Hi APJ,

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 1 – 7 January 2018

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:

  1. Monsieur Chanel vintage
  2. Jacob Silences parfum
  3. Guerlain Chamade EdP (vintish)
  4. Diptyque Rose de Mai 2016
  5. Le Galion Sang Bleu

Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.

Last Weeks WINNER: Neva

  1. Been wearing Guerlain Shalimar all day but decided I needed a night time change so Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess is getting a workout.
Woo HOO! I smell FAB U LOUS!

  2. This evening when I went for my run, I decided on a ‘different’ scent. It was Aromatics Elixir. I say ‘different’ because for exercise and workouts, I prefer the pink pepper and bright aldehydic scents, those that virtually sting the nostrils, not the sweet gourmand ones. Portia you would have smelt delicious as I read that Bronze Goddess is coconutty.

  3. Don’t enter me in the draw as I have quite a few of the above mentioned from your sample pack. But I will be chiming in all week in my usual fashion 🙂

Today is Jour Ensoleile…it is below five degrees fahrenheit and I needed something warm and sunny. Last night I wore Champagne du Bois. Lately I am on an SSS kick, Laurie is a master.

I’m wearing Diva Eau De Toilette for New Year’s lunch, while last night it was Shalimar Eau De Parfum.

  5. I wore Parfum Sacre on New Year’s Eve, – actually I saw Rouge d’Hermes in your Scent Diary post and went to get some of it but then I noticed Caron, and voila! I don’t think I can ever get enough of rose perfumes, a rose is not always a rose when it comes to fragrance.

This morning started with Tom Ford’s Jasmin Rouge. My sample’s drained and it’s a bit sad as I’ve quite liked this scent.

      • Thank you! Happy New Year to you, as well!

I own 4 different reformulations of Parfum Sacre (one of them is a 3 ml bottle but still :)), it’s one of my favourite perfumes ever made. The one I wore was made in the early nineties, the richest of them all.

      • Thank you, Portia! It’s always nice to meet a “perfume twin” (I mean, at least in regards to these frags): I blind-buy almost which means I have to make my choice based on somebody else’s opinion, it’s actually easier to make up my mind when I know the tastes of this particular someone.

        I hope you’re having a nice week!

Today was no. 19. It’s a scent I’ve struggled with a little: but this is the year when I will untangle it from its bad associations, and just enjoy its aloof gorgeousness.

  9. Happy New Year to everyone. I’m going to make a goal out of participating in this all week even if it’s just a short sentence with the name of the day’s scent. Too often on bad days I let this illness talk me into lurking here and elsewhere. So 2018, time for something new. Except perfumewise: Vintage No 22 parfum and edt for last night. Today vtg Chant d’Aromes extrait & edt, which I’m going to wear until it fades all the way – soon) at which time the night belongs to Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’s masterpiece Mata Hari.

Hermes Pamplemuse rose, and Twilly and Rubarbe eclarte, a little of Stella’s new Peony, the new Tory Burch blue bottle and some Gucci Bloom over remnants of SSS Nostalgie that I had on from last night. I actually quite like the Pamplemuse rose and the Rhubarb…. got samples and well I really like the Nostalgie.

Going to the beach for my daughter’s safe swimming programme, and it’s only going to be about 23C. Will have to think about it for tomorrow.

Yesterday was a diva day. Tubereuse Trianon by Le Jardin Retrouve, then Fendi’s Palazzo, then gym in YSL’s Cinema and Teone’s Sylvana to bed.

How do you all cope with shifting tastes? My choices a year ago are vastly different to now. Other than being expensive to go with my flow, it gets annoying. I MUST be as moody as my mother declares! As I choose based on my needs, I see, on paper, that I am all over the place. Who am I going to be this year?! It is kind of exciting to see where I’ll head off too, but one thing is certain, Guerlain, Teone and Hermes are here to stay.

I’m wearing Tom Ford Noir right now… I think I must misremember what I thought it smelled like before because it seemed like straight up Frankinsense when I tried it previously and now it smells quite a bit different. Makes me wonder if there are a bunch of TF noirs out there, noir for her, or noir de noir on top of noir or something. 30. Had some more treats arrive in the letter box so lots of stuff going on here! Long post alert!!
Tried Montale Moon Aoud and Steam Aoud as soon as i opened my parcel in the car – i have no patience when it comes to scent parcels! Very strange stuff, both of them. Initial thoughts were yuk on both. For the 20 minute drive from post office to home i still didnt like them. Moon aoud reminded me of a cleaning product and Steam was like an oily smell or an unscented massage oil
    – very non-descript. And i didnt get any oud. Strangely enough, after i got home i did want you are not supposed to do and i rubbed them together and then on one hand i got ‘steam’ – exactly like you had your head over the iron! Really weird scents – will give them another go but i’m not in a rush to do so. I did think Moon aoud might make a nice base to add something on top but then thought, Moon aoud is bit expensive (for me) to wear as a base and then spray something on top.

