Saturday Question: Hands Up If You Got Fragrance In 2018

.

Portia

.

Hello Fellow Fumies,

Every Saturday we have a Question, an idea purloined from Olfactoria’s Travels. Everyone gets to chime in with an answer, chat with other responders and it is a fun event each week. Taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

The idea is you’ll see it on the weekend or chime in through the week. Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:

  1. Keiko Mecheri Camelia
  2. Annick Goutal Vanille Charnell
  3. Oriza Legrand Horizon
  4. Amelia Cologne Camelia Intrepide
  5. Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin

Last Weeks Winner: Jaybee

Saturday Question: Hands Up If You Got Fragrance In 2018

Yes, we are only a couple of weeks in but I know some of you have already had a splurge. Don’t be shy, we all know you wanted to even if you didn’t yet. So let’s share our various gluttonies. No holding back please. This is an all or all question. You’re among friends and we understand the need to feed this addiction. So FESS UP!

Got fragrance means into your hands. Maybe you bought some things online last year that have just arrived, were gifted someones Xmas unwanted, bought or found. We don’t care HOW you got it but has it appeared in 2018

My Answer:

OK, OK, OK! I have a few admissions to make

BOUGHT:

Well I did see that Surender To Chance has the Amouage Attars in stock so I might have splurged on them.

Arrived Jan 2018

ARRIVED:

The 4160 Sample Pack arrived. WOO HOO! (Having a ball going through them)

2 x Niki de Saint Phalle zodiac 60ml (on deep discount at FragX)

2 x Annick Goutal Sables (somehow I ordered 2 and not one. SO cheap from FragNet)

Annick Goutal Duel (original bottle tester from FragNet, Basically free)

Bal a Versailles extrait 4ml

Estes Lauder Youth Dew 4ml Bath Oil

My Saturday Question to you is:

  1. And some No 19 EDC I see there as well. It sneaked in somehow. Also, I think I get enabler pin for the Nikis. Reckon I mentioned them to you in the mods group. 😄

  2. From the department of “It would have been rude not to” to justify an impulse purchase: OK, so, with a 10% discount and a £45 refund from something else from months ago… that little 40ml bottle of Ambre Nuit was practically free. Ahem.

And, on the understanding that one can never have too much vintage Miss Dior, and that sets of miniatures can weave powerfully strange gimme magic… there *may* be a little boxed set of four 10ml vintage Dior scents in the post at the moment. And by “may” I mean, damn it, I should have sent it to home not work and it would be here now.

      • Quack quack!

Miss Dior, and her sisters Ella, Essence, and Issimo. While I realise Diorissimo rarely keeps her beauty in old age, here’s hoping they are in good nick.

    • I thought I was covered in terms of vintage Miss Dior but now I start thinking again…
And that 40 ml bottle of Ambre Nuit will be mine – as soon as they start selling them here
      Congratulations on your finds!

      • Thank you! With the Dior scents, the 40ml bottles were what tipped me over from hankering in the abstract after a several of these to buying three over the past few months. 125ml of almost anything seems overwhelming. There are a few honourable exceptions, though. I’d cheerfully commit to twice that of Mitzah, for example. (My bank manager might be less cheery, though.)

(It’s entirely possible I will be in the US later this year, if you are in need of a mule.)

        Like

    • Wait, is Ambre Nuit from Dior’s couturier line to be had in a smaller size than 125 ml now in the UK? Just wondering since I have someone shopping for me in London next month… I love several in the Dior lineup! No small size available on the international website.

      Like

      • Yes! The House of Fraser in Glasgow added a fancy new Dior section, with the full range of what-was-called-privee. And they have all the 40ml bottles. So I am assuming they are in all the other UK places where they sell the 125ml bottles, and larger. These small ones are not on the UK website, though, only in store.

  3. Oh wow Portia , you did good! Niki in the gorgeous zodiac bottles and Sables both heavily discounted!!!

I have not made any fragrant purchases thus far (trying not to) and am currently enjoying what I have. As of late I have been wearing the heck out of my essential oils (those count for the SOTD, right? As I might just continue with them next week…for some strange reason it is what I am craving).

I will enjoy reading about everyone else’s purchases 🙂

  5. So glad I’m not alone here with this constant craving for more new fragrances! So far I’ve only received one, that vintage Jicky I’d written about. Miraculously it arrived to Russia in only 7 days! It usually takes at least ten for any package to get here, so yeah, I was both pleased and surprised when it came.
And how beautiful Jicky is! I remember reading in a review that this perfume reminds them of Virginia Woolf’s and Sally Potter’s Orlando, a forever young human being free of sex limitatations. So true about Aime Guerlain’s creation, it’s 129 years old, yet it’s still going strong.

  7. I was on bit of a binge in Q4, so trying to take a buying break. I have filled and abandoned carts at Surrender to Chance, Fragrancenet and even eBay. Each time I come close I open my closet and reaffirm my resolve to use up (or test and move out) the vast sample collection that lies within. And when I get tired of sampling, I still have over 200 fragrances in larger quantity-bottles, decants, minis and roller balls – to choose from. (Some of them need to be moved out, too!)

    Like

      • I checked – 69 full bottles (over 15ml or so) – not too far from your number. In my spreadsheet anything less in a bottle or travel spray is categorized as mini. I had a thing about collecting minis for a while, and I have a whole bunch from Sephora bonuses.

