Hi APJ,

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 13 – 19 November 2017

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:
Guerlain Vetiver EdT
Miller Harris Geranium Bourbon
Perfumerie Generale Praline de Santal
Heeley Esprit du Tigre
Vintage Miss Dior extrait
Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.

  1. Over a base of my homemade patchouli body oil La Maroc Pour Elle…I was inspired by you, P , to wear my Tauer samples. For some strange reason my skin reads this as a sweet cozy lavender…reminds me a lot of lavender absolute which is softer and more diffuse than regular lavender.

  2. Jo Malone’s Black Vetyver Cafe – I felt the need for coffee with my coffee this morning! Think this is discontinued (certainly here in the UK) so I’m slightly hoarding it.

  3. Today I chose Guerlain Le plus beau jour de ma vie. I can never remember the name of it and have to look it up when typing it. It is however, very beautiful! Like a beautiful slightly sweet blush wine.

    • I’d have to look it up too.
I dont think it holds the title for longest perfume name, but at eight words it’s darn close.

    • Alahine is fantastic! After several decants I went FB on it, and I consider it in my top 10-20. This is a great time of year to bring it out, and it’s both so sexy and elegant, as well as warm. You must be a fragrant cloud today.

  4. After being on my list for a few years I finally indulged in a bottle of Le Labo Lys 41. Whenever I get a new bottle it’s like being in the first stages of love, I just want to wear it a lot, and it’s an effort to stagger wearings because I hate to desensitize my nose to my new love. Today I gave in and am wafting gorgeousness all around me, again 🙂

      • hey Ingeborg… My bottle had to travel internationally to get to me too. Luckily Lucky Scent will ship to Canada. Where are you? Maybe Lucky Scent could ship to you too?

    • Fazal I wore some old vintage (yellow) 19 last night and binge-watched 5 episodes of Transparent on Stan. The 2 elements somehow fit together really well. Try it… but also eat a bowl of pistachios and dried cranberries at the same time.

  7. Currently wearing 4 fragrances, but the standout is PG Coze. I assumed that it was all about coffee, but I’m loving the patchouli.

    • I had to look this up because I didn’t know the abbreviation and Luckyscent has it. I’m all about coffee in my ‘fumes (wearing Atelier Cafe Tuberosa this am) and the rest of it, save the hemp sounds divine. I’m off to order a sample. I LOVE patch, and patch +coffee = yum.

  8. Vintage Dans la nuit by Worth. Someone urged me to buy this a few years ago – her socialite mother wore it, and it was touted as a great beauty hidden away in the tower of secret (wealthy) women’s business.

I finally found a full (old) bottle of it lurking on ebay, and discovered today that:- 1. it’s a useful demonstration of how Tonka may be used to try and mask a truly discordant fragrance, and 2. that I really wish I hadn’t bothered.

    Lessons in a blue bottle.

  9. I am currently loving Gucci 2. It’s such a nice scent for summer. It was an accidental discovery when an old boss wanted to buy me some perfume as a thank you and he got the wrong Gucci scent. It was the best mistake made.

  10. It’s been HOT the last couple of days, so I’ve been reaching for the citrus. Monday was Monsieur Balmain, a lemon bomb exactly as the packaging suggests. Today, one of my favourite citruses, Hermés Eau d’Orange Verte.

  11. Today I will be wearing no 19 EDP ..to quote the generous perfumista who gifted me a decant of it “for spine stiffening” strength and liquid courage…it will be a long pain in the arse day at work and will be driving home in the dark after a staff meeting, both of which I hate…well, at least I will be smelling good 🙂

  13. Oh I adore Shangri La. I only have a few very concentrated ml left in my bottle. That poof on the bottle I think makes the perfume evaporate really quickly. Looks like he’s changed the style of bottle so the new ones don’t do that any more.

    • There needs to be a special nasty treatment for the naming and packaging practices of this designer. The first EdT in the black bottle with pink box was very nice, until they came out with the EdP in the pink bottle with black box. From there on it’s been a steady slide down through the Essences and now Narciso. My phone’s autosuggest advised changing Narcisso to narcissistic. Smart phone.
It must be s nightmare for gift buyers.
All that said, I do love the original you’re wearing

      • I don’t think I’ll ever be able to tell all these different versions of For Her apart! (Still they can’t beat Miss Dior in this competition of confusion.)

        Like

      • i’ve purchased quite a few other Narciso’s – the last few in the square bottle are bit disappointing.
probably my first experience in the difference between EdT and EdP – i just thought the EdP would be stronger/more long lasting – there is a tiny difference between the pink and black bottle – not that i could describe them to you except to say after the pink bottle was empty it was not replaced!

