Hi APJ,
I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.
SOTD 13 – 19 November 2017
The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:
Guerlain Vetiver EdT
Miller Harris Geranium Bourbon
Perfumerie Generale Praline de Santal
Heeley Esprit du Tigre
Vintage Miss Dior extrait
Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.

Over a base of my homemade patchouli body oil La Maroc Pour Elle…I was inspired by you, P , to wear my Tauer samples. For some strange reason my skin reads this as a sweet cozy lavender…reminds me a lot of lavender absolute which is softer and more diffuse than regular lavender.

Alahine is fantastic! After several decants I went FB on it, and I consider it in my top 10-20. This is a great time of year to bring it out, and it’s both so sexy and elegant, as well as warm. You must be a fragrant cloud today.

After being on my list for a few years I finally indulged in a bottle of Le Labo Lys 41. Whenever I get a new bottle it’s like being in the first stages of love, I just want to wear it a lot, and it’s an effort to stagger wearings because I hate to desensitize my nose to my new love. Today I gave in and am wafting gorgeousness all around me, again 🙂

You smell great! If I had the possibility to travel more abroad, Lys 41 would already have been in my collection.

I had to look this up because I didn’t know the abbreviation and Luckyscent has it. I’m all about coffee in my ‘fumes (wearing Atelier Cafe Tuberosa this am) and the rest of it, save the hemp sounds divine. I’m off to order a sample. I LOVE patch, and patch +coffee = yum.

Vintage Dans la nuit by Worth. Someone urged me to buy this a few years ago – her socialite mother wore it, and it was touted as a great beauty hidden away in the tower of secret (wealthy) women’s business.
I finally found a full (old) bottle of it lurking on ebay, and discovered today that:- 1. it’s a useful demonstration of how Tonka may be used to try and mask a truly discordant fragrance, and 2. that I really wish I hadn’t bothered.
Lessons in a blue bottle.

There needs to be a special nasty treatment for the naming and packaging practices of this designer. The first EdT in the black bottle with pink box was very nice, until they came out with the EdP in the pink bottle with black box. From there on it’s been a steady slide down through the Essences and now Narciso. My phone’s autosuggest advised changing Narcisso to narcissistic. Smart phone.
It must be s nightmare for gift buyers.
All that said, I do love the original you’re wearing

i’ve purchased quite a few other Narciso’s – the last few in the square bottle are bit disappointing.
probably my first experience in the difference between EdT and EdP – i just thought the EdP would be stronger/more long lasting – there is a tiny difference between the pink and black bottle – not that i could describe them to you except to say after the pink bottle was empty it was not replaced!

I’m more of a Serge Lutens and Guerlain person, but I have a beautiful vintage Chanel no. 5, and I just sprung for the newer Premier version. Got it yesterday, sprayed lavishly today. I know this is sacrilege, but….I quite enjoy this and find it more lovely than the original (especially layered with c no. 5 body oil). They’re both quite good, and vintage is better than modern iterations of the same, but this flanker is outstanding! Chanel Eau Premiere SOTD. Highly recommend.

ugh… ever been to a banquet and tried too much heavy food because it was there and ended up feeling like you’ve just had too much and then had some fruit on top of it or a lighter desert because you thought it might refresh you from that heavy feeling and then realized that was a mistake too? I just did that with perfume. I was in the Perfume dept and wildly trying out things on top of perfume I was already wearing, Samsara here, a little 24 Fauberg there, oh just a little spritz of Annick Goutal’s vanilla on that corner of my arm. Anyway, I started realizing I had WAY overdone it and thought that maybe a bit of Twilly, light and inoffensive would be a good idea, just to cut through the heavy haze a bit. NOT!!!! Thank goodness a bath can reset a person for the day.

SOTD is Molinard Ambre orientaux – I’ve been waiting all week to wear this one. No work today, flying interstate to catch up with some dear friends. Packed Incense Ouarzazate, my last bit of L’Art vanille, & some Montale black oud. Hoping to try some Tom Ford tobacco vanilla at the airport.
Now if I can just fit everything into my bag!,
PS did you see the name of the new Tom Ford scent? Crazy!

Sometimes I get tired of Ford focussing on sex/shock. I’m thinking about some earlier ads.
I read it’s a limited edition. Not sure it will be carried anywhere other than his boutique. Can’t imagine most retailers jumping to take the risk.
LikeLike
I think the retailers do carry it (Neiman Marcus does) but they need to keep it hidden behind a counter because of the name…so if you want it you have to ask for it.
LikeLike
OOO and I forgot to say that it was supposed to be a limited edition but now the rumors are floating around that it will be in the regular line up. I think the information of “limited edition” is sometimes intentional to make all of us folks rush to buy it, for “fear of missing out”.
