Hi APJ,

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 26 February – 4 March 2018

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

  1. SOTD was JHaG’s Gentlewoman because I wasn’t feelimg it on a mondsy morning and that lastinh neroli almond burst is my perfume equivalent of a vitamin shot 😉

    • Almond you say???? I am on an almond/marzipan/ cherry-almond quest (like the scent of Jergens Original lotion which my hubs adores)…will have to look up the notes of this one…..

      Like

      • I presume you’ve tried Guerlain’s La Petite Robe Noire’s? Black Perfecto is a almondy rose maquerading as an almond cherry confection, and the La Petite Robe Noire EdP IS an almond cherry macaron…

        Like

      • yes, I have indeed tried Black Perfecto…my skin amped up the cherry and it was a bit like cherry cough syrup with minimal almond (absolutely delicious , though….I went through my decant rather quickly)…I will look into the La Petite Robe Noire lotion…although I could probably just go with the Jergens and save money-LOL!

  2. Yay, Saffy! btw, I am on the third episode of the last season available on Netflix (season three) of the Doctor Blake Mysteries…in true Portia fashion I am binge watching 🙂 Love this series! Ballarat looks so idyllic and quaint…is it still like that?

Testing Byredo m/mink (odd little bird) and Sunday Cologne (pleasant). When I get to work I will freshen up with Marbert Man.

    Happy Monday, all!

  3. Hi, APJ’s. It’s a chilly morning here, but the birds are singing a song about spring, and the light is so much brighter on my porch. I’m wearing Gem by Van Cleef & Arpels. Patchouli punch needed.

    • Hi Alanna, no one has mentioned Gem for such a long time. I remember its beauty from back in the eighties. Is it still available? Or do you have a vintage version of it?

  5. Saffy, congratulations!

Chanel №5 body cream. It seems like this might be my favourite version of the legendary scent, even though it’s so hard to choose between all of them.

  6. I am still sampling Robert Graham Fortitude. A strong like so far. It is listed as masculine but who cares. It caught my eye because of the gorgeous bottle. It is mainly sweetish tobacco on me. Oh so nice!

    Like

      • Hi Saffy. I never tried Tobacco Vanille, so I can’t compare. I will add that I’m usually not fond of sweetness in fragrances, though there are exceptions. Fortitude is one of them. It lasts along time too. I got the sample online from Twisted Lily.

  7. Bois des Iles EDT as we head back into another freeze (well, a British type of freeze, which is frankly laughable compared to the real cold elsewhere.) I was tempted to go full whack no prisoners taken ambery goodness, but then remembered that the office is airless, and currently overheated by people with heaters under their desks which makes it godawful stuffy.

(And makes me grumpy, when someone is sitting in a sleeveless shirt complaining about the cold, and whacking the heating on rather than a jumper. GRR!

Last drops of my sample of Aeon 001 yesterday. It was amazing. And orders of magnitude better on me than the Pour Monsieur I’d worn in the morning, that lasted, oh, seven minutes? Maybe eight?

Yesterday was lots of Dzing and it lasted right up to home time. And, i just ordered the discovery set from Fort & Manle – super excited!

    • Melanie- you must keep us posted on the Fort & Manle set!
I’ve only tried Charlatan (thank you, Portia). My son & I giggled over the purple hat one (the name, of course) so I might sample that.

  9. I am going to do my sampling ahead of time on my last two Byredos..so for tonight it is Blanche (my wonky nose can barely smell this one..it’s extraordinarily subtle) and Inflorescence (lily of the valley and I am liking this one the best).

I am saving tomorrow for my St.Clair Scent samples which have just arrived in the mail.

Last night I sniffed her three creations from the vial and this morning on skin is Gardener’s Glove…gorgeous stuff. I could be wrong but my wonky nose smells tomato leaf….an unusual note I adore in perfume. Looking forward to giving the other two fragrances in her line some skin time as well.

  19. happy hump day!

Testing St Clair Scent First Cut….Marzipan’s wonky nose interpretation:

Some sort of sunny yellow lemon citrus (bergamot?) paired with a sweet floral suede-ish lavender (must be lavender absolute which smells different from regular lavender…it is the same type of lavender used in HG Voyage which gives it that suede effect) and perhaps vanilla then segues into soft honeyed hay that has an every so slightly animalic edge and the drydown is sweet florals. It is a diaphanous and gorgeous scent that sits relatively close to my skin. However, I have a dabber so I am wondering how this would present if sprayed liberally?

Y’all need to talk me out of buying a full bottle!!!!!

  24. Have been testing my two new perfume purchases, Ambre Nuit and Le Labo Iris 39. My BIL is a real gem and did the shopping for me in London. So I now own 15 ml Iris 39 and 40 ml Ambre Nuit. But NO samples thrown in at all (Dior at Selfridges and Le Labo at the Le Labo shop). What??? Don’t they want returning customers? When my old father bought me perfume in Vienna he got 3 niche samples for me and a few for himself. It’s disappointing not to receive samples with a purchase, especially from lines with a limited distribution!

All that said, both perfumes are excellent and I’m going to bed smelling of irises (without too much grated raw carrots in the fume cloud).

      • Yes, please, crikey! I like Avignon and Messe de Minuit but I still haven’t decided if they are full bottle worthy.

  52. Vol de Nuit, modern eau de toilette. All this talk about applying perfumes generously made me do so, and it was ah-mazing!

    • You smell fantastic Diana. I’d never heard of this scent until i won a little decant of Vol du Nuit Evasion from the most lovely Portia. I’m now a happy owner of a FB of Vol de Nuit 🙂

    • You know I keep trying Galop in department stores and not really living it Lillibet. It smells so much better on the other people wearing it but just kinda falls apart on me. So bummed because I freajking LOVE the bottle.

    • I really like Galop d’Hermes. I’m going quickly through my decant, but first I had to get used to it with a standard sample. I feel the quince note rather strong and it feels kind of apple-like on me. The rose and leather are a great bonus. Do you have FB of Galop?

  54. Hello all. A really bad episode of insomnia again… I’m really ‘over it’. Anyway, Sloth Day has arrived and I’m watching the Oscars, in my jimmy jammies.
Last weeks prize from Portia arrived an hour ago, but I haven’t tried any as yet. Hubby applied a very healthy dose of his YSL M7 Oud Absolou