So this morning meant i had numerous samples to pick from – was going to return to S Lutens Safran Troublant – i do adore the clove in this but as today is going to be a bit warm i wasnt sure if that was the right choice so i went for Juliette has a gun Lady Vengeance – which i thought would be something totally different! was expecting something loud and fierce but its very soft – i can just get some rose but i have to sniff my arm really hard! was hoping for something a bit stronger as office is quite low on people today. will continue to apply for rest of day!
other treats in my delivery where some more Le Labo 33, Mancera Roses Vanille and some Slutens Louvre and Bal a Versailles to try out.
Portia – while fluffing around in the bathroom this morning i came across something i forgot i had – when you next in Melbourne look up L’Ascari. a little small batch perfume place. i have their solid cologne – blend 158 and had another scent which i adored, but dropped getting it out of my bag one day in the shops. looks like they have expanded to hand lotions etc – worth a look me thinks.

I love winter appropriate perfumes probably above all others, but I really needed a scent that would give me some cheer while putting some Spring light in sight at the end of my tunnel. So the morning was pretty, pleasant Shiseido Hyacinth perfume circa @1975, and now I’m wearing the heart-breakingly beautiful Sonoma Scent Lieu de Reves. I have trouble staying hydrated due to some major GI rearrangement in 2007 and generally being forgetful of drinking during the day so I often get my reminder from the dreaded dehydration headache. Ginger tea and once in a while sugar free ginger ale help with those.
I live in Philadelphia PA, where a blizzard these days is generally some massive matter of 5 or 6 inches that causes the entire city to clear all grocery shelves – right after wiping out the liquor stores. As a kid we did have some serious snows but now it’s just silliness.

  47. Today was further explorations from my friend’s sample gift. I didn’t even know Kielh’s did perfume and I actually don’t think they do any more but apparently for a while they did. And they made one called Vanilla and sandalwood and it’s really quite good. Really. Quite yummy. Just a fleeting pleasure I’m afraid because no more can it be purchased. Ah well.

  48. I don’t know why, but began the day in Bvlgari’s Pour Femme. Gorgeous scent, but not on a 43oC day. I found some Goutal’s Eau d’Hadrien at DJs on my sniffathon. Tried it. Nice. But gone in 15 min. I then found J’Adore in my hand bag and used that. WHY?! I need to pass that decant on. I never like it and it actually makes me feel nauseous. I think I put it in my bag to give to a lady at work. She will like it.

I am not sure what to wear. I received a bottle of L’Eau the Sat before Xmas. I’ve used a LOT of it. Trying to understand it. It alludes me. Doesn’t matter how much I apply, the result is the same. Barely there projection and gone in one hour. BUT it is a stunning scent. I might try that.

Or, as it is nearly bed time, I might just wear something by Teone. She rocks me to sleep every night now. Maybe Moonlight or Bodhi…

  49. Oooooooh! I nearly forgot… I am not buying much these days, but I found a L’Occitane bath oil for $20 today. Almost half price. I grabbed it. Pretty darn good! Bergamot is the star, yet it doesn’t over power the other notes. Fresh, comforting and not oily on the skin.

Reminds me…I need to get Baux by L’Occitane.

  50. Another ridiculously cold day but I will be wafting of sweet creamy sandalwood and lavender in Wood Infusion…Portia, it arrived!!!!! Came in the post last night and I wore it to bed. My skin amps up the sweetness but it is subtle and glorious. I will wear it today but then put it to the side to see how it does in the spring and then the summer. I think this would be a fantastic summer fragrance.

  51. Hot, hot, hot here in Adelaide, and I didn’t put on anything until tonight after the cool change, and of all things, I tried Hypnotic Poison for the first time. I’m exploring vanilla as I usually find it too sweet, but this is OK for me, and I think I might really like it in winter, I hope.

  52. Wearing Chanel №5 today, eau de toilette plus some body cream. The latter is marvellous, its citrusy part is sooo good! I wish I could find a liquid №5 version with the same accent on the top notes!.

  53. Charlatan. Thank you, Portia, for sending this generous sample around the globe for me. The sweet fruitiness is not something I would have thought to try, but I’ve been enjoying it. The juiciness of the pear is astonishing, rising up out the vanilla-florals. (also, himself loves it, and I think he might steal it for himself. He’s told me three times today how good I smell, and started waxing lyrical about working in a wood shop. Not seeing the connection, but, hey. He’s happy!)

Yesterday, Cuir Cannage. Which I am liking more and more, but I wish it went about two layers *deeper*.

  54. Olympic Orchids Mardi Gras today. Civet and orange blossom on my skin. The opening a little strong but I like the dry down. Just starting to explore OO and I’m super impressed. Plus I really like supporting indie perfumers!

  55. Today’s been all about lovely florals. I wore Sonoma Scent’s gorgeous Nostalgie during the sunlight hours. Now I’m powdered and perfumed with vintage Estee for bedtime. Yum.

  56. Crikey, thanks for reminding me … thank you, Portia, for my sample of Charlatan, which arrived on Friday. I will come back with my thoughts on this one, it’s made an impression.
Nothing on today, cleaning out my daughter’s room … whatever I had on would have sweated off!

  58. I felt quite unwell yesterday and didn’t wear anything and was a bit trepidatious today. I hate to unwittingly link a perfume to feeling unwell. Feeling much better today and Hermes Rose Ikebana seemed just the thing to gently waft around me. Funny, I don’t wear this terribly often but it always seems to be on a Sunday when I do. Interesting. to me anyway haha
