Hi APJ,

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 23-29 October 2017

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:
Bal a Versailles parfum
Eau d’Italie Morn to Dusk
Guerlain L’Heure de Nuit
Neela Vermeire Creations Pichola
Vintage DIOR Miss Dior EdC
Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.

Last Weeks Winner: FIRST WEEK!

  1. SOTD for me is Black Flower Mexican Vanilla,from Dame Perfumery! Jeffrey Dame kindly did a US giveaway for the last two weekends on Facebook, and this was one of the samples I got. Gorgeous!

  2. Twins today with Old Herbaceous! Her post reminded me how much I love it so I sprayed numerous spritzes (10) from younger CMs full bottle before leaving for work this morning!

  3. Today I’m working in my home office and I’m wearing a sample of Stephane Humbert Lucas – Mortal Skin. It’s an amazing scent due to the prominent ink note. It is sweet, cool, almost metallic because of the blackberry, but this flowery ink note is so extraordinary. It is definitely very daring and worth trying.

    • Excellent choice JackieB,
      Did you know that Christopher Chong from Amouage loves Trayee so much that he wishes it had been a part of his line?

      • No I did not know that! I have tremendous respect for his vision, if not all the latest fragrances.
        Staffishere… I have Mohur and Ashoka also, and I think Rahele is on my horizon.
        They are such complex perfumes, love them!

    • Like This is very pleasant scent. It has a “skin scent” quality I appreciate in the days when the weather turns colder.
      I went through a sample last year and ever since then I’m considering buying a full bottle.

  4. Maison Francis Kurkdjian Paris Cologne Pour Le Soir. It’s a little bit on the baby powder side up close, but the wafts further away are a lovely heliotrope ylang to my nose.

  5. Tuesday: wearing Stash by Sarah Jessica Parker. Yes it’s cheap & cheerful, but it’s a solid frag! And did I mention cheap? I got a boxed set of 30mls, a body lotion and a travel oil with its own little case for AUD$30. Sweet.

    • Good morning , Tina…..Stash is a firm fave of mine since its launch. I will be stocking up on it. That gift set sounds marvellous…. I must grab a couple.
      You have inspired me to wear Stash as my SOTD

    • Lovely frag Tina,
      So wearable and smells WAY more expensive than it is. SJP is back on her game.

      • Hi everyone! It’s a great frag, and at the current price a fairly safe blind buy too. A 30ml bottle is currently $10 at Chemist Warehouse (Aus). And I like the smaller bottles, so practical.

  6. SOTD: Nicolaï Sacrebleu Intense. Finishing my sample of it. I found it too sweet before, but on this cold day it’s so soothing. Need full bottle!
    SOTN: Molinard Rose Émois, for testing.

  7. During the past week I have travelled the entire spectrum of soft powdery fumes to in your face fumes
    I’ve worn , Equinox Bloom, Tabu, Yardley’s Lavender, Hearth, Rochas Absolu, and on Saturday, ONE SPRAY of Zelda…three shoers later it has finally gone away….Zelda is a beastly big hitter, but gorgeous.

  8. Wearing Carnal Flower today. Have been wearing a lot of gourmands lately and was just in the mood for something bright and floral.

  9. Was wearing one of my current EBPs since I totally forgot about scent this morning. So I wore dabs of Y. Richer Voile d’ Ambre at the office, from a tiny bottle. Nice enough, but I won’t be buying a full bottle.

  10. Yves St Lauren Nu edt. The blue bottle which many lovers of the original Edp find a horrible version. On me the camphor aspect of the cardamom is very prominent — almost moth balls at first. Sweeter on clothes. I find it interesting all the way through and keep smelling my wrists all day.

    • Thank goodness we all have different taste Lindaloo,
      One of my BFFs Alice wears this beautifully too. I bet you smell lovely.

    • I recently bought almmost a FB of the Nu version you mention Lindaloo. I was so disappointed…the scent itself is okay but I expected something, at least, similar to the original Nu. It’s a completely different scent.
      I will be testing it on various occasions during this winter and maybe it’ll grow on me.

  11. La Chasse aux Papillons is my favorite light as a cologne floral. Wearing it today makes the hot weather feel less oppressive. Have a great week, APJ.

