Black Perfecto: La Petit Robe Noir by Thierry Wasser for Guerlain 2017

Hey there Frag Crew,

Recently while purchasing Black Perfecto the SA asked me if I wanted extras for a giveaway! I was so freaking chuffed that she recognised me from my previous begging visits. It was nice, she was nice and I got Black Perfecto. Now honesty compels me to mention that I only bought it because of the bottle. Yes, I’m disgusting but cum’on, it’s freaking gorgeous.

Fragrantica

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Sour cherry, almond, black tea
Heart: Rose, liquorice
Base: Leather, musk, patchouli, tonka bean

So yes, Black perfecto opens noxious, the first minute is quite overwhelming. Once the crazy settles I’m left with a plastic and sour cherry that surprisingly leaves the taste in my mouth of a cherry flavoured tea infusion. The almond is real and the liquorice noticeable too. It’s kind of medicinal, like cough mixture and band aids. I like how the whole fragrance dries out in the heart like biscuit base.

AND THEN IT HITS ME

Black Perfecto smells and tastes like the slices of mass made cherry cheesecake that look so incredibly delicious in the window and are invariably a slightly plastic version of the real deal.

PDI

Is Black Perfecto bad? Nope, I like it. Will I ever go through my 50ml? Probably not. To be honest I think Mon Guerlain a much better fragrance and I would choose to spritz it ahead almost always.

That bottle though! It is PERFECTO!

  1. Dearest Portia- yes, the bottle is gorgeous.. the lettering, beautiful.. black, what is not to like? but that name though.. urgh… It just hit me what it reminds me of: The Fonz… uttering “perfectemundo”….no disrepect for the Fonz, obviously, but.. you know…

  2. I like this bottle – but Guerlain has used many much more beautiful bottls in my opinion. My favourite is my La Prairie Silver Rain Bottle – don’t wear the fragrance much anymore, but that silver raindrop is perfection. I follow via FB & Email

  3. I bought the 30ml, also for the bottle. However I absolutely love the perfume and am gonna go for the LPRN Extrait very soon.
Do people realise its named after the black leather motorcycle jacket, first introduced in 1928. Made über-cool by Brando and the Ramones, amongst others?
Back to my oven. Bussis. 🖤

  4. I always wanted to try this but have been disappointed in modern Guerlain. Caron tops them, IMO. My fave bottle? Hmmm, I don’t really buy for bottles. I buy for juice. I think some of my fave are my Roja and my Boadicea. But I love the caps of others like Vivienne Westwood’s Boudoir. Some of my vintage Guerlains are gorgeous.

  6. Portia Try comparing this with Slumberhouse ZAHD that came out a couple of years ago. The whole batch sold out in less than 24 hours. I can decant a sample for you if you cant find any.

    • Hi George,
I had a bottle of Zahd but sold it on. Something in the base turned Jin’s stomach.

  7. Following the description, I don’t think I’d like Black Perfecto. I’m no fan of LPRN in general. It’s sticky sweet for my taste, but the rose-liquorice combo sounds interesting.
My favourite bottle from my perfume collection is Tiempe Passate. It’s a bit retro with a girly touch. I love the flower shaped cap so much.

  9. Email. A bottle of Avon timeless. It’s not particularly pretty, and I don’t really care for the juice, but it was my grandmother’s so I will cherish it like treasure.

  10. It’s such a great looking box and bottle. I’m iffy on almond notes but your review makes it sound delicious. I’ve not tried LPRN or ant of the flankers or Mon Guerlain so winning would be fantastic. I follow via email. My favorite bottle I own is Kingdom. Then Midnight in Paris.

  11. One of my favourites is the preformulation Tiffany edp which is so rich and lush and expensive smelling although not exactly up there with the niche names! I am now so tempted to get Black Perfecto after reading your cheesecake reference. I follow you on email and WP blog.

  13. Hi Portia and thanks for the opportunity. I follow by email.

My favourite of the bottles I have is probably Marc Rosen’s Shanghai, with the heavy red base and delicate top. I also have the blue/green Missoni, which is lovely.

Like Monsie, I love the Silver Rain bottle but have never had a chance to see or try this one, but it remains on my list, and I saw a few Lalique bottles on Ozsale recently that are beautiful.

  14. Ho Portia,

Great review. I’ve been wondering what this was like. I haven’t really liked the whole range to be honest. I was keeping an open mind about this one, but I’m just so over sticky gourmands so i may pass on this one. I agree about the bottle though- it’s fabbaluss! xxx

  15. Hi Portia,
Thanks for the great review; I have not been a fan of the whole LPRN line so I may have missed this one, but now I feel like I must give it a sniff. The bottle is quite striking! I am not too keen on sweet scents, but am also curious about Mon Parfum.

I follow by email and I think that my favorite bottle is the Guerlain QVLP dew drop bottle.

  19. Similar to you, Portia I’m attracted to many things by their packaging. Occasionally practicality is second rate lol. with regard to fragrance, my very favourite bottle is a close tie between my gold Guerlain canister with contains Jicky, and my bottle of Jungle l’ Elephant

  20. I def. think I love black bottles, too and if hypothetically I start a perfume brand, I would def. be drawn to the idea of using black bottles for my perfumes. It is hard to choose a favorite bottle in my collection and my answer may change every day but today I will choose Kouros vintage splash version. The bottle is white, splash version has cap so no visible spray hole, and it looks and feels like ceramic. I follow APJ by facebook and email.

Having a hard time choosing my favourite bottle from my collection, but L’Air du Temps is a stunner, and Midnight in Paris would be up there, and I have a soft spot for Marni.

  23. I’m really curious if I’m going to like this one. People seem pretty disparate on their opinions of it. Thanks for the giveaway! My favorite bottle in my collection is of Mohur. I love the way it fits in my hand, and also love the extravagant packaging 🙂

  24. Hi Portia, That bottle is lovely. I think my favorite in my own collection is Iris Nazarena, and I would love to have one of those Aedes de Venustas bottles in every color—I think they’ve done something like eight perfumes by now?—but that’s the only one I’ve loved so far. The latest, Pélargonium, doesn’t sound like quite my style but I will sample it just because of the gorgeous ruby red bottle. I follow by email.

  25. Hi Portia,

I have a sample so no need to enter me in the giveaway and I luuuurve Black Perfecto. Given I love the 2012 LPRN EdP that provably isn’t a surprise (it us one of my fav comfort/sleeping frags and was my intro to Guerlain). That opening blast is almost quince like to my nose and swoon-worthy.

My fav bottle us probably the Hermes Galop silver stirrup bottle. Gorgeous and solid to handle and just unique.
