Hi APJ,

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 4 – 10 December 2017

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:

  1. Divine EdP
  2. Rouge Hermès
  3. Goldfield & Banks Wood Infusion
  4. Aedes de Venustas Palissandre d’Or
  5. Vintage CHANEL No 22 EdC

Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.

LAST WEEKS WINNER: MmkInPA

Go To It Crew.

  1. Dame Earth Mother with a few drops of the hair oil. I didn’t put the correct starting row number into random.org so this sample came up instead of a bottle, but I’m happy it is today’s selection. Not usually my thing due to the patch but the blend is lovely.

    • I think I like Earth Mother better in the hair oil version (which I use as a body oil) than in the EDP. And congrats on your draw win 🙂

      • I now have a fairly generous stash of samples of Earth Mother due to my recent little Dame Perfumery buying spree, I think I may try that one out post bath today.

  4. My SOTD is Commodity Tea. I just didn’t know what to wear today, it is snowing here and somewhat depressing, but this one makes me feel business-like and ready to attack work at the office. Hoping that Jin is feeling better!

      • Fragrantica says (and I agree): Tea by Commodity is a Aromatic fragrance for women. “Tea was launched in 2013. The nose behind this fragrance is Donna Ramanauskas. Top notes are citruses, sicilian lemon and bergamot; middle notes are freesia, lily-of-the-valley and jasmine sambac; base notes are sandalwood and white musk.” A black ranther than green tea experience. I like this for summer or days when my blood pressure is high! 🙂

  5. I just got back from a gala weekend in Berkeley with Mandy Aftelier– went to the museum Saturday and then shopped in-house for her scents (she had an open house with detectables including her food sprays and salts too). I’m going with her Cocoa edp today. Yes, it’s gourmand, but also deep, woody and sexy. Tonight I might switch to her Velvet Tuberose (Amazzzzzing). Thank thou for the giveaway. I follow by email.

  7. I had a highway drive this morning so spritzed myself with SSS Yin and Ylang for the drive. I so so love this one, I blind bought only 15ml and had a friend (perfume mule) bring it to me without sampling it first because it’s so hard to get stuff from her to me. I’m glad I didn’t just sample it, and wish I had a bigger bottle of it. Oh well, I’ll enjoy my 15ml for now. There has to be someone going to the states eventually…. and then, there will be More!!!

    • Anything Laurie makes is worthy of blind buying in my humble opinion. There is not one SSS scent I have “met” that I did not like or adore.

      Like

      • Ditto. There are some that I don’t wear because they don’t “fit” but I find that her style is distinctive and if it works for you, most of her perfumes are hits!

  8. Today is Serge Lutens Daim Blond. A little package arrived from Scent Samples, a lovely site in AUS that does decants. I have three other Lutens to try, and some other treats. Balmain Ambre Gris was the other stand out from first round of sniffing!

Chocolate Marizpan i thought of you this morning, as i dropped my little sample on the bathroom floor and quickly tried to mop it up with my wrists – similar to your Fendi accident 🙂

      • And then later in the day Chocolate Marzipan i had the little bottle out to add a splash while i was in the car – the spray wasn’t working properly so i took the top off and promptly dropped it! so there i am driving and holding this tiny bottle of precious perfume inside not wanting to lose it. Once i had the car parked i could get the top from under the seat. I’m such a drama some days!

    • DAIM BLOND! Very nice choice.
Ambre Gris is another wonder, I like it a lot. Can’t remember who wrote it but there was an interesting article about the perfumistas love for that one. Great story.

  9. I’m embarrassed to say I have never tried Angel or Alien by TM, so I rectified that over the last few days. Yesterday was Alien and today Angel. While I can appreciate that Angel is a classic and changed the course of perfume, it was too heavy for me and gave me a splitting headache. I liked the floral Alien much better. It too has a note than can trigger headaches for me, but it skirted just shy of that. However would I spend the money for a FB? I doubt it. There are other scents I like much better. So I don’t know whether I get to keep my perfumista badge for having tried them or have to give it up for having such lackluster feelings about them. At least now though I have a frame of reference when I read about them.

