Hi APJ,

I’d like to try something new here at APJ, I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 16-22 October 2017

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:
Amouage Dia Parfum
DIOR Mitzah
Miller et Barter A Quiet Morning
Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele
Vintage CHANEL No 19 EdC
Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.

Last Weeks Winner: FIRST WEEK!

  1. Tonight my SOTD is Guerlain Champs Elysees. Fruity violets, mimosa and dewy lilac fluffed up with powder. Gorgeous.

  2. Usually I wear something that I think will not offend anyone to work, like Cuir Beluga. This week we are preparing for assessments and the students are all giving me grief…I AM BLOODY WELL WEARING JICKY.
    So there.

  3. Hi everyone! Today started out a little cooler so I got out a sample of Interlude Woman by Amouage. I didn’t enjoy it the first time I tried it but, on revisiting, I really enjoyed this rich but unchurchy incense. The only problem is that, after 5 hours, I can’t smell it at all! I expected a little more longevity from this house.

  4. Today I am smelling of sweet tobacco. Profumo di Firenze Odori Tabacco. Long lasting tobacco with some honey playing the supporting role. Moderate sillage and good for work.
The smell reminds me of my childhood. On my way biking to school I passed by a tabacco factory that smelled very much like this. The other smell of my childhood is the sweet smell of the sugarbeet factories in my home town. Haven come across a sugarbeet perfume yet 🙂

    • OOOOH, great story Jac, I love when stuff reminds me of my youth. Recently a tomato leaf frag did it, happy memories.
Good luck finding beetroot, if you do let us know please.

    • Interesting, what is the smell of a sugar beet factory like?
I am curious because sometimes when visiting York there was a strong smell of biscuits cooking (digestives) and we always assumed it was the chocolate factory but later I was told it could be sugar beets, it was really distinctive and sort of pleasant but it was so pervasive and persistent it became exhausting after a while in the way gourmand scents can.
Wearing Sideris today and loving it….

      • Yes, sugar beet factories definitely smell of biscuits. We have one on the outskirts of town and when the wind blows in this direction it’s very biscuity. But at least it’s not unpleasant!

        Like

      • Yes, sugar beets have a sweet biscuity smell. The timing is also important. Sugarbeet factories typiccalt run from somewhere in august till jan/feb, dependent on the crop. If you would smell it in spring/summer, it is most likely not the sugar mill.

  5. After some really awful rainy days, October has decided to turn into golden leaves, sunshine and clear blue sky. I am taking the chance and wear some of my summer favourites (probably for the last time this year). Today it is Parfum de Rosine’s Un Zest de Rose.

  7. Lutens’ Féminité du Bois for me today. It’s pretty straight up slightly-sweetened cedar on me, with little nuance, and almost no variation in its 12 hours or more of life. I don’t often think about it, so don’t often wear it, but I still like it. Though maybe it’s not quite right for a dark and blustery Monday on the edge of Ophelia…

SOTN is going to be either Gallivant Tel Aviv or Brooklyn for testing. Haven’t decided yet.

  13. As our beautiful sunny, crisp September has made its usual turn to grey, gloomy, decidedly chilly and often raining October, I realize that I don’t have any orientals to keep me warm. (Besides the always worn Shalimar 😊)
The best I can do today is a shower in Neutrogena Rainbath and after my specialist appointment some Karl Lagerfeld Floriental from his Kapsule collection. Nothing special but soft herbal green and then powdery violet and warmth, suitable for today.
Clearly it’s time to take a wander through my samples.

    Like

      • Indeed it is. I have to admit that I bought a half-used one purely for the bottle. Was pleased to find I liked it. Interestingly the three Kapsules could be layered. Hard to think of Karl in the Jo Malone field, but whatever works, and in great bottles. The pale blue one is called Light and is reviewed as citrus and nutmeg, the dark blue is Woody with mostly plum and cedar. They were sold as unisex. Can’t quite imagine the violet of Floriental on a man. No man to try it on at the moment, but I’ll keep looking.🙂

      • hahhahahah, no. The panty dropper thing is weird. In fact, this is how I sometimes tell whether someone loves perfume for the sake of perfume or to impress others. If you want a perfume that impresses the most number of people, I am skeptical you actually love perfume. If you love a perfume but it also garners compliments, then that is a bonus.

Washed it off later (my skin holds base notes forever) so I could use my current favourite cologne — Dior Escale a Portofino. Citrus and almond blossom. It too came from a trio. Haven’t smelled the others. I think they’re duty free only.

Boxeuses was the right choice: resilience and reassurance, rather than a full-on “shield maiden in battle charge mode” type of strength-scent. Home, and super-tired, and it’s still trailing about me. And it’s still rather lovely, even this late in the evening.

  32. So today was Floid Vigoroso after shave. Sometimes I just feel like a really old-fashioned splash on the face instead of spritzing niche fragrances all around the place. This is the real deal, a bracing traditional 30s-style after shave with some menthol bite. It smells of spice and oranges, and is as cheap as chips. What more could you ask for?

Shameless flatterer that she is, she has astonishing taste in perfume. (A few years ago I sent her a big box of samples and testers as a cheer-up and distraction present in a bad time. Her favourites, at the tender age of nineteen, out of all the cheerful mainstreams, fruity girly-whirly delights, and odd ball indies I’d rounded up? L’heure bleue, Bois des iles, and Yohji Homme. I am a proud, proud aunt.)

I don’t get the earthy bit, but I like it probably because of the moss, one of my favourite ingredients. It reminds me of Eau d’Issey. I had some pre-winter things to do in my Mum’s garden and the scent felt just right. Longevity is very good.
