Hello Fellow Fumies,

Every Saturday we have a Question, an idea purloined from Olfactoria’s Travels. Everyone gets to chime in with an answer, chat with other responders and it is a fun event each week. Taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

The idea is you’ll see it on the weekend or chime in through the week. Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a $10 Surrender To Chance Gift Card.
Over 200 responses I will draw a $20 Surrender To Chance Gift Card.
Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Friday.

Saturday Question:

What Do You Love To Smell On Your Closest Peeps?

I’ve been thinking about this a bit lately. My friends aren’t as into fragrance as I am. There are some notable exceptions though that are. It’s always interesting to me what they choose to spritz themselves with. There are some things that I love to smell on them and they instantly create a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart when I give them a hug and their wearing my faves for them.

So today I want us to talk about all our closest peeps, family, friends, significant others or even a mate at the office who sometimes smells particularly awesome.

My Answer:

Obviously Jin is the person I get to smell close up the most often. He is my partner, we live together, eat, socialise, shop and travel together regularly. Most days will have me in his orbit and close enough to grab a whiff. I get super happy when he wears Bottega Veneta original EdP. When I fell madly in love with it and was going to buy it for myself he decided he should get it so I could smell it on him. GREAT idea, it smells absolutely amazing on him and I always get a rush of pleasure when he is wafting it.

He also smells unbelievably gorgeous in Neela Vermeire Creations Bombay Bling. This is a double win for me because I get to sniff Jin smelling wonderful and it also reminds me of our beautiful friend Neela.

Fragrantica

My BFF Kath wears a few scents but two of them stand out for me particularly. Brecourt Haram (now called Farah) was something she fell in love with while we were on a trip down top Melbourne and had dropped into Peony Melbourne. She bought a bottle then and I was lucky enough to grab a couple on sale so keep her supplied. There is something glorious about Kath in honeyed spices drizzled over amber and patchouli. It smells fabulous. She also wears Givenchy Play but it never really registers on me, I know she smells good but it’s a background good.

Fragrantica

Another BFF is Alice, she has two scents that I instantly recognise as her when I go in for a hug. CHANEL Coco is one. The spicy oriental whoosh of it upon her lady like person is quite the oxymoron. Then she speaks and suddenly it all makes sense. Her other perfect scent is Emporia Armani She, this sweet citrus floriental actually is the smell of Alice. Somehow they managed to grab exactly what she should smell like and then make sure she got it. LOADS of it, she has truckloads of it just in case.

My Saturday Question to you is:

  1. Great question Portia!
My dear & closest one had to be persuaded over the years to wear any perfume at all, now he even has more than one…! Yay !!
The ones I love best on him are Fahrenheit Absolute, Caron Le 3′ Homme and Gucci Homme vintage (hard to find).
I’d love for him to wear several others, but I will have to be very patient… 😀

    Have a lovely weekend!

    • Hey Fanny,
Isn’t Caron Le 3′ Homme beautiful? What an incredible scent. You’ve inspired me to search one out for Jin, I think he’l love it too.
Good luck, you’re fighting a winning battle.

  2. My dearest is old-school and traditional; he smells great in original Old Spice! In my olfactory explorations, though, I’ve come across a few scents that I think would be smashing on him, so he may be getting one or two for Christmas this year. We shall see if I can persuade him to enlarge his range! One I particularly want him to try is Dasein Winter, which has a really great lavender note combined with pine. I have a feeling his skin will react differently than mine to many scents, as his skin is usually much warmer than mine. I may also ambush him with some SL Vitriol d’Oeillet: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/tag/vitriol-doeillet/.

    • OMG Azsa,
We use that here quite a bit too. Jin just finished a Mysore Sandalwood Soap bar this week and I replaced it with something different, can’t remember what but YES, love that stuff.

  3. I would love to smell all kinds of nice perfumes on my husband. Sadly he is not a “fragrance guy” . But I do have 2 that I have convinced him to occasionally wear. Guerlain Myrhh et delires and Frederic Malle Bois d’orate. Honestly though.. the solid deodorant that he wears smells amazing on him! lol!

  4. Hi Portia,

Santal Majascule is a thin thing on me but is devastatingly beautiful on my handsome one, so it was for my own pleasure that I gave him my bottle.
His skin seems to attenuate sweet notes, and somehow make everything richer. On him, Body Kouros is unbelievably sexy – and can you believe it, even elegant?
I feel more than a little insecure when my he wears Lempicka au Masculin and I’m not around. Seriously. I’ve asked him not to wear it to work, but to keep it only for me. (A shameful admission, I know. 😦 )

    • Hey Kes,
Body Kouros is an unsung hero. Anyone who smells good in it smells freaking Ah May Zing.
HA I love that he smells so good in Lolita Lempicka au Masculin that you make him wear it only at home. Heaven.

