Hi APJ,

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 22 – 28 January 2018

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:

  1. MFK Cologne Pour Le Soir
  2. Parfumerie Generale Eau de Lilas
  3. Keiko Mecheri Grenats
  4. Le Labo Baie Rose 26
  5. Worth Courtesan

Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.

Last Weeks WINNER: Diana

  1. Last night I found an essential oil blend in the basement that I made a while ago and forgot about so I wore that to bed…very heavy on the oakmoss that I got from Eden Botanicals. Today I am wearing a woody concoction I made for my daughter from pine sap I collected when we cut down a huge pine tree several years ago.

I also tested Wood Infusion on the hubs and holy cannoli it smells AMAZING on him!!! Definitely a unisex scent…versatile but sexy 🙂

    Happy Monday everyone!

    Like

      • it was a royal pain (very sticky so I had to mix in some carrier oil and then heat both to amalgamate) but so worth it…

        Like

      • oh lordie No! This is just a passion and a hobby that I have been engaging in for many years. Lots of experimentation with oils which is something I enjoy and encourage all of you to do as well. The sap involved me scraping the “ooze” from the cut tree into a glass vial, adding some sweet almond oil to it and then placing it in very hot water to meld them together….after that I just combined it with various other essential oils of my liking.

        Like

    • CM, I agree that Wood Infusion is a great unisex scent. It has a very different quality on my son’s skin. With autumn round the corner, I think it will really come into its own.

      Like

    • I am so impressed by your ability, chez Marzipan! I wouldn’t even have thought to collect the sap, let alone know what to do with it.
And the Wood Infusion sounds like a winner, too!

      Like

      • Well the sap was an accident…I got some on my fingers and loved the way it smelled so I collected it..and I figured I could get rid of the thick/stickiness by just diluting in a thinner oil….don’t be too impressed 🙂 ..believe me, we all know enough about fragrance that we could all play around and blend something nice.

The Wood Infusion is fantastic…I might just make it my SOTD tomorrow!

  3. SSS Equestrian. For some reason this is a huge love for me. The hay? In any case, when Laurie announced she was selling her remaining stock via email I didn’t hesitate to request her larger bottle of this. Fortunately I was apparently quick enough to get in the top of the queue and she was able to bottle mine before she needed to take a break. So I will have at least one of my beloved SSS perfumes in the larger bottle. Happy Monday! The snow is almost melted and I’m worried that it’s warm enough to trigger the hyacinth bulbs!

    • yay for you!!! had a feeling you would be one of the first in the queue 🙂

For some reason Equestrian was not a head over heels in love for me….but there are/were so many others in the line I absolutely adore!

I wore Dianthus by Etro yesterday. My namesake is gorgeous! I love carnations, this one is one of the best I’ve smelt so far.
And today, it’s Issara. Smells like a forest in summer.

      • Hey Kate! A couple of soliflores I’ve liked (but haven’t bought full bottles yet 🙂 ) are Oeillet Bengale Aedes de Venustas and Vitriol d’oeillet Lutens (not sure about the latter, though, it’s peppery).
Being a die-hard Guerlainophile I love and wear l’Heure Bleue and its Russian counterpart (it was made decades before LHB!) Krasnaya Moskva (“Red Moscow”).

I thought I would love Bellodgia but that never happened. Do you have any favourite carnations?

I am rather keen to try a challenge. A 5 day wear or a use up decant/sample or cheapies for a week kind of thing. Anyone got any ideas?

  7. I am wearing Shiseido White Rose and that, too a vintage version. Guess what? Tea Rose is very close to it. The White Rose I am wearing is dark brown in color while the modern White Rose is almost transparent so I don’t know whether the modern White Rose also smells close to Tea Rose. Mine is really really heavy rose fragrance with green facets as if the smell of stem has also been incorporated besides the flower.

    Like

    • I had a sample of the modern White Rose and loved it…transparent is a good description of it! I think Tea Rose (from what my nose remembers) was headier…

      Like

      • That may be why my vintage White Rose reminded me of Tea Rose because it is kinda heady and not really transparent. This is why I was not sure whether modern White Rose is exactly as vintage or a bit different. The modern has transparent liquid while my vintage is dark colored, just like Youth Dew.

