Hi APJ,

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 19 February – 25 February 2018

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:

  1. Annick Goutal Sables
  2. Vintage Fendi original
  3. Vintage Caron Infini PdT
  4. Tom Ford Ombre de Hyacinth
  5. Creed Iris Tubereuse

Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.

Last Weeks WINNER: NEVA

  1. Decided to test Dassein Autumn before the weather warms up tomorrow. This is a cinnamon bomb on my skin! Haven’t tried any others yet from this line…the bottles really intrigue me.

      • LOL! then I will accept it as the perfume gods smiling down on me!!! But I want to spread your generosity as well (given that I have already won before)

  3. Miss Dior for me today. Had myself a busy perfume Sunday. I did a bit of sorting and separating. And decanted some vintage lovelies for my friends who I was meeting for dinner. They were a big hit and generated some great conversation.

  4. Work today…a mist of Citron Boboli by Le Jardin Retrouve all over my top. Very subtle and wish it lasted longer.
Epic Woman body lotion is SOTB.

    • I love Epic Woman! I didn’t know there was a body lotion.
Hmm- I read about Citron boboli recently – here on apj? Must re-read.

Most people don’t understand my obsessive love of the fragrance world. Thank goodness I have one close friend who does and we love gifting samples to each other and sharing new discoveries. And my husband is very tolerant!

  6. Naja today. I’m already wondering how long I can eke out this 10ml decant, given the terrifying price of the stuff. But, oh, what glorious stuff it is.

    • Crikey I have a notion that it was you who mentioned NR Santal Musc a while back? I just found a tester mini on eBay in case you’re interested. It’s expensive stuff as it’s only in 100ml bottles and there’s no way I would shell out that. I don’t need 100ml of anything anymore. If it wasn’t you then just ignore the ramblings of this mad person😏

      Like

      • Hi Cassieflower, might have been me for the NR Santal Musc. I’ll be surprised if it ever gets to oz but you’re right – 100ml is too much! i keep checking the two decant sites i use so maybe one day it will show up there. you’re not mad!!

    • Aliage, Y, Ivoire and no 19 are the ones that come to mind. They have all been compared to Givenchy III. But I don’t know anything about current formulations. Also, AG Heure Exquise is beautiful as well…somewhat similar to no 19.

      • I have Aliage, Y and No. 19. Ivoire was beautiful, but not the current formulation. I will check out Heure Exquise, thanks for the tip.
And today I’m wearing vintage No. 5 parfum.

  9. L’Artisan Mure et Musc for me today. Berry musky – ha ha
Finished off my sample of Atelier Vanille Insensee last night – its really lovely straight up but very soft and does not last long at all on me. Rajkumari is the current standout from my Evocative sample set – jasmine, rose, patchouli and incense – worthy of another sample, or maybe a 12ml rollerball. I still have a few others to give a second spin.

    Like

    • I have a sample of Rajumari. Sadly something about it ‘irritated’ me lol…I will try it on hubby, and keep it for a cold day….it may very well develop ‘nicer’ in cooler clime

  10. I have been wearing Calandre over the last 2 days. I didn’t realize it is so beautiful and so timeless. And it is very unisex by today’s standards. While its similarities to Rive Gauche are well known (Calandre came first), it also seems like a distant relative of Madame Rochas if my memory is serving me well.

  11. Yesterday I wore Wrappings by Clinique….a bright and clear green scent. I got a decent 4 hours ,before it had disappeared. I then used a couple samples; on left wrist, the last of my Teone Bodhi and the right wrist Chanel 18.
A side note; My husband asked me to choose his Monday SOTD…… He was wafting the vintage Jules.. and I was in heaven. For bed I wore some Yardley’s lavender to assist sleep.
It is Tuesday morning… I’m full of energy after a very good sleep; My chosen scent is a sample of Penhaligon’s The Uncompromising Sohan.

Not something I would have thought to check out, but oh so beautiful and feminine. Powdery floral with just enough vanilla to please my gourmand palette. Perfection.

  25. I have around 12-14 samples of Byredo so I am going to commit to sampling them all. Today is Pulp which is perfect as we are expecting unseasonable warm weather (sadly not to stay, tomorrow it dips back down again). Something about this reminds me of Prescriptives Calyx (the original from the mid 1980s which was my summer go to for eight years). I find it amazing that for every perfume there is a twin or sister or cousin……something similar enough to scratch an itch….which works well when certain fragrances become discontinued.

  28. Trying out the NR Santal Musc today and it’s ‘very nice’ rather than gorgeous. It has good projection and has been working hard for 7 or so hours now and no sign of diminishing yet. It’s bugging me though, it is similar to something else and I can’t think what it is. I’m glad to have it to try but don’t need a full bottle. NR are bringing out Narciso Rouge soon, if not already. The bottle, wow😍

    Like

    • I have tried one or several of the NRs but the bottles/names are so confusing that I don’t quite know which ones I have or haven’t tried. Are they all focused on the sweet musk? because that is what I remember from what I sampled thus far.

      Like

    • Cassieflower, six Narciso’s hey! thats pretty good. I’m about the same in numbers. There’s slight differences between them all for me and some last longer than others. Original for Her in black bottle with pink writing (EDT) i think is the stand out. Seems we (meaning Aust) dont get access to some of the others from the line like Santal and a few others i can see on google images. Might be a good thing for my piggy bank xo

      Like

      • Just sprayed the top of my hand with one of them…the sample is black and the writing is pink (along with the cardboard it comes in) so I am assuming it is the original for Her.

    • Sycamore is gorgeous. I tried really hard to sway hubby toward Sycamore when we were last at the Chadstone Chanel store. He didn’t like it, however we both agreed on Coromandal, so a bottle of that came home with us. Sycamore is still on ‘my’ want list

      Like

    • When I first tried sycomore on a blotter I was so underwhelmed. It just smelled like damp cardboard. The canny sales assistant gave me one of her precious samples. Yeah. I bought a bottle within a week. Because it’s a different beastie on skin.

  35. Voyage d’hermes today which is a scent I had got a mini of when I started out my fragrance journey but has dismissed as not me. So there I was, last night, sorting through the ‘to be passed on’ pile of samples and mini’s when the cute bottle called to me… and oh….what was I thinking? Or maybe my tastes have changed? I don’t know but I sure am enjoying wearing it again this morning – lemony, spicy, a crisp almost starched linen note – just the thing for this humid summer weather.

    Like

    • It really is a good choice in the heat! I bought a bottle before Christmas and found it doesn’t wear equally well in real winter weather, so have put it away. Obviously summer here would be more like the spring weather in Australia!

Desert Rosewood is gorgeous so far, rich and a little spicy with a hint of fruit and vanilla.

Blue Cypress is…unexpected…there’s an aquatic note amongst the cypress trees. Not like Bracken Woman or L’Ombre Dans L’Eau but a…beachy isn’t right…nearly swampy like Un Jardin sur le Nil…but fresher? I’m not describing it very well. Looking at the card it’s inspired by Kakadu ao that makes sense. All the same it’s broken my brain a bit because it isn’t a combo I’ve encounted before. Waiting to see how it develops.
