Hi APJ,
I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.
SOTD 18 – 24 December 2017
The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:
- Aftelier Perfumes: Parfum de Maroc
- Leone Reinthal: Antarctica
- Guerlain: Shalimar (vintage extrait)
- Ex Nihilo: Fleur Narcotique
- CHANEL No 19 (vintage EdC)
Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.
LAST WEEKS WINNER: Cassieflower

Today I went to DJs and sampled Noir de Noir on card, but really want to try it properly.
Dark and rosey and classy.
Later I sprayed Tauer L’Oudh on my skin and was surprised how authentic and delicious it is. And still hanging in many hours later!

Hey JackieB,
Do you ever take in your own sample vials and ask the SA if you can spritz so you can try at home away from all the smells of the beauty floor? They’re usually pretty good about it.

I have been into the lighter ones the last few days as it has been so hot. The last was The Body Shop’s Japanese Cherry Blossom and I find that it doesn’t have a lot of staying power. This seems to be a common problem for me with The Body Shop EDTs and Avons. I’m still looking for fabulous summer fragrances. Must pull out my Eaudemoiselle de Givenchy, as I remember this being good for summer, as is Jil Sander’s Style Pastels Tender Green, and Yardley’s English Rose.
Tonight I had a quick, carded spritz of Tiffany at DJs – I didn’t realise they had it there – and quite liked it, but I have seen so many of these for sale on sites like Gumtree, which surprises me for such a new fragrance.

Hey Sue,
That is interesting about the Tiffany fragrance. I wonder why they are there so quick. Maybe the journalists who get all the early releases are offloading them?

I enjoyed it more when I first tried it. It is very unique in the acquatic category, very expertly mimics the vibe of seaweed underwater on the seafloor. I think any fragrance that manages to be unique in the abused aquatic category deserves praise. But I did not enjoy it as much this time due to change in tastes, not because the fragrance is bad. I actually got the vintage version since the fragrance seems to have been reformulated, fresher and less of that signature seaweed note. I also get seaweed note in Bond No. 9 Wall Street but I hate seaweed note in Bond No. 9 Wall Street but seaweed note is done really well in original Bvlgari Aqua. One way to tell the difference between original Bvlgari Aqua and reformulated Bvlgari Aqua is that the original bottles had both “Bvlgari” and “Aqva” written on front of bottle. In the reformulated version, they removed “Bvlgari” from front so you just see “Aqva” now.

SonomaVelvet, it’s hard to describe. It smells like almonds and cherry blossom. It’s worth getting a sample of. It’s the only Amouage fragrance I can wear. Being Amouage, it starts with this loud blast of fragrance and what smells like moth balls to me. I know that sounds horrible, and I thought so too at first. But that dissipates really quickly and quiets down into this pretty, soft floral gourmand fragrance. I wore it on a really difficult day when I first got it, and it helped provide comfort. Since then, I reach for it when I want something pretty, spring-like, and comforting. I’ve gone through a few samples and that’s all I can see myself buying anytime soon. At $360 a bottle, it’s out of my price range right now.

It was a small spritz of Gypsy Water for the dentist appointment this morning, then changed over to MH La Fumée for a manicure. Now I’m making meatloaf in Bijou Romantique and pouting about my smudged nail polish 🤨.

So glad someone else uses Crabtree & Evelyn scents. Does the Turaco Orange last long?

I like this one- it was a birthday present. Seems oddly overpowering at first and I always feel like I’ve oversprayed but then it setlles and is wonderful. I would like it to last longer so I’m going to treat myself to the bath gel or a lotion to layer it. Will let you know how that works! It is perfect for the summer.

Still scentless but I think I will go with Pacifica’s Mexican Cocoa today…spices and cocoa…delicious and not too sweet. Happy Friday, folks!

Today I am doused in the spicy goodness (cinnamon and cloves) of Dame “Dark Horse”. I love everything about this perfume, and it is my go-to in winter.

MMMM…that is a good one! I might give myself a spritz of it in the evening 🙂

Have been meaning to put in an order with Dame for ages! It’s going to be my new year resolution. So many that I want to try.

I recommend them all..there is not one Dame that I don’t like…even the mens collection is wearable and quite lovely on a woman. And when you receive your order don’t be surprised to see a bunch of other samples thrown in. Jeffrey Dame is extraordinarily generous. If you order before 12/31/17 here is a 10 % off code-EQ9B. Anyone can use it 🙂

Scentless yesterday because (ugh) migraine. So doubling up today… Reek’s Damn Rebel Bitches for the day, and then for this evening, as that had all gone, picking up the orange with Cirebon (Paul Schütze).
(I love DRB but oh, how I wish it had more heft)

Was out for my Christmas Jumper Night on Friday, except that it was a Christmas T-shirt in my case. It has turned unseasonably warm suddenly. I’m not complaining at all. Wore OJ Orris Noir. It works well when you’re busting some moves on the dance floor 💃🏼👯.

Change of plans this morning due to the freezing rain we are getting so change of perfumes. Was going to go with Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit but I think I will go with Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir…spending the day in my bathrobe with oodles of tea….my kind of day 🙂

Oofles of tea wrapped in a bathrobe and Pomergranate Noir. Sounds delightful. Jo Malones are ghost like on me- barely last. Still hot here. No sprtiz today because we were in the mall and I’m overwhelmed by all the fragrances at this time of year. CW must’ve been having a perfume sale- needed a gas mask to walk past, Hope the shoppers all found scents they liked/wanted.

yes many folks complain about the longevity of Jo Malones but some will last on my scent eating skin and Pom Noire is one of them (same with Lime, Basil & Mandarin).

Top of my hand is now sporting Bee’s Bliss…it’s really quite lovely and reminding me of a more uplifting version of Jour Ensoleille. I STILL haven’t made it out of my PJs and bathrobe and it is almost noon!!!

Stay in your pjs and dressing gown all day Crikey….spend the day with…..yourself. Might I suggest alcoholic egg nog with Dean Martin and Bing Crosby playing loudly.

Tsk tsk!!! 😂 Was visiting a friend earlier at about 6pm and she still hadn’t made it out of her PJs. She was one of my T-shirt party pals last night, so all is forgiven. She had spent the day house cleaning, and was going to shower and put on fresh PJs after I left. We even had a little tipple of wine. Is it Christmas or something? I dunno, but I’m enjoying it.

I’m wearing Chanel Coco today, the current version. I’m still on the lookout for a vintage version at a reasonable price. While the newer version and the vintage smell about the same as the day wears on, I really miss the plushness of the original.

Happy Holidays, all! I think today (Christmas Eve for me) I will start out in a simple blend of lavender e.o. and sandalwood e.o. Tonight will be Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit -a few stolen spritzes from the bottle I gifted 😉
