Hi APJ,

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 25 – 31 December 2017

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:

  1. Thierry Mugler Womanity
  2. Oliver & Co Vaninger
  3. Neela Vermeire Creations Trayee
  4. Etat Libre d’Orange Yes I Do
  5. Evocative Perfumes Vanille Tonique

Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.

Last Weeks WINNER: Jyotsna

  1. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and happy Monday to everyone. SOTD is vintage Cinnabar parfum again, because I love it and it’s what I’ve worn on Christmas since 1980. Later today or this evening I’ll change over to Lagerfeld KL.

      • Oh my gosh, between perfume and fragrance spray/splash I’d say…geez, an awful lot. Scores. In the 80s into the mid to late 90s Opium was one of my signatures and overspraying was the norm, so easily 2 – 4 2 oz bottles a year; since then around a bottle a year plus perfume. Now I have this awful mental image of all the Cinnabar bottles I slayed. I have all of the perfume empties and a bunch of the others in boxes in storage, like the souvenirs any good serial killer might keep. I actually never thought of it in terms of how many over time before, ouch! =)

  2. Merry Christmas!!!!

Wearing a tiny drop of vintage Opium 🙂

Saving some skin for a test of Jo Malone Orange Bitters which is under the tree for one of the Marzipans (it was a gift with purchase that came with the Ginger Biscuit I bought her for her birthday).

and there are several chocolate covered marzipan logs under the tree for moi!!!!!!

    Like

      • The marzipan logs are gone 😦 But in my defense, I did not eat them alone!

Orange Bitters is fantastic…bright fresh spritz of bitter citrus with a sandalwood drydown…I wore it once on naked skin and then tested it again on a base of sandalwood oil to give it some longevity. The next morning I could smell it on my sweater and it was sublime.

  3. I chose my DSH holiday sample Hanukkah Canelle for this morning. It smells more than a little like a cinnamon apple candle. For dinner I will choose one of the other scents. Last night it was Dark Moon- Chocolate and spices. Going on the list for a travel size! Merry Christmas to all who celebrate.

  5. Merry Christmas, APJ! I’m wearing Lipstick Rose today, which I received as a gift from my brother (the only person in my family who likes to shop from a want list, as well as the only person in my family who seems to truly appreciate fragrance). Anyway, I smell glamorous. 🙂

  7. Bond no9 Chinatown for yesterday.
Today I’m thinking Mitsouko, or maybe last bit of Ambre Gris, or maybe Dame dark horse – decisions, decisions!

      • In your basement! Oh my! CM I adore this one, got a tester online at a good price ages ago when I first come across bond no9, but since then it’s skyrocketed out of my reach! And the bottle is super pretty

      • I keep the surplus less used perfumes in the basement where it is cool to keep the perfumes safe. Actually Chinatown was won by a younger Marzipan several years ago in a draw. She owns the 100ml bottle but doesn’t use it any more and willingly shares. Do check out some of the online retailers as it often appears heavily discounted making it more affordable.

      • Thanks CM, I love the fact that a) you have a basement and b) you have enough perfumes to store some in there! I’ll keep checking online and one day, the planets will align for me!

  8. Christmas smells good. I indulged in a luxuriously large dollop of 1950s Cuir de Russie extrait, which is still purring along smoothly twelve hours later. And the rest of our quiet, lovely day contained whiffs of the Egoiste I gave to my beloved, bacon sandwiches, a benzoin diptyque candle, warm cats basking in blankets by a radiator, and the glorious scents of saffron and lemon from the chicken tagine I cooked for dinner.

I hope that everyone who needs it gets a low key day of peace and comfort like this.

Heading to Melbourne….And in a change from tradition I’m wearing MANY spritzes of Estee.
Like Laura ,I have a tradition of wearing Winter Delice from 24th to 26th December, although only since mid 90s..or whenever WD was released lol

    Like

    • Enjoy Melbourne & your Christmas celebration, WD is a very Christmassy scent. Thanks for the wishes on my SOTD win. Portia and APJ are so generous. I’m in Canberra and don’t think Tauer ships here?

    • I have yet to sample Winter Delice but I imagine it’s wonderful. I managed to overlook Estee (along with Azuree) for decades when they were so popular; I didn’t dislike them but somehow had the impression that they weren’t for me. It’s only in the last five years that I’ve fallen hard in love with both, but particularly Estee. What a wonderful thing to wear for a trip to the city – or almost anywhere. =)

      • Oh you know about it 🙂 It has almost disappeared. You are so right, it is quiet fragrance. Even though my sense of smell is pretty good, I rarely smell it on myself even after immediate application.

