Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 26 March – 1 April 2018
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

Woot! The site is back up 🙂
Bois des Iles EdP for me today to match the cool autumn morning we had this morning.
LikeLike
I haven’t tried the EdP yet but I love the other two congratulations. Do you smell significant difference with EdT version?
LikeLike
I’ve never tried the EdT because I fell down the rabbit-hole after they’d been discontinued – or at least by the time I got around to trying the Les Exclusifs. The parfum IS gorgeous though. I’m just trying it now thanks to ‘accidentally’ walking past the Chanel counter on my way to french class…
Seemed like a good opportunity to test it next to the drydown of the EdP…or just a good eccuse to test it LOL

totally off topic but you and hajusuuri twisted my arm so the three eyed edible macaroon owl is back 🙂

YES, we’re back on air 🙂
It’s sunnier here but still colder. I’m wearing a sample of Delina by Parfums de Marly. The rhubarb/lychee note is strong and very pleasant, mixed with a rose and musk in the drydown.

I am doing my happy dance now because APJ is back!!!!!!!!!!!
yesterday I wore L’Eau de Kasaneka with a shout out thank you to Tara because I love this one…my skin amps up the ambrette seed and it is a musk that lasts all day long on my scent eating skin.
today I may go with either Ginger Musk or Soleil de Capri…two Montales I have never worn.
So so happy everything is back on track on APJ 🙂

OOO and I forgot to say I also tested Stash for the first time…my wonky nose initially smelled pickles but the drydown which is still on my bathrobe is sweet incense…I think this would make a great cold weather scent.
LikeLike
I should retry Stash.
I tried it a few years back as a newbie perfumista and found it confronting with almost a BO note in it. But it may well be that now my nose will react differently.
LikeLike
Stash was full on pickles!!! Lucky for me I love pickles! But the drydown has lasted forever on my robe and it is pleasant. When you try it again let me know what you think.

It’s the cumin that gives the BO note Lillibet.

Sweet incense is right. That base really lingers.

Yipppeeeee. Glad you tried Stash.. yes fabulous on a cold day.

Ginger musk sounds intriguing so do report back!

Many of the MOntales I have sampled have been powerhouses. But Ginger Musk is very light and I can barely smell it on myself…it’s on my neck right now. Maybe I need to go a bit more heavy handed with this one. On my wrist is the Soleil de Capri which is full on citrus and I am loving it. Now that I am in work I also applied a tiny bit of Sublime to the top of my hand to test it out.

very excited to hear what you will be sampling and purchasing in paris!!!! I discovered and fell in love with Annick Goutal when I visited paris 24 years ago. I am sure now the perfume offerings have increase massively!

You would not *believe* how many perfumeries we walked past this evening without planning (not even in that “whoops, we are outside this amazing place I didn’t actually look up and coincidentally steer us to, honest” way.) Nicolai, malle, diptyque, Guerlain, ELDO just for starters. Saving them for a solo jaunt.

I will make a point of trying some AG because of your comment though. Barely know her stuff.

Oh my lord, crikey!!! How did you stop yourself from entering each and every shop?
I hope the Annick Goutal does not disappoint! If I am not mistaken it has been bought out by a large corporation and there has been discontinuations and reformulations as well. I remember some of those old loves of mine- Folavril, eau de Camille and Eau de Ciel (which was the first bottle I bought from the boutique in Paris during my first trip).
Do let me know what you try even if nothing moves you.

Eau de Camille is gorgeous.

I’m sitting at a desk in a former art studio in Paris, writing some up some PhD notes and keep being distracted by the amazing combined scents of the hyacinths we bought, a bowl of clementines, and the mug of fresh coffee I just made…
(I try to make my study at home smell good when I work, but this is something else.)
LikeLike
That sounds amazing! Fresh hyacinths are so potent. I worked in the Netherlands for a while and there was a field of them behind our office – stunning in every way. Of course when they fertilized the fields that was also stunning…but in a different way LOL

A whole field of them? That must have been a sight–and a smell–to knock you out. Would always be able to tell the direction of the wind, too.

Yay, APJ is up and running again!
I was scentless the whole day but I’ve finally got some Chanel No.5 body cream on.
LikeLike
I’ve never tried the bodycream. How is it?
LikeLike
It’s gorgeous, Lillibet! Frankly, its scent might be my favourite of all the No.5 versions and concentrations, – it’s heavier on citruses (close to Eau Premiere circa 2009) but still has ylang-ylang and rose from the extrait.

Mmm…that does sound good!