    Like

    • Kandice, don’t be embarrassed. Keep your badge – you cant like everything! At least you had a go!
I don’t wear either but when ever i smell Angel it reminds me of a friend who used to smash this scent in times past.

      Like

      • Thanks Melanie! I know someone who wears Angel too, and it smells great on her. I guess if everyone wore the same thing, the world of perfume would be rather boring 🙂

        Like

    • Keep your badge…I agree with Melanie…you can’t like everything and sometimes our skin and nasal perceptions are different from other folks. I have had similar experiences where a certain fragrance smells divine on another Chocolate Marzipan member but just not the same on me. Plenty of other wonderful perfumes out there!!!

      Like

    • HA! You tried them, good enough for me.
Pretending to like them might have ended in a badge rescind but not liking something, you’re saved a couple of bottle buys. It’s a win.

It smells freakin’ amazing on my middle Marzipan..tomorrow is her 18th birthday but I gifted her the bottle ahead of time and she loves it. Highly recommend it if you are into gourmands and vanilla….ginger and hazelnut,I believe, are also in the notes.

    • I tried it. It was pretty enough, just fine but I was craving more of something, anything somehow. The desire to put something else on when I’m wearing a perfume is not a good sign for me, I don’t want to use the word ‘b….g’ but I guess that’s how I experienced it.

      Like

  19. Beaufort’s Coeur de Noire and a hopeless bad mood on Sunday, for a six hour train journey, and then some concerted moping. Loved its inky leathery darkness on first wear, when I was feeling ready to kick over the world. Hated it when I was soggy and glum. It smelled flat and peppery. (I have maybe one more wear left in this sample. I will have to pick my day carefully.)

Papillon’s Dryad on Monday, for a day I changed my mind, and remembered what I cared about. (There is a bottle of this in my future, I am sure of it now. It’s bloody lovely.)

Lutens’ Bapteme du Feu today (with an atmospheric side helping of old leather, vanillin-alike old paper, and pencils) for a blissful afternoon in Rare Books room in the British Library working with a mid-19th century photographic album.

tomorrow: who knows, but I might take an adventuresome side trip to Bloom to have a little sniff of a few things that have been making me curious…I’m so rarely in London, it seems daft to not steal away half an hour to play.

  24. Funny Portia, I was eyeballing my little bottle of Lolita Lempicka this morning today but went right past it instead to Patricia de Nicolai’s Le Temps d’une Fete. Oh, I love this one so much. There are very few perfumes I’ve purchased more than one full bottle of but this is one. I only have about 40 precious mls left and then won’t be able to get any more boohoo. I don’t understand the discontinuation as it’s just so pretty. I have found a similarity in Maison Margiela’s Promenade in the Garden thank goodness. It’s not a doppelgänger by any means but there is a similarity. I enjoy that one quite a lot too.

  28. Cuir venenum on my left arm ; aeon 001 on my right.

CV amused me hugely, as it’s so unlike anything I normally wear. It’s the sweetness. It felt like eating grape chewits, and spilling tropical coconutty suntan lotion on a warm plastic dress. But there’s a layer of soft leather under there too. Not one to go back to, but fun.

      Like

      • I had the same reaction: this is lovely!, when I tried my decant of Cuir Velours. I went right ahead and bought a bottle online, which was too hasty. Quickly it became too sweet for me, or what I call ‘too easy’… I gave my bottle away to a dear friend who dotes on it. Do try on skin first, indeed. 😀

I found a new large sample (3,8 ml) of Lui on the net. I think it is more sophisticated (the opening is wonderful), but the strength and longevity should be of much better quality.

      • Good reminder, fanny, to not leap at first sniff! (I am frequently too hasty, or enthusiastic.) My skin does weird things with sweetness: sometimes it flattens and almost hides it, sometimes it makes amplifies the sweets to the point of drowning in a vat of syrup.

This is actually very different to Figment Man; it’s not even in the same ballpark as a scent, so I’m not sure why they are branded together. Man is a big, powerful green and earthy scent, whereas this is a white floral. The opening was full-on gardenia and way too much for me.