  14. Finishing my bottle (not sorry) of Roaring Radcliff. It reminds me vaguely of TF Tobacco Vanille but not nearly as rich and full bodied.

  15. Wore Bombay Bling today because I love it! Now it makes me think of Jin. Delish. Tonight test driving some Jovou samples I just received. Wondering if anyone has favorites from the line.

  16. I may have had a little accident in the new Dior boutique in Glasgow… you know, those terrible accidents where money falls out of your bank account? And today I may be flouncing about these damp grey streets in a tasty cloud of Fève Délicieuse…

    (Also: the 40ml bottles are so pleasingly dinky compared to the monster flasks.)

    • Crikey, this seems to happen to me regularly too. What to do about it, I wonder? You’re just walking about minding your own business when something jumps into your bag, and your money jumps out.
      SOTD – Shalimar Souffle, nice, easy to wear, but doesn’t light a fire under me.

      • It’s a dangerous, dangerous world, cassieflower.

        (I’ve never smelled the Souffle version… actually, I don’t think I’ve tried any of the many Shalimar flankers. I kind of shy away from them. Have I missed anything special?

        Like

    • Answering out of sync but there wasn’t a reply link under your question. The Shalimar Soufflé is ‘nice’ but my flanker of choice is Shalimar Parfum Initial edp. Bright bergamot opener followed by some jasmine, rose and a good dollop of iris. The dry down is recognisably Shalimar. I notice some decants on eBay. Just sayin’ . . .😉

  17. (I won last week so don’t enter me!) I love these SOTD posts! After some effort, I obtained a sample of Jason Wu’s new perfume. I was all excited since it had jasmine in it. It’s nice enough, really, and I’m enjoying wearing it today, but it wasn’t the love-at-first-sniff I had hoped for. However, no one in my office suite has sneezed. There’s that. (Not everyone shares my love of all things jasmine)

  18. Tom Ford’s Cafe Rose. I bought a mini ftom ebay and it is such a deliciously different take on a dark rose it is rapidly becoming an obsession for me.

  19. A bit slow off the mark this week. On Monday, I wore Helmut Lang EDP. I find this to be a vanilla and musk bomb. probably a bit too much for me. Yesterday was vintage Maxim’s Pour Homme, another full-on fragrance, but I like this one a lot more. Today is Floris No. 89, for some good old barbershop tradition.

  20. Still broiling in SoCal. For several days, the only fragrance I could tolerate was Shiseido Spirit of Zen, obscure and discontinued. It’s a mossy tuberose-orange blossom. I was gifted a sample with another purchase, but I like it enough to stock up.

    So a spritz of Bottega Veneta.

    • Same scent for me for Wednesday (and a little too lightly spritzed for my own taste, too.)

      And a good dollop of Rentless for pottering about this evening, and for bed. (It’s one of the newer Gorilla perfumes.)

The last two days have I have spent in Guerlain Spiriteuse Double Vanille, one of my all-time favorite vanilla’s. I also love Lush’s Vanillary and am looking forward to being able to wear them both again. I can’t wait for Fall to finally stick around for awhile.

  23. Damn it. I was wafting around happily, feeling all comfortable, when my beloved announced that Rentless was “a bit toooooo patchouli”. Though insisted “no, it’s fine”.

    It’s very rare for him to dislike a scent I enjoy wearing. So, clearly he hates it. Oops.

  25. Thursday it was time for something beautiful – – Tauer ‘s Miriam fron his Tableau des Parfum line. It’s a gentler Chanel No. 5
    Have to change it up today. 13º here in Vancouver but the sun was unbelievably warming as it shone through the living room window. Maybe some L’Occitane Green Tea to keep the light as the clouds come in.

  26. A totally crazy week at work. Over time every night. Anyway, it means I have just been spraying any ole thing I can reach for. What I remember:
    * Beauty – Calvin Klein
    * Wan Chai – Teone Reinthal
    * Herba Fresca – Guerlain
    * Addict edp – Dior
    * Mon Paris edp – YSL
    * Wonderstruck – Taylor Swift
    * Various – Britney Spears

    Some of these are for research purposes and a future blog post. Bahahahahahaha!

    Looking forward to trying JPG’s Ma Dame edp tomorrow.