  9. Almost over whatever this bug is; I’m still coughing and tired, but the fever and headaches are gone, so I am very grateful. We’ve had very high temperatures in the last week with a few cooler days but back to the heat horrors by the weekend. Australia Day on Friday is going to be very hot and it looks like 40C for back to school!
I usually struggle trying to find something to wear in the heat, and I have not worn any fragrance at all since I got sick so today may be the day to get back on the horse. Suggestions for cooling, calming notes, anyone? Hope you’re all having a good day.

    Like

    • Lavender is always calming for me…frankincense and citrus can be cooling…do you have any 4711 on hand or any citrus colognes? anything from the Atelier cologne line?

      Like

      • Hi CM and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I will look into your suggested notes, thank you. Lavender has been a bit of a challenge for me but I would like to find one that I love.
I am ashamed to say that my late grandfather used to gift me 4711 all the time when I was little … and I kept none of it, but obviously it’s time to introduce myself to it again.
I do have Serge Lutens Fleurs d’Oranger, which I love but I find it really gutsy (which is one of the reasons I love it), so needing something a little gentler. I did wear Givenchy’s Eau Demoiselle yesterday and that was good, but did seem to fade quickly. The day before I went for Yardley’s English Rose – simple and clean. Today is Versace’s Bright Crystal, which is something I never thought I would like as it’s pretty sweet, but I had forgotten how good it is for summer – bright but somehow cooling.

        Like

      • Thanks, Saffyishere. I’m going to investigate citrus, thank you. I’ve never thought I was a fruity fragrance person, but I need to broaden my horizons. Thanks for those ideas.
I’m getting better, but I wish I had a fragrance that lasts as long as this lurgy!

    • Sue, sorry to hear you still not well. Us Adelaide gals might soon all melt – i know we should be used to summers like this but i dont seem to handle them so well anymore. Like

      • Thanks, Melanie, yes, that melt factor is real! Very glad to see that the temperature is coming down next week.
Must admit, despite, like Seinfeld’s Kramer, being desperate to find a true ocean scent, I don’t actually have any aquatics or marines … needs to be rectified!

  10. After wearing heavier perfumes and vintages for a while, I needed something fresh and floral today. I’ve chosen a sample of Magnolys from Andree Putman Perfumes expecting a magnolia dominated perfume. Well, all I can smell is peach and since I enjoy peach as a note in perfumes I was really happy the whole day. Bonus – it still lasts and it’s alredy 11 pm. I think tomorrow I will repeat this exercise.

Sunday: I was decanting perfume for my fab Mother in Law so I got soaked in vintage Paloma Mon Parfum, but I got cleaned up and wore Guerlain Nahema to bed.
Monday: Day: Tauer, Un Rose Chypree Night: Jicky, Guerlain

    Like

  14. So today I decided I would go back to one of the sadly neglected scents and this was Precious Oud by Van Cleef & Arpels. How one’s tastes change over time. Once I adored it but today I am finding the wood and oud just too much, it has a bit of that cheesy gourmand note to it, which could be the oud. This was 1 of a 3 set by Van Cleef and I actually love the Gardenia Petale and Ambre Imperial much more.

  25. Hey all…Sorry I missed you yesterday.. to tell you all about my Tuesday and Wednesday scents.
Tuesday I wanted something with rose…I couldn’t find the sample of Nightingale’s Cup, so thought I’d use my bottle of Summer Roses by Stella McCartney…Well while reaching in my perfume drawers, I brought out another bottle; vintage C&E Gardenia…so I smelt of gardenias not roses. On Tuesday night before I went to bed , I searched in my many places I stash my samples and found the Nightingale’s Cup…gorgeous ‘waxy’ rose. The jury is still out on this.
Thursday morning, and dreading going to work…I fear my BP is sky high, and I feel ‘wobbly’. So to keep me calm I’m wearing Yardley’s Lavender.

The lavender did help…in fact at one time during last nights shift I was so busy/ overwhelmed I felt I was on the verge of tears/ panic attack…so I delved into my handbag, sprayed some more of the Yardley’s Lavender, took a few deep breaths, and carried on

I went back to my car and ripped it open, I even had a scissors with me to speed up the process. I took it out, gave a tentative little spritz on my arm to test if it had turned, took a big sniff. Whooee, it was flipping marvellous. And what was it that caused all the excitement? Max Factor Stevie B from the early 70s. Does anyone remember this? Or am I walking a long lonely road through the wilderness? The very top notes are a bit faded but 6 hours later it’s still going strong. I am super happy with it.
