Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 16.7 – 22.7.2018
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

Yesterday I grabbed a bottle from the back of the shelf, one that has been sorely neglected in my headlong rush to try the bounty that is on offer.
Farmacia S.S. Annunzita’s Sweet Musk turned out to be just what was called for on a hot summer’s day. Jasmine, Rose, and Musk, over a base of Amber, Patchouli, and Vanilla. It was soft and lovely, with a gentle persistence that lasted through an entire work day. I received many compliments from my usually mum coworkers.
Sweet Musk has now been advanced to the front of the shelf, with apologies for the neglect to which it had been subjected. To further make amends, I shall rock it again today. Cheers.

Voyage d’Hermes edp again. Seriously, this does seem more masculine than the edt. But at times it is just right. I find the bottle has a good, modern design and the purchase was partly motivated by the bottle, which does not happen very often.

I would be very interested to hear your comments if you make a side by side comparison! The edp has something some people describe as juniper. I don’t think it is juniper really, but the edt does not have it at least.

I found the edt livelier. The edp sat more heavier on my skin. This may explain why.

I have a mini bottle of Voyage but now I’m curious to check the concentration. For a long time my vSO and I used that perfume as a shared one on our plane trips, and it smelled unisex enough for both of us to wear comfortably though I always thought it was leaning masculine a little. Then I got tired of it and switched to another perfume for trips. I should probably revisit my old favorite.

It’s actually an interesting story how these samples fell into my lap: I’ve listed a few perfumes for sale on the Internet, and a couple weeks ago a woman called me to say that someone had stolen my pictures for his ad. We talked about perfumes for two hours, and I promised to make decants of some of my perfumes for her (Shalimar,Mitsouko, Tabu, a few classic legends including some chypres), and so I did and sent them to her. Today I got a package from her with lovely gifts which are awesome (and made my wishlist at least three items longer, lol!).

My SOTD was Irresistible For Men (the green one), one that almost got away: eleven years ago, before I could even entertain the idea of ever becoming a full-blown perfumista, I fell in love with this Givenchy but I didn’t buy it ’cause I was on a strict budget and a bit intimidated by the fact that this Irresistible was aimed at men. Yesterday was L’Artisian Al Oudh. Today Tokyo Milk Dark – Bulletproof. Haven’t worn this’ in ages. Was looking for my Bottega Veneta and found this instead. Its a bit sweeter than i remember. Description on bottle says Smoked tea, Coconut Milk, Crushed Cedar and Ebony Woods.

Ah Melanie….That Bulletproof scent read nicely….until the mention of coconut milk. My nose really doesn’t like coconut in scents. Is it prominent in Bulletproof?
LikeLike
Well, I dont’ detect coconut at all. This might be the reason for the sweetness to it but i wouldn’t have picked coconut if i didn’t know the description. I think the cedar and tea are the strongest notes. And as it warms up it gets a bit toffee, caramel – not a sharp scent, but soft and round. Well on me anyway! Tokyo Milk Dark scents are rather interesting – their blends quite often have one element that is a little left field.

I am old school I guess. In the beginning of my perfume jouney I always had a small wardrobe of 5-7 full bottles and it wasn’t unusual for me to wear the same scent for days on end. Then you start reading perfume blogs and you want to try everything under the sun….as you said, an “all you can spritz buffet”…..I think I am back to wanting to minimalize to make things easier and just do a “wash, rinse, repeat”….especially if I really like how something smells.

I hear you, perfume blogs make you desire too many scents. I used to be more loyal to my few bottles in the beginning but now even getting a sniff of a different perfume off of my wrist or from a vial is like changing a tune.