  5. My mister wears nothing but soap…but every once in a while he allows me to spray Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt on his abdomen 🙂

The younger members of the household wear lots of stuff but the eldest I associate with Peony & Suede Blush, the middle with anything having to do with vanilla, lavender or sandalwood and the youngest with Lime Basil & Mandarin and 1000 Flowers Ode for Him.

  6. I think the ones I would enjoy on others, I may never get to sniff on them. I wonder if I will ever come across someone who is wearing Shiseido Feminite Du Bois or Dioressence Esprit de Parfum or even vintage Poison. I have not even smelled modern Poison on anyone. I wonder who really buys Poison because Dior still sells it.

    • You need to drop around here to smell vintage Poison on someone. I’ll drown myself in it Fazal.

  7. hi APJ! My family and friends are mostly scentless. A few special occasion scents here and there, but nobody has a signature scent these days. My mum grows lavender in her garden and uses essential oils. I love that smell.

  8. My partner has his own shelf in my perfume closet& Most of his perfumes are for him exclusively (I order couple of samples for him every time I order for myself) because he’s more keen on citrus and aquatic, particularly oceanic notes… but we share some perfumes like Tom of Finland or Smoke for the Soul.

  9. My guy wore Virgin Island Water all summer. It’s such a happy, uplifting fragrance and I think it’s great. Now that we’re into October, he’s still wearing it regularly so I’ll have to introduce something more fall weather appropriate.

  10. Love smelling on others: (and myself…but I don’t have the Burberry)
    – FM Portrait of a Lady
    – Dior Addict
    – Burberry Brit Burberry for Women

  11. My husband smells gorgeous and classy in Guerlain’s Heritage. Just bought him another bottle for Christmas.

My BFF’s signature scent is EL’s Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia – I couldn’t wear that in a million years (like an ice pick to my brain), but on her it is so good.

What I can’t stand smelling on anyone at all is La Vie est Belle or anything similar – nauseatingly sweet to my nose. And yet so popular – it obviously likes other people’s noses!

  12. I’m happy to see that I managed to pass on the love for perfume to many of my friends and family members 🙂
My sister smells great in Hermes Un Jardin sur le Nil, my mum’s signature scent is FM Portrait of a Lady but she also smells terrific in Eau de Shalimar and L’Air du Desert Marocain (as well as in Tauer’s new “L’Eau”!)
Tardes by Carner is the most favourite among my friends, three of them wear it frequently, one even chose it as her wedding scent. More great fumes on my friends: Bal d’Afrique, Theorema, Chergui, Infusion d’Iris.

  13. I have a much more grandiose scheme: I want ALL men in sniffing distance to try L’Instant Pour Homme just once. If they don’t like it fine, but I’d like a good 10% uptake.

  14. When it comes to people outside of my household, mostly I’m happy when they wear any perfume: not that much because of the scent itself but mostly because people who wear any perfumes tend not to object to perfumes that I wear 🙂

As to my vSO, while I consult him on perfumes that I buy for him (he doesn’t like all of the perfumes, so some selection is going on), when it comes to wearing, he’ll wear whatever I pray on him from “his” collection 🙂 So I’m enjoying on him some Atelier Cologne’s perfumes – Bois Blonds, Santal Carmin and Trefle Pur; Amouage Journey, Terre d’Hermes and all the Tom Fords, which I feel to bee too masculine for me to wear – Tuscan Leather, Tobaco Oud and a couple more.

    • Hey Undina,
He is lucky to have such a curator as yourself. what a sensational line up.
I very nearly bought Santal Carmin this week, now I wish i had.

  15. I’m a bit restricted because my wife is not much of a perfume-wearer. Her current choice of scent is Heeley Ophelia, so I guess I have had to learn to like that one. Fortunately I didn’t find that at all hard; it’s a really good white floral.

    • Thank goodness her one choice is fabulous Greg. Lucky it wasn’t some screechy headache inducing nasty.

  16. My person smells great in Thé Noir, which doesn’t wear well on me. Also the boozy Frank, number 3 I think. For work he tends to go with Creed’s Original Vetiver, which is delicious but usually gone by the time he comes home. I know very few other people who wear perfume. A good friend who loves the lighter MFK perfumes, which are great on her.