  8. Grabbed two Tocca hair fragrances deeply discounted at Marshall’s: Colette and Liliana. My excuse? I didn’t have any HAIR fragrances yet! MMKinPA, I will have to follow your example and run to my cabinet when tempted! Oh, and I might have also slipped in a purse spray of Salvador Dali Purplelight, but in my defense, it was only $4, and the nose was Francis Kurkdjian. Who knew? And do Demeter frags count? Frags like Bonfire, Lilac, Chrysanthemum? Oops.

    Like

    • Well, Marshall’s/TJ Maxx purchases hardly count, and hair mist is definitely a hair product, not perfume!! I rarely have any luck at my Marshall’s- last time I saw Demeter Snow and Pumpkin Pie, neither of which enticed me.

      Like

      • I saw Pumpkin Pie too — not tempted. Nor by Baby Powder, as I have the real thing. You’re right — Marshall’s sometimes has something good but I have had better luck at TJ’s, and even better luck online. And I’m reaching the point where I will no longer buy cheapies but will save my pennies and dollars for a very few expensive scents. I’ve learned a lot from the cheapies, though!

  9. Oookayyy, a few small tiny little acquisitions: A backup bottle of Miss Dior parfum (yes, Portia, it’s your fault😇) a travel spray of D &G s The One, a set of 4 minis of L’artisan Parfumeur. See, not too bad at all. I’m the very picture of restraint.

  10. Yes, I’ve already bought a lot but all in the smaller sizes. I bought the Neela Vermeire Discovery Set which I have been eyeing for some time. (Unfortunately none of the ones I’ve tried so far seem to be working out well for me.) I also ordered some samples from Olympic Orchids having never tried that house before. And I purchased a spray bottle of Tahitian Gardenia from Pacifica because it was 25% off. Hard to pass that by when it was only around $16. Next up will be a small spray travel size of Cafe Tuberosa from Sephora and possibly a few more samples from STC. After that, I really need to stop for awhile 🙂

  11. I confess! I bought a bottle of Estate Amber from Solstice Scents and of course it arrived already, their turnaround time is legendary 🙂 it’s the most gorgeous amber. It’s like layering all of my favorite amber fragrances like Kuumba Made Amber Paste, eNVie saphir, Tauer LDDM, and then enrobing them all in an aura of Estate Vanilla. Dreamy!!!

I am in love with Chanel 1932…Strange name, isn’t it, especially since it seems to have no link to that year…It’s a subtle spicy gem, not over the top like Coco..This one could easily become a signature scent since it seems to be a body scent that also appeals to those who are close…You can wear it in public without anyone moving away from you..My sample is almost gone, so it’s a FB in my near future…

  16. Of course, I have bought. Almost all of my purchases have been backups rather than entirely new additions with the exception of dress code 2017 and vintage pasha though they arrived in late 2017. But today was a little unfortunate day. My third bottle of 31 rue cambon 200ml bottle arrived but damaged and with significant leak. the tube is damaged so I fear it will result in evaporation over time. I dont know if there is a problem with chanel les exclusifs bottles because my first bottle of rue cambon also arrived leaking. Only second bottle was a little fortunate and now third also arrived leaking. Chanel stands for quality yet this is how their les exclusif line has turned out for me.

    • just to add, I am trying to hoard Rue Cambon in edt formula (have not tried edp and dont want to since reviews say it has lost that interesting citrusy opening). Rue Cambon is probably my most favorite in the les exclusifs line.

      • Erm, well, there *are* several orders en route, including my last Sonoma bottles, and commitments with sellers for certain purchases have been arranged for each of Dear Husband’s paychecks into early March. I don’t foresee many needs after that for this year, but I don’t ever rule out a well-priced excellent condition beloved vintage, an exceptional new release like Dryad or the bi-annual DSH sale. =)

        Like

      • Uh oh.. I don’t know what exxy is *blush*. I get almost all of my vintage from eBay, and when it comes to my Lauders – Cinnabar, Youth Dew, Estee and my more recently beloved Azuree I buy them like housewives buy milk or tomato sauce: when my stock drops to less than enough for a visit to a fallout shelter I buy more. I’m lucky to be at a place in my life right now where I can jump on great deals, and I do. Aliage is calling me but the last time I wore it – probably the 80s – it didn’t love me so I’ve been holding off..I’ll probably cave the next time I do see a good bottle at a good price (not common with any of them except YD now as I’m sure you know!) As a young woman I never fell for some classics despite trying (in some cases repeatedly) over the decades. In the last two years I’ve not only found I like them all now, when they’re a huge pita to get, but I’m obsessed with several: No. 5, Poison, Miss Dior, Estee, Azuree & Cabochard. Like someone flipped a go crazy for these switch. So hurrah for eBay because there’s no where else around here that my mostly housebound self would be able to even hope to find any of them! I think you’re close to my age (though I still get my own kids mixed up so forgive me if I’m wrong) in which case you know the conundrum of being an older perfumista: I was lucky to live when great perfume full of naughty things like oakmoss & nitromusk was easily available and wearing it was not something likely to offend. I’m not buying blind. Otoh most moderns don’t satisfy, no one can tell me current Azuree is worth more than vintage. I spent sooo much buying popular moderns blind before I faced my sad vintage addiction. I’d love to have all of that back but anyhow lesson learned. =)

      • Hehe! 🙂 I have to be careful saying ‘I didn’t buy anything” when it comes to perfume – sometimes I get stuff in the post and I’m mystified until I open them and have an ‘oh yea…’ moment. But none of that this year so far!

I’m saving $ at the moment, so to keep me occupied I’ve been learning how to preserve – I’ve mastered cherry jam, and am just about to embark on green mango chutney. I’ve got about 5 kilos of green mangoes from my neighbours tree. Yay!
