Hi APJ,

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 20 – 26 November 2017

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:
Guerlain Mitsouko EdT
Pharrell Williams Girl
The Different Company Oriental Lounge
Vintage Fendi original
Vintage YSL Opium EdT
Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.

LAST WEEKS WINNER!! Kandice

  4. Today I revisited Parfum Sacre by Caron, it was pretty and lasted most of the day.
Maybe perfume is like children, the pushy ones get the most attention but the ones at the back of the shelf are kind of special.
Not that I would know anything about children! Prefer animals.

    • oh my Marzipan… that does sound amazing. Narcissus is now one of my most favourite cravings. I’ve got the Gardenia on its way to me, and I can’t wait to try that too. Have you tried the Tuberose by him. I’m so intrigued by his soliflores and I love Tuberose.

      Like

      • I have tried all of the soliflores…they are all gorgeous…the Tuberose is incredibly true to life so be prepared if you decide to get it!!!

    • Marzipan, I’m super intrigued about these ‘Dames’ you keep wearing. Will check them out & see if they ship OS The Black flower Mexican vanilla has me super interested.

      • He has an “international” shop and indicates where he can ship outside of the States…I will see if I can find the link and if it is OK with Portia will try to link it here.

      • Yes but it is well worth it as Dame is very reasonably priced and I must say that for an indie perfumer Jeff is incredibly generous!!! always includes LOADS of extra samples in all of his packages! If you do decide to bite the bullet and place an order do come back and let me know what you got and how you like it (good, bad or indifferent!)

same for the womens selection of three notes….my 80 year old dad loves them , his favorite being Mate, Heliotrope & Patchouli…I must have gifted him around 5 bottles from the original three note line. They are unisex as well.

      • Thanks Marzipan -i think i’m going to order the Black Flower. Some of the other scents you mention aren’t available to send overseas. Have you tried Dark Horse – has everything in it i like so maybe that is worth a try too. Will keep you posted – thanks for the info, cheers

      • I have literally tried them all. I DO like Dark Horse but keep in mind it reads quite sweet on my skin…has a similar vibe to Earth Mother (which is now my favorite) and Black Flower Mexican Vanilla. If you decide to place an order ask Jeff for a sample of Dark Horse in the comments. He will most likely send it to you.

    • Another of my favourites. I find I need to be alone when I wear that one. I love it dearly but it’s one of a few that garners loud complaints from those around me when I wear it. I find that so fascinating how our perceptions can be so different, I’m in heaven and someone else experiencing the same thing thinks it’s awful.

Sometimes I love this and other times it turns nasty. I can’t pinpoint why either so it gets neglected.

  8. Staying home with a sick child today and wearing yummy Demeter Irish Cream. One of my favorites of their line, their booze scents are quite good. I know they get knocked for generally poor sillage and longevity, but for the price, I sprayed heavily and still perceive at 8 hrs later.

    • oh, I’ve done that so many times, accidentally and on purpose. Depending on what kind of shirt and what kind of juice, I usually get away with it. I like it on the shirt because the perfume wafts up to my nose as I move around, less deliberate than bringing my wrist to my nose. I’ll move and get a delightful waft, that’s somehow a different kind of enjoyment.

      Like

    • I have been eyeballing the Demeters for a while..I tried a few samples and small decants and really liked them and fell in love with Incense (which is actually quite sweet). And yes, the price is right!!!! Have you tried any of their coffee scents? Or tobacco ones? Those I am interested in too.

Oh my, I love this one so much, one of my never want to be without. I haven’t worn it in a couple of months so a couple of spritz’s seems strong and gorgeous to me mmmmm

So to assist with me trying to be ‘calm’ I wore Yardley’s Lavender in the morning. mid afternoon to bed I wore a sample of Montale’s Sweet Oriental Dream. Woke up this morning, Tuesday feeling much better, less ‘heady’ and have chosen to wear Mahora.

  11. I’m really enjoying the heat, in a peculiar way, because it’s allowing me to break out colognes and other summery scents that haven’t seen the light of day for months.

Monday was Hermès Eau de Gentiane Blanche. This is unlike any other cologne I have, with floral accords and a notable iris scent. Nothing like the usual citrus and greens.

Today was the more traditional citrusy cologne: Penhaligon’s Extract of Limes. This one is discontinued, but it smells exactly as promised – limes! Sadly it has very little in the way of longevity, so I can see why this one may not have been a success.

  17. Very happy to receive my first of many samples from STC – sweet packaging.
LArtisan Safran Troublant & Seville a l aube, Diff Co Oriental lounge & Osmanthus, Lorenzo Villerosi musk and Le Labo Santal 33 – of course i tried them all, at once!!
Oriental Lounge reminds me of something else – BLV Aqua Amara?? Osmanthus was very interesting and will get another run. VL Musk – exactly like musk lifesavers ( a lolly here in oz) the other two will get another test run tonight.

