Hey there all you APJ friends,  welcome back to the pleasure dome.

Did you miss us?  I am sure I did a lot of things whilst we were gone, including enjoying not having a deadline to nearly miss every two weeks, but cannot remember what now.   All good things come to an end and I’m back at it, albeit with my very own deadline now.  Portia is running things a little differently,  and it involves me having to be computer literate and learning how to insert pictures into the post all by myself.  I took it for granted that Portia did everything for me, but that vacation is over.  If you find yourself not reading this until Christmas you’ll know I am having issues.  (By the way, http://www.australianperfumejunkiescom is the slightly altered address now, in case you have problems Googling us.)

The Girl with the Armadillo Tattoo

I got my first tattoo to fill in the “no APJ” boredom.  Have wanted one for ages and I finally got around to it.  No surprise for those who know me, that it is an armadillo.  It is the name and the logo of our bike and cookie business.  I chose to have it on my ankle as the middle of my forehead would have been a bit too in your face, no pun intended.  I would have liked it on my arm,  but thought that might be a little too mid-life crisis.  And I love the way it peaks out of my shoe.  I cannot wait to have another one, which I have planned for the end of the summer.  A crown.  I am the Cookie Queen.

Vero Profumo Rubj EdP

I wore Vero Perfumo’s über-erotic Ruby EdP to the tattoo studio.

Fragrantica lists the notes as:
Top:  Neroli, passionfruit, mandarin, bergamot
Heart:  Cumin, Basil, African orange flower, tuberose
Base:  Virginia cedar, oak moss, musk

I have been wearing Rubj EdP for more than six years now, and am on my second bottle. As most of you know, I do have the complete Vero Profumo collection, and it is the  Rubj EdP  that makes me feel most sensual.  It felt like the right choice for my tattoo, because if I was gonna pass out or have a meltdown I was damn well gonna do it smelling sexy.  As it happened I enjoyed every second of the needle and if I was younger I would have a sleeve.   Rubj is exquisitely carnal, elegantly unchaste, and definitely not timid.   This is a perfume to wear when you have to wear conservative clothing, because it screams who you really are.  Vero Kern is the Warhol of the perfume world.

    I might have considered inking if I could find a non wrinkly bit of skin. Nup.

  2. Congratulations, Val, on getting the tattoo you have wanted for so long.
    I’m somewhat conflicted about tattoos. I admire those that demonstrate great skill – I saw some truly amazing 3D designs on Facebook recently – and I respect that people are entitled to do whatever they choose with their own bodies. But I feel that they are becoming so common, they are not as interesting or as individual anymore – at least in terms of the proliferation of really large designs, and sleeves.
    For myself, if I ever get one, I think it will be, like yours, very personal and somewhat unobtrusive. I like the idea of having a tattoo that is just for me … others will only know about it if I choose to show them.
    However, my ten-year-old daughter is set against the idea; she doesn’t want me to mark my skin, and I think she is afraid of me embarrassing her as it’s entirely possible I would get a blue snowflake with ‘Let it Go’ written under it to reflect not only a mindset that I strive for, but a Disney movie that I simply love. I never had my ‘own’ Disney princess when I was growing up, but adore Queen Elsa and the whole Frozen movie – and I am 50 next week!

    • Sue! You go girl. Do it. 50 is the absolute perfect excuse to do something radical. You are right. They are way to common and the majority of the tattoos done are horrible. I see so many on people at the pool. Clearly done down half of their leg or something when they were younger and didn’t bother to think about what it might look like later! My son has a fantastic full sleeve. By the time he is old enough to maybe wonder why he did it, I will be pushing up daisies, so really don’t care. 🙂 Plenty of hidden places you could have it.         You have also confirmed something that I have wondered about for some time – that, for some people, the needles are part of the appeal, and could be why some people keep going back for more. Perhaps the ink is a representation of the ability to be resilient, to endure … I can’t quite find the words, but I know what I mean.
        Does this make sense to you, Val, or to anyone else out there with tattoos?

        • Uhm – I dunno. I don´t count myself as part of the tattooed scene, per se, but yeah – for sure could totally see the needles as being part of the appeal. That is one of the reasons I wanna get another one. Take the time to enjoy the actual making of it. Was a great feeling. But I did not have to endure anything really. It was fast and simple. The guy I went with had one on the back of his neck, and that took more than an hour, and he definitely suffered! Tattoos could easily fall into the “addiction” category. I juts looooooove. mine and have not regretted it for even a nanosecond. I will be waiting to hear!! xxx

        • It was a very big part of why I got a tattoo, Sue. I have a lot of scars from surgery, things I had complicated feelings about for years… I got a tattoo as part of a way to claim them back, to have a chosen mark/scar. Twenty years later, I still really like it. (I had also planned to get a really extensive one, all the way up my leg, working with my lattice work of scars from many hip surgeries.. then realised I couldn’t because I would have to have more surgery in the same places. And the idea of creating that, and then destroying and warping it just felt wrong. I will have another one day, though.)

  3. That armadillo is very nicely drawn – did you ask some artist to design it for you or is it something you found on the internet or in tattooist catalogue? Anyway great tattoo

    • Hi Lucasai! I found it a couple of years ago online as I was searching through different armadillo stuff. I like it because it is simple. I didn’t want any colours or intricate designs. I am REALLY glad you like it. 🙂

  5. My lord you are a brave woman!!! Were it not for the permanency and the pain I might have gotten one myself years ago but since I flit all over the place what I would like today would change tomorrow….so no tattoos for me.

    I don’t think I’ll ever get a tattoo since I couldn’t choose an image or a phrase that I would want to have on me for the rest of my life. Plus, I’m really paranoid about hepatitis: not sure if all tattoo artists properly clean and sterilize their instruments.

