Hi APJ,
I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.
SOTD 8 – 14 January 2018
The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:
- Parfums DelRae Amoureuse
- Starck Peau d’Ailleurs
- La Via del Profumo Mecca Balsam
- Bulgari Lilaia
- Cult of Scent the Nightingales Cup
Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.
Last Weeks WINNER: ANNET Z

Went on an island today and wore YSL Kouros. I can’t think of another fragrance that makes me feel so confident. Massive complexity, but also such a distinctive character.
For the evening, the last of my sample of Bvlgari Mon Jasmine Noir. Warm, summery jasmine underpinned by some soft vanilla and almond notes. Easy to wear.

Some Guerlain Encens Mythique today for ambergris (though I have a sneaking suspicion that the ebay seller I acquired this half bottle from may have watered it down a little with a dose or three of perfumer’s alcohol, it’s still gorgeous).
Now home and bathed, into the Ambre Nuit. Because why shouldn’t I smell amazing while I read an utterly tedious journal article, in my jammies, and a great big scruffy shawl, and mismatched bed socks (oh, the glamore!).

A day of L’Orpheline (again, the Lutens thread pulled my hand towards that while dithering this morning). Possibly a little much for an early morning commute. Ahem. Mitsouko again yesterday, and yep, it’s down to the hold-the-bottle-at-weird-angles to get a spritz level of almost drained.

hi Jyotsna, I’d love to share, long post alert waved!
here’s what ‘we’ got…
YSL M7 Oud on Saffyishere’s wearing – deserves 2nd smell
Guerlain Vol de Nuit (classic) & Habit Rouge from Portia’s suggestions
Versace Pour Homme Oud – lovely oud, this is a stand out, I like it more than L’arts Al oudh
L’artisan Onde Sensuelle (don’t like this) Voleur de Roses (this is amazing – testing this now and it’s gorgeous)
S.Lutens Santa’s Majuscule (yum)
AGoutal Vanille Exquise
Oriflame Signature Heritage – blind pick that was worth it – big orange & pepper, really big at start but lovely finish
Zadig & Voltaire For Him – another standout, I nearly bought FB at Priceline’s this arvo but stopped myself in case I found another treeasure I love this bunch.
Then some I know and love
FMalle Musc Ravageur, LArt Vanille Absolument (I’m so in love with this discontinued treasure) Tom Ford Pour Femme & SLutens Un Bois Vanille.
I’ve gone a little crazy of late yet I can’t believe it took me so long to get on the decant/sample wagon. It’s a perfect way to try. Beats saving up for big bottles especially when there is so much to choose from.
Right now the L’art Voleur is winning hands down 🌹 xo

Vintage Bois des Iles edc today; now No. 22 Exclusivs extrait with vintage edt sprayed on top. I am searching like a madwoman for a replacement for my recently finished vintage parfum. I feel guilty for being unsatisfied with this modern version of the parfum because DH gifted it to me knowing I was out last year during a scary hospitalization. I know there are much worse reformulations and no one wants to hear it, vintage is over rated, blah blah. I read reviews all the time from people who think the current parfum is as good or even better than vintage but for me it’s like processed cheese to aged cheddar or polyester when you’ve worn silk. I think No 22 is one of the ones that most rattles me because it was so precious when I was young {I wore it for my first wedding) and because the Exclusives version has quite a lot less of the aldehydes than the old stuff (hard to believe) and I absolutely love those ridiculous, bright aldehydes. The edt and edc are great though and I *am* happy to have any or all of them. =)

Yesterday I realised that I far, far prefer smelling the Lush/Gorilla perfume Road from Damascus on my husband than on me. Which is ok, because he wears it quite often. (So many rose-centric scents seem to sour on me, just enough to make me uncomfortable and disappointed.)
And today I’m in the filthy saffron spicy rose of Theo Fennel’s Scent. Which is one of the few that doesn’t sour. But just rolls around on fur coats, chain smoking, wearing too much lipstick, stealing all best chocolates from the box, and swapping dirty jokes with Salome.
(Fille de Berlin is another one that survives my weird rose-destroying skin, but is chilly and fierce, for all its jam.)

Oh my gosh Theo Fennell, I love it and don’t know why I don’t wear it more – but I know now what I’m wearing today! Thanks =)

HURRAH. Hope you enjoyed the lushness today.
It’s a shame that this one vanished so fast from sale (and how lucky I was to snaffle some from the big cache of testers that appeared on ebay last year, having run out *years* ago.)

I think I am subconsciously saving my bottle of SL Five o’clock au gingembre, not much more than 20 ml left! Used that one Friday and Ambre des Merveilles yesterday and today.
Have forgotten to give feedback on the Amouage samples Figment Man and Figment Woman. I found them not very floral at all and weird. The male version is surprisingly the one I liked best, the other sample gets a new home with a friend of mine who wants to try it.
In Figment Man there’s something like a yeasted graham bread note early in the development, what might that be? The listed notes suggest a totally different experience than what I get on skin.

Hey Ingeborg,
They are unusual and take some nose recalibrating. I’m wondering if they’ll become my favourites if I wear them a bit?

Guerlain Shalimar Cologne. No, not EdC but the modern EdT Cologne.
I’m not sure what they were thinking when they named art but I smell very nice in a summer Shalimar kinda way.