Todays winner was the Le Labo – when i first put it on i didn’t like it – not sure how to describe it – green? bit sharp? then about 20 minutes later i kept getting these wafts of something warm, sweet and a bit cedar. I LOVE IT! Wearing it to work today so will see how long it lasts. I don’t think my little sample will last for long. sorry for the essay 🙂 i’m a bit excited about smelling so great !!

  20. Oh man, the heat. I decided to get in a bike ride early today, before it got too hot. I was out less than an hour and the temp rose 4 degrees. When I went out later on, it was like my eyes were being baked from the inside out. It’s too early in the summer for this.

After my shower I put on Virgin Island Water. This is a very good scent for this weather, but it just did not hold up today, disappearing on me very quickly.

The kindness and generosity never ceases to amaze me! A fellow perfumista and good friend sent a package to my girls of all sorts of beauty stuff (GWPs) but she also included a mini of Tauer’s LDDM as she knew I had drained my sample, was itching for that mini, but am currently on a “no buy” due to family expenses. Wow! Talk about kindness…I am ever so grateful….and loving it as it is and will be my “scent of the very long weekend starting today”…..I put it on last night and can still smell it this morning….my scent eating skin has met its match. And it dries down very sweet on my skin and I am not picking up any dryness or cumin (yay!)

Safe travels to all who are visiting family and friends!

My friend is visiting the U S next week and she’s gonna be my scent mule. Wohoo. I’ll be trying two new to me scents, Equestrian and Bee’s Bliss. And replenishing my Jour Ensoleille (just a little bottle as it’s in short supply) and Champagne du Bois.
Happy Thanksgiving to your US readers. They’re probably in a tizzy in the kitchen around now 🦃 🥔 🍗

  28. Miss Dior today (c.mid1980s edt version). Because Tara, Portia, and co.

Dinner with a friend this evening, she tries to identify a waft of scent near by (one of the waiters, Prada Luna Rossi, we think). So, talking perfume, she sniffs my wrist and announces with delight that whatever it is, this is the scent she most associates with me. Is it daft that it makes me ridiculously happy that–of all the different perfumes I wear–this is the perfume she identifies as mine?

L’Artisan Passage d’Enfer today. Reminds me of the CDG Incense range but a little less smoky. I have sample of Kyoto to try so will compare.

Stand outs from last nights sniffing – BondNo9 Nuits de Noho and Montale Full Incense. Oh and some more LArtisan Vanille – yippee!

  30. I’m wearing Bee’s Bliss by SSS. The opening on this is lovely. I will have to see how I do on the drydown as some of her scents don’t agree with me. (Although she makes my all-time favorite fig fragrance!). Some on here have wondered if it’s similar to Jour Ensoleille. I would say there are some similarities but they are not the same fragrance. The focus is drastically different in my opinion. I get more of the beeswax and warmth so far from this fragrance and less of the white florals. Either way, you should definitely try this one!

    • Definitly on my to try list, but that will be a while because I don’t know anyone going to the states for a while. I do love my Jour Ensoleille but it’s the white flower part I like the best so hard to say how I’d do with less, leaves me very curious indeed.

      Like

    • I totally agree with your assessment. Jour is much more indolic. I found bees Bliss to be sweeter and definitely got the beeswax note. It’s summery but I think it is more year-round than Jour, at least for me.

  31. Fracas today. I have a little rollerball of it, and for some reason when I use it, it seems to stay fairly close to me and not rise up and assault everyone else within throwing distance. Just a little blissful drift of white flower heaven drifting up to me when I move my hand. mmmmm
ooh, by the way, my le jardin’s that I was testing yesterday lasted an amazingly long time, I could still smell them on their respective wrists 9 or 10 hours later if I put my nose on my wrist. I was quite surprised as I tend to think of them as Colognish…I know, is that a word? I don’t know, I’m thinking maybe Monsiour Li might be edging out Sur le Toit by a hair in my heart’s desire.

  33. Continuing to wear lots of hot weather fragrances. Thurssday was DS & Durga’s Italian Citrus. Friday I went for a tea scent that works well in the heat, Bamboo Harmony. Today I cracked open my Batucada (which I always mis-name Batacuda for some reason).

I met up with a friend today who was kind enough to give me a sniff of the three Tauer Stories fragrances. My impressions were:

Hyacinth and a Mechanic. Starts as a strong floral but seemed to develop a note that reminded me a little of Lonestar Memories. Quite odd.

He Left His Cologne in my Bedroom. I was certainly up for a cologne in today’s muggy mid-30s heat, and this is not bed. It’s a herby cologne rather than citrusy, so good for something a little different. Fading fast on me, unfortunately.

When We Cuddle. The name alone made me expect creamy, warm vanilla, and that’s exactly what this delivers. It’s a bit like Malle’s Dries Van Noten, but probably more a cool-weather scent.