    Rubj sounds absolutely fab! I love your definition of Vero Kern as the Warhol of the perfume world, that’s a title one can only hope to get 🙂

    • Whaaaaaat? Diana – have you not tried Rubj? Ahhhhh. Gotta fix that. I have been stuck with an armadillo in my life for the last twenty years, so I am pretty sure it was a good choice. Og course picking your tattoo place is really important, trust me, I did that. It is cute isn’t it? And easy enough to hide. MY inlays have not noticed it yer, and I spend a lot of time barefoot in their garden in the summer. 🙂 Big love, Val xxxxxx

        If I ever decide to get some ink, I’d probably choose the same spot: not for anyone’s eyes but you can look at it whenever you want.
        I just thought of the craziest thing: will it be the armadillo that gets the crown tattooed above its head??! That’d be awesome 🙂

        • Diana I thought about having a crown on his head, but too big would look awkward, and everyone tells me that having a really small tattoo is not so good as it could, with time kind of blob together. I am tending towards the top of my right foot, right hand side. I will definitely update everyone. :). Nevertheless, I will talk to the guy about giving it a crown ……. hmmmmmm …..

  7. Welcome back Apj and Val at Apj. My deep, ravishing love for Rubj is unrelenting after so many years and I got my very own first tattoo a few weeks ago: a small crescent moon on outer side of my right wrist and I’m planning more tattoos. Love them needless 🙂

    • Ana Maria! My love is also unrelenting for Rubj. It remains a constant. Yaaaaaaas! Am planning where to put my crown. I would like it on my wrist, but not sure if I am really bit too old for that. I may well have it the same foot as the armadillo, that is where I am leaning at the moment. I am already having a breakdown deciding what kind of crown. I have several in mind, all simple ones. Not like the Crown Jewels. But maybe I should have a. bigger crown on the inside of my wrist.   8. I am the most anti-tattoo person you know, yet even I have a soft spot for this little guy. I agree that if he is peeking anywhere, it is into your shoe – or sock, if you have one. 😉

    And I must give Rubj another whirl. It is very heady, but I am ‘heading’ more that way in my taste these days.

  9. I adore Vero Kern perfumes, Rozy is my favorite in all forms. Tattoos are not for me; however, I understand people tattooing meaningful images. If I had to have a tattoo, it would be the paw prints of my former dogs, directly over my heart to commemorate where they live eternally. I love your armadillo.

    • Hello Kathleen, I just love the vision of your dogs’ footprints over your heart. Dogs do that. More so than cats, and I am a cat person. I grew up with dogs and you just don’t forget what true friends they are. Yeah, Rozy is divine. I didn’t wear it because I thought it might be too much a confined space and wanted my tattoo artist to remain stable. Hahahahahaha. Although I wonder if Rubj was any better? Hugs. xxxxxxxxx

  11. I have wanted one well placed and chosen tattoo for a long while, but my person is dead set against and so I haven’t done it. I am blind in one of the and want a Horus eye on my forearm. Oh well.

    As for Vero Kern, when you say whole aresenal is that all the concentrations too? So fabulous. I have Mito, Onda, and Naja EDPs and will eventually add Rubj!

  12. Your armadillo is adorable and in the perfect position on your ankle. Tattoos have their place in human experience. I have none of my own. The idea is appealing, but my inner cry-baby cringes at the thought of the needle. Perhaps a small one someday. A music note, a star, or a thin ribbon tied in a tiny bow.

    I admire your Vero collection. I’ve tried Onda edp from a sample. It is beautiful.

    • Hi Tiffanie 🙂 You know – it doesn’t really hurt. It is not a pain like anything else, and the whole process is so interesting, and kind of daring.   13. I am on my third bottle of Rubj Voile d’Extrait. I guess I need to try the EDP. I have no tattoo but the one I have considered getting would be the word Courage tattooed on the inside of my wrist.

  15. Val, that tattoo is AWESOME! I so can’t wait to see you in real life and bear hug you. I am now dying to try the Vero collection. Been on my radar for ages, but you know…tyranny of postal distance and all.

    Yup. Got 2 tattoos of my own. My shoulder one is 26 yrs old and needs upgrading. Tempted to get more, but haven’t found anything I like.

    But you already know the passionfruity EDPs aren’t my love–I did try. But the voiles? Those make my socks roll up and down with delight. And the extraits. Rozy, Mito, Naja, Onda. They amaze me on so many levels. All the gorgeousness, and the *brain* to go with the beauty.

  18. I have several close friends with multiple tattoos but I never volunteer my opinion since they don’t ask. You asked, right? 😉

    In general, I’m anti- everything: tattoos, piercings and any other permanent things people do to their bodies. I just can’t believe that some day down the road people wouldn’t regret that decision, so I don’t understand adding that potentially regrettable decision to dozens of others we unavoidably will make.
    Having said that, I think that our age is the most appropriate for going through with that: we do know ourselves good enough to predict if we’d be fine with that cute butterfly flapping its wings on our sagging breast or wrinkled neck 10-15 years from now.
    As far as tattoos go, yours looks cute.

  19. Hahahahaha Undina! I most definitely will not let anyone with a needle anywhere near my breasts, nor my neck. The very thought …. Yep I did ask. We have been inundated over the last years and I think everyone has an opinion. As I mentioned I loved having it done so much, it is good that I am not younger. If I could just have the experience without the tattoo at the end of it. 🙂 An yes, I have had acupuncture and no it is not the same, in case someone asks.     • Penn Jillette (of the magic act Penn and Teller) wanted the experience of a tattoo without the permanence, so he had a tattoo without ink. Lasted for a few weeks and then healed. He wrote about it in the New York Times a while ago.
