Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 9 – 15 July 2018

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. My SOTD is Le Cri De La Lumiere from Parfum D’Empire. It is indeed a luminous veil of rose and iris with a radiant dose of ambrette. It is glorious and sunny. I love most of PdE’s line, especially Tabac Tabou. I do, however miss the older, plainer, larger, cheaper bottles. I’m not a fan of paying for luxe packaging. I can’t wear packaging and, at my age, no one sees my boudoir.😂 Cheers!

  2. I love Cuir Amethyst, must remember to revisit. Today was Cuir for me too, Cuir Beluga and just now some Trayee on my hair before bed.

  3. Today I wore Ann Gerard Cuir Nacre. I don’t know what’s going on with this one because I can barely smell it. Other people report the sillage is very weak but I imagine it must be an anosmia issue as well, which is a shame because I love a soft suede.
After a while of that I sprayed some Eau des Missions over the top. Yum.

  4. Lashings of SMN Melograno…wore it last night and the middle Marzipan remarked on how good I smelled…there is a high likelihood that she will start using it as well which means the bottle will surely be done before summer’s end.

    • So I also went to Sephora and tested three things…happy to report that while lovely I don’t need them 🙂

      • What did you test, Brigitte?
I have to do so many blond-buys since I’ve been living in the countryside for the last seven years, and I often regret not having the opportunity to try new perfumes before I get a full bottle.

        Like

        • LOL! I figured you meant blind buys! I live in the countryside as well and my “local” sephora is quite a distance away. It is very small and doesn’t have nearly the large amount of offerings that the Sephoras in the city do. I tested the new Nests (Cocoa Woods and Black Tulip) and Eau de Merveilles Bleue. They were all pleasant but not enough to make me want full bottles….which for me is a good thing 🙂

          • I hear you: with a wishlist growing so quickly it’s actually a good thing not to fall for a new perfume. We fo know that it’s only a matter of time.

  5. Woke up too early this morning, so decided to spray some soothing perfume and try to go back to sleep. NV Niral was the easiest sample to find. A pretty, calm perfume which still isn’t on my FB-list of perfumes to buy.I like it, don’t love it: I still haven’t tried Bombay Bling which I sense may fill a gap in my collection, so hope to find “my” NV perfume in the future.

Clouds and summer rain today, more like normal summer than the temperatures we have had lately. Forgot to put on perfume during the day, but will spray on some Acqua di Parma Gelsomino Nobile edp in the early evening, my experience is that this one really blooms in summer. I need a change from the many citrus scents I usually wear.

    • Hey Ingeborg,
Clouds and summer rain can be very refreshing after a heat storm. I don’t know the Gelsomino Nobile, what’s it like?
Don’t you just LOVE finding a fragrance that you don’t feel the need to buy a bottle of? That seriously makes me happy.

      • Gelsomino Nobile is not very i challenging. Ther’s some citrus and then jasmine, but creamy rather than very indolic i think you might say. The brand usually has polished perfumes, doesn’t it?

Well, good not to fall for everything, but it so happens I’m waiting for a partial bell jar of tubéreuse criminelle, to arrive in August. Hopefully thinking of it will keep me away from too much tax free shopping later this month.

  6. Right now I smell of several different Fragonard scents, having happened upon a shop – had to go in and sniff and try a few things. The winner of the skin trials is fleur d’oranger Intense – it’s not complicated but it has some staying power considering it’s quite hot here and the Metro was very crowded and sweaty.

  7. NR Santal Musc for a very busy Monday. We’ve had actual summer weather here for the past month or so with temps in high 20s and low 30s, almost unheard of in recent years. It was overcast this morning so I thought I’d get away with the sandalwood as I was going to be working in the bowels of the building where sunlight cannot reach.

  8. Wearing Terracotta Le Parfum this Monday morning. Inspired by Brigitte’s current loyalty to Melograno, I plan to wear Terracotta daily for a while. Hope to enjoy a good portion of this bottle over the summer.