Today was Shalimar, gift of body lotion from hubs and then Montale Blue Amber. Death by vanilla!

      • Montale is wild…I went to a perfumery in Prague that stocked every single one. Apart from the sight of all the metal containers, I could hardly decide which ones to sample. Fabulous!

  14. Will be heading to our favorite local Indian restaurant today for an all you can eat buffet (look out here I come with my insatiable appetite!). My childhood friend of HALF A CENTURY is coming up on the train from the city to visit me and the Marzipans and we are going to eat up a storm. I will be wearing Berdoues Grand Cru Cologne Assam of India (lemon, assam tea, mysore sandalwood) on a base of my homemade vanilla body oil (marinated vanilla beans in sweet almond oil) to which I have added a good dose of sandalwood e.o. I think I will be properly scented for my excursion today 🙂 and for those of you not familiar with this fragrance do check out the adorable marching elephants on the bottle. I bought this bottle with a gift certificate said childhood friend gave me several years ago and I bought it blind because of the elephants.

I will take inspiration from the two of you, girl up and get some on tomorrow. I’m wearing Desnuda today and despite saturating myself with about 9 sprays, it’s just not doing it for me, but I don’t want to mess with Charlatan so I need clean skin for it, I reckon.

I had been saving all of my discontinued Pacifica solid perfumes (hoarding them in my basement) but younger Marzipan is wanting to only wear solids so I decided to bite the bullet and bring them up for her (they were all untouched). I am really miffed that Pacifica has not only discontinued these scents but also discontinuing making solids.

Nonetheless, today I am wearing the solid of Avalon Juniper- grapefruit, heliotrope and juniper…and it has an adorable gray owl on the tin and box.

    • Wow that ‘basement itinerary is getting a shake up….Avalon Juniper sounds lovely. I took my bottle of Avon City Rush to work with me. It is a non descript scent… but did receive a compliment lol

      • I made a decision to NOT save anything and allow others as well as myself to enjoy what I have until it is all drained. Perfume is meant to be worn, not saved is my new motto.

My very first bottle of perfume (almost 47 years ago) was Avon’s Field Flowers. That bottle turned me into a perfume fanatic! I wore Avon for a good four decades but haven’t in the past few years as no one I know sells it (I used to work with someone who did). I love to see Avon mentioned as I feel that they make some pretty good fragrances at outstanding prices.

  27. I second you CM, don’t save it, wear it. Wear them all! That goes for nearly everything – shoes, necklace, fancy tea cup – whatever. We all know you can’t take these things with us. Of course we have our favourite scents but dont save them for a special occasion – wear it because you can. And because you deserve to! A lady at my work used to tell me off for wearing Florabotanica into the office. You should save it, she said. Save it for what? I love it and I love smelling it so i’m wearing it!
Enjoy life and your favourite things while you can ❤️

    • I’m with Melanie. Wear them! You buy them to enjoy. The scent in the bottle is never as magical as the scent on YOU.

Melanie – I have worked with people like the work lady. People vary, I’ve learned to ignore them.
And I love being here with my fellow perfume-lovers.

      Have a scentalious 2018, APJers!

    • Indeed….Sometimes a ‘special occasion’ is being able to wake up and get out of bed. I work at a nursing home, so I see many people at the end of their lives. Family bring in a few ‘special pieces’ to display in their rooms….There are lots of tea/cup/saucer trios, and a few Royal Daulton figurines. Not many perfumes. Wear what you want.

  29. Sorry for being away, y’all. Life, family, work. Been a busy few months.

I looked at a newly acquired bottle of L’Eau No 5 and realised it has been pumped a lot this week. I don’t even remember when I wore it. It is quite a lovely scent; just so quiet and gone after an hour. Still, a gift is a gift.

Many of Teone’s got a workout too. Antarctica has been a nightly must. Ritual has been my knightly armour to face the world and peopling. Dragonboat was worn to work on the hot days. I also got to know Juniper Bay.

I had a few sprays of Jardins de Bagatelle the other day, and I wore a surprise blind buy – Red Door Aura. It was dirt cheap and I had plenty of points to redeem. Not bad, for the hour it lasts.

Wishing everyone a marvellous New Year. xx
