Oliver & Co Stand Alone Store Opens + Nebula 1 & 2 GIVEAWAY

Hey there lovers of extraordinary fragrance,

Oliver & Co seems like a house that flies under the radar. I don’t understand it. The perfumes are interesting, challenging and bizarre but most of all totally wearable. To anyone passing you in the street you’d just smell awesome. It’s the detail, the fragrant stories, the unusual juxtaposition of ingredients and stellar longevity that all make them so buyable to me.

Oliver & Co Stand Alone Store Opens

Introducing the first-ever Oliver & Co. retail store: Madrid

This is really exciting news. I’m so happy for Oliver Valverde and wish him enormous success with his newest venture. Imagine dropping in and conversing fragrance with a perfumer and further, the creator of his own house. It makes me want to pop down while in Europe in April/May. Since I first tried the Oliver & Co range it has stood out to me as something special.

Edited from the Oliver & Co Press Release: According to the ancient alchemical tradition, the number seven stands for a full cycle. Seven years after launching its first fragrances, Oliver & Co. writes a new chapter of its story with the opening of the brand’s first flagship store in Madrid. Oliver’s background as a DJ and a sound engineer has been transposed to the stores ambience of dark electro music venues. The final result is an atmosphere, somewhere between a techno club and a moonlit garden.

Oliver Valverde is a self-taught fragrance designer, and he followed the same intuitive philosophy to design this space with the collaboration of his friend, the interior designer Nacho Amago. No rules is the best rule. In a time when perfumery is lost in an ocean of indistinguishable, identical references, Oliver & Co.’s store opens its doors to the public and dives into the contradictions that fuel the brand: mystery and transparency, distance and closeness, light and darkness. Pure alchemy.

Another important thing is that Oliver will be there attending customers. Imagine spending a couple of hours learning his fragrances and talking to the creator about why he made those choices. It would be a personal Master Class.

  1. I follow via email and Facebook.

I have been to Spain: Alcala, Segovia, Toledo, Madrid but would like to visit Andalusia and also the south of Spain/Sevilla.

I have tried these Oliver scents:
    Dunard
    Gincense
    La Colonia
    Mousse

I have a friend who is a physicist and specializes in Dark Matter plus another friend who works for NASA and is a Mars expert. I think it would be appropriate to wear these while visiting them! Or to wear to an observatory or astronomy club meeting!

  2. Well now I would love to visit Madrid just to see what a store that’s a cross between a techno club and a moonlit garden looks like 🙂 and of course to smell the perfumes. Actually having never been to Spain, I would love to visit just about anywhere there. I follow via email. Thanks for the draw!

  3. Ok, I plan a visit to Santiago de Compostela and I follow by email. Today I’m trying out a sample of Vaninger. It’s an unusual gourmand. The more I wear it, the more I like it. Longevity is great!

  5. What a great giveaway! I love Oliver & Co’s Vetiver, would love to discover more of their perfumes.

I almost always choose the scent of the day or night according to my emotional state or the statement I want to make, if any (e.g. I often wear leather frags when I go to the autoshop 🙂 ) so I’ll only mention the places I’d really love to see in Spain. I love this country, its beautiful language, and I’d love to visit Barcelona first to see the Gaudi’s works especially la Sagrada Familia and la Casa Batllo. Also, Alcazar in Seville. I’ve always wanted to go there, and having watched all the Game of Thrones seasons last summer has rekindled this desire 🙂

I follow by email and via FB.

  7. Spain is one of my next European destinations. We’re planning a three-week trip to Austria with friends in August. But the year after that will likely include Spain. Barcelona is an obvious choice for me because of Antoni Gaudi. I would wear either Nebula while taking in all the fabulous Gaudi architecture.

  8. Thanks for the giveaway Portia. I’m thinking Nebula 1 sounds like an out for lunch with my girls type scent. Sitting out on a deck, over looking the vineyard. sunny day, lots of chatter with wine in hand. Nebula 2 i’m thinking night out with my partner, going to a show/music or caberet perhaps where you squashed in a little tent and the warmth of the night air makes everyone around you wonder who is wearing that gorgeous scent! 9. I love the interior decor of the store. If I build a house, I would like one of the rooms to have this dark vibe. I am quite fascinated with space so I will wear it if I go for star gazing to a place with clear night sky. I follow APJ by email and FB.

  10. Thanks, Portia. I would love to visit the Alhambra. I follow by email.

I am learning Islamic art and I read that the Alhambra tiles contain nearly all, if not all, of the seventeen mathematically possible wallpaper groups. These tiles are said to have inspired M C Escher.

  11. Hi Portia and thanks for the opportunity. I would like to see Spain by walking the Camino de Santiago – or at least some of it!
What beautiful bottles and retail space!

  12. I follow by email. I have never been to mainland Spain. Bilbao and Barcelona are both high on my list of cities to visit, both to see examples of universal design and for all the art and fabulous food. Having said that, my sister enjoyed Madrid much more than expected some years ago, so there’s a possibility I will visit at some time.

The bottles look rather fab, does one get the same impression in real life? Cannot tell if these two perfumes are creations I would love, such special combinations of notes, intriguing.

  13. Nebula 2 sounds like a lovely scent to wear out to a lunch date – somewhere overlooking the water, with my girlfriends, delicious food and lovely wine. Nebula 1, to me, seems more mysterious, so I’d definitely wear that on a date night with my honey.