  15. Wearing Chanel Beige today. I have a sample which I will use up, but I don’t see myself buying a FB. It smells like baby oil and hairspray on me though not in an unpleasant way. It’s just not something I’d spend a fortune for.

The govt should never have put this to any kind poll or referendum or whatever before having the guts to make gay marriage legal.
Results from CBC Radio: 61.6% in favour and almost 80% turnout. That’s amazing validation.

I was planning to slather on some Le Labo Rose 31 lotion tonight, but will switch to Shalimar lotion so I can join crikey in her toast.

  20. As the heat continued yesterday I broke out Malle’s Bigarade Concentree. Another good citrus, this time with some nice green notes.

The weather broke today and we are back to rain and a bit cooler. I wore Histoires de Parfum’s Veni today. While my reaction did not quite measure up to its name, I do like it.

  21. I’m more of a Serge Lutens and Guerlain person, but I have a beautiful vintage Chanel no. 5, and I just sprung for the newer Premier version. Got it yesterday, sprayed lavishly today. I know this is sacrilege, but….I quite enjoy this and find it more lovely than the original (especially layered with c no. 5 body oil). They’re both quite good, and vintage is better than modern iterations of the same, but this flanker is outstanding! Chanel Eau Premiere SOTD. Highly recommend.

  22. ugh… ever been to a banquet and tried too much heavy food because it was there and ended up feeling like you’ve just had too much and then had some fruit on top of it or a lighter desert because you thought it might refresh you from that heavy feeling and then realized that was a mistake too? I just did that with perfume. I was in the Perfume dept and wildly trying out things on top of perfume I was already wearing, Samsara here, a little 24 Fauberg there, oh just a little spritz of Annick Goutal’s vanilla on that corner of my arm. Anyway, I started realizing I had WAY overdone it and thought that maybe a bit of Twilly, light and inoffensive would be a good idea, just to cut through the heavy haze a bit. NOT!!!! Thank goodness a bath can reset a person for the day.

  24. Happy Friday lovely people!
SOTD is Molinard Ambre orientaux – I’ve been waiting all week to wear this one. No work today, flying interstate to catch up with some dear friends. Packed Incense Ouarzazate, my last bit of L’Art vanille, & some Montale black oud. Hoping to try some Tom Ford tobacco vanilla at the airport.
Now if I can just fit everything into my bag!,

PS did you see the name of the new Tom Ford scent? Crazy!

    Like

    • Sometimes I get tired of Ford focussing on sex/shock. I’m thinking about some earlier ads.

I read it’s a limited edition. Not sure it will be carried anywhere other than his boutique. Can’t imagine most retailers jumping to take the risk.

      Like

      • I think the retailers do carry it (Neiman Marcus does) but they need to keep it hidden behind a counter because of the name…so if you want it you have to ask for it.

        Like

      • OOO and I forgot to say that it was supposed to be a limited edition but now the rumors are floating around that it will be in the regular line up. I think the information of “limited edition” is sometimes intentional to make all of us folks rush to buy it, for “fear of missing out”.

        Like

    • Ha ha, yes, and from what I have read/ seen on youtube it isn’t so f***cking fabulous after all 🙂

How do you like the Black Oud? the only montale I have sampled is Intense Cafe.

      Like

      • I love the black oud. Other peeps think it smells like roses but I don’t get that, I do wear it with my vanilla and that works well.
I ordered couple other montales so will see how they go!

    • and I will also add that last night I wore a hefty amount of Berdoues Vanira Moorea…lordie, I had forgotten how great that stuff is! And the price of those Berdoues are unbelievably cheap for a niche….I think I paid $55 with discounts online for 100ml. Berdoues Grand Cru is a collection that I highly recommend so if you see it in the wild, do give it a try 🙂

    • No I haven’t but I sure would like to. It’s so hard getting anything from SSS to me, I have to wait for a perfume mule to go to the states and bring them back for me. I have a friend going soon but he’s only taking carry on luggage with him drat. No hauling back big bottles of perfume for me alas.

  33. Today I broke out the Van Cleef and Arpels Concentrated Cologne. This is a rare flanker of Pour Homme, and very much an ’80s style woody, soapy monster. Might be a bit OTT for a hot summer day, but I’m enjoying it.

  34. Sunday in Bel Respiro. I love that one so much. I’m afraid to use what’s left in my bottle because I’ve heard they changed it quite a bit when they went to EDP, so every time I use what’s left of my EDT I feel like it’s a special occasion. Ah well, when it’s gone, it’s gone. At least I still have an almost full bottle of SL’s bas de soie, which is almost a doppelgänger for Bel Respiro, not quite but amazing in it’s own self.
I read your Scent Diary Portia and enjoyed it so much as always. I think this has been my scent diary for last week