Testing some more samples from Parfums de Marly. Today it’s Safanad, a creamy floral bouquet starting off with orange blossom. Vanilla makes it too sweet for my taste.

Yes it is. Lovely for a comfort/sleep scent which is probably how I use it most.

Testing an unknown fragrance this morning… Laura Tonatto’s Fior d’Arancio….gorgeous orange blossom…this is spring in a bottle to me…and it’s potent, which is a good thing as I overslept and could not take a shower 🙂
I love the experience of having these unknown discoveries!

and I could not wait until tomorrow to test two SM Novellas I had never heard of…Melograno on right hand (mmmm…so good…someone compared it to Emeraude…yes I can see that) and on the left hand Aqua di Colonia G. Ugo Stefani (also…mmm..so good, in a different way..don’t know much about the notes but I a smelling citrus and spices) …I love being able to test out unknown and less talked about fragrances..sometimes the thrill is in wearing scents that are less ubiquitous and the current talk of the fragrant community 🙂

I just found out that the second SM Novella is in fact Fieno which is hay based ….no wonder why I like it! But before I showered I took another sniff of my hand and I swear Melagrano smells like Emeraude…plus, I am a bond girl 🙂 I need to find the link for that comment to make sense….

When I get home tonight I am going to shower and then test out YSL NU…I think this one is d/c as well.
LikeLike
Yowza!!! NU is gorgeous!!!! It’s the EDT which I believe is slightly different from the EDP with the addition of notes of neroli and iris….wonder why they discontinued it?
LikeLike
Isn’t it amazing. Must wear it again soon. There’s a recent re-issue which is still around and it pretty true to the original I think. (That’s what I have.) And the original still pops up semi-regularly on Ebay.
LikeLike
Wow! yeah! I never even knew about it until Tara C sent it to me! It really is amazing 🙂
LikeLike
Nu was one of my favourites back then. I now have a small bottle of it from ebay and a newer one in a different packaging which is meh. Maybe it is okay but I expected it to be similar to the original. It is a completely different scent. Which one do you have?
LikeLike
The original EDT….the one that comes in the blue small circular bottle…not the EDP which came in that metallic hockey puck…I think it might have been brought back with a whole slew of other YSL in 2014 and they are all in the same bottles…that is the newer one you have , I assume?
LikeLike
I only knew the metallic hockey puck bottle back then. I assumed the blue round bottle was kind of a remake and it came out much later. Which is wrong, I know. I don’t know how old mine is because I bought a used bottle on ebay out of curiosity and was very disapointed. It has a barcode on, so it’s probably newer than yours.
Do you know the old EDP version? Could you compare it to the EDT?

Today I brought out one that I haven’t worn in years, Versace Versense. Two quick sprays are enough, I have a sillage cloud accompanying me everywhere.

Somewhere I lost track of all the Versace perfumes that used to pop up (think of all the Bright Crystal flankers and all the names starting with VER…) but I think Versense was the one that stood out. It had a sophisticated feel, at least to me. I should try it out once again.

I can never quite figure out the difference between all of those NR…enough to the point that I lost interest in trying any of them! But I think I did sample the black one.

L’absolu is basically the love child of Narciso (in the opaque white bottle) and NR for Her edp.

Ah! Thank you! I seem to see mention of the “chunky white bottle” on other perfume sites and that one gets a lot of love.

I wore two scents I still haven’t really made friends with: Fancy Nights and Calligraphy Rose. We’re getting closer, though, especially with the Aramis.

Tuesday and Wednesday I wore Grapefruit-Rhubarb from L’ Occitane. It is nice, but no longer a true love. So unless I mange to finish the bottle, this one may end up as a room spray come August.
Finally some clear and sunnny weather, and temperatures on the right side of zero so that we can see the snow melting. No sign of crocus (croci??), but some snowdrops are in bloom at least.

OMG, still having snow around?
I don’t know the L’Occitane scent but I like the idea of using it as a room spray. I usually take them to my car and use them as car scents 😉

No don’t room spray it!!! LOL! That is one of my favorite from L’Occitane and i am fairly certain it has been discontinued. Maybe try it in hot weather?

For work I was in Baccarat Rouge 540, and it was lovely! Ten hours later it was still going strong. Something about it reminds me of Cuir Beluga? Tonight, I’m sampling Hendley Mown and Amora, and I like them both but I need more time to get to know them.

I will be curious to hear what more you have to say about the Hendley’s when you try them again. I ‘ve been on the site and the fragrances sound interesting. There is a vanilla one that caught my eye if I am not mistaken.
