chose. Perfumes can take over my whole day and that can be too much. Anyway, we are all totally spoiled, that is the real truth of it. Love, Val xxxxxx

  5. I tire of new launches from the niche sector and the mainstream but don’t imagine ever tiring of wearing perfume. It’s too good. I’m continuing to cut down my collection though it’s really not big by our non-normal standards. I want to re-invest in artisan perfumes – like NAJA!
Spritz-and-go perfumes… La Fille de Berlin, Passage d’Enfer, Tobacco Rose…

    • Exactly. Which reminds me, I must steal LFDB from Hannah and try it myself. It´s really her signature scent and that is probably why I haven´t. I LOVE it. No, I will never tire of perfume either, it completes me. xxxx

  6. I feel perfumed apathy when I expect too much of new samples and nothing really excites me for months. I always have my stabilizing perfumes to make me feel ok again: Clinique Wrappings and Feminite du Bois.
Val and Portia on the loose in Esxence – WOW, cant’t wait to hear more of it!

    • Neva! Hi there. I like three in a hundred new samples, and that is being generous. I have a dream that one day someone will give me an original bottle of FdB, or that Shiseido will relaunch it. I mean come on …….. YES! Me and Portia at the Esxence, is a dream come true. We should balance each other well. He likes most things, and I like nearly nothing. 😉 xxxxxx

  7. I hear you on the apathy, and find all the razzmatazz surrounding new launches that are in fact just ‘same old, same old’ in souped up packaging quite wearing. You will never catch me at a trade fair in my present frame of mind, but I hope you enjoy your ‘targeted strike’ on this one!

But I still love perfume and find a lot of comfort and cheer from near daily wearing of it. (I have been known to forget. 😉 ) I really don’t have ‘go-to’ perfumes as such but I found myself reaching for Prada Candy twice in the past week. Partly in a bid to drain the decant and create more room in my bursting sample drawer!

  8. I am totally over new launches that underwhelm and just loving on what I already own. Today it’s Amouage Beloved. Very excited to hear Naja is finally being launched!

    • Beloved is quite beautiful. I know, Naja has had a few technical hiccups along the way. I too am totally excited, it is Vero at her best, or m maybe better. 😉 xxxx

  9. Yes, sometimes I am just tired and/or indecisive. Chanel No. 5 L’Eau works well then, as do any of the NR for Her scents, or Lovely body lotion, or JHaG Lady Vengeance. Or MFK Lumiere Noire. Or…

    • Hey maggiecat! That´s it. It is a cross between tired and indecisive. My daughter wears the L’Eau, and it really is lovely. I just don´t like to steal her stuff. Although she has no problems taking mine! 😉

  11. I go through these phases of not wanting to wear anything, or being overwhelmed with all of it, or just wanting to not be distracted with it while trying to focus. Then I also have issues with family aging that wears on me and the gloom of winter, and all that crap. What I actually like is that then I am famished for great stuff again. When I’m in a mood to leave it alone I will frequently grab either Carthusia Via Camarelle, Atelier Trefle Pur, or Chanel Cuir de Russie or Vero’s Rozy Extrait. They are second skins on me, and I love how effortless they are. I feel finished then. So the exhaustion of decision goes away. I can’t wait to hear of your voyage to Italy and he launch of Naja.

    • Barbara! How nice to see you here. I am overwhelmed sometimes yeah. And I don´t even have a big collection compared to many of the other Perfume OCD Crew. CdR EdT? Yes, I find that effortless too. Actually most of the Chanels fall into that category. Rozy Extrait is my “I am a proper perfumista” scent and I spend all day revelling int it. Meaning that is not a spritz/dab and go for me. The EdP is better. Oh man, I think I will wear all three today ……. 🙂 xxxxxxx

  12. Hey Val! I love wearing perfume but now find myself seeking out samples of what interests me. I am no longer eager to try everything. In order to get me through my days I have a couple of perfumes that I turn to more frequently – Dior Bois d’Argent and Guerlain Cuir Beluga come to mind. Have a great time in Milan. Sandra xo

    • Sandra! I only ever think of you whenI smell Cuir Beluga. I really need to get a few mls of it and wear it properly. I am very sure I will need a vacation after Milan. Having Portia along side me will make it quite different this year. That is if I even get to see him, I know a lot of people are looking forward to meeting PTG in real life!! Big hugs to you all. xxx

So many good perfumes and so many I need to try, it’s all part of an adventure for me. My current go to favs are Opium, joy and rive gauche….actually it’s been a long time 😂

  14. The only thing I’m tired of is hunting for perfumes to try. Had I have a steady stream of new perfumes coming my way, I’d be testing a new one every day (in the evening, after wearing my favorites during the day).
