Scented greetings to all of you lovely people out there!

How do you feel about sweet, gourmand perfume? Do you enjoy radiating deliciousness, or are you nauseated by cloying fragrances?

Love them or hate them, sugary vanilla scents are still as popular today as they were when Angel and Pink Sugar came onto the scene. Personally, I have fun wearing candied perfumes, although I am fairly selective (perhaps even picky). The scent I chose for today has been the subject of many conversations in the fragrance community. It’s been compared quite frequently to Hermés Ambre Narguilé. It also reminds some people of scents like Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, L’Occitane Ambre, and more.

Fragrantica

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Bergamot, orange, caramel, rum
Heart: Jasmine, rose, immortal, lily of the valley, cinnamon, sugar cane, cocoa powder
Base: Patchouli, vanilla, benzoin, tonka, amber, musk

Ahhhhh, sweet elixir indeed! Warm apple pie. On my skin, Dolcelisir is very similar to Ambre Narguilé. I deathmatched them side by side on my skin several years ago, and found them to be scent siblings. If you’re obsessed with every facet and nuance of Ambre Narguilé, then Dolcelisir probably won’t serve as a substitute for you; however, if your appreciation is casual, Dolcelisir is an excellent alternative at an affordable price point.

Dolcelisir is a warm, boozy, syrupy-sweet vanilla spice perfume with a healthy dose of musk. The throw is very loud and intense, and wearlength is over 6 hours on my skin. I don’t typically categorize scents as seasonal, but this beauty is perfectly suited for cool autumn days. Dolcelisir is a celebration for those of us who still ride the pumpkin spice train when the first leaves change color, despite the haters!

  1. Thanks for the post and pics. Unfortunately I loathe sugary sweet scents. I feel overwhelmed by them. Maybe that is an age thing as I am a more – ahem- mature reader. I am the sort of person who holds her nose if she is anywhere near Yankee Candle or Lush stores, lest she develop a thumping aversion headache. And sweet jasmine vine flowers I can smell from a block away: they do not love me and send my sinuses into overload. TMI?

  2. I ride the pumpkin train! I am not a gourmand or vanilla lover. With that said, I have bought and enjoy wearing in winter Le Couvent Des Minimes Eau des Missions Botanical as well as Outremer Vanille and a few others such as Aquolina Chocolovers.

  3. I am now getting into Solstice Scents and picked up at discount the Pumpkin Spice Latte! Oh good heavens deliciousness. I also love HOM Coco Blanc but it lasts like a minute on me unless I douse myself. A new discovery is Atelier Cafe Tuberosa, very coffee-cocoa intro. I love coffee scents and immortelle, so those are my gourmands. Oh, also Bogue Mem.
Not feeling guilty–just very mellow and comforted…
Love your review and have to try it!

  4. Hi Erica,

This sounds yum! And yes, during cool weather I love wearing loukoums – Keiko Mercheri, Lutens and L’Artisan. All to me utterly delicious!

Other sweeties that I don’t wear outside my house but which I adore at bedtime are ‘Heliotrope’ and ‘Dragee'(both by Reminiscense) Kenzo Amour and Lolita Lempicka’s ‘Sweet’.

Thank you Erica, I’ll definitely be sniffing Dolcelisir soon.

  5. Oh my goodness, Ambre Narguile is one of my favorite scents. I’ll have to get my hands on a sample of this one! Thanks for the review!

  6. Oh Erica! In short, I don’t like gourmands, especially sweet ones. BUT, I will admit to a few growing on me. I bought the Sofia Vergara range out of curiosity. Cheap, and I expected to be nasty. Not quite. Generic sweet, they are, yet I expect that from Sofia.

I cannot handle wearing scents meant for eating. I will write a post about why soon.