Terracotta was new when I first fell down the perfume rabbit hole, was it in 2014? I remember reading the reviews on perfume blogs, the rush of excitement. Bought a sample from STC and fell in love. By then all of the bottles were gone and I had to wait to find one. Terracotta was first announced as a limited edition, but it seems like it has been available every summer so far, so I’m safe for now.

    • Yay!!! please report back on your feeling about Terracotta as the days pass. I find that when I wear a perfume for an extended amount of time I see so many different facets of it….and I love that 🙂

  9. Been going through a weird phase of craving iris scents, and pale sorts of skin scents. So, last night was a break from that and I drenched myself in Bkack Perfecto.

Today, I plan on ELdO’s Putain and later on Bianchi’s Angel’s Dust.

      • Yes it does feel that Terracotta could become a summer staple. It has been so many years since I wore the same fragrance with a daily loyalty, it’s time to give it a try.

I’m hoping I will enjoy Terracotta for many days to come without getting distracted by something else. It’s a perfect summer scent. And I find that adding something citrus-y over Terracotta’s dry down is very nice too. The gentle vanilla and musk are revived in a lovely way.

        • Yeah, good idea adding citrus over the dry down. I bet it works swimmingly Tiffanie.
I have tried to do a week with one frag a couple of times since starting the blog but it currently feels impossible. I hope you have a less frenetic need for change and can enjoy Terracotta for a while.

Melograno…..the middle marzipan has taken a liking to it as well so it looks like we are sharing it for the summer…this happens quite often…I will wear something for a while and one of the marzipans will like it so much they start to wear it as well …this is how I “lost’ my bottles of CSP Aloha Tiara and Vanille Abricot…..I am not complaining, though, because the whole house smells divine whenever the middle one wears either…plus, our fragrances are getting worn and loved rather than languishing in the basement….

and tiffanie, we are most definitely not a 2 spritz family-LOL! I have gone as far as 20-30 including skin and spray and walk through the air….so yes, we reek chez Marzipan!

Last night I craved something different but wanted to stay in soft floral territory. I settled on Infusion d’iris EdT plus a spritz of the Amande flanker. They smell like perfume-siblings, each with the same great bone structure, still beautiful in their own way.

Does anyone have suggestions for good , calming scents to wear to bed in the heat? I usually cannot tolerate lavender in perfume, nor am I a lover of rose perfumes in general.

    Like

    • I was going to suggest lavender but since that isn’t an option maybe a soft musk? Kumba Made has some nice musk oils or Dame Perfumery Musk for Man (it’s completely unisex). Also, maybe something with heliotrope? LT Piven’s Heliotrope Blanc? Or something with almonds? Berdoues Tonka & Almond?

      Like

      • That would be LT Piver…also thought of perhaps something that smells like expensive soap or clean sheets such as Jo Malone French Lime Blossom or something from the Philosophy line (Amazing Grace, Pure Grace, Baby Grace or Inner Grace) or the Clean line (some of their earlier releases).

Not sure how you feel about citrus but I really like Berdoues Assam of India in the summer with notes of lemon, tea and mysore sandalwood….I wore it for seven weeks straight in the summer of 2016, morning, day and night.

      • Insence is not a favorite note at all, it feels often foreign (and not in a good way).

Salty I have just tried an Italian niche perfume, something with breeze in the name and then Wood Sage and Sea Salt which I seem to remember didn’t last long. I forgot which house has a perfume inspired by the coast of Brittany.

        • Was it the Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel? That’s a big favourite in the crikey household. I’ve never found a Jo Malone that works for me–they all vanish in a pale wisp. The Heeley Sel Marin is another I hanker after, but is probably too close to the FdS to justify.

          • The oneI tried was Brezza di Mare frim Profumi di Firenze. Nice salty note in it, but not seaside the way it smells along the Atlantic coast. I think it was the L’ Srtidsn one I ess thinking would be nice to try. IT Lions like one of the perfumes NOT avsilable here.
